[Q] Only able to access download mode - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was testing out a few roms and decided to stick with stock. Successfully restored a previous backup however, i can only access download mode now, and it only goes to the LG Boot screen then nothing or Firmware update [B87 Rooted]. I had the latest TWRP. Im on a mac right now but have access to a pc if needed.

There's a hundreds of fix threads for this. Look at General or dev thread of you model.

I had this problem in the past and needed to use the LG tool to factory restore.

[Q] Flashing through Download mode

LG G2 Verizon Wireless, locked bootloader
I was trying to wipe my data through TWRP for G2, when it crashed. Not able to boot into recovery, and when putting the phone in download mode, the Windows Flash Tool (UpTestEx) does not give any errors, but the phone doesn't seem to do anything.
Any ideas?

The correct one is "grouper" if yours is the wifi variant or "tilapia" if yours is the 3G variant.
You can find the download links here. If you can't download them to your PC, try establishing a VPN using a US server. Always works for me when I wanna download from goo.im

Thanks a lot i really appreciate it , i will try to download it tonight

No, you'll need a computer for at least part of the process. What firmware ate you on?
I have a deathly slow xp laptop available.
Firmware is i337UCUEMK2

Well luckily rooting isn't that system taxing. I rooted mine on a 2006 laptop...slow but worked
Just read this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314494
and use this method to root:

You can't install a custom recovery if you have mk2 firmware your bootloader is locked and currently the only way to run a custom ROM is to use safe strap. You can try this to unbrick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573080 or take it to a best buy with a Samsung experience shop and beg them to flash it.

Well not sure what steps to do as the phone is in download mode. I see the 4th post in that thread has boot modem and recovery and that seems to be what screwed up flashing twrp. I could try that set of steps and see or can I flash back to the previous firmware and be all good and hope the MK2 ota is pushed to me.

Well I flashed the stock recovery and boot img and I got my phone back. Will wait to see if twrp gets supported before flashing a custom rom.

You can't get twrp to work unless someone counteracts sammy's bootloader lockdown--I don't see that happening anytime soon
You need to use SafeStrap as mentioned--read up a lot on it in the General and Q&A sections
You can still flash a fair number of quality roms, but you are limited
You must use SafeStrap's recovery, which if memory serves me, is loosely based on twrp

New update

I got notice there was a Verizon update software update for my G2 today. I downloaded it and tried to install it. After about 3%, it stopped and get an error code: Ox117008. I am rooted, but that is it. No special roms, or anything other than stock rom.
I did however had xposed installed at one time, but has been uninstalled.
I tried factory reset, but the update still errored out.
Does anyone know what is going on? Do not tell me I have to flash a stock image!
Anyway, thanks a ton!

How do I get Vs980 into download mode? I downloaded everything to flash stock firmware. When I went to flash, it stopped and said my phone was disconnected, unplug and reconnect. It did this over and over. I installed the lg drivers.
Do I need to be in some kind of mode for it to work? Do I need to shut phone off and hold buttons to get into update mode? HELP!!!!
