My Nexus 7 (2012) is taking a long time to fully charge here in Thailand. I highly suspect that the move to Thailand is the cause because in the United States my Nexus would fully charge in 2.5 - 3 hours.
My original cable and charger broke or got worn out however I have replaced the charger with another 2A charger and use an HTC Cable to charge with.
Now, here is some information I would like to know. If I were to buy an external battery pack and kept it fully charged and recharged my tablet solely from the pack would that speed up the charge time for the tablet? Is there an issue with the HTC cable? I experimented with other micro usb cables and the only cable that seems to work in the HTC cable. I know there are proper USB 3.0 micro usb cables so maybe that is the issue?

Yes it can, but you'll only get a trickle charge from a PC with Samsung products.

Yeah, sure, but you'll need a usb charger for the lighter and it will probably only trickle charge.
There's an adaptor that you can get that modifies the connections specifically for Samsung products so they get a full charge from USB sockets that aren't the charger. I've had a look on ebay buy can't find one. I got one just for a couple of quid, so if you can find one of them then it'll solve the trickle issue.
I'll keep looking and see if I can find it for you - you do the same

I charged via USB from my PC this night. It went from around 25% to 99% in 8 hours. So it's charging, but not too fast.
It is a 7.7 forum not 7 plus and about the problem the device is actually charging from usb but not showing, turn your device off while connected to pc and you will see yourself

It all depends on the charging current. A USB port only provides a maximum of 500mA whereas the Samsung charger provides up to 2000mA (2A). That's the reason why every tablet out there comes with its own propietary charger.
Turning the tablet off is the best you can do when charging via USB.

There are motherboards with 1Amp USB ports, mine has one but it charges the device at a very very slow rate!

Can I use the PC to recharge it trough micro USB?
If I can recharge it in this way, recharging needs more time?

1. Yes, you can recharge over your PC USB
2. Yes, unless you have high output USB ports (default charger is 2A, most PC USB ports are 500mA to 900mA) so the charge time is longer.

You can only charge it if the screen is off or better yet if the device is off. Give it 12 hours for a full charge over standard 500mA USB.

Yeah, if you use your nexus 7 while its plugged in to the USB port of your PC you will loose battery, in Particularly if you are gaming lol. Mine when down from of 7% in 30 mins. Use a wall charger.

Surely you could buy a separate microUSB wall charger from somewhere in your country.
I've been using HTC and galaxy s2 charge. Had no problems and charging is very fast. Went from 30 to full in 2.5 hours

You could always use a power adapter as well adapt from us plugs to your countries plugs

A Standard AC USB Charger will do the job in most cases, I'm using a powered Logitech USB Hub that just charges my BT Headset, my Galaxy S2 and now my Nexus 7.
If you want some faster charging times a Standard iPad USB charger plug should work, (they're rated for 2.1A instead of the 1A of the Normal iPhone chargers) just use the MicroUSB cable that you have and plug it in.
In response to your App Charger driver, it's probably that AsRock has built their USB ports and plumbed it in to higher +5V Amp line on your motherboard ie. they can deliver more power than the Standard USB Spec (500mA), I'm guessing at their 40% faster claim the port is delivering 900mA.
Good luck! The Nexus 7 has a 4326 mAh battery (ie 2.6x bigger than the Galaxy S2 Battery) so it'll take much longer to fill than all the Smartphones

I have found a USB powered QI charger for the Nexus 4 on eBay with an input of 5V and an output of 5V/1A. Two questions following from that...
1) Will the charge time be the same as if I just charged via USB?
2) Instead of connecting the USB end to my PC, could I not connect it to supplied Nexus 4 wall charger? If so, does it specs comply with those of the QI charger I just mentioned (i.e. will I get a fast charge time?)

