[Q] suggest a wireless controller? - M.O.J.O. General

I think the retail CTRLR launches in the US summer right?,
is that's 6 months away?
Anyway, what do you guys use as a second wireless controller?
Something that works well on MOJO and not too pricy, to tie me over until I get another CTRLR
Edit: Does the PS3 controller work without the USB cable? My clone doesn't
I don't want to root my MOJO, until kitkat away

I'm thinking of investing in a MOGA Pro, actually.

interesting
I'll try a wiimote, some time this week.
Anyone tried an xbox360 usb receiver on the MOJO?
Edit: I just remembered ouya's controller list!

X-arcade and Mojo

Hi
New here and to the Mojo. Haven't got one yet but am considering. Does anyone know if you can use an X-arcade controller with the Mojo? If yes, is it hard to set up? Do I have to side load anything or root the device?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Garry

Hi,
Well I don't have one, but I have used USB controllers just fine.
I would check if the MOJO's kernel version (2.4 or 2.6 from memory) support the controller and if it does.. there is a good chance it will work fine.
I doubt it would need an app for using the controller, if the game/emu lets you map/configure your controller then you wouldn't have a problem.
I would still recommend rooting in any case.
I'm not sure which X arcade controller you have, but from the X Arcade website it says that the joystick acts like a keyboard and the trackball acts as a mouse. It also says it's 100% compatible with any operating system. Based on this it should be recognized on the MOJO. It did say that you need two USB connections, one for the joystick and one for the trackball. The MOJO has only a 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports, so keep that in mind. Until Kit Kat comes out, you need to have the bluetooth dongle in the MOJO for their controller to work.
On a side note, on the Madcatz website they have a 20% off code for the MOJO until July 1st, so you could save 40 bucks on it now. I really like the MOJO. It has a few issues, but for gaming on it's been awesome. Reliving some of my old Playstation games atm on the MOJO with FPSE emulator and works great.
I've barely used my mojo as I haven't got my hands an a male to male yet . But have you tried using something like USB/BT joystick centre?

Game Controller für Amazon Fire TV

Hi, I'm searching a cheap game controller for our Amazon Fire TV where I do not need root access on the device.
I have already a ps3 controller but to run this controller on the Fire TV I need root access. Do you know a game controller which run good and witout an advance installation?
Many thanks...
What's wrong with the original amazon controller ?
http://www.amazon.de/Amazon-53-0031...e=UTF8&qid=1411563380&sr=8-2&keywords=fire+tv
ok, it's a little pricy, but I expect optimizations for this one
Maybe the Tronsmart Mars G01 as an alternative ?
http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/07/21/tronsmart-mars-g01-wireless-gamepad-review-on-android/
360 and Wii U Pro controllers work without root, but you'll need to purchase USB receivers to use them. I've been using an NES30 (www.nes30.com) and it's great as long as you don't need any analog sticks. I have the OEM FireTV game controller as well, and it works great for games with analog controls.
I have a wired 360 Gamepad, & a wired PS3 gamepad.
they work okay.
I ended up buying the Amazon Game Controller because I liked the idea of no wires and I wanted better compatibility with the stuff that is out. For instance, Dungeon Quest which works with the above controllers, if you didn't mind not getting into the inventory & stats (which you need to). You could reprogram the keys, but for whatever reason, they didn't work.
I didn't want to have to use 2 different gamepads, that's bad enough on my PC, dang wire tangle. Anyways, I like the Amazon Game Controller. It's light, solid, the buttons feel great, the digital pad feels really nice, and it's sticks are more like the PS2/3/4 sticks we've all come to love.
I also choose the AGC because I couldn't get the USB Gamepad app I like to work on the FireTV, just bugs out searching for devices.
I don't know how long the batteries last though, only have had it for a few days.
Surprised no one has recommended the NYKO Playpad PRO. http://www.amazon.com/PlayPad-Pro-Amazon-Fire-TV/dp/B00J9P3KBS/ref=dp_ob_title_vg.
All of the above mentioned do a pretty good job.
Sometime a bit of a fiddle pending on the game and that's the fun part.
Cheers

[Q] Does the Nexus Player's Controller work on OUYA?

I was about to the buy the Nexus Player, along with the controller, and I was wondering if someone could test the controller on the OUYA. I really like the Nexus Player's controller, so I was wondering if it can be used to replace to the OUYA controller?
Idk, But if/when they release kernel source you could probably port the controller to ouyas kernel if you had to
Will the ouya or ps4 controllers work on Nexus player. God I hope so. I have 4 ouya and 4 ps4 controllers. I can't afford to buy any more controllers.
Does anyone have an answer for this?

