No, not dangerous. No such thing as "overcharge" if the hardware is operating correctly.

Hi everyone.
I have a 16 GB Google Nexus 7 with Android 4.3. (Last year’s model, not the newest one.)
The Nexus 7 is hooked up to my desktop computer via a USB cable,
'
I’ve make some new folder using ES File Explorer.and arranged my pdf files accordingly. But when i connect nexus 7 to pc it dosen't show any new changes made by es file explorer(despite when i am using the latest version)...
To view all my files on pc in the same manner ......i have to restart my tablet and again connect it to pc
I was wondering why this is happening .
Is this problem in my Tablet only or every nexus user is facing it...???
my tablet isn't rooted
and i am running Windows 7 ultimate on PC
.
Thank you!

Unfortunately that seems to be the way the MTP software behaves. Mine does that as well. Any new changes written by the tablet won't show up on the PC.
It is possible that some kind of trick (such as unplugging the tablet from the PC, toggling between PTP and MTP mode, and then plugging back in to the PC) could cause an update to occur, but I haven't experimented with this.
If you find a way to get around this without rebooting, post a reply.
problem with google voice typing
Recently everything was working fine till i experience some issues with Google voice typing
In Offline speech recognition (manage Downloaded languages ) INSTALLED TAB

I have a quick question to everyone who has the TF300T and Linux. Have you been able to plug in the tablet directly in Linux (Ubuntu)and open the filesystem to transfer files? it seems that in windows I need to have that Asus Sync program, but i would rather not use a program. I would imagine it would be a plug and play situation.
I would appreciate to read how to go around that.
Thank you in advance.

I have windows and it is plug and play for me. I never downloaded the ASUS Sync program. I just plugged it in and it recognized the internal sdcard with no problems at all.
I'm on windows and i've never needed to use the asus sync program. I just connect my tablet to the computer and it pops up as a usb mass storage device.
Interesting. I am at work now and we are using Vista. I have it plugged in and on the device it says "Connected as a media device" and then nothing comes up. Also i have that Asus Sync icon in the notification area
I use Windows 7 Enterprise at home and it works for me
I don't have a issue with this at home.
Once I plug it in, a USB menu opens and verifies that it found a new device.
The issue you may be having is with in Vista itself.
I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise, and I can view all the files on my Asus, I don't even have Root yet. That whole .26 thing!
I just fired up a Ubuntu system at work to try to get around the issues with ADB on a Windows 7 64 bit system, so I can try to downgrade it to .17, root, load root keeper, then try the OTA update to .26. Have not quite got there yet though.
So far this has all been a complete pain on Windows, the ADB software comes to a screeching halt do to a Java issue, that no one can see to correct on my O.S.
Would be nice if some one just put out a 1 click Root app like I had on my DrodX!

i think i could depend on the drivers.
but dont expect an USB drive to appear as an HD or removable device, as it is MTP, you have to access the files via the DEVICE ICON that appears on the computer folder.
i dont know if its the same on vista. but as win 7 is Vista + it shouldn't be too different.

Ubuntu user here.
Yes I was/am able to get it connected and able to get files on it but not without some extra work.
I mostly followed the following site and changed some of the names he gave his phone into TF300.
(being a new user I am not able to post url links and am not able to post in de development site yet...damn)
Do a google search on: omg ubuntu android usb drive
and the first hit is the site.
After having done that, all it takes to have it seen as a drive is enter <android-connect> into a terminal. (and <android-disconnect> to shut off cleanly).
It's only seeing the sdcard, not / (hoped for an easy root access ).
hi all. i updated my computer today with the MS usual monthly updates but now when i plug my nexus4 into the usb socket, my computer doesn't show it in the main window where it usually does (like where it shows 'C' drive) it shows as being connected as a MTB media device via usb by the system clock but that's it. i cant open the device, copy apps into the phone or open anything to do with the phone. debugging is still enabled, according to the phone and it shows up as Google Nexus ADB Interface under device manager in windows7 x64
anyone else had this happen? anyone know how to cure the problem please?
many TIA

it was a driver issue but i had to uninstall and reinstall them. did try the update but no good. strange that it should just do that today, after the windows update. coincidence? i can only assume so.
anyway, tnx again

I can't believe I did it, must of accidentally deleted photo album. Stayed up for hours last night and all of this morning trying to find a way to recover the album. I have a bunch of my daughter's pics in that album and I really need them back.
I have a Nexus 4 with 4.4.2 loaded on it and the phone is not rooted. I have been trying to find a way to root the phone without wiping the data so I can try to use diskdigger to recover what I can. I don't know if there is a way with this version, but if there is and you know, please post. If you can show me a way and it is successful you will have some paypal money coming your way. Thanks in advance!

