[HARDBRICK]Moto X no sign of life - Moto X General

I did the process to downgrade to 4.2.2 erasing lines gbt.bin and motoboot.img (after flash 4.4.2 Germany and do IMEI 0).
After that, I received the update OTA and accepted. In that it was installing the update when the screen went out and never come back.
I tried to access the fastboot several times and nothing, also let on wall charger for hours and nothing.
Is there anything I can do?

"hardbrick" isn't a word, I'm not sure why people think it is.
You may have, in fact, hard bricked your phone - two words. Hard is a modifier on bricked.
Anyway, one thing you can try is to hold the power button down for 30 seconds to make sure it's off, then boot it into fastboot, and connect it to the computer to see if fastboot itself will recognize your phone, even though nothing is appearing on your screen.

definitely "brickedhard." the only way that people have brickedhard their phone is by erase the gpt.bin in the xml file then accepting an ota that i have seen.

You can't accept an OTA after downgrading from 4.4.2 unless the OTA has the same bootloader.
In other terms, you can only downgrade to the latest firwmware for your device.

Need a $100 off coupon?

The phone is dead, as soon as you removed those two lines from the xml and flashed it you sealed its fate.

I don't understand how people are bricking their phones... I thought the only line you were supposed to remove was this one : <step operation="getvar" var="max-download-size" />
why are people deleting lines in gpt.bin and motoboot.img?

They do it because the phone won't downgrade firmware to whatever version they want to run otherwise. However doing it is a death sentence for the phone in the future if they take another update.
Firmware for all phone versions isn't available for download so some people have tried to use something "close" but it can be a real mistake. If your phones original firmware isn't available for download don't mess with the phone. Also the firmware can only be from one rev back it seems. So if you try out 4.4.2 and then want to flash back to your original firmware it can only be done if you can get a proper 4.4 file.

That's exactly the same thing happened to me a time ago.
Did the same steps, and my phone was hard bricked. Read my history here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548867
You have no way back to revive your phone, so, get the $100 off coupon, you need a replacement.

[STOCK ROM]Use for going back to stock before flashing a custom ROM with minimum risk

\\\\\\\\\\\\warning///////////
It seems that phones batch 1010 and newer dont like this method of going back to stock. If you're caught in a boot loop try flashing the official froyo for Captivate. One source can be found here
\\\\\\\\\\\\warning///////////
Disclaimer: Anything you do with the content found in this thread and the content that this thread links to, is your own choice and you are fully responsible for what happens to your phone.
This method is for ATT Captivate ONLY!
We all know that there is a very often used method of going back to stock found here. The problem is that the ODIN OneClickDownloader contains both boot loaders and param.lfs.
These files, if not flashed correctly or if the connection between phone and PC drops while flashing them, can brick your phone for good. The reason why would this happen is because of unreliable USB drivers.
The purpose of this thread is to give flash addicts/custom ROMs users a more secure way to go back to stock - JF6 - without risking bricking their devices.
Do not use this if you want to send your phone back to ATT or Samsung for warranty!
Use this if you want to go back to stock before flashing a custom ROM.
Use this without worries if you changed your boot screen image or if you flashed the secondary boot loader which allows you to enter download/recovery with key combos.
This package contains NO BOOTLOADERS and NO PARAM.LFS!
Download the package from here
Download Samsung Kies and install it. It will install the latest Samsung drivers.
How to:
Remove sdcard and SIM card from the phone
Extract JF6_secure.zip somewhere.
Boot in Download Mode (see below)
Run Odin3 v1.3.exe
Click on the button PDA
Choose JF6_secure.tar.md5
Click start.
Wait and do not unplug cable until it is finished
How to boot in download mode:
There are 3 methods:
Method 1: (ADB) - from recovery or normally booted with usb debugging on)
Open a cmd prompt/console/shell
adb shell
adb reboot download
Method 2: (KEY COMBO)
Remove the battery, sim card, sdcard if you have one
Insert the battery
Hold both Volume buttons
Plug in the USB cable and continue holding both Volume buttons
Method 3: (JIG)

If moderators believe this does not belong in development, I have nothing against to moving it to General. However, I think the community would appreciate if it would remain here.
Works fine
I used this to flash the latest Continuum 3.5 and everything worked fine. Thanks!
you may want to include the info "FOR ATT i897" phones.
as, well... check my sig!~ i got the rogers i896 covered NO BOOTLOADERS! @@ YAY

Thanks for this and I appreciate all your work.

