[Q] Help With SIM and ROM - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi,
I recently rooted my Samsung GS4-i337m variant.
I had a SIM that worked pretty well. It used to go out a bit, but a reboot would work fine to get it working again every few days.
After everything was fine, and working stable, I decided to install a ROM.
I installed PA, and verified that it was the correct ROM, for my model.
It worked quite well for a few days. The SIM had the same problem as before, but a reboot would work fine, like before.
Today, I had time to get my SIM changed, and after doing so, after rebooting the phone, it immediately refused to use the SIM card. It did not give a warning, but simply said "No Service." After trying to go through multiple settings to no avail, I decided to restore to an older backup, from my stock ROM.
I tried this, got an error, and had to stay with Paranoid.
I still have the same problem.
So, are there any solutions to this?
Any app or setting to fix this?
The phone is not unlocked.
tl;dr:
Phone used to work fine on PA, and after changing SIM, it rejected the SIM. Help.

ERROR!!! ''com.android.phone'' HELP

i've been reading this forum for a while, but
today I ran into a problem I really can't
solve.hoping that
one of you guys could offer some advice.
Here's the deal (I'll try to make it as short
as possible):
I've got an xperia x8, which worked fine
on my previous official stock ROM 2.1.
I installed a custom ROM (froyobread v.12)today and i keep gettn notified that ''com.android.phone'' had
stopped unexpectedly.
I've done everything I can think of, but this
problem persists as long as the current
SIM card is in. After each force close, the error
just repeats itself. Here's what I know:
other SIM card works flawlessly in the
phone with the custom ROM.
The error doesn't occur until it tries to
connect to the cellular network with the current SIM
Neither a soft nor a hard reset does
anything.
As I see it, there are a couple of options:
I think The SIM card is incompatible with the ROM because it works great on my old phone n also works great when i go bact to my original stock ROM 2.1.
If anyone can offer some insight or advice,
I'll very much appreciate it!
Thanks!
Did you try a full wipe? And just btw, I have a something like 10 years old sim card and it runs ok with FroyoBread
This is a known error for all custom ROMs. There are reports from Vietnamese guys saying that with some SIM cards it got FCs.
The only solution is to change SIM card, hopefully it will be compatible with custom ROMs. I don't have any problem like this so I cannot fix it myself.
yh gravier i did all the wipes seems to happen only when i put that particular sim in.
dx exactly what i have in mind, sad part is my operator phased out all the old type of sim and replaced it with this new type which is givin me all dis problems. thanks for d help man n oh great rom

[Q] SIM card broke my two phones (can only make calls while just 2g is enabled)

Hi, I recently started having trouble with my gf's phone (Nexus 4 running lollipop 5.0, lte enabled, tmo). It started shortly after I enabled a SIM lock pin on the sim, but not sure if that's the cause or not... The phone started to intermittently drop signal, and would not make calls (it would just appear to be dialing, but you'd hear no ringing and never connect). When I'd restart the phone, I could usually make a call. I tried to fix it by restoring everything the stock image, rechecking the apn, making sure stock radio was installed, etc, but the problem persisted and eventually got to the point that voice calls did not work at all. LTE and data worked to get onto the internet, but once a call was attempted to be made, it'd lose all signal. I discovered eventually that if I switched off lte/4g/3g, and only kept gsm 2g on, I could make a voice call. Next I tried her SIM card in my phone (Note 2 on Android 4.4, t-mobile) and as soon as I put her sim in, my phone started doing the same thing. After switching back to my SIM (that was working just fine, before), now MY phone is stuck with the same problem! (Can only make calls with just 2g enabled). I'm at a total loss. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or do you have possible solutions/ideas on how to fix this?