My first response would be to use disk digger like you said, but as much as rooting is a wonderful thing, I don't think it is needed in this case.
Disk digger is actually derived from a desktop app of the same name, that does the same thing with desktop and laptop hard drives.
Web page here
http://diskdigger.org/
If you connect your phone to your computer as external storage then you should be able to run the program on the computer but targeted at your phone, hence recovering your lost files.
Note: if this works then LOTS of files will be found, (including ones you never knew were even on your phone) so be prepared to search through them all.
I really hope this helps, I know what it is like to loose precious files, safe to say you should backup everything valuable from hereon
Let me know what happens either way and I will try and help if it does not work

yeah, just tried the pc software for diskdigger, phone doesn't show in list. Has a advanced tab, but only lets you choose .vhd files it looks like. If only you could get the phone into a vhd.
OK, so the first question is if the phone is mounted correctly, does it show in 'my computer' and when double clicked on can you see files?
Next question is if you are using the .exe correctly, take a look at this tutorial: http://diskdigger.org/node/1025
I'm sorry if this sounds condescending, but I don't know your experience with computers

LOL...no problem. Been a systems admin for about 10 years. Anywho, yeah, this is the nexus 4 so it only has internal memory, no sd card. I can see the phone in my computer, but there is no drive letter assigned, apparently that changed in 4.3 up through 4.4.2, which I am on. So what that means is no mass storage option where drive letter gets assigned, so routine recovery software can't read it as an attached drive.

Hmmm, you should still be able to mount as external storage, I have done so before on that android version.
First thing then is if USB debugging is enabled, this will be in your settings under developer options and should not require root.
Then it is a question of whether your computers drivers are correct, android has a tendency of not liking to do drivers correctly, I used PDAnet to install the correct USB drivers (note these are different to the ADB drivers which you don't need)
Get back to me with the results of those 2 points

Yeah, I had developer options enabled and USB Debugging mode on, maybe it could be a driver issue. I tried PDAnet and that didn't seem to update the drivers for the phone. The device shows okay in device manager, no exclamation point, shows as Nexus 4 as well and the driver seems to be a Microsoft driver. Are you sure you had the same android version? Everywhere I look any version after 4.2.2 cannot be used as a mass storage device because of the MTP-PTP change in 4.3 and 4.4.

I am on 4.4.3 now, and have the phone connected fine right now, have you tried switching between MTP and PTP?
Note: I am on MTP and it is working.
I am sure there is a problem with something to do with connecting your nexus to the computer, as mine is doing so right now. If we can resolve that issue and access the internal storage then you should be able to then recover the files with disk digger.
My best guess would be a driver issue as android has never really played well when trying to set up drivers. But like you said the computer is recognising it correctly. I think perhaps testing the drivers connection my be the next step, use ADB with the command 'adb devices' (without quotes) to see the devices connected to the adb server. If nothing comes up then we may be able to start troubleshooting :good:
Perhaps ADB is the difference, i have it installed and sorted, do you?
If you have never used ADB before, here is a good place to get started and here is another mention of the drivers, perhaps another attempt may be worth a try, with a clean intall
Safe to say in my drivers list it is connected under android device > android composite ADB interface.
Actually yes, thinking about what i have just written i am confident it is ADB and drivers, you should not be connected with Microsoft drivers, they are the automatically installed ones and never work. Follow the guides above (and perhaps some googling) to get the proper drivers and ADB set up, once you think you have test it with the 'adb devises' command, once you get it returning a serial number for your phone then take a look in 'My Computer' again and see if the storage is visible.
nexus 4 only support MTP, not USB Mass Storage, so can't be mounted with a drive letter and can't be used with undelete software . If you know any working solution without root - please tell us, but test first yourself before writing please
P.S. you are on 4.4.3 ?

