[Q] LTE Support on Rooted Note 3 Ireland - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
First of all I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this thread, it just seems like the related threads are in this forum.
First of all I have the international unbranded version of the note three (SM-N9005), which I rooted in order to use VPN. I did this using the chainfire method which of course tripped the knox flag, I'm not griping about that because I don't really care about the warranty, just giving facts.
This then prevents the phone from checking for updates properly saying "device has been modified" or something like that.
I'm on three ireland and they very recently switched on 4g/lte network support but you need to accept an ota update to enable it. Therein lies my problem, I can't accept an ota update.
I would have no problem unrooting to accept an update, but that doesn't reset the knox flag and my phone will still show up as modified and considering the amount of effort I would have to go through to unroot just to end up on the same situation as I'm in already is not worth it.
I have tried the viaero 4g toggle app but this just gives a black screen for me. I also tried the persist.radio.lteon.xml fix but I couldn't find that file to change the setting. These solutions suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468624&page=2
So my questions:
Is there any way to flash some sort of firmware unofficially to give lte support?
If I flashed a custom rom would that give me lte support? Or do I need to flash the official 3 Ireland lte firmware first?
If that will work, can anyone recommend a rom to install?
Finally has anyone managed to get themselves out of a similar situation yet?
Hope somebody can help,
Thanks for reading

If you reflash back to complete Stock your status will show Official, also you can try a custom ROM, ALL of them are capable of getting LTE by default. I have no issues with them.

Thanks for the quick reply radicalisto, to be honest I'm ready to move away from touchwiz so a custom ROM sounds like a good solution to me. Choosing one is the conundrum. Are any of them more stable/full featured than the rest? I would appreciate any advice about a ROM to choose.

Well to be honest, custom ROMs are trial and error, but the new Kitkat ROMs are awesome, I personally tried them all and have settled on one (won't say which cause it may sway you haha) - however these are TW based ROMs.
If you are on 4.3 still and fancy CM11 -- Two ROMs you should try are temasek's CM11 + Yank555's kernel (amazing pal) - Or ProBAM with Yank555's kernel (Just as good as temasek's) both are packed with great features, awesome battery life and generally just great. However you may or may not know, CM doesn't support SPen functions, you'd have to use GMDSPen or another alternative.
EDIT: Little side note, again not sure if you are aware.. if you flash Kitkat 4.4.2 your bootloader upgrades so you cannot use CM, as it runs on 4.3's bootloader, there is no downgrade option either currently.

Not that I'm so concerned about the CM bootloader using 4.3, but would I be safe in assuming that the CM team will have to eventually switch to the 4.4 bootloader?

Well you're allowed to tell me as I was asking to be swayed...
I'm thinking I'm going to try x-note first as it seems to be the most popular and I'm guessing it's that way for a reason.

Yeah CM team are working on it now from what I have read, I'm using X-Note V.8 with CivZ KatEngine 2.0 kernel

