Has anyone gotten the LS980ZVA update yet? It was scheduled for yesterday and I haven't gotten anything yet. It includes Sprint Spark too which I am very excited for. I'm a little confused why I haven't gotten the update yet though.. Let me know if you guys get it.

Not in getting 50 Mbps like speeds if you don't have B41 LTE accepted. People need to understand that what the Spark update gives you is the ability to get faster speeds on your handset. The other piece of the puzzle is that the cell towers in your network need to be upgraded to support the faster speeds. So far only 11 markets are accepted as Spark ready which are listed below. If you do not live in any of these market, then the chance of you getting fast speeds at the moment is not high although some towers could be upgraded in your area. If you lived in a non-Wimax market your chance of getting B41 LTE is ZERO since Sprint is only upgrading Clearwire Wimax towers to LTE so far.
Spark is now available in the following 11 markets:
Austin, Texas
Chicago
Dallas
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Fort Worth, Texas
Houston
Los Angeles
Miami
New York
San Antonio, Texas
Tampa, Fla.

Clear is adding towers to new areas either as test markets or to keep licenses as some have said. Look at clear's coverage maps, chances are most small towns around you have at least one clear tower. In Oklahoma 4g coverage began popping up at the beginning of the year.
What's pretty interesting is Billings, Montana has 4g coverage on clear's map while native sprint coverage of any kind can't be found for hundreds of miles (it's roaming 1x area on sprints map).

Look at clear.com coverage maps. 4g coverage in Lake Charles, Fort Polk, Lafayette, New Orleans, Slidell, Baton Rouge, Monroe, Ruston, Hammond, Shreveport and Baker. Of course they are single towers in most places.

Just read this thread and quickly turned on my 4G radio... and denied. Le sigh. So still no 4G in Metairie/New Orleans metro area. Had my hopes up for a moment.
I still don't get how T-mobile and Verizon can have their LTE networks here and many other cities, but WiMax is just a myth in many major cities this far after initial roll out. If it wasn't for the cheaper plan rates, I probably would've jumped ship a while ago.
Clear's map isn't quite accurate either. I get no 4g signal whatsoever in New Orleans outside on the street within the coverage area.
Also: Clear, Houma? WTF?

You have to be closer to the tower than the maps show. Our devices suck compared to the coverage the clear devices have.

Clear.com would have be believe that Houma was built entirely out of 4G.
Bastards.
Maybe once this semester is over I'll go wander around New Orleans and try and map out the 4G areas.
I haven't tested in houma in forever it might be up that's where my sprint store is
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Check the Sensorly app. It has some of the 4g mapped out.
NICE!
Clear.com said that my area (Grand Junction, CO) had 4G, but I've never been able to connect. I did the 4G signal tweak, and now it works great! I figured it would be years before GJ got 4G considering we just got 3g a few years ago. This is a pleasant surprise!
There's an app on the market called got clear it uses ur location and tells u if u got 4g. Look it up its a great app

In bergen co. It sucks everywhere since dec. 152kbps. Monday i was able to get 542kbps at my house. They said the towers in my area will be fixed by the 29th of this month. Lets see

I had some problems yesterday for the first time - it was about an hour where I couldnt get a signal and kept roaming (also force roaming with roam control app) but then back to normal here in Somerset /New Brunswick.
Yeah im also forcing roam here haha
Terrible speeds in Atlantic City but that has been the case for a while.
Is 4g ever gonna come to south Jersey?? Not the crappy 4g that hits the outskirts of Jersey from Philly, I mean true 4g in Jersey?? Been over a year and is truly a disgrace that Jersey has been passed over!! Bull#%&#!

Well as much as i know tmobile didnt have much say in it, att gave tmo the spectrum that it was barely using so my guess would b its the lower population areas, but i do see major city upgrades too
Sent from my SG2 using XDA App
More spectrum doesn't mean better coverage. AT&T only gave T-Mobile spectrum in places that AT&T doesn't need it, and T-Mobile has some, but not enough.
That's why only 2-3 markets got 20MHz of spectrum, and those were AT&T LTE markets that have 700 up and running.

It says LTE is still coming but the termination of the agreement with Lightsquared how will tis affect LTE? I just curious and figured i'd get better answers from a comunity full of smart people .
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
It means LTE will not be in lightsquared's 1600mhz band, and instead will be in Sprint's 1900 and 800(former iden) bands which they would have been using anyway. So it means Sprint may be looking for additional spectrum to increase capacity down the line.
There was already a thread about this, must have died. Anyway their Lightsquared deal was to allow them faster deployment of LTE iirc. And also different spectrum.

I think being a sprint customer, by now we all should be use to slow/partial roll outs of any kind that sprint has their hands on. But I highly doubt they would drop a contract or whatever without having some sort of plan. That would just be horrible business to kill something like that and just stand there and go "now what."

No. Lightsquared's LTE was to be an addition to Sprint's LTE; same with Clearwire's LTE.
Materially, however, we will have less 4G LTE coverage/spectrum due to the loss of this agreement, and Sprint lost a lucrative revenue source (billions of dollars).
sprint have lost one, but gained an new one.

Yes. I've tested multiple times today. I've also tested it in various parts of the city the last few days. It's always above 10mbps. Most of the time it's above 15.
Edit: More results after mine that's even faster. Nice work T-mobile.