My most sincere apologies, i was mistaking the mounted MTP device for the mounted drive, i now see what you mean.
In this case rooting is your only option, you need to run the file recovery natively.
I had hoped that this would not be necessary as unfortunately the rooting process will perform a lot of write operations so you must be prepared for some of your images to become corrupted or incomplete, (hence why i wanted to attempt other options) this is just the risk that you will have to face. How many will be damaged is difficult to say.
So use one of the many tool-kits or root manually, install the disk digger APK and you are good to go.
to root you will need to unlock phone bootloader and that will wipe all your device ...
Hello!
I have a Nexus 4 (currently running the latest CM12 nightly) and I have been struggling with this issue for a long time. I needed to transfer some photos on my PC and when I connected my phone I found out that the PC doesn't recognize it at all - it doesn't appear in the Device manager and I don't even have Other devices and/or Android devices as categories in there too. This was about a few months ago when my PC was running Windows 8.1. Before this issue occured I had no problems connecting my phone to the same PC, running the same OS and even in the same port. And also I was running CM nightly builds back at that time too. I started using AirDroid, but it's a pain the butt to transfer masses of files such as photos from there, because it takes a huge amount of time. So basically I have tried the following with no result:
Turned on USB debugging
Tried all of the PC ports and even a USB hub
Tried a different USB cable
Installed Android SDK
Deleted every single USB driver and reinstalled it seperately
Now I am running Windows 10 64x on my PC and it might come as a surprise, but the phone still is not being recognized at all. Yesterday I tried to connect it to a friend's PC and it was actually recognized and I could access i, but I need it to work on my own PC. I will be truly grateful if you could help me resolve this issue and I apologize if there has ever been such a thread in here, but I just made my account Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

So, with Win 8.1, at one point, Microsoft via their Win updates pushed out an Acer ADB Device Driver which was complete sheet, and you had to roll it back to get it to work. I only vaguely recall the details, but sounds like you uninstalled them. Here is a thread on the issue: http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-...usb-issue-since-last-windows-8-1-updates.html
You might try downloading Wug's NRT, and going through the driver clean up and install steps and see if that fixes it. You may have some USB device which needs to be removed or failed. The Toolkit will walk you through the process. Also, remember on W10, you do not get an obvious pop-up (to the point I have questioned whether my device was detected), but if you click the Messages bubble in the bottom right of the screen and expand it, if it detects, it will tell you a device was detected.
I'm having an issue with file transfer where my computer can't 'see' the phone when an AOSP ROM is installed.
File transfer is fine when mounting in recovery, also when I have OOS installed, so it isn't a hardware problem.
I've gone through the forum searching for a solution, and I have:
Changed the default USB configuration (under Developer options) to MTP
Uninstalled the phone from Device Manager on my computer
Tried installing OnePlus drivers to my computer
Tried installing Qualcomm drivers to my computer
Can anyone suggest a solution? I'm desperate to get this sorted as I can't tolerate OOS any longer, I just want a cleanish build of Android with no OnePlus rubbish in it!
I join your quest man... Im looking for the solution for this problem since i have installed my first AOSP rom on OP5... Never find the solution, i'm curious for this too... Now im on PureFusion and MTP of course isnt working... so i use recovery for file transfer (which is annoying) or the WiFi server (which is slow and isnt "operations" friendly)
In the same time cant understand why my nexus 6p with PureNexus is fully working in MTP but the oneplus 5 nope

I know it's windows fault because when it have too many drivers to manage for the same thing it goes crazy.. but even removing every single driver (ADB and Android related) it doesn't work.. I'm looking in a solution on the Linux build called "forget windows use Linux" since I can't completely remove windows 10
I had same issue in Linux
Typically, issue is not the ROM
1) check the phone get set to "file transfer" when connected, you generally have option to chose
2) plugging to a usb in chain to other switches it was not work, connected directly to a usb MB port, worked.