Expect the charge times to be more compared to the Usb charger.. It can be ordered on fasttech.com for $40. Yes.. usb powered.. The AC adapter one on fasttech is $35.. All hav free shipping!!!!!
ii) That would depend on how much power the wireless charger needs.. The normal nexus 4 adapter is 1.2A.. If the wireless charger wants 1.5A, it will be slower due to less power... but since it is USB powered.. normal pc/laptop usb ports give 0.5A so your original nexus 4 adapter will be fine!!!!
Also.. wirless charging tends to heat up the phone sometimes.. so watch your temps..
I have the Energizer Qi charger and they warn that the Nexus supplied wall charger should not be used to power the WiFi charger. It doesn't have the power capacity to run the wireless charger.

The cahrging rate is almost the same
The power requirment for this charger is 5v 2A input. According to my test, as long as your power supply stay above 1A output, you will have no problem at all, just will charge a little bit slower. but once I hooked up with a samsung charger that was rated at 700ma, the red light goes on after a beep. The problem is, most of the usb chargers in the market are overrated that's why you will get red light on with these inferior charger. I purchased mine from a seller on eBay called gadgetsalon who included a original HP Touchpad adapter with my purchase which is fully rated 2A output, I have been using mine for almost 2 months now never had a single problem ever with my Tmobile GS3. BTW, I charge my phone with a ballistic case on all the time.

At the moment my phone is charging with 0.2A maximum, even with a 2A wall charger ...
The only working charger is my classic Nexus 6P TypeC-TypeC ..

I don't know about the first part of your question regarding the OTG cable, but can say that any compliant USB-A cable is limited to 2.4A in the absolute best of conditions. You may find an answer in the Accessories sub-forum where most of the charger and cable discussions are.
When you say your phone is charging at 0.2A using a 2A wall charger, that may be normal. Are you measuring the input current when the battery is completely dead, or closer to full? The phone itself limits the charging current by it's built-in charging profile, so it will only accept full charging from 0-40% then taper off to zero as it approaches being fully charged. See the 6P charging graph. Even with the stock USB-C to USB-C 3A charger, you're only getting less than 0.2A amp during the last 10% of charging. Not only that, but the phone keeps accepting even less current for almost an hour past 100%.
Here's a solution for my problem, first let me you clear the problem/ my case:
I want to use my Nexus 6P as a Android desktop computer.
I already found a way to charge and use multiple USB devices (using a USB hub)

I also bought a chromecast because sadly we cannot use HDMI, there is no DisplayPort on our Nexus 6P.
Everything were working perfectly except the fact that my phone was discharging, while actually charging with a 2.0A USB 2.0 wall charger.
Here is the solution:
FInd a way to power up a 16V case fan (those fans that are a inside your desktop case) and make a stand for your phone, COOL YOUR SNAPDRAGON BABY!
Phone is still charging slowly, while the temperature is at 24Celsius stabilised!

sorry for the newbie question, but i am loving this phone so far EXCEPT i have never been able to charge it to more than 60% so far because i dont have the original charger. and every single other method i've tried charges it around 200mA (measured by ampere) and it only goes up around 10% after 10 hours of charging
previously, i use a LG G3 and i get 1000mA via various methods like:
-plugging it into the computer's USB3 or USB2 port on the charging only mode
-using older "fast" chargers that range between 1.5A to 2.0A
I'm using a standard USB-C cable (bought from amazon) with the above
if i dont get the "newer" chargers, is there any way i can still charge the essential to a "reasonable" speed?
You can use one of the power delivery chargers (Anker, Aukey, etc) on Amazon. They will fast charge the PH-1. The charger for Chromebook Pro and MacBook also works well. Might also be able to get a replacement charger from Essential depending on where the phone was originally purchased. They sent me a free replacement charger and cable after the original charger stopped working.

It sounds like you need a new cable or power brick, the cable being the likliest point of failure.

You need to buy a charger that supports Quick Charge if you want to charge rapidly.
Otherwise figure on nothing more than about 500mA.
At 500mA from empty figure 6 hours to charge.
Buy a charger.
