FTF back up for Z1 - Xperia Z1 General

Here is my guide for FTF back up using Flashtool version 0.9.13.0 for new guys.
This could be used with all Xperia phones running android.
I have used this method starting with Xperia X10a, Xperia S and now Xperia Z1.
1) You have to use Sony Update Service or PC Companion to repair/reinstall your software. You will loose all your data!!! So make a back up of your content.
2) After that done go to C:\Program Files\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs
and you will see 4 files with name starting FILE_###########, where # - is number that can be anything.
Make sure that they have similar date and time creation. If you had used SUS before,just delete folder db to make sure there no other files from previous updates, because it will screw your phone up.
3) Copy those 4 files to a folder you name anything you like somewhere on desktop for easy locating it later on.
4) Then go on and install latest Flashtool.
5) Once it is intalled, just open Flashtool, navigate to Tools tab, select SEUS decrypt. Now for source folder navigate to those 4 files you have previously copied. Four files should appear on left side, highlight them and press "->" , Now those 4 files should move to right side. To complete this step press Convert.
6) In status window you can see what is happening. It can take some time depending on your PC.
7) New window will pop up once decrypting is done.
8) This step will create FTF bundle. Fill up information on Device, Branding, and Version.
9) Move all files from left box to the right (highlight and press ->) and then press Create.You can take a 5 min break.
10) After Flashtool finished bundle creation go to C:\Flashtool\firmwares to locate FTF back up you have made.
Hope that helps!
If you have any further questions just ask, I will do my best to answer it.

This is good, so in this way I will be able to extract from my phone the entire system? A backup of my Z1?

It doesn't extract system files from phone.
It uses official Sony update service files that would be legit to customization that you have on your phone; so that if anything happens you can revert to it.
If you use this method your phone will be wiped clean.
I posted this instruction because I seen few members asking for instruction on forum.
Just sharing....

I think you can use PC Companion instead of SUS.
I can't check now, but when I created ftf myself all needed files were in
C:\ProgramData\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\db\(numbers)\blob_fs
after PC Companion says reboot your phone.
After coping files to other folder, you can close PC Companion
My data wasn't deleted since I didn't need to reinstall software.

There's more files than 4.... And file name start from ICON_##########. Couldn't find FILE_########
please help me on this.

Arrange files by size FILE_############## should come up first, since its size larger then any of ICON_##############.
Before you perform update make sure you delete contents of db folder.
This will eliminate possibility to pick wrong ones.

Have you reinstalled software on your phone using SUS or PC companion?
FILE_########### would not be there until it is downloaded to your computer and your phone updates/reinstalls software.
If you disconnect phone before it starts updating, there a chance that those FILE_########## would get corrupted or not completely downloaded. If you try to use corrupted FILE_########## then you will screw up your phone (soft brick) when trying to use it as back up.
Keep in mind that repair/reinstalling software will factory reset your phone and you will lose everything stored on internal memory (SD card will be as it was).

It should be in there. Either it has got/been deleted or the updates have not been downloaded at all.

The encrypted files will not be deleted till they are downloaded completely provided you have not closed the PC Companion software. If you close that software then the update starts getting downloaded from the begening. Also, PC companion saves the data in the blob_fs folder on a continous basis.

The comprehensive guide to put a custom ROM on your X8 for NOOBS! (2.3)