I flashed back to stock image a couple of times via wugfresh toolkit, but got the same results each time. I did, however, just fix my note 2 by removing my sim (the one that was previously working), flashing stock via odin (didn't help in recovery), and then replacing the original sim. This leads me to believe that the sim in the n4 is somehow corrupted and once loaded, permanently changes some settings somewhere. (I hope that's the problem, and not the phone). I'll pick up another sim card from tmo tomorrow and try flashing stock again before loading it. Any idea what would cause this? The only thing I did different was set up sim lock on the card, and it seemed to work just fine for a while, till it didn't... Thanks for the help, I'll let you know if the new sim works.
Solved
For anyone who may be having the same problem, here is how I solved it. I picked up a new sim card from t-mobile, flashed a stock rom via toolkit (with the sim card not installed), loaded rom, installed sim, loaded correct apn. Everything works as it should now.

[N9005] RessurectionRemix doesn't detect SIM card

Hi,
when I got my Note 3, I immediately installed Cyanogenmod and from then I only swapped between custom ROMs.
I never actually made a backup of the stock system. (Yes, I was reckless.)
I also never made a backup of any custom ROM before that (Yes, I was really reckless.)
I recently switched from the unofficial Ressurection Remix (from now just called RR) 5.8.2 to the official RR 5.8.4 and since then my SIM card is not detected anymore.
For the setup, I first followed the guide on the thread itself.
Then I paniced and looked up stock firmware for my device, but since they all had more specific names like N9005XXUBMH1 (my phone only says N9005 under the battery), I couldn't identify which one was the correct one and just downloaded a whole bunch and flashed them until one of them worked.
The stock firmware I flashed actually had a working SIM, but was also using power like crazy. I went from 1.5 days to half a day. The stock OS is also horribly bloated in my opinion.
So I looked through the forum and found the Rock Stable Setup, I followed it and got the same result.
I made plenty of nandroid backups with TWRP and restored that every time I started the phone and saw that the SIM wasn't found.
I am currently running RR 5.8.4 and a seperate phone for being reachable, but I would really like reduce that to one phone again.
When I dial *#06# in RR, I just see a windows with IMEI as title but no content. (It shows one in the stock ROM)
Things I have already tried:
Solution Lineage OS No Sim
UpdatePackage by -ION-
If you need any more information, I'd be happy to provide them!
I just really want to use my phone to it's fullest capability again.
Thanks to all replies in advance

I know that there are a lot of threads regarding this issue, but most of them are different phones (not N9005) or different conditions.
The ones that I did find that match my conditions roughly are already listed in the first post.
Therefore I belive that my case is different from those threads.
If you find one that I messed, please refer me.
RR rom
Answer You are using an Old Modem .

I only now read about 'getting the firmware to stick'.
I had to flash it three times until both the bootloader and modem versions changed.
Now I have a differen problem:
I can't call or send SMS.
Mobile data works and receiving calls and SMS works flawlessly, even though it sometimes loses contact with the tower.
Anything that cam up in search had either everything not working or solved it in a way that didn't work for me.
I tried rebooting, putting it in a different phone (SIM works there just fine) and putting it back...
Same here... my SIM card is not detected.
I canĀ“t find a way to make it connect to my mobile provider...
It shows no EMEI in "Phone info" app, I asked for help in a RR thread...
If you make it work, please, reply here.

Have to eject sim after a reboot for the phone to read it (Global Rom)

Hello everyone. After a lengthy battle, yesterday I finally was able to unlock my bootloader, flash a global rom (via MiFlash) to my Redmi Note 7 and lock the bootloader again using fastboot.
However I've encountered an issue that is very annoying. Every time the phone boots, it fails to read my Sim card, so I'm forced to eject it and then reinsert it in order for it to work properly. I use an SD card and I tend to reboot my phone once or twice a week, so you can get an idea of how much of an inconvenience this is.
I'm pretty sure this must be a software Issue because before the ROM change, I've never had an Issue with this. My phone model is M1901F7H and the rom is Miui global (10.3 Stable 10.3.5.0).
I need to mention that my current carrier (I got the phone from them) disables the hybrid sd card/sim slot and sells the phone with only one working sim slot and a custom ROM. After installing the global rom I noticed that now I can enable/disable the dual 4G connectivity for both sims toggle (it was greyed out before) however that is the only option regarding the dual sim settings that I can interact with and the second slot is still only usable for an Sdcard.
Currently I don't care much about the dual Sim feature, but it has crossed my mind that maybe my current Issue is related to this?
Anyways, thank you for taking your time to read this post and I apologize for the wall of text.
I would be very grateful if someone could help out.
Edit: I forgot to mention that one of my banking apps is now unusable as it crashes over and over again since I've installed the Global Rom. Don't know if it's related to the issue, but it worked just fine beforehand.
Check out my thread.
I'm also on 10.3.5 and think the issue is software related.
After reading your post, I'm thinking we may have something similar going on. My phone is working fine with no problems reading the SIM card after a factory reset a few days ago.
Hopefully you don't end up having the exact same problem I did.
I also have the same problem, I have to take out the SIM every time I reboot, I have the derpfest ROM and so far I have not been able to solve the error.

