There will always be a stock rooted version of any release. Someone always cooks one up.

Chances are, there will be a root exploit for the new 4.4 update. But ultimately, we'll just have to wait and see.
As I'm sure you're aware if you've looked through the Dev section, there are plenty of 4.4 ROM's already available for the G2. You may want to look into some of those for the time being to hold you over until the official 4.4 release.

Great thanks but the update i was referring too is the "Spark" update to enable the Spark icons and extra bands for LTE!

Does Sprint even take the time to patch root exploits?
Kidding. However, from everything I've read, Sprint doesn't seem to be bothered with root exploits on their devices. But someone with actual Sprint experience would likely know better than I.

Casual root doesn't work on this edition? Is that a touchwiz only root method or something?
So motochopper root method does not work?

I thought there was a post about 4.3 from the Google Play edition already being ported to the I337?
I have SuperSU installed, I will try a root explorer to check out if it actually works.
On another note, does anyone know how to get to the app switcher? it seems to be removed from the home button.
EDIT: SuperSU does not work at all, still no way to root. I read that it was due to binaries needing to be updated for the new version.

I will check it out in a moment to confirm if that is how it is done!
EDIT: Confirmed!
I'm seeing the ROMs for the I9505, can that one be flashed or is there one specifically for I337 yet? As well, right now I have the KT-SGS4-TW Loki'd kernel with the 4.2 GE ROM on it, would I just be able to flash the 4.3 over that, or should a different kernel be used? And finally, more of a beginner question, loosing root won't mess with the custom recovery, will it? I'll still be able to access TWRP to flash something different?
The 4.3 download named "Android-4.3-I9505GUEUBMFP-Deodexed-I9505.zip" appears malicious <-- my pc says this is malicious. can anyone else confirm this is a safe download. this is from the "ATT-sgh-i337 android development" section of this forum. Thx in advance. yes I know it says "I9505GUEUBMFP". Which is why i posted what forum topic its from.

[Q] Remove TWRP without flashing stock?

Sorry if I sound like a total noob here, but is there any way to remove TWRP without flashing the stock firmware? I came from a DROID RAZR, which had safestrap, where we could remove custom recovery at will with that app on the phone. Can ADB remove TWRP similarly as to how it put it there? Thanks for the help.

Why do you want to remove it? Do you want to flash CWM? If so you can flash CWM over the top using Flashify.
The main reason would be to receive an update from LG like when the release the 4.4 builds.

I used flashify to make a backup of the stock recovery and then flashed TWRP. If you haven't already flashed TWRP look into making a backup of stock.
However, though those of use rooted LG G2 users may not be able to update over the air, we should be able to use our computers and USB connection to manually install the 4.4 release at some point after the 4.4 update goes live. I'm new to LG - long time Galaxy owner - so maybe I'm wrong about that and someone with more LG experience can correct me.
I haven't had an LG phone before either, so I don't know. Can someone who has had an LG phone before please enlighten me/us as to how you would go about applying LG updates when you have a custom recovery? That's where this question really came from.

Do you know if the recovery is universal across non-verizon devices?
If so, would you mind posting a flashable version of yours? I'm a bonehead and flashed twrp before backing up my original...

I don't know if the recoveries are universal - would be reluctant to share my AT&T with you and find you messed up your phone trying to restore. You might want to post this request in a separate thread.

[SOLVED] Thoughts about going from rooted 4.2.2 to 4.3 OTA?

I have an AT&T LG G2. On my previous phone, after I accepted the OTA for 4.1.x to 4.3 on a Galaxy S3, it was a nightmare. I couldn't get su to run, and I got all kinds of security errors (apparently from KNOX), and not just for superuser. Even though I read several threads about it, I never was sure if it was 4.3 at fault -- which does seem to have some issues per Chaintech -- or if it was Samsung's KNOX, or both. So I certainly want to do my homework before I do that on my new LG.
Which is asking at least these questions:
Should I bother updating from 4.2.2 to 4.3 on the G2?
(I've read the technical differences, which seem to be incremental. I just want opinions here. For example, things like the new Camera UI may be irrelevant considering LG's customizations already in place with 4.2.2.)
If it isworth upgrading, will it retain root with an OTA? If it doesn't, what is the best way to go about restoring it in 4.3?
This firmware is probably the first I've ever seen, and that's a lot since first adopting the original T-Mobile G1, where I didn't want to replace the ROM. It's that slick. For now, I just need root and a custom recovery.
TIA.

