How unlocking works? - Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking

I have a locked nokia lumia 920( upgraded from 710), and I wanted to know the imei calculator is working?
Why can't we do it home?

Wrong forum.
What is hard to comprehend about the purpose of a Q&A forum, anyhow?

Yes, GoodDayToDie is right, he's always right , didn't you know rule #1 of the Windows Phone Development and Hacking subforum, no questions allowed, if you had checked the "Is this a question" box, you normally had received a message that it's a violation of the XDA-Developers forum rules to post questions in the Development section. Move your question to the Q&A section (use the report button on the first post and select thread/post moving or maintenance and request for the thread to be moved to the Q&A section) and it will be answered surely.

Just for information:
Nokia unlock codes are calculated with a secret algo that resides inside a smartcard named SX-5 from IMEI and a provider specific configuration key.
These codes aren't stored in phones but a SHA hash instead, which can't be altered since it's RSA signed.
Every time a not factory unlocked phone starts the user entered and stored unlock code is hashed and this hash is compared with the stored one.
So there is no algo in phone. And brute-forcing 20 digit codes (SHA hashing) costs you much more money for energy and calculation time than a brand new factory unlocked phone would cost you.

Update android NAND rom without losing data?

Hey,
Was wondering if it was possible to upgrade a NAND rom without loosing all my apps, contacts, images etc. Reason being that I have a very early build which has some missing features such as GPS and I really need them. I have been using this build for a while now an have added new contacts, installed apps and have a lot of data on it generally. Is there any way that I can update to a new build whilst keeping my data?
Thanks in advance

if u upgrade u're rom by ClockWorkMod all app and sms and . . . still alive and dont change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877777
in this topic a video show u how can u upgrade u're rom with ClockWorkMode.
It amazes me that there are people in these forums who are smart enough to to install android rom on there phone, but they still can't figure out where to post a question. There is a forum for questions and there is a forum android development, and yet they still pick the development forum for questions. Why is this concept so hard to understand. Haven't you noticed that there isn't any other questions being asked in this forum except yours?

Its because they know more people view the nand development forum than the Q&A forum so they have more chance of getting an answer to their question.
I noticed a while ago a mod from another xda forum posting a question in the nand dev forum for that very same reason.
Simple solution, don't answer people who start question threads in dev forums until they are moved to the proper place.
Regards.

The name is Titanium Backup

So you don't want people to answer your question in the nand dev forums until it is moved to Q&A forums. Then why didn't you just post in the Q & A forum in the first place. You saw another person posting in the nand dev forum, so now you feel like you should do the same. So now other people will see your question and then will post there own questions in the nand dev forum and the trend will continue. The last thing everyone wants is the nand dev forums flooded with questions. By the way, a quick search in the forums, you could have found an answer to your original question.

If you bothered to read my reply i was agreeing with the person i quoted "YOU" and was only stating the reason some people are posting questions in the Dev forum. Example,,,, the mod who had posted a question in the Nand Dev forum for that very reason.
I was also saying people should not answer questions put in the dev forums until it has been moved to the proper place. They will then have to wait until it has been moved which could be hours if the mods are not about or busy. Getting a quick reply in the dev forum only encourages others to do the same.
If you can find any question i have started in a Dev form you can have my HD2 for free.
Idiot.
I seem to have started a row. I appoligise for starting this thread where I did. I hope you two can still be friends! Thanks for the help will use the clockwork mod as soon as I can!

You can't use CWM unless the ROM is CMW friendly.
You need Titanium Backup - free in the market. (The paid version is WELL worth it though!)

When I click that link I get the following. Has the thread been deleted or am I not permitted access because of my post count? It says you cannot post with less than 10 posts, but it doesn't say you cannot view. Am I doing something wrong?
knickfan5745, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
Remember, your question has very likely been asked already, so please search before posting.

[Q] Wrong recovery file applied with ODIN -- AHHHHH!

Well now that was just the stupidest thing I have done in a while....I am sure you will agree.
I just used ODIN to roll back to what I thought was going to be GT1.0 US Retail WIFI but what I DID was apply the European .tar by accident.
My once P7510UEKF3 is now a GT-P7500XXKFF. It's a locked tab and CWR is now gone. ODIN seems to be connecting.
....any chance for recovery or did I just loose it???
Two things
1) check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089 thread to get the ODIN version of CWM and flash it
2) This does not belong in the Dev section
1) Thank you.
2) Understood (now). Thank you, I will ensure question go to their proper location. My bad.

CWR = restored
Root = restored
Model & Build = restored
3.1 OTA ROM = restored
It was bootlooping after that so I just clear the cache/Dalvik and wipe.
Success! Thanks for that...after searching and weaving through way too many threads it ended up being a simple process I just wan't started correctly (aka the ODIN friendly CWR file.
Whew!!!

I would strongly disagree, I do think this belongs in the Dev section; I sure as hell wouldn't post this in the general section, I would want the advice or input of other people who are actually hacking their tabs...i.e., developers. Really tired of development or hacking-related (appropriate) questions being moved to the "general question" section. That section is for just that - general or basic questions, like how do I adjust this setting or that setting, or how do you think this screen compares with that other model's screen, etc, etc. I can say that once one gets past the people who have to get the "this doesn't belong in this section" comments out of their system, there is always a MUCH greater chance of having the best parties see and offer advice on the given problem in this area than in the general section.

It actually belongs in the q&a section hence the q in the title. The link I gave in that post does exactly what your asking. There is instructions to do most things you want on the tablet, but the point is to ask questions in there so the OP can grow as the community grows. That link is also a sticky in the dev thread.

I am aware what the guide says, and apparently you've missed the point - I am quite simply stating that I disagree with the "rules" as they currently stand, which I have the right to do, and in my opinion I believe I have a logical point. I mean honestly answer this - if I have a question for specifically for advanced users (aka i.e., developers), where would I have a better chance of having it seen by such users: in the general section (which is frequented by more novice users) or in the developer section?

With all due respect, if you don't like the rules this is not the place to complain about them.
Take it up with a forum administrator.

First of all, this post should not even be in development let alone original android development. didn't you notice there are only three posts here? Try general for asking question.
As far as the answer, you already know, once you ota past mje you're screwed.

@neto1012 - this is most certainly not something that should be posted in the development sections of any devices threads, especially not original dev section. If you didn't "create it" it doesn't belong in development. If you didn't "create it from scratch" it doesn't belong in original development.
Please read the rules linked in my signature & follow them. This is your warning to post in correct sections - next time we'll be forced to take more action. Moved the thread to Q&A where it belongs.
@platinumyahoo - you're absolutely correct about the thread but questions don't go in general, they go in Q&A. Also, next time don't post on silly threads like this - just click report. Thanks!

Hello!
While I understand you want to say hi to the community, this, however, is the wrong place to do so. This is a device specific section, which means the discussions should be device related. We've got a "Welcome to XDA" thread especially for this purpose located HERE, so feel free to post there