Hello,
I decided to write this because I had a hell of a time finding out how to do this - all the information is here on the forums but not all in one place so you can just read and install the custom ROM.
The ROM that is available that I have successfully tested is CM7_RC1_X8_004
You will need the following programs:
SuperOneClick - to root your phone
Busybox - from the android Market
Xrecovery
Super Manager - from the Market
X10 Flashtool
and your ROM
Rooting
~~~~~
So First we want to root the phone, we will need to set the USB debugging mode to on. Go into settings - applications - Development and click on the tick next to USB debugging to turn it on. Plug the Phone into the PC via the USB Cable.
At the end of this post are files download SuperOneclick and extract it into a folder on your desktop then run the exe file called SuperOneClick.exe and click on root, it will scroll through a load of things then come up with a message that says "Root files have been installed would you like to run a test?" To which I always say Yes then it says "A su command will now be sent to your phone please hit allow in superuser" (there were no messages on my phone so I just hit OK on that message) Then a message comes up asking you to donate, so if that utility is handy for you feel free to donate to the makers of SuperOneclick!
You can now turn off USB debugging.
Installing BusyBox
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go to settings - sound and display and set the screen timeout to 30 mins I have found it to keep locking while installing Busybox as it takes a while to do.
Go to the market and search for Busybox and install and accept permissions on it. once this part of the application has installed you need to run it as it has only been copied to the phone - now you have to actually install it.
So run the busybox app and say OK to the message from the developer (reading it first of course) then it will ask you for permission which you say yes.
Next we see a screen saying Status: Working, Your phone is Rooted, amount of free space in system is 10128kb, Busybox not found. (we haven't installed it yet.)
The first time I did this it took ages to get anywhere and ages to install so just be patient and wait for it. Choose Busybox 1.17.1 but change the location of the install to system/xbin (the drop down box at the bottom of the page.) Then Click Install. For me this time it failed so lets try v 1.18 and the default location. back up and then relaunch busybox installer.
I found I had to change the settings a couple times when I installed before to get it to install, you might not find that. Sure enough this time it installed fine using v1.18 and the default save location.
installing Super Manager and Xrecovery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First you need to download the new ROM files from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973753
Go to the third post and download the rom: (currently
http://hotfile.com/dl/109568508/3381b40/CM7_RC1_X8_004.rar.html)
Once it's down extract the files to another folder in your desktop and you should have the files LiveWallpapers.zip, Update.zip, changelog.txt and a BASEBAND folder.
Then connect your phone and copy the three files and the folder to a new directory on your SDcard. (I called mine ROM) Now remove the cable from the PC not forgetting to unmount it first.
Then you need to download Super Manager from the market and install it then run it - choose File explorer - click on the favourite icon at the bottom(the picture of a folder and a heart) and choose SD card, navigate to your folder where you stored the files and click on all the ticks next to the files and folder and then when they are all selected click on any file and hold it till a menu appears and choose copy (This is to copy the files)
Then Click on the favourites one again and choose root path. Then go to System and then Bin and then click on one file and hold the button till the menu appears and scroll to the bottom where you see paste and click on it and this will paste the files into this folder.
X10 Flash tool
~~~~~~~~~~
Next we need to use the X10 Flastool so download it from
http://www.multiupload.com/GYL7A7XQBT
(The thread I got this from is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746).
Once downloaded you need to extract the files and run X10FlashTool.exe.
Then before you plug the phone back in you need to put it into USB debugging mode again. Go into settings - applications - Development and click on the tick next to USB debugging to turn it on. Plug the phone back into the PC.
In the X10Flashtool click on the button that says ask root perms and press allow on the phone when it comes up and in the FlashTool it will say "INFO - Root Access Allowed."
Then Click Optimize and it will then reboot your phone, let the phone come back up and then in x10 Flasher click ask root perms and it should say Allowed again after a short time.
Then click on xRecovery. Power the phone off and wait for 20 seconds and then power it back on. As soon as you see the words "Sony Ericsson" appear on the screen start hammering the back button. Then the phone will boot into xRecovery.
Backup your phone
Use the sound volume up and down buttons to move up and down the menus and the home button to select the option (I think the back button is back as well). Choose the backup/restore option, then backup to backup your phone to the SD card (First the system and then the data)
Then when it's finished it will say complete and you can go ahead and put the new rom on the phone. Choose install Custom Zip, then choose custom zip from SDcard. Navigate to the directory you put your ROM in and choose update.zip it will ask you if you are sure so choose yes and it will update your phone.
Once it says Install from SDcard complete hit backup then choose the top option reboot phone.
Your Phone will then reboot into Android 2.3
Good job on this
Restoring your Phone to It's previous working state
To restore you phone back to how it was before you started all this all you need to do is Boot xRecovery by hammering the back button once you see the very first Sony Ericsson which takes you into xRecovery.
Then use the volume up and down on the side of the phone and choose backup and restore and you can choose advanced restore to restore a different component or just do a restore to do the whole phone back as it was.
I have just restored back successfully!
is there a big risk that i will damage my phone in case i will do everything in #1post step by step with instruction?
I don't really think so, but there is always the possibility when flashing your phone that you might Brick it.
I didn't break mine and I will do this to test every new firmware that comes out and because I've done it once most of the hard work is done which was installing xRecovery.
In short I offer you no guarantee this won't brick your phone what you do is at your own risk, but I had no trouble.
Yeah i know this that im doing it on my own risk, im only asking of probability of breaking phone cus i want root and install custom rom but i have a little bad luck
OK,
I don't know about failures - I haven't seen anyone complaining about destroying their phone and it didn't happen to me, that's all I know sorry.
super manager isn't copying and pasting files. i follow the guide and when i click paste, nothing happens.
edit: it just says "prepare to copy" when i try to copy the files, then nothing when i paste