Success !!
Just used this to go back to stock prior to flashing another ROM. Worked with no problems and only took about 5 minutes. Will use this from now on to avoid the possible brick.
Again, really appreciate you providing this for us.
Still not sure why one would use this over the DG Odin? Maybe someone can clarify?
Here is my scenario. I'm currently on Cognition 3.04 which I flashed from stock. It was my first ROM so I didn't have to go back or do anything with Odin. Now, if I want to flash a new ROM, I plan on using Odin, jut not sure which one???

on top of the read phail, i would add that you dont need to flash stock between roms, you only need to do it after a failed flash or a "no wipe" rom that depends on original files, **which they dont do anymore**. All the good full roms do a wipe before flashing. so there is no point going to stock! hope that clearifies!

I did read it, just thought there was something I was missing.
I thought there was more to it than people having bad usb ports. You're saying if one does have a bad usb port and flashing gets interrupted, their phone would be bricked with the DG Odin, but with this Odin it would somehow be ok?

If you own a computer you definitelly heard about BIOS and you heard that if the BIOS gets screwed (CMOS chip burned or bad BIOS update) you can pretty much throw the motherboard.
Well, imagine that your phone has 3 BIOSs
primary bootloader - boot.bin
secondary bootloader - sbl.bin
hidden partition for system images - param.lfs
and that they are dependent on each other and if one of them gets screwed you wont be able to get to recovery and download mode.
The one click downloader contains all these 3. My package does not.
Get the point?

You could use the return to stock tool in the development section and just take the OTA. Then you can just reflash TWRP.
Thanks for the quick response, but I have done that a couple of times and i have received the OTA, but the install always fails. I am using the RTS program that has the file that starts out with CLARK_RETUS_5.1.1_LPH23.116-18.......... Is there another that i should be using? BTW, I am on the European 1572 variant if that matters. Thanks again for the reply!
I've got the same problem, I'm on the 1572 instead of the 1575 and not sure on what to do with the return to stock tool
I just went through this yesterday. I tried the twrp but got no WiFi even with flashing the modem. I tried return to stick and failed the first time. I tried return to stick the second time but flashed the modem file by itself again and then the MM upgrade worked. That is the only thing I did differently.

dont use the return to stock tool for the xt1575 on the xt1572, you need to get the xt1572 firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/pure-firmware-tuff-wip-t3224833 get it, and unzip it, then get this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzsA17IjC5k2Y203VklsVDhseDQ/view?usp=sharing and put it in the same directory, make sure you have fastboot installed system wide, otherwise put the files in the same directory as the images, boot the phone into fastboot mode (power + vol down), plug into computer, and run the flash-all batch script, once done, the phone should reboot into stock 5.1.1

I can only tell you the only thing I did differently after returning to stock was to flash the non-hlos.bin file in fastboot a second time. I believe that is the correct file name. I am not at home to verify. That is all it took for me. I would try again. I have seen others that have repeated steps that did not work the first time to have it work the next time.
Keep in mind I am on US 1575 version but I don't see why it wouldn't work for you as long as you have the proper files. I would initially get to 15 or 20% and it would just fail with no error code.

You are a life saver! This is the only method that worked for me after struggling for a couple of days trying to overcome errors wen I tried to flash stock and re-lock the bootloader. :good::good::good: Will this allow the OTA update and receive Motorola updates?
relock bl returns te warranty?
no. there is no reason to ever relock this phone.
So,if you want to receive Motorola OTA Updates, you only need to unroot and return to stock recovery?

You have to use motorola's website to get the unlock code. They know you unlocked, warranty still void.
I can't thank you enough for this thread!!! I've run through several of these and yours has been the only one to include the most recent security patch!!! You are a STAR!
Thank you for making this easy!