"No SIM card detected" & "No service"

Hi all,
I have a problem with my XC, i hope there's someone here who could help me out with this .
I get a SIM card error when i start the phone. After a while (5-10 mins) the error transforms into "No Service" as if the phone now detects the SIM card but has no service whatsoever.
Things i did to my phone prior to this:
- unlocked bootloader
- installed custom recovery
- root
- installed custom ROM
- drm fix
The phone did function properly for a few months actually after these operations without a SIM card error even once. But then i tried to install custom ROMs again (and i'm sure didn't flash ROMs not suited for XC) -actually tried to install "existenz" ROM but i did get a bootloop so i -once again- did the usual procedure with flashtool and flashed a firmware to set everything back to stock as close as possible. That was, when i started to get the SIM card errors. After several restarts (cold and warm) the phone sometimes recognized the SIM card and i could use the phone normally. But this was true only till the next restart, where i got the same SIM errors again.
Things i tried:
- flashed several different firmwares (official) with flashtool (wiping everything) - all the newest firmwares.
- *#*#72786#*#* in dialer to wipe carrier settings
- *#*#4636#*#* in dialer to go into phone settings and changing those settings randomly
- flashed another AOSP based custom ROM instead of stock sony
- wiping and formatting everything between the flashes of course
- cleaning and re-inserting SIM card (which i never took out before anyway)
But unfortunately nothing worked. Phone keeps to not recognizing the SIM card (which is working just fine in another phone). Everything else works just fine on the phone. The IMEI is displaying correct. I'm almost certain that the fault isn't hardware-based (i didn't drop the phone or exposed in water etc.) but software-based. Did i just managed to brick my phone by flashing something related to the modem which i'm not aware of?
I can't find any solutions on google, which help me, which is why i'm posting it here. Sorry for the long post.
Did anyone experience such an error and/or knows what else i could try to fix this? I hope for answers
Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
I've got the same problem.
I didn't unlock the bootloader or anything prior to getting the bug.
I wanted to downgrade to nougat, because aparently it helped someone in the forum below, but I didn't manage to do it.
https:// de.ifixit. com/Antworten/Ansehen/468864/Sim+Card+not+picking+up+mobile+network.+Possible+software+issue+(Oreo)
Did you try nougat, when flashing different firmwares?
Your post makes me question if its worth it, trying to downgrade.
Try to remove sd card if you have one. then restart the phone and see if sim card is recognized.
I had the same problem and I think it was a hardware failure in the end.
I also tried almost all the things you were writing above. In my phone it started slowly. Sometimes the SIM was detected but after some time the connection was lost.
It happened some time after I installed a new battery.
But since there are no original batteries available for the device anymore and the new battery was even worse than the 5 year old original battery, I gave up investigating the SIM issue and don't use the phone any longer.
I bought a new (used) x compact because I still like the size and I saw some development was going on for this device.
In the end I cannot tell whether the SIM was not detected because I broke something while changing the battery or due to age of the phone but I think it was a "normal" failure.
I also read from others that they had the problem and the SIM was working for some time after I switched the battery before it stopped working.
Nevertheless. Good Luck to you. Maybe it is something different on your phone.
