Can anyone guide me which png changes what in the framework?
I mean like any step by step guide for knowing which png is for what screen, like stat_sys_battery_40.png is for Battery at 40%.
Thanks, I'm new to this, and I just want to theme my rom to my taste.

There are hundreds of pngs - to say what each one does is not practical
most are described as it actually is - eg batt is battery or you can just look at the png and see what is
if you want to do something specific best thing to do is search for a guide for what you want to do - eg add epm to framework

The best way is to find two services.jar from same ROM - one with, and one without percentage batt and compare them.
Good apps for comparing two files are in my opinion: ExamDiff for Windows and xxdiff for Linux

thanks a lot. Apparently LSteam already did the editing of the services.jar so he saved me a lot of work. you should probably try pushing his services.jar. it might add the % overlay.
nevermind what i said. He went the easy way and did the changes on the framework. I guess ill have to do the whole editing thing.

I want to remove recent apps from the status bar.
The SystemUI.apk is from Hintay's HTX Mod 0.59.1|Android 2.3.3
I browsed all the forum and tried all these methods but didn't work on 2.3.3.
The methods I tried as below:

There are two ways, one easy and one hard. In the hard one you kind of remove all the functionality of the recent apps section. In the easy one you just adjust the height to 0, so It's not visible. I only know the easy one do you know how to decompile apps? If not take a look in my guide ;-)
Then you can probably just do as the guides says or something. I haven't seen through them yet ;-) else go to res/ layout/ status bar expanded and find the line which includes recent apps or something similar. Change layout_height to 0.0dp ;-)
Edit: took a look at the guides. They are a bit more work, but you should use one of them instead, as they remove the whole thing so it will probably improve performance a bit more

The purpose i want to remove the recent apps is just as you said it will improve performance when pulling down the notification bar.
So only adjusting the height to 0 may not improve the performance and reduce the laggy. Just my guess.

But when you tried the guides, did you decompile the systemui or did you just open it with 7zip or smthing? You cannot change any xmls or smalis or stuff like that unless you decompile it
yes, i use apktool to decompile the SystemUI.apk and Notepad++Portable to edit.

by the way,i tryed your rom and i can tell is very slow,i suggest you to try Rose v5

right, it's slow. but when i delete some apks such as htc hub, htc likes etc. and then add some scripts (06loopy_smoothness_tweak, 13KickAssKernel, 15cleanup_init_ram, 17speedy_modified, 30memtweak) from [ROM][2.3.5] Zero Hero Sense 3.5 RC 2.5 [Mar. 2, 2012] and also enable swap.
after that you will find this rom is really fast!

Your question is too vague - state exactly what you want to do if you want support from members
There is lots of things you can edit in framework-res and android.policy
Best to type into Google what you want to do and search for a guide
It looks from your pics you have just created a working folder in kitchen
You need to decompile the apk you want to edit with apktool then edit xmls smalis and pngs - again search for a guide for exactly what you want to do

again too vague - you cant just say you want to replace the SystemUI - that is an entire apk - Unless you are just going to replace it with a SystemUI.apk from another rom but I would not recommend that as if you are going to release the rom you wouldn't have permission to do so plus the apk may have dependences of other apks and mods that you would also need to include
You need to know exactly what you want to mod
If you want to mod the SystemUI.apk you would need to decompile the apk with apktool and edit what you want - You will find guides to do this if you search google - You will find a guide to decompiling apks in my signature which has all my threads.
If you want to add lidroid toogles for example search for galaxy y xda how to add lidroid toggles in google
Same if you want to edit the framework to add extended power menu search for that
You cant just say I want to replace this and that apk
Also calling yourself a noob is no excuse - You have to learn how to use google and how to use the search feature to find what you want to do and then read everything - Once you have understood the basics and you know what you want to achieve only then if after trying you can post in the respective threads for any support relating to the thread
Anyone know of a working smaller navbar mod (not using xposed) that works on MHC19I ? or able to point me in the direction of guide that allows me to attempt to make one myself ?
Looking to stay stock+rooted, rather than a custom rom.

EDIT - I've modified framework-res.apk for MHC19I - Grab it here. Mod changes navbar to 24 instead of 48 height.
* Backup your original /system/framework-res.apk and replace it with the download.
I'd recommend to flash resurrection remix rom where you can set the navbar to 24dp.

U can make it by editing framework-res.apk
Decompile framework-res.apk then go to res/values/dimens.xml there u can change it.

So I've decompiled and made the edit, recompiled and signed the apk, pushed it to my device and replaced the original.. but now it just sits on the bootup logo animination and I cant get past that stage.
Hopefully you have a backup that you can restore. If not, push the stock framework via adb

Aww yuss. I followed a different guide from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814441 and found I was missing a few steps (copying the META-INF etc)
Much success now.

I found EMUI themes on the internet which changed the design of various third party apps like f.e. WhatsApp. So I know, I could just take the theme, and edit the com.whatsapp file in it, but there are not all design elements of the app included. So my question: How can I find out the name of every design element and file name to change the design of every part of each app?
This is huge process i think
I'd just need the name of the elements for this xml file and the rest of the file structure where the media files for icons are (with their name). How could other people do it then? Isn't there a way to easily find that out? ?
I guess you have to decompile the apps in question and look at their source code for the correct names for elements. Probably a bit time consuming process yes. But that's probably how they all do it.
Thanks, I decompiled WhatsApp.apk and am now trying to understand how this whole thing works... I still don't understand everything especially because of the theme.xml file which obviously only exists in the theme, but not in the decompiled WhatsApp.apk. But I'm going to try to find out everything by try and error

Does anyone know how to edit the chat bubbles in Whatsapp using the EMUI themes? I already tried to enter another color inside the theme.xml:
<color name="bubble_color_outgoing">#ffd29bd7</color>
And I also tried to edit those files (see attachment) inside /res/drawable-hdpi-v4/, /res/drawable-xhdpi-v4/ and /res/drawable-xxhdpi-v4/.
Nothing changed. Is the EMUI theming engine unable to edit those chat bubbles or is there another file that I missed?