In supermanager open the folder system and then select the folder Bin, you have to change the folder from read to read and write first before u can copy anything.
thanks, realized i hadn't given super manager super user permission. what do i do differently when installing Rachts Roms because they don't come with an update.zip?

When u have Xrecovery and make an backup it will create a folder in SD card "backup" after u download the Rom from racth u put the folder on the backup folder, then in XRecovery u go to backup then restore, u will see the rom there, just press ok and it will do the rest like the zip file.
to the OP thanks a Lot i appreciate this Guide!
and on the same vein as the others i am having some problems pasting the contents of the ROM. i have given Super manager root prves. but it says not enough free desc space which seems right to me cus there is only 128Mb storage on the phone.
i feel like i am missing sumthing basic please assist me, Thanks!

Just need to be well prepared!!!!
Based on my experience.. I didn't really know what I've done that make my phone cannot boot... it's all because not really prepared... Need to do some research and reading 1st..
Luckily, when done some reading, I manage to boot the phone after flashing with SEUS..
And after that... I prepare to do checklist... Now.. Everything seems OK...

With your phone did you get a 2GB SD card? I did with mine and that's where you need to copy the ROM files to(you need to copy the files in windows to the SD card). The only thing I was copying with super manager was the xRecovery files. (and I'm not sure I needed to do that since you kinda install xrecovery on the flash tool, I just posted exactly what I did)
mss_2212, yeah using the SE repair might get you out of a few scrapes, it's good that they offer such a utility to completely flash your phone back to the latest SE update!
Well, V6.0a is now out I am downloading that as we speak.
^^ how is it running? i see BlueTooth not working.
i realize my error you were talking about copying the files for Xrecovery i thought you were referring to the ROM files.
Thanks for the help! I hope I success for the install of the last custom rom from CM 2.3! If it's good, it will be translate for the french forums! ;-)
I'm still setting it up to how I like it but so far so good - it's nie and stable for me and WI-FI works which is a dream.
Don't forget to make a backup first of your old ROM though!
Thanks
Hi!
I tried to install the last 2.3.3 CM7 with this guide, but I get a problem with the X10 flashtool... In fact, I don't understand if I have to lauch the .exe in my phone, or in the PC. Because with the phone I can "ask root perms" but I get an error (it says me to use usb debug the phone and install...) but I think that I've followed the guide And since the PC, there is no file in the "firmware" fold...
So I install the custom ROM, without that step, and it success, even if I get another problem, but I think, because of the instability of the rom (no market, and no possibility to dl by internet)
Thanks for the help!
Hello,
Not quite sure what you're getting at, I will try to help if I can (I'm still a bit of a noob really myself)
You need to run the x10 flash tool on the PC with your phone connected in usb debugging mode before it will work.
"Then before you plug the phone back in you need to put it into USB debugging mode again. Go into settings - applications - Development and click on the tick next to USB debugging to turn it on. Plug the phone back into the PC."
The Market and other applications are included in the latest version(.6a as of this writing) in a zip file called gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip to install them you need to boot into xRecovery and choose install custom zip and then point it to that file which is next to the install.zip. Then the market will work.
v.6a is really nice but ultimately I had to revert because I needed to take some pics but a lot of stuff is working well!