Slow Internet (3G/LTE) after 4.4.2 Update

Hello Guys
Well, let me get straight to the point. After my old rom (Revolution HD3) was draining my battery pretty fast, i decided to update to 4.4.2. Well, i downloaded the latest 4.4.2 for switzerland from sammobile.com. I flashed it and it somehow was all laggy and i had fc's the whole time. After some time i was able to use the phone anyway, but it was laggy. And the problem was that my 3G connection was EXTREMELY slow. I got connection time outs the whole time and wasnt able to download anything. Well, i thought it was the rom i flashed trough odin, so i downgraded to 4.2.2, my original rom, and updated trough KIES. The rom wasnt laggy anymore, but the 3g/4g was slow. I tried different Modems and Kernels. Nothing Helped. I then decided im going back to a custom rom but the flash failed. Then i tried another rom and it failed again. So i thought it may was cause i was on 4.4.2 and tried to flash a custom rom that was 4.2.2. I then tried to reflash my stock rom trough odin, and it FAILED. And that's how i bricked my phone. I can still enter Download Mode, but can't enter the recovery anymore. What do i do? I'd like to solve both problems.
Thanks guys
Btw: I've got an I9505
I assume you didn't wipe anything before you flashed stuff? Thats like rule number 1 to do.
You can try flashing a recovery true Odin.
Hej Guys
Um.. Just to let you guys know, it is possible to downgrad to 4.2.2 from 4.4.2. I just did it this morning and had sucess. But the problem with the really slow internet connction still is here, when im on a 4.4.2. And, it is the same with custom roms running 4.4.2. I tried different kernels and modems, nothing helped so far. As soon as i was back to 4.2.2 it had the usual connection speed. I called my provider and also called samsung itself. Obviously, they both told me to bring the phone back for garantuee. But well, as i know it's a software problem and not hardware, i wont do that. So can you guys help me? What should i do next? Actually im back on 4.2.2. Thanks
Edit: Oh, and ofc, i did everything like wiping/factory resetting, wipping preoload etc. It's not my first time flashing.
It's not possible to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2! End of..
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
Are you serious dude? Im running 4.2.2 right now. What is your point?`I didnt even ask about it. I asked about a solution to the problem that i get slow 3G/4G on my I9505 when running 4.4.2. If you want a proof Pic about it running 4.2.2, i can give you one. But i dont really get what your point is.
Hang on hang on hang on, it is common knowledge that you cannot downgrade from official samsung 4.4.2 to official samsung 4.2.2 because in odin you will get failure at aboot.bin because you cannot downgrade bootloader.
How ever what would be really good is instead of just trying to say it then jumping out saying what's your point, we'll my friend the point is, it would be advantageous to everyone in the entire samsung galaxy s4 i9505 community if you can tell everyone how you did it.
My perspective is your doing a bit of flaming.
Pictures really won't prove a whole lot as anyone can do some build.prop edits and show different rom name and version.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Well, if it sounded like flame to you, it wasnt. I didnt create this thread to flame others. But i wasnt kidding saying that i downgraded to 4.2.2. Here how i did it:
Was running 4.4.2 (I9505XXUFNB9)
Flashed TWRP recovery.
Flashed custom Rom 4.2.2, which FAILED!
Flashed Official 4.2.2 trough odin, which FAILED!
Flashed TWRP recovery again, since it was somehow damaged from the flash before
Flashed Wanamlite 4.4.2
Flashed Custom Rom 4.2.2
Flashed Official 4.2.2 with succes.
Im not sure what part of those flashes were essential, but i have no reason for liying to you. What would be the perks if i did?
But now again BTT, Did anyone else have that problem of slow interenet connection? Or is it just me? Maybe some ideas?
Regarding slow Internet maybe it's your carrier with issues.
Maybe the downgrade back to 4.2.2 has created issues in its self. Have you checked your baseband matches bootloader and build?
A problem we have is we can't see the version of the 4G modem (non-hols) so that might be also an issue.
When you flashed back did you do a factory reset?
In regards to downgrade do you still have the Knox bootloader?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Well, i called my operator and the girl on the phone said that some people already called with the same issue, but its not on their side. It's a problem with the update samsung released. After the downgrade i had my Knox Bootloader and everything worked like it always did.
Yesterday Sammobile released a new ''rom'' for my country. Downloaded it, flashed it and it works great now. I have a bit of a fast battery Drain, but the problem with the slow internet seems to be fixed.
Again: 4.2.2 worked perfectly after downgrade. It had no issue, No FC nothing at all. Maybe i was lucky? No idea, but im happy my 4.4.2 works now
Thanks anyway for your help guys
Edit: Yeah, my bootloader matched both baseband and build.

If you had done your homework, you would know that in almost all cases Samsung repairs it even with Knox set to 0x1. They even publicly stated it in the Netherlands that they will repair your phone even with custom roms.
And you don't know the law in Switserland. Nor do I. So you can't say that in Switserland his rights are voided by flashing.
If Samsung doesn't give you the warranty, then you still have your consumer rights in the European Union (not that Switerland is in it). No flashing, modding or other chances decleine you your rights if it's not related to a hardware failure. In the countries that you and I live in, it will never void your rights if the damage is not related to flashing or modding.
So well, i think that in switzerland they actually WONT repair it if you flash it, but i aint sure about that, since i never had to send it to repair. But anyway, it was only a software problem on their side. They released another version for switzerland and it seemed to have fixed the problem. I have a bit more of a battery drain, but i actually think im just too used to some other custom roms. Anyways, thanks for the help guys

[Q] need help understanding some things

OK so I'm coming from the galaxy note 1 which I had no problems with due to the unlocked bootloader I presume and. I've been trying to figure out things on my own but I'm having trouble finding reliable information on some things and some other stuff I just don't know how to research even 1/10th as fast as asking about here. Any help or links to info are greatly appreciated. So I grabbed sm-n900v and not sure what may have changed since rooting installing SS and flashing alliance rom but rest of current info is kit Kat 4.4.2, N900VVRUCNC4, kernel version 3.4.0, hardware version N900v.07. Now the phone is unlocked and I'm using it on AT&T, I've got it all working with only couple issues. First I can't get any roms except alliance rom to work which is apparently related to kernel, baseband, firmware, or god knows. Then I've read some threads discussing either unified firmware or a leaked firmware being ideal and some stuff about certain modems/bootloaders/radios/firmwares/recoveries being better between NC2 and NC4 and even combinations working best I've followed some guides to just installing other roms but they don't work for me and have resulted in soft bricking so now I just need an full answer all in one instead of trying to figure it out from so many different sources. What modem/radio/bootloader/recovery/firmware/kernel should I be using to try out some roms keeping in mind I'm with ATT. Also should I be looking at ATT roms I assumed not to but figured worth asking. Also any other recommendations would be great I'm really just wanting a slim, stable, fast experience thanks for any help again.