By default, the Ouya controller does not work very well, the button mapping is all messed up. Once we get root, I can add the proper keyboard layout files from the Ouya and let you know if that works. At least it pairs just fine.
Ps4 controller does not work
I've tried a bunch of times to get the PS4 controller to work, but I cannot get it to pair over bluetooth and I don't have a usb otg cable to see if it works over usb. :/
Do you have the nexus player gamepad? Can it pair with OUYA and play games?

I do not have a Nexus Player gamepad. I already have 4 Ouya gamepads, so I thought getting another one was just too much.
I've got the nexus gamepad delivered to me yesterday and although I haven't tested pairing it with the ouya yet, I'm pretty sure that the button mapping will be messed up. I have paired it with my note 10.1 2014 and it works great! Especially with Limelight (whatever the newest root ver is)
Yup, as said above, it DOES pair, but the mapping is all messed up. One of the keypad buttons maps to 'back', not had the triggers working in anything. But some games have still been playable.
Hope someone gets this working as it's also quite good to have the touchpad area to move around too.
Oh, the other thing is both the standard gamepad and the ouya gamepad when paired show as the same controller (ie, player1). Not sure where the other ouya pad I've got is to see if that turns up as player2.

Using an original Xbox controller

I have an original Xbox controller that I want to use for the droid turbo. Will not having root access ruin it's use if I order the adapter? Seems like the apps that don't need root for controllers aren't as good as the ones that do.
Bump
I've seen a couple of threads mentioning this. Like here.
The question is probably better asked whether it works with Android or not.
I'm pretty sure if you do a google search, you can find some videos. I know I've recently seen pairing with an Xbox One controller through the USB/BT Joystick app.
I use a USB OTG Cable, and a USB controller. You can buy many IME apps which support this. Seriously go to Wal*Mart or best buy and get a Logitech controller. Easy peasy and it makes playing snes roms a breeze. Why mod a piece of history?
It works fine lol Logitech
I use a wired 360 controller and a converter dongle thing on my nexus 7. I'm not sure if we're pursuing the same end, but It works for me.

Cannot get 360 controller to work

I tried 4 controllers and 2 cables but the shield never recognizes it. Is there something special I need to do?
2 cables?? What controllers are you using? Wireless?
Note that the charging cable is only a charging cable there is no data at all. X360 Wireless controllers can only be used on PC or Android devices with the PC receiver Microsoft sells.
Lmfao really?. I've never seen another cable for the 360 to be honest so I assumed that was it. So what's the name of the cable I need?
So I guess I need to get the wireless dongle then huh
Yes if you have wireless controllers they only work on Xbox, for other devices you need the receiver. Wired controllers yes they work without any configuration or addon equipment.
As I said the cables you attach in the front of the controller are only for charging purposes nothing else. Even when you plug it to the xbox and use it, it charges the batteries only the connection is still done via wireless.
Yea I understand, I never had a wired controller so I had no idea.
I don't need that $30 new adapter right?
I see people saying $5-10 ones on ebay, do they mean these?

Yes those are the chinese ones. I cannot ensure you that they will work straight out of box. I read some posts where people add to edit files to use i on Android. Don't know if its true or not. MS ones are much more expensive but they work fine without tweaks but they are also rare. One possibility is you sell one of your remotes for a good buck and buy the combo remote + receiver. I bought one recently for around 40€ but I had only one remote at home.
Which games are you planning to use it on? Full android TV someone reported today that some Android games are not fully compatible because of the Dpad location. I'm guessing some games need a joystick there like the PS3 remotes have. I'm using mine attached to the PC and I use it to play streaming games only, range is quite good on that receiver. For Android games I will probably use the BT ipega gamepad I bought 1 year ago or droidmote
I will use it on some old retro games with friends. Mario kart, tecmo bowl etc. No games too crazy.

This one is official microsft, guess I will get this one
Yap that's an original one. Happy gaming.
the USB cables for the wireless controllers are ONLY for charging.
I know its stupid but theres nothing you can do except getting a wireless adapter.
I got a receiver, ordered it today
Just get the 360 wired controller.

I can confirm that the 360 pad is not fully compatible with some AndroidTV games. Specifically, Portal and Half-Life 2 won't accept input from the d-pad. It has nothing to do with the physical location of the pad, as it should show as a "POV Hat" regardless of its physical location. It just doesn't work for some reason.
...which is a shame, because the Shield controller is rubbish.

Dpad also doesn't work on Borderlands the Pre-sequel. And Trine 2 just flat refuses to recognises that you have a controller attached at all. Everything else I've tried works fine.