In that folder, take the two biggest files (150MB and 16MB estimated) and copy them inside a folder like on your desktop
Download Bin4ry FlashTool and then go to the second tab in the program and select decrypt and then select the folder you have placed those two files and then after decrypting it will start the bundle which needs some information you put in then OK and you .ftf file will be ready.
quick and dirty explanation.hope it helps
EDIT1: make sure in FlashTool folder under loaders(folder) you have the lt15.sin. If you don't have it I have uploaded it somewhere here if you couldn't find it let me know. This is needed to make the ftf for ARC.

Problem with choosing the device
Hey! At first want to thank you for your Help
I'm just tryin to create a Stock-Rom and when I come to the point of choosing the Device there actualy is the Arc but the field seems to be an "Or" field and not "Xor"
One of the fields "X10 / X10 Mini / X10 Mini pro / X8" always is chosen. The Arc can't be chosen exclusively.
What to do now?
And two other questions...
1st: The file I'm creating maybe of higher importance for a lot of people in the german Arc community, so I want to be sure that none of my personal data is in the ROM included I am creating... can I ?
2nd: Is it generally necessary or recommended to unlock the bootloader and to Root my new Phone when I am only interested in a clean unbranded OS ? I just want to delete the rubbish my provider treats me to have!

If there is program issue, you better off contact Androxyde to solve issues with the software.
In order to get the files from blob_fs folder it means that you have already downloaded the files from SE Server and that means there is no user information associated with the file.
If you want to clean junk apps from the ROM pre-installed you have to get root permission to uninstall them and I think @ this moment only way to root is to have unlocked bootloader.

Getting ROM from Kies Download

I'm not too sure how many people know this, but when Kies is downloading your new ROM, you can copy it and put it somewhere on your hard drive for use later on (if necessary).
On my computer (Windows XP) Kies puts the ROM in the temp folder, on my computer, here...
C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\Local Settings\Temp, where Ian is my name on my computer, you go to where all your files are located.
While downloading the new ROM it'sin a temp file called tmp1B2.tmp.
Once it's done, it puts the file in a folder called tmp1B2.tmp.zipfolder
Just copy the file from this folder and paste it anywhere you want.
The file will disappear after your phone is finished upgrading, so make sure you don't wait too long.
Ian
Thanks! Though I don't suppose there is a method of actually getting the firmware WITHOUT actually going through the process of upgrading?
You can also download the firmware straight from Samsung using check fus downloader without even having to run kies.

Download the Flash tool for Xperia devices.
Unzip the file you downloaded and place it somewhere on your computer.
In the unzipped folder, run Emma.exe. During the installation, make sure you remember the installation path:
Default path in Windows 64 bit is: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Emma\”
Default path in Windows 32 bit is: “C:\Program Files\Sony Mobile\Emma\”
Copy the Customization.ini file. You find it in the <Emma zip filename>.
Paste the Customization.ini file into the installation folder. The installation
folder is the folder named Emma in the installation path examples on point 3.1 and 3.2 above.
Click Start > All programs > Sony Mobile > Emma (if you used the default installation path from step 3 above) to start the flash tool

(6/12/15)Again Interop/cap Unlock in lumia and temporary solution for WPINTERNALS.