Some use Verizon roms on att and t Mobil for roms on NC4 you need to Odin NC2 try looking up some instructions it helps. Safe strap is what you can use for recovery have busy box it's needed for it to work. Modems is for your signal I wouldn't bother. Firmwares are for ppl wanting to go back to stock mostly ect. But I'm sure the step you skipped was getting NC2 on there. Be careful before you do anything make sure your 100 percent sure or you can't have a bad day.

You always have to root first before you are able to install a custom rom. That said, to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any custom roms available for the SM-T337A. Unfortunately, AT&T and Verizon lock the bootloader on their devices now. This means that you can't have a custom kernel or a custom recovery. Since Cyanogenmod and similar roms based off of it require a custom kernel, you can't have any cyanogen-type roms. That said, a stock based rom (anything capable of running on the stock kernel) should work fine, but as I've said, to the best of my knowledge nobody has made any roms like that for this device yet. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

That sucks. Guess I'll have to be satisfied with just rooting it and maybe a different stock rom, if any available.
I was just searching on here & I'm not sure what instructions are the ones I need for this tab. I saw where someone says they tried towelroot & 1 other but did not work, & other similar posts, then find several posts mentioning that they have rooted it, so I'm not sure what way DOES work to root it. (I also found on another site, which I don't know if Im allowed to post the external link, "Working Tutorial How To Update/Upgrade Samsung SM-T337A To Android 5.1 Lollipop!) Needless to say Im a little unsure of what method I need to root it. ANDROID VERSION: 4.4.2 BUILD: kot49h.t337aucu1ank2
Also Is there a alternative stock based rom (with tutorial) you might recommend ?

All you can do is try towelroot. If it comes back as failed, then oh well, it doesn't mess anything up. Towelroot will only work for kernel dates before July 2014 I believe. There are NO custom ROMs, no recovery, no alternatives for this tablet. No developer interest, no carrier support, so no android version beyond 4.4.2. We have been abandoned by AT&T with no way of getting any updates ever again because they locked us out. So we are stuck with a worthless pile of crap tablet that gets more laggy by the day. No more carrier variants of any device for me ever again. International only.
rootng that works

kingroot works perfectly on the T337A tab4

need some assistance with i337m and getting back to stock.

I have read a fair amount here, but I'm not getting entirely relevant info and am hoping for some help.
I THINK I have finally found the place for stock roms. sammobile.com???
Now a bit of background.
I bought this phone used a few days ago. When I had a look, it is already rooted, which I'm fine with.
It is running 4.4.2. I'd like to upgrade to 5.0.x. Gotta friend with the same model. That's what he recommends.
I can live with 4.4.2 if I have to, meaning if I can't upgrade.
Since this is new (to me) I can live with losing all user data. Only thing is my wifi password is long and random and a pain to type in, but that is about all I'll suffer.
I had removed some apps using debloater, mostly just to see, but have since restored them. Then tried to update, got the message, which essentially says "you've got a custom rom. No updates for you".
I know the phone is unlocked, but not sure if factory or by unlock code. Does it matter, and if so, how can I tell?
I know the previous owner had a fido sim, and I noticed some bell apps on here. If I've read correctly, that doesn't guarantee this was originally a bell phone. Is there any way I can tell? Right now I have no sim. I can shove in an old speakout sim that is deactivated.
So anyway

I've downloaded ODIN, but not a ROM yet, since I'm not positive who's I should use.
Also, I had gone thru the guide to enable AWS. That seems to work, as it would take the sim at the wind kiosk. I'd like to keep that, but if I have to redo it, that is fine.
I trust it is not a good idea to upgrade to a "stock" 5.0.x by just flashing roms?
Thx for any help.
ok, another question. I just registered at sammobile, but they don't seem to have roms for the S4??? Are they hidden somewhere? Where can I get stock roms, if not there? Thx
Nevermind. You have to type in the device name. It just isn't on the pulldown list.
Another question you might find stupid.
If I update to (for example) the Bell Roms, do I have to have a valid Bell sim in order to do an update?
Well maybe 2 stupid questions.
I still have to use triangle away for flashing back to 4.4.2 don't I? I read somewhere that they (meaning Samsung) expected the count to be > 0 at some point but I don't remember at what version, and I can't seem to find it again.
So what do you guys do? Flash it a couple of times to get the count right?
If the phone is sim unlocked, it should remain permanently unlocked regardless of whether you flash custom or stock ROMs.
The easiest way to get to stock LP would be to flash the stock LP rom via Odin from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I337M/
Before the first boot with the LP ROM, the phon should be factoru reset via stock recovery.
Doesn't really matter whether you flash Bell, Rogers, or Telus. The hardware used by all 3 carriers is the same. The only difference would be in the apps that are installed with each stock ROM.

