[Q] Speaking Of Possibled bricked phones - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I may have soft bricked my S4. I was trying to unlock the SIM for it yesterday and stopped due to a problem with getting the MSL so i just continued to use my phone as normal after following these galaxys4root(.)com/galaxy-s4-tutorials/how-to-unlock-sim-on-sprint-galaxy-s4/instructions I got to step 11 and gave up for the day.
I tried to load a different MDL and i kept getting a fail. Now i cant even boot my phone up to the OS.
Any thoughts of even just pointing me in the right direction :|

Im now at firmware upgrade encountered an iussue please select recovery mode in Kies & try again

Ill be using Samsung kies and probably start over
Id still like help on trying to actually sim unlock a SPH L-720 since ive yet to find a newish guide that walks through the downgrade to get the MSL# and such

Sounds like your on 4.3 if that's the case there is no downgrading to anything lower. In case your going to just have to Odin a 4.3 firmware..
Use this:
Mk2 link http://www.androidayos.com/2013/12/...-ota-update-mja-mk2-fixes-sleep-mode-problem/

So i decided to message samsung and they told me go to best buy and have them reflash my OS think they can put it to 4.2.2?

If you were on 4.3 already than even Best Buy won't be able to install 4.2.2. I would save my self the hassle and just odin the MK2 tar file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601443 it is the fastest download speed. Then when you go to do the sim unlock, autoprime's thread has a link to an MDC modem only file to flash for the downgrade. You can not downgrade the whole firmware, but you can downgrade just the modem to accomplish the unlock.

[Q][!]I think I may be bricked?

I rooted my device using the motochopper (thank djrbliss!) and all was going fine, until one day I rebooted my device and I couldn't boot to Android! Odin mode and recovery (Vol down and up, respectively) work, but when booting normally, the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo shows, and then fades to black. The phone is not off, because the blue LED comes on after about 30 seconds, and stays on. I thought I would go into recovery (Vol up) and choose factory reset. I did, but the problems stayed the same. I have the i337m (telus/koodo) and I thought I could download a stock image and flash via Kies or Odin, but can't find a Canadian dump! I don't want to flash an AT&T version because I'm afraid it may mess up my radio or lock the bootloader (I heard the bl was unlocked on 'm' variants) Please help!
EDIT: Not even Kies' Firmware upgrade and Initialization is working, it says "Please check the model name and enter it."
EDIT 2: Even Samsung's Call Centre rep. says to return it to the Koodo retailer.
EDIT 3: Finally! I installed TWRP via Odin, and CM 10.1 via TWRP. Now all I need is the stock Canadian recovery image.
Fixed. Mods please delete this thread.
ahhh man. this is scaring me a bit since no one really reported a brick. I dont recommend flashing anything but the version meant for you. hmmm might need to patiently wait a little. or try the international version but is your version the snap dragon or the octacore.

The Canadian Snapdragon
Ah okay, I installed TWRP in Odin and then CM. It works, but Wifi and a bunch of other stuff is borked. And Kies still returns with the same error message. I can't get stock at all. If anyone has a stock i337m image, please help!

Hmmm TWRP does work on your device right now which is good. Maybe you can ask someone with the device. (your friends or what ever) and create a back up of their phone. after that you can flash it back onto yours.
or yeah with a stock i337m
edit : if u dont want stock . but wants it fixed.
" CM10.1 Now available for Canadian Variants "
Okay, it's fixed. Kies doesn't work on Windows 8. Mods please delete this thread.
Why do you wanna have your thread deleted ?
Why do you wanna have your thread deleted, it might be useful to some people like me trying to find information about the KDO galaxy s4 SGH-I337M, which seams to be pretty scarce around.
That said, i need help to root that phone, i cant find the right version of CWM to flash. is the Canada/Bell one work on the Koodo s4 ?

Hey everyone... so I have a problem and im not sure if anything will work... so I tried the free unlock method but it didnt work...but then my phone updated to the mf3 baseband... and when I got an unlock code it was denied.. I looked it up and its because I tried the free method... anyone know how I can get back onto mf3... would kies emergency recovery fix anything... quick replies would be appreciated since i just flew to england and need my phone
Afaik, if you try the free unlock too many times the phone permanently locks the ability to unlock it. There is no way to get that ability back.
I only tried the free unlock mode once, but now I can't get it to unlock with the unlock code I have. And I know there is a way if you have the old firmware to fix the problem, but I was wondering if Kies emergency restore would revert it back to the old firmware, or using Odin and a sammobile firmware would fix my issues

Don't listen to other forums. Stick to the real deal Xda att s4 section. There is no way to Odin, kies restore, etc to an older firmware if you took the official MF3 update. As to unlock, you can try fastgsm. They charge $15 via remote PC. Many folks used it since using the free unlock method toasted their unlocked via code method.

