Hi Experts!
I'm currently running a rooted KitKat (Jackaway ROM) and for some strange reason don't have the option to select the new runtime ART, introduced with KitKat. I am looking in under the developer options where it's supposed to sit, but apparently not here. Anyone out there experienced a similar thing? Any possible fixes for this?
Cheers
Because ART has been taken out of Kitkat on the Note 3 by Samsung regardless of whether you are rooted or not.

This is really the only reason, I would update to KitKat. Disappointed.

Hello. Quick question. I got my Galaxy S4 from at&t and removed the stock TouchWiz ROM and put in the official Google Edition Android 4.3 ROM from the Galaxy S4 i9505G (I believe that model is the Google Play edition S4). I just wanted to know since I have the official Google Edition stock ROM on my at&t Galaxy S4, will I get the update for 4.4 KitKat? Please let me know if a question I am asking is already out in the forms. Other than that, let me know with an answer to this question.
The official 4.3 ota isnt out yet for our we have a long way to go unless someone delevops it

I believe the OTA wouldn't work, or may brick your device. I'd wait for someone to build it so it doesn't try and replace your bootloader or anything

No. Do not take the official 4.4 update. It may brick your phone. Wait for the devs to make a cwm flashable ROM and then flash that.

The stock OTA in the GPE rom shouldn't even work on our SGH-1337 devices, and if it somehow did manage to work it would probably soft-brick the device. Just wait until 4.4 builds come out for custom roms, it'll probably take a couple months to see a stable release but it'll be worth the wait. On a side note, there is a thread laying around here somewhere with some of the 4.4 apps ripped off a Nexus 5 that will run and function correctly on the 4.2.2 - 4.3.1 builds. I'm using the 4.4 keyboard and I find it a lot more accurate with swipe. :good:
Alright. Now I know. I will definitely wait for the ROMs then.
Thank you so much everyone for answering my question.
I have an s4 that was claimed as lost. I was trying to update to 4.3 ota here in the philippines and it would not allow me to do so. My new s4 that was sent to me has updated without any problems. Is there any way for me to update it with odin?
My reason that I want to update is because the phone get really hot all day and battery doesn't last. I am suspecting that the processor is not sleeping and therefore eating away at the battery. Another issue that i have is the mobile hotspot/tethering doesn't work.
What are your suggestions? Should Install a rom? if yes, which one? should I install xposed? BTW, We already tried to factory reset the phone.
Witch S4 is it . edit your profile or add your model/baseband to your signature. It can help others help you

Figuring that the stock one is so locked down, is it possible to take new features of an ota of the regular s5 and flash it to a dev edition one without messing up root? Things like updated boot, going from 4.4.x to 4.5, etc?
I recall but never fully understood that was the problem with the s4, they never sent out ota update for the dev edition....
Just debating getting an s5 dev edition, but don't want to be stuck with original firmware/software

I believe you can upgrade from 4.4 to 4.5 but have to flash a unlocked bootloader like one from t-mobile or a international version. From what I gather from the Note 3 thread that's pretty much how they do it.
Well I know the s4 dev edition's problem was that they wouldn't update firmware for it, stuff like the boot (I forget which other things weren't able to get updated since they weren't sending out otas), which left the device with only it's original firmware

You'll be able to do some stuff. Consider how cm releases updated firmware even though the carrier doesn't make a release. It's tough but possible.

Is anyone else able to enable ART on their S5? I have the latest build, rooted, xposed installed, and some minor tweaks. Every time I go into developer options and enable ART, it prompts the reboot. My phone does a somewhat normal reboot and it stays on Dalvik. I know I tried ART on the original software build back is April or May. It worked at that time but it didn't play nice with a couple of my apps. Is anyone currently using ART on a rooted phone?
Xposed is not compatible with ART.
I was suspecting that. Thanks. I wouldn't give up Xposed for anything. I hope they can eventually make it work with Android L.
Supposedly there is already something that will work, but it's not being released until L.

The dev posted that he isn't seriously working on it until AFTER 'L' it's finalized. Google keeps changing too much in ART, and it is a waste of time to keep chasing it. He had a proof of concept working before he stopped tinkering though.
So it could be a while after L is released before xposed supports ART. But it definitely will eventually. Although even then it is probable that it will only support ART in L or newer due to changes in ART from 4.4 to 5.x.
Hey guys, 2 years ago I upgrade my Galaxy S Captivate to a Galaxy S4. When I got the S4 I disabled the system update (don't remember how) and I installed SafeStrap, and also Rooted the stock OS. Since then I haven't really done much with my S4.
I didn't do much else with it because at the time the options were few. Boot loader was locked. So now that it's been 2 years, what options do I have?
When I had my captivate, and also used a Droid Razor Maxx, I was running Cyanogenmod. I was also running CM on my Galaxy Tab 2.
Is there a way to get a CM Rom on my Galaxy S4. The boot loader is MK2. And like I said, SafeStrap is installed.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I've been doing some reading but get lost fairly quickly since I don't come back here as frequently as I should.
Thank you in advance.

You could upgrade to kit-kat and if you want lollipop you could upgrade to lollipop from kit-kat. You can find all the rom and instructions here.
If you want to use CM, you upgrade your phone to kit-kat, install safestrap and install the CM11. The post is here.
And all this is possible with the boot loader locked?
Two years ago I disabled the phones request to upgrade and disabled whatever service is responsible for the upgrade. Now I can remember what I disabled.

Bootloader locked means you can not install the custom recovery like CWM, TWRP and you can not install the custom kernel.
If you go through the first link that I mentioned, you would find "Block the AT&T OTA update".
Yea I knew I couldn't do TWRP or CWM and kernel, which is why I have SafeStrap installed.
Thanks man. I'll play with it a bit and do more reading.