I think I have reflashed properly. I'm downloading the update (probably to 5.0.1??) via phone now, but I noticed after I started that I have the warning triangle. So maybe the update will not install when it is done. I'll know in a couple of hours I guess.
So I should have run triangle away BEFORE the reflash? Or are you no longer supposed to run that? Or is there some android version after which you are no longer supposed to use it?
Thx
Well, phone seems to have updated to 5.0.1, which is what I wanted. With the update, the warning triangle is gone also.
So thanks again for your help. I guess I'll be on to other things here.

HELP REQUIRED to choose a ROM for Galaxy S4 i9505 android 4.3 version~~

Hi guys, Newbie to forum and rooting here! I own a Galaxy S4 i9505 android version 4.3 and want it to upgrade to a higher, better and stable version. I've been doing a lot of research and found that the latest 6.0.1 gives issues with wifi on s4! I always wanted to root my phone but never did but since pokemon go doesn't run on 4.3 I'm glad that I'm forced to root it ! So, which is the best ROM and android version that I should upgrade my phone to that'll not show any bugs or issues! I don't care if the android version's not latest..I own only one phone! Just want to run pokemon go and exploit some features that rooting will provide! Thanks for help~
There aren't any ROMs that are 100% bug free. Even Samsung ROMs have bugs.
Also, the matter of "which ROM is better" is subjective.

Hey thanks for the reply! I'm aware that no ROM maybe 100% bug free but maybe there are some which have insignificant bugs?? and also perhaps the older ROMs..say the ones with android 5.0.x maybe so because of more updates? In that regard, I would really like if you would recommend one such ROM to your knowledge! Thanks!

Me, ive come from many years of custom ROMs on my S2, and due to all the issues with CM13 which was the last ROM i ran on it, i retired the S2 the other day and got a cheap second hand S4, and i have to say after all the drama of custom CM13 on the S2, i am actually enjoying the stock 5.01 LP ROM on the S4. All ive done is run CF Auto Root and then run this debloat app on it Until i do enough research on what a good custom ROM to install, im just going to stick with the stock 5.0.1...
Stock 5.01 is available here at sammobile
It should be enough of an upgrade over 4.3, plus you should probably flash this at least once before going to a custom ROM anyways...for reasons i wont bore you with
You can try this first up as an alternate to sammobile.com (because they limit your speed):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
This backdoors a fast download from Sammobile...much faster
I just got it to finally work to download my ROM!
Or if you try the main sammobile.com website
If you choose to go this route, pick your country, and if you want an unbranded, no carrier bloat version, pick the one form your country with no carrier name after it in brackets, i.e. pick the one with just the 3 letter region code in brackets after it. Note: its about 1.4Gb to download, and unlike the old days sammobile will make it fricking painful to get without paying them...they throttle the download. Im on my 8th go trying to get my ROM, every time it fails you have to restart, so they soak up your data allowance the bastards, but theres nowhere else i know of to get my ROM
Or another alternate:
http://fw.updato.com/
Ok so I've decided to flash this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...om-untouched-google-play-edition-5-1-t3198177
But I'm getting confused between the meanings of rooting and flashing ROM. Do I need to "root" my phone (I would use Super SU) before flashing it? Because I'm following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDlV3plfnVA
and his recovery screen looks different than mine. Apparently, he's using clockworkMod CWM but how do I do that? So, if I root my phone first then will my recover screen look similar to his? It's confusing! Please help!
Like i said id flash a stock ROM first before going custom....GPE still counts as a custom ROM
Be sure to read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67514801&postcount=1380 and more than just the front page of any ROM, this one has a few issues, i assume fixed.....
As for recovery, you should forget about Phliz (it can have issues with newer ROM's) and use TWRP instead (i used to hate TWRP, but CWM based recoveries seemingly arent being updated to fix issues lately)
I did a quick post about installing it (and fixing a potential niggle) here earlier: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67769031&postcount=6