Just trying to get my Sprint Samsung S4 SPH-L720 over to T-mobile or at&t. Someone that could point us in the right direction with getting NG2 unlocked Internationally then domestically

Looks like neither of ya'll read enough. Well follow this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703955
There are other similar threads to search and read on.
Once we got the 4.3 MJA update. There was when out bootloader got locked by knox security from Samsung. We can't downgrade to any firmware by Odin but we can downgrade by ROMs just not the bootloader. You either need to use the firmware you are using to restore or update to a newer firmware.
Side comment. I still don't know why would you buy a specific phone for a carrier and use it for another carrier. Doesn't make sense.

It's all about pennies, here in Mexico it's almost 1/3 of retail price if you bring a smartphone from USA and unlock it

You might want to Odin back to stock ng2 and do a factory reset. Also have you change your apns? That could be why you aren't getting 3g.

Rooted Verizon phone is messed up

I had issues so I tried various things and have no luck. I had a rooted S5 on lollipop and now I have actually broke the phone part and unable to make calls. What I want to do is find a way to keep the constant message "unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped. I have done a factory reset and lost everything. no biggie but I would like to get my phone back and still keep root. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I was told I would get more replies in this forum but so far nothing.. I am desperate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe if posted in the Questions and answers section...that section gets more traffic
I did first
Just tried Towelroot but I am unable to connect to the internet at all with my phone.
sounds like you may need to load a factory firmware with PIT file using ODIN.
OK where is that located?
I have odin 3.9
sammobile dot com / firmwares
find your model (G900V) and download latest firmware to flash. Looks like BOE1 was added last week.
You may want to try an older 4.4.2 rom, but it is my understanding that Verizon has a locked bootloader, and you can't downgrade once you already have 5.0 on your phone.
Thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am back to normal again. Appreciate it very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK I lost root, what do I install now running lollipop
I have searched for many hours and haven't found anything. If anyoone has a process that works on 900V verizon S5, please let me know the process. (and i just bought Titanium backup). ugggg .. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Isn't there a way to go back to a previous version then back to lollipop as I did have root on lollipop before I screwed up my phone?

No, if you went the prerooted way i think you could have downgraded, but since you have odined the full lollipop stock you cant downgrade as far as i know.

Wish I had known that before I redid it. Anyone know if there is a way?
I wish I had read about this before I put it on my phone! Verizon OE1 update prevents rooting/downgrading

Please Direct me

I am currently using ATT Galaxy S4 I33t running 5.0.1 and Can someone please direct me to the correct links to root this device.
I am done some searching but seems a bit scrambled and miss information.

You can use wondershare mobilego to root the phone. The software has one-click root. This is the easiest way however the software also install a lot adds on your phone.
If you want to do the clean manual route...
1.You need to downgrade your phone to Kit-kat 4.4.2 NB1/NC1 .
2. Use towel root to root the phone.
3. Install safestrap or flash fire.
4. Flash the desire Lollipop rom via safestrap or flashfire.
You can find all the instruction and files in this post.
question after downgrading can i upgrade back to 5.0.1 or do i have to use a custom rom ?

You do not have to. There are stock rooting 5.0.1 roms. You can find them in here.

Don't know much about magisk on i-337. . I am not sure whether you need a unlocked bootloader to use magisk. I saw magisk on zenfone 2 though. Then again zenfone 2 bootloader can be unlocked. All the i377 BL are locked. Only the initial one (ADB, MDL) could be exploitable (not unlock).
My next phone gonna be something other then Samsung and something other then att for sure lol

Then you better be on T-mobile
Most smart phone make for US came with locked bootloaders.
To avoid that I bought international version. The problem with international phone on ATT network is that you can not get 4GLTE signal for mobile data. You can get either 3G or 4G based on your phone. ATT told me that only phone make for ATT network could get the 4GLTE signal.
I heard international phone can get 4GLTE signal on T-mobile network.