Edited - Added A new procedure and no more reset anymore.
:good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
people who have audio problem after "root unlock" can use this trick temporary.in this trick there is no issue in audio..and i think the audio fix option will come soon.
ok here is The latest trick for interop unloking listed lumia devices.i will write the post shortly.the 60% work will do the wpinternal app.so u have to read the post.
Device supported:
Lumia 520,521,525,620,625,810,820,822,920,925,1020,720 (Other devices is not suported in WPINternals that's why those devices owner have to wait).
**1st a big thanks to "Heathcliff74" for his awesome tool.and 2nd Big thanks to "AndroidXsK" for the SBL3 partitions.
ok here is the procedure.
1st follow this link to unlock ur bootloader.The wpinternals app has all Answers of ur questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/development/windows-phone-internals-unlock-t3257483
1st download the tool and read the getting started section carefully. (don't do anything just read).
2nd download the SBL3 Partion files from this link. --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64100811&postcount=267
now with the Wpinternals app unlock ur bootloader with the supported SBL3 partitions.
here u have to choose exact partition which match with ur phone..
well if u have a same cpu which matches with sbl3 partion supported phone u can use that for ur phone also..suppose u r using lumia 521/525 but there is no sbl3 partition for those phone then u can use 520 sbl3 partition .bcz 520 has the same processor.i think u understood.
after unlocking bootloader ur phone will reboot to normal mode..keep connected ur phone with pc by USB ..now from the wpinternal app go to manual mode and select "mass storage mode" in the app.the phone will boot again and will go black(unresponsive) ..don't worry.then u will find a new mounted drive partition in ur pc.it's ur phone mainos partition.
go to that drive and u will se some folders .if u don't know pls don't play with those folders.just go to (windows>packages>registry files) folders..u will find many reg files just copy the "Software.reg" file in ur desktop.we will work with that file.
now open 7zip file manager (don't have just download or install)
select the software reg file from desktop.
after clciking on software reg u will see a file named software without any extension.
right click on the file and click "edit".
now a notepad tab will open with many lines..
now add these quoted(add without quotes) lines from the attachment at the end of the software file lines.
View attachment 3566593
now save the file by pressing "Ctrl+S"
now a msg box will appear on 7z file manager just click yes...
after that put/replace the modified software.reg files in the (new mounted drive>windows>packages>registry files) folder.
now soft reset ur phone by clicking "volume down+power button" for 10 second.
then the phone will boot up normally..now u have to must give a hard reset ur phone to get the new capabilities unlocked...
2nd Procedure(No reset anymore) :
Thanks to @_wook_
There's easier way, no need fot 7zip at all
Just switch device to the mass storage mode, go to [MainOS mount point]:\windows\system32\config\ and copy SOFTWARE to some location on PC, then make duplicate just in case you mess up with some registry entry.
Open RegEdit.exe and click on HKLM > File> Load Hive and select file you copied from your MainOS partition drive, then type in the name - anything like lumiaSofware...
Edit what you want (probably capabilities... or something) and unload hive by selecting the lumiaSoftware > File > Unload Hive.
Close RegEdit (no need for it anymore); copy your SOFTWARE file to the place where you got it from (There will be more files, with LOG or similar extension, disregard them). Eject device and hold down power button for 10 seconds (or at least until it vibrates) and voila, you edited your registry with success.
Important notes:
You can mess up your System, but probably you will be able to repair it by re-flashing ffu again - not tested.
Maybe I skipped some step in tutorial and you will be confused what to do next, so, just in case you don't have clue what I am talking about, then this is no good tutorial for you, no good at all!
In case Explorer.exe tells you that you don't have permission to access to [MainOS MP]:\windows\system32\config just press enter (it will be ok I think). Maybe this will cause an issue for some path, or for some devices, not causing any issue to me.
I have crazy phone and a lot of things works on it...
I am using Win10 and Win 10 Mobile.
In case you don't know who is the guy named Explorer.exe forget everything you read in this post and go to some place else.
Best regards and be safe

:good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
people who have audio problem after "root unlock" can use this trick temporary.in this trick there is no issue in audio..and i think the audio fix option will come soon.
ok here is The latest trick for interop unloking listed lumia devices.i will write the post shortly.the 60% work will do the wpinternal app.so u have to read the post.
View attachment 3562770
now save the file by pressing "Ctrl+S"
now a msg box will appear on 7z file manager just click yes...
after that put/replace the modified software.reg files in the (new mounted drive>windows>packages>registry files) folder.
now soft reset ur phone by clicking "volume down+power button" for 10 second.
then the phone will boot up normally..now u have to must give a hard reset ur phone to get the new capabilities unlocked...
N.B.-
somethings u must be remembered that the unlock will be parmanent.and i will not responsible for any kind of harm in ur phone.and devices which (like 720) doesn't have sbl3 partitions,u can also unlock ur device by dumping ur phone partition.for this u have to read WPinternals getting started section.