Well, I'm not sure how much more official the Over-The-Air update from AT&T could be.
By the way there is no official 4.3 for g2 yet.

Hmm, this seems to be the case, now I'm reading they may skip over 4.3 completely. This update it's offering to install is a bug fix and remains at 4.2.2. It's like 57MB, so I assumed it would be 4.3 as my Galaxy SIII got that a while back (and blew up, hence this whole thread).
I'll probably wait until KitKat comes out, then. I really like the LG ROM, and I just wanted root for backups, ad blocking, etc. I've run CyanogenMod since back when it was called JesusFreke, but then I'd have to reinstall everything and all that jazz. Question is, can I wait until Q1 2014.

[Q]Anyone update VZW LG g2?

I'm rooted and was wondering if the new
VS98012B update was worth it and plus if it would get my phone to boot loop by getting this update since I'm rooted.

I used the LG Mobile Support tool while rooted because the update failed otherwise. After getting the update I no longer have root. I'm happy with this update, it added a few small things and corrected an issue with the touch screen behaving erratically. I haven't tried to re-root it and I haven't bothered with any custom recoveries since this update.

I was rooted - stock recovery took the B OTA and didn't loose root mine also didn't wipe. Ive checked and my Verizon g2 does indeed say it has the new B update on it.
12b and no custom recovery
if you are still on 11a, use ioroot to root your phone and then install a recovery afterwards.
if you update to 12b you can still root it, but for now you wont get a custom recovery to install.
that should change today or shortly i would guess, but if your gonna flash roms your better off doing it now in 11a and skipping 12b.
just a heads up and info share. enjoy

Are their instructions on how to do this? I'm rooted and the update just keeps failing. Also, I have read that VooDoo does allow you to keep root.

I've been wondering if i should accept the new update, thought i heard somewhere that it included a patch to relock the bootloader or something, & I'm planning on rooting mine (vs98011a). Sounds like its a worthwhile upgrade tho..my screen gets just a tiny bit glitchy sometimes. Guess I'll go ahead & take it then, thanx for the heads up. As long as i can root it still after I'm good...?
Boatloader had always been locked. There is just currently no working recovery/loki with the current update. If you plan on flashing/heavy modding, don't take it. You can still root.
Edit: Apparently, Freegee now works to flash recovery on 12B.

10-4, well thanx for the heads up bro. I ended taking the update & I'm glad i did cuz it fixed the screen glitch. I'm gonna root as soon as i can get to a decent computer. Idk anything about freegee....I'll have to look into it. Well hey, i appreciate the info man looks like i have some research to keep me busy for a min. Thanx again! Btw...I'm lovin this phone, its a totally underestimated beast. Any tips on a good rom aosp/stock would both be good to know about. Heard OSE had one for this phone maybe & i loved ose on my s3.

Developers edition - possible to extract goodness from ota?

Figuring that the stock one is so locked down, is it possible to take new features of an ota of the regular s5 and flash it to a dev edition one without messing up root? Things like updated boot, going from 4.4.x to 4.5, etc?
I recall but never fully understood that was the problem with the s4, they never sent out ota update for the dev edition....
Just debating getting an s5 dev edition, but don't want to be stuck with original firmware/software

I believe you can upgrade from 4.4 to 4.5 but have to flash a unlocked bootloader like one from t-mobile or a international version. From what I gather from the Note 3 thread that's pretty much how they do it.
Well I know the s4 dev edition's problem was that they wouldn't update firmware for it, stuff like the boot (I forget which other things weren't able to get updated since they weren't sending out otas), which left the device with only it's original firmware
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
You'll be able to do some stuff. Consider how cm releases updated firmware even though the carrier doesn't make a release. It's tough but possible.