Update** Since using this to un soft brick my device, My bootloader seems to be in a weird place, It says "Device unlocked Status code 3". I followed directions from Motorollas site to relock boot loader nothing in ADB or Fastboot flashes. I tried re unlocking it fails. im not sure what happened. any suggestions would be great though! thanks.

Edit : Now...it seems...my Bluetooth wont turn on....I've tried resetting network settings, clearing data under BT sharing in App Manager settings, and doing a full factory reset. The firmware and procedure in the OP are outdated, doing any flashing via a batch file is highly frowned upon as you cannot see if any piece fails and judging from the date of the OP the firmware is out of date.
Aside from that, if just the BT isn't working, you likely need to reflash the BT firmware... it should be included in the firmware you downloaded, go to that directory and execute "fastboot flash bluetooth BTFM.bin" to reflash the BT firmware partition. I am not sure what fastboot is included in this firmware archive, so it that fails try it as "mfastboot fastboot bluetooth BTFM.bin".
If BTFM.bin does not exist in this firmware archive, try over from scratch, look in my signature for a more up to date method of restoring stock and (optionally) relocking the bootloader.

hard bricked, no fastboot

Need Help!,
Updated my xt1643 indian g4 plus to the June Security Patch (NPJS25.93.14-8) build.
Post that I unlocked the bootloader and installed AOSPX rom after which I wanted to go stock nougat.
I flashed the marshmallow rom and took the ota to nougat and now my screen is all black, not even being able to boot the device to fastboot.
By exploring the forums I got to know that I've hard bricked my device but this thing never happened before the june update.
I'm not even able to use the blank files method to revive my device:crying::crying:

You must Press Power Button and Volume down for 2-3 Minutes and Hold them. ( Handy must be connected to the charger !!! )
This means more then 120 Seconds. Then your handy will boot to Recovery.
then navigate to "start" in recovery with volume buttons and hit "power button" that it starts normally.
Try this please it helped me....and say us if it worked for you !
this solutions helps if android gets freezed .I first tough also my handy was death. But it worked for me.
But remember it must be connected to charger and press more then 120 seconds and hold !!!This will work on all Motorola Handys with Android.

Nupp, not working, I too think that I should wait for the full june security rom and post that the blank flash files to get my device alive again. I would please request someone to gain access to the blank flash files after the june rom is released.
June security update won't let you downgrade and has bricked many devices. You have to wait until full rom of 6/17 is released as you've said. If under warranty, you can send it in. If insured, you can try to kill your phone by dropping in water and collect insurance.

Yes, we would be needing the updated blank flash files for the june update, can you please tell me about how long the june blank flash files are released after the full fastboot rom is released as per the past experiences and would that increase chances for my device to get revived?
June full ROM lauched:

How can I extract the blankflash from this ROM? It's possible? Please, help me! I didn't found in Google a way to get these files to save my moto g4+ hard briked

Well, we're gonna need a copy first to see what's inside - that link keeps giving me access denied. Presumably it's only for service centres or for developers. Strange, it's working now...
This link is OK! I downloaded it right now using Chrome from my phone. I'm from Brazil.

Ah, you're right - dunno why the link gave me access denied initially - it's downloading okay too now.
EDIT - just downloaded the ROM and had a look - no sign of a new blank flash that could help us unfortunately.
Looks like the only resolution, unfortunately, for a bricked device involving the NPJS25.93-14-8 update, (whether it was downgraded with a stock ROM, or you somehow downgraded from the June update, and then updated with the June OTA) is to send it for service or save up for a new device.

echo92, can you plzz check and also ask vache and some of the other developers too, to go through the june rom and see if there's any file which we can use to revive our devices.
Edit: sorry, didn't saw ur reply
Gpt.bin from ROM have same archives from blankflash, but gpt.bin have 32kb and blankflash more than 3Mb! Anyone know how to put gpt.bin data inside blankflash to update the partition table and possible unbrick the device? It's just an idea!

is there anyway to edit contains of singleimage.bin ?
The blankflash stays the same.. only the gpt.bin and bootloader.img are to be changed accordingly

