What's a good rom? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the tmobile g2. I'm rooted and all I'm looking for is a stock rom with a few modifications that is fast and stable. I want to be able to tether without tmobile knowing it.
Any suggestions?

This page should have all your answers. If you're looking to use sense ROMs, I recommend changing to the DZ hboot as it is necessary to run newer Sense ROMs (3+ i think).

Assuming you know adb well...
Yes, you have to downgrade it first then root it. I suggest you using these guides here at cyanogen for downgrade and root
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Rooting
Reason: The web page it self is a heck shorter than the one at XDA.
Just please click the thing it read it, it's short.
Once you have done these things you should have rooted Froyo with CWM Recovery 3. While it's an adequate version I suggest you update it first (Play Market to the rescue) then do an Nandroid backup, just in case.
One thing you need to know: When you're in CWM Recovery, you need to press the trackpad to select options.
Now you have to get a Desire Z Hboot. I recommend this guide
http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html
Once you have the Desire Z Hboot, you can use Sense ROMs. Stable ROMs would be any GB ROMs (the Desire Z/ G2 is pretty well-supported here), like this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401560
Hope this helps.
Thank u very muuch. Ill be doing this in an hour. And are there any other sense roms??

There is a whole development section for you to look through here.
For someone who has 1500 posts you really want your hand held.

We don't know the status of the bootloader yet. If it is locked then it won't. It should work if the bootloader is unlocked.

There is not much need to install another ROM really. I mean, I too love custom ROMs but to he honest, the ROM that comes in with the G2 is really good, lighting fast, smooth and customizable.
The only thing you'll need to do will be to remove any bloatware Verizon has pre-installed.
On the T-Mobile version there's only one custom ROM (basically a clean version of the stock)
There has been not much dev activity yet, but I hope to see improvements soon, specially once the N5 comes out. So they say.
Cheers!
I have the AT&T G2, but I highly recommend TWRP recovery. I had always used CWM prior to this device, too, but I'm not sure if you have to add the Loki exploit to bypass the bootloader with CWM. TWRP has the exploit built in as best I can tell.

[REQUEST] Eclipse ROM Port

Got my Galaxy Gear Watch today and couldn't get it working on my AOSP ROM so I moved over to a TW ROM. However, I hate the TW look. It's too big and clunky so I went looking for some TW ROMs and found this one:
http://www.elementalxdesigns.com/ec...-0-(08-27-13)-Touchwiz-stability-AOSP-Styling!!
I would love to see this ROM ported to the Sprint S4!
What do you guys think?
Of course it would just be a lot easier to just get Galaxy Gear working with AOSP, but TW generally is more stable with better battery life.

If I'm not mistaken, can't you flash a Verizon rom with a Sprint kernel and it'll work?

As long as it's TW ROM. I've never tried AOSP.
BTW the way to install is to wipe data and caches the install ROM. Then wipe data once again then absprint kernel.

Clean installed, wiped data, then flashed the Sprint kernel, and got stuck in a boot loop. Tried a couple kernels too. Might try again some time today.

Did you ever get this working??? I've been trying to figure this out also:fingers-crossed:
I'll take a look at this. No promises but it sounds too good to pass up myself. If I make progress I'll post it here.
Not much to say at this point. Its bootable with a little updater.script editing and flashing the ktkernel with aroma and instantly rebooting recovery and flashing an older 4.3 ktkernel. No data as of yet. I guess if I can get a stable data through either network or WiFi I'll make a download for ya. Or just some good links and a tut.
GR8 job bro. Thanx alot

None.. sorry. Very busy atm and have no time..

No Pure Google?

Sorry for the silly question but I've been curious. Any particular reason that we haven't seen any AOSP/AOKP ROMs for our device yet? Is it lack of development or is there something a bit more technical that is preventing that from happening? I usually love to tinker and they offer quite a bit more options. Again, just curious....

cant run custom kernel on locked bootloader (retail version)
Yeah but didn't the Bionic also have a locked bootloader? We were still able to run AOKP through safe strap. Hopefully we can run AOKP the same way on the Note 3. Unless I'm wrong about the Bionic.

This is a complete guess but I'd say it wasn't a full aosp rom. Probably just a rom made to look and work like aokp on the regular kernel

I just want to make sure I understand this. There is currently a thread on T-Mobile Developer forum for CM10.2. While it's not working well now, once it's debugged it should work fine on our DEs, with the stock TM CM10.2 kernel?
