Hi I'm having a problem with my phone right now. I have it rooted with team win recovery and super su installed. I downloaded the new 4.4.2 update but it wont work. It will only boot me into recovery and when ever i restart it will power off again into recovery. Is there anyway to stop this?
im in the same boat. well, was.
to stop the loop, simply go to TWRP and clear your cache.
then you're back at step 1.
now the question is, do we need to un-root, uninstall TWRP and go back to stock recovery, or both?
and how?

Wipe?
Or clear.
Just check a couple of them, it's fairly easy to find. It says "Clear cache/dalvik?" just wipe them out.
*OR* go to File Manager, go to /cache and remove the .zip file.

Try fastboot erase cache ,yes you need to be 100% stock, stock recovery and unrooted, so you need to flash the stock recovery with fastboot but at this point just wait for the sbf 4.4.2 rogers firmware to show up and flash with rsdlite. If you make any stupid panicky flashes without knowing what you are doing you'll hard brick your device .
It has happened so many times after a new update comes up

To update to cyanogen,
Should I: back up rom, wipe dalvik cache, wipe data cache
Can someone explain what each on means. Thanks!

First backup in recovery
then wipe data cache and factory reset if you want/having issues with your new rom
Edit: then of course install cyanogen
Help
If I already have made a backup, do I need to do the first stage
No, but I personally prefer flashing a ROM in Recovery Mode (Clockworkmod Recovery), rather than using ROM Manager.

Actually, I think the ROM Managers way of installing is still from the recovery, it just skips the menus.

Yea, I prefer the long way as well, because most of the time I have other stuff to flash
I had CM7 installed on my phone, and then i proceeded to update to the beta 2. I downloaded the file, then unpacked it on my phone sdcard then proceeded to reboot in recovery mode and cleared cache , dalvik, factory settings and then updated the zip file. then clear everything again and reboot. Get stuck on dual core logo.
I can still access recovery and mount usb to add files. can anyone tell me how to fix this?
did you make a backup before installing the beta?
It seems like you've never installed a ROM before, so I would advise you to read before you try again.
Try and restore it from the 1.8.3 SBF or restore from the CM7 pre-beta2.zip.
Don't unpack the zip file.
Oh and I feel obligated to ask, but did you install romracer's recovery?
I have Tenfar's recovery. Does it matter?
When you say restore, do you mean going in recovery mode and then apply the beta-update2.zip?
I also beleive my recovery got updated to Clockwork's when I had CM7 beta installed?
I have read another post on here that suggest I should RSD flash the 1.8.3 SDF and just start anew.
Should I do that? I was on 1.8.3 prior to installing CM7 beta
I understand I probably come across as a complete noob, but I did read before I did anything.
And now this happened and I just need help fixing it, you can just say. Yes flash back to 1.8.3 with RSD, I don't need a dot point instruction on how to do that.
Now my recovery is "ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.1.4" even tough i originally flashed Tenfar's
and my phone is unlocked.
I have tried many times to clear all caches and update the beta zip again and it does not work, I just get stuck on dual core logo again.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Redownload beta 2 again (I've had problems related to bum d/l's). Install romracers recovery. Wipe. Reinstall.
If that fails use fastboot -w to wipe and reinstall.

Legend, thanks a lot now I can go back to sleep.
I installed romancer's recovery (unlike tenfar's it took like 5 times longer to clear cache and install the rom) but it did work.
thanks for taking the time man.
I think that you forgot to wipe cache and Dalvik cache from within CWM.
For me that did the trick ...

No I had wiped dalvik and cache prior and after update.
Either beta 2 doesn't like tenfars recovery or it was an issue with the download . Since I installed romancers recovery before I tried the new download we will never know

Why use tenfar's recovery when you can use CWM real recovery now.
That might help a lot...
im having the same problem but i used romracers recovery in the first place. ive tried everything and i tried to restore my alien backup but the recovery cant find it... did prebeta1 change the directory? im lost.

you don't need to reboot
you need to flash it right after those formating
and the file needs to stay as a zip to be flashable so what did u mean by unziping it
also after you flash it won't hurt to wipe data/factory reset and also wipe cache

I'd like to wipe the Delvik cache... Is there any way to do this in ODIN? I DO NOT HAVE RECOVERY.
I've been doing some research and if I can wipe the cache, the boot load would have to rebuild. Killing the apk that is freezing my S4.
Can someone confirm this? Or did I just confused myself even more...
you've given us almost nothing.
are you i337 or i337m? what firmware build? why arent you able to access recovery? are you rooted? what apk did you install?

You might be able to use ADB to wipe it, but you will have to do some research to find if it is possible or what the commands would be. And, as always, there is a chance of making things worse. ODIN is a tool for flashing, it is not a recovery substitute. I've never read about anyone ever using ODIN to wipe memory without replacing it with something else (ROM, Kernel, etc...). Maybe someone knows more about it though. So, good luck with your searching and reading. If you decide to check out ADB, you can search for tutorials here at XDA and on Google.

No luck with ADB because it doesn't full boot. I have trouble with the MTP driver loading... and I don't know if that is the problem either.
At this point maybe flashing anything to clear the cache... LOL!
Impossible to flash anything on MF3. C'mon people, we know this.

When you say you don't have access to recovery....did you try to flash a custom recovery on the MF3 version and lose it that way?

Ok well the solution there is pretty simple then. Odin flash a recovery tar file that is compatible with your device. Then yank the battery after it completes and tries to reboot (unsuccessfully)...
Don't pull the battery until it tries to boot tho.
Hold the volume up, home, then power button to boot into recovery.
Not sure why you are dead set in wiping dalvik cache, to be honest. But that is how you could probably do it successfully.
I would just push an entire image back to the device and start from scratch, but that's just me.
Good luck

I have RAZR with locked boot loader. I am rooted and have safetrap installed. I wipe cache and dalvik and it fails when I try to wipe data. Then I install stock ROM deoxidized and it only boots to boot loader and I have to restore phone with rsd lite. Whats is the proper procedure and why doesn't data wipe?

Hello, yes, I wipe cache and dalvik, then i rebooted back into recovery, hit mount button, checked box to mount, installed rom and rebooted and it goes to a failed bootloader. If I didnt have RSD i guess i would be bricked. I just dont want to lose this phone.
Thanks.
Are you making a slot and flashing there, or trying to flash over the stock slot? You won't be able to flash over stock, and this might be why it's failing. I also noticed that Avi crossed out the Safe Strap instructions in his thread, so maybe this won't actually work for SS.
rom slot needed?

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash over the stock slot. If you're using SS on a locked bootloader, you can only restore over the stock slot. It's not about being temperamental, it's about having a locked BL.