Can you upload a copy if you've downloaded it? The link doesn't work now. Seems to have been removed.
gpt.bin of the latest firmware and singleimage.bin file from the Blankflash seems to be having the same contents.
I tried renaming gpt as singleimage and tried using blankflash
It didn't work. Also the size of both the files are not even comparable one is 32kb and another is 4mb

Yes, but I think that Bootloader.img and GPT.bin are inside singleimage.bin data, because it rewrite these information on bricked phones. I don't know singleimage.bin have signed data. If it had signed data, no chance to patch/modify it!
I'll try some hex editor and run some tests!!!

tywinlannister7's kindly uploaded the ROM for us [EDIT - link removed as the ROM appears to cause loss of SIM for some devices]

Moto X style XT1575 WiFi don't work

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, I'm looking for help with a Moto X style XT1575. I tell you the problem: I bought a Moto X Style used on the internet and it turns out that WiFi does not work, the phone is with MM 6.0.1. Entering Configuration, WiFi, you see a line with movement, as if the phone is still searching for networks with the switch turned off and when you try to activate it, it immediately goes back on by itself. I was reading a bit about this error and it seems quite repeated, not only in this model but also in other Motorola. I saw cases in which besides the WiFi also does not work the Bluetooth, in my case the problem is only in the Wifi. The phone is not rooted or anything, it is factory and reset, I am not sure if it is free but apparently yes, because I accepted sims from two different companies.
Could you help me solve this? From already thank you very much
(I'm using the Google translator, sorry if something I say is not understood)

Is the bootloader unlocked?
No, I think it was officially updated to MM and was left with this problem.

If the bootloader is locked the solution i can think of is to flash the latest firmware (if available).
If there any hardware fault then flashing firmware won't fix this.
Reflash MM? Would that fix the WiFi? I have read cases where the official update itself generates the problem, and they flash the modem and it works, without having to reload the whole system. I do not really know what to do

And flash non-hlos.bin and fsg.bin (at your own risk)
This may fix it.
And don't forget to see if the build version matches.
It looks like the versions match. To do this I have to unlock the bootloader and root the phone, is that correct? I'm a rookie, you'll see

Those are stock images so i don't think you need to unlock bootloader. Just flash via fastboot.
Only flash non-hlos.bin and fsg and also Bluetooth if Bluetooth isn't working.
You can flash via fastboot?
In that post says it's for Pure and my phone is Style. I know they are the same but that clarification made me doubt.
I have not tried because I do not understand how to do it, I see many posts about this and I do not know where to start

Read carefully the first and second line of the screenshot you have given. It show moto x pure edition.
Update to Nougat would solve this or would it be better to try to flash only those files as it is now in MM?
I could only update using my operator's internet

You can't update using mobile data you have to use wifi.
Marshmallow doesn't allow updates via mobile data.
But u can use other mobile and creat wifi hotspot to update.
U can try updating. But in cause some thing break you may have to unlock your bootloader.
And is nougut available for xt1575?
Yes, Nougat is now available for some regions. How can i create a hotspot if te phone does not have WiFi? Can not connect to any network

Oh,right forgot about that.
You can use nougut update zip for xt1575 (if available i couldn't find any)
Or flash is the last option.(i don't know any other fix).
Do you have adb and fastboot in your pc?
No. I'm totally new, I do not understand practically anything

Alright, you are going to want to download minimal fastboot and adb drivers for PC (assuming you are on windows?) https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790&page=70 You do not need an unlocked bootloader or need to be rooted to be able to flash stock. @yk1999 provided the correct file, and so just Google how to flash the commands @yk1999 said. Or follow this guide of how to relock bootloader.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...rn-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110/page33
Edit : the commands are fastboot flash...and then the file names that @yk1999 posted. This should be enough. Download the file I linked you for fastboot and adb, turn on us debugging in settings, and then flash away!

Install adb
Goto bootloader
Connect your usb cable to pc
Press enter after writing each line
fastboot flash modem non-hlos.bin(path to non-hlos.bin)
fastboot flash fsg fsg(path to fsg)
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
Thanks to both of you. I do not need the drivers of the phone?

Drivers are included with adb but you can install Motorola device manager it will also install drivers. Search it on Google.
Many thanks to both, I could solve it. They really saved me, I do not know how to thank them
