I purchased a note 3. The previous owner modified the phone (rooted) and screwed up the whole thing there was not wifi or cellular. Checked the firmware and it said custom. I figured I could reset the phone to stock and use it normally. I located the firmware from sam mobile and flashed through Odin. The flash went of no errors ( so I believe I picked the right firmware however still no wifi and I get the not registered on network when I put in my SIM card? Shouldn't the appropriate kernels and modem be installed with the stock firmware? Checked the imei number is appears ok however the software shows a different number than the sticker on the back of the phone. At this point I am out of ideas. Has any one ever experienced this?
I have the Canadian note 3 SM-N900W8 model and flashed the following

Hi!
I just like to share something I have discovered during the time I was already going nutts when I discovered that my phones IMEI was replaced by another set of numbers. It all started when I flashed a Firmware XXUBUBMG1 (Movistar) that I downloaded. It was for GT-I9500, the same model as my phone. Everything went well, then I noticed this problem when I decided to call the Customer Service Number of my SIM, the device is telling me that my phone is Not registered on network. Then I decided to check the IMEI and to my horror, it was replaced by this set of numbers, 004003150000, which is not my phones IMEI. Then I decided to look for answers over the internet. But before going further and going thru all the trouble of starting from scratch, an idea came to my mind. I decided to try it out before doing anything else. And whoalah! My phone's IMEA is restored! I can make calls again and connect to the net via Mobile Data again.
Anyway here is the solution that I came up with. If anyone else had tried this before then I give all the credits to him for fixing his phone.
1. Download a firmware that is intended for your phone's model number and the region where you bought your S4. Mine was bought in Saudi Arabia, so the firmware I got was for KSA. It also applies for the GT-I9505.
2. Enter Download Mode and flash this firmware via Odin on your PC. I didn't do any Wipe or Factory Reset during this time.
3. Root and install any custom Kernel or CWM Recovery on your phone if you are on this setup. Otherwise leave it as it is.
Before you judge me by saying how i'm posting something thats done before, it hasn't, I've searched everywhere no methods work
Please, someone help me I've been at this for 4 days now and maybe just 15 hours of sleep :crying:.
The phone I have right now is the SGH-i337m Galaxy s4 running NC1 with MDJ modem (Kitkat 4.4.2) Does not detect sim, it says "No sim available".
I'm not exactly sure if the phone is from Bell but the phone use to be running fine on my old rogers sim card until I updated to their new ShareTap Sim.
With the ShareTap Sim the phone doesn't detect my sim anymore. So I tried my Share Tap Sim in another unlocked phone (Galaxy note 3) it worked fine.
Then I tried a Virgin mobile sim card on the S4 and it detected it and worked fine also. So then I tried to unlock it by flashing it with many different methods:
1. I tried flashing a older version of Bell 4.2.2 but it bricked my phone ( I already unbricked it back to 4.4.2)
2. I tried flashing the MDJ modem but it doesn't show the hidden menu.
3. I tried flashing ATT modem to try it but that also bricked my phone.
4. I tried to use the AWS tutorial shown here
5. I tried the regionlock away tutorial here in the third method (RegionlockAway doesnt do anything to my phone)
6. I pulled the modem.bin from the TAR file from sammobile of Bell's 4.2.2. But it still doesn't show the hidden menu! It's the MDJ modem but it still doesn't work!
I'm not sure whats wrong with my phone. When I put the Virgin mobile sim card in there it only shows Telus, EXT and Virgin Sim networks available not the whole spectrum which is what is supposed to happen with the 337_aws.qcn file from the AWS tutorial. Then when I flash MDJ modem from bell or the one from this dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2m3id2cx4l...37MVLUAMDJ.zip
It still doesn't show my secret menu.
The secret menu I'm trying to access is the *#0011# but if that didn't work I also tried the *#9090# It still doesn't show the secret menu. So what do I do now? Please Help!
Thanks for reading!
Sorry to hear that, but you are in the same situation i was, the phone was probably sim-unlocked by Box Software, like Octopus or Z3X Boxes as i did, the phone won't recognize some sim cards by unknown reasons, there is no fix avaliable for this as i changed imei, tried different NVM from other phone & even replacing sim card reader. i finally sold it & got myself a i337m unlocked via code.
Edit:
forgot to mention, My SIM stopped being recognized when i upgraded it to a newer LTE version
Kind regards.
Have you tried stock NC1 with the included modem? If the device is unlocked, you might have better success with SIM recognition. In my case, my device was not unlocked, so I Odin flashed stock Telus MDJ, then rooted with CF-Auto-Root, unlocked with RegionlockAway (KNOX tripped), and applied the AWS Mod.
Then I flashed stock NC1 with the incl. modem (root gone), and managed to get Rogers LTE and Wind H+ on the Telus device. From there, I OTA updated, and rooted with CF-Auto-Root, flashed TWRP, and worked my way to 5.0.1. Trust me I know how frustrating this can be, but thanks to this forum, there was a solution. Here's what worked for me (link). Good luck.
Current status- Note 3 running stock 5.0 Lollipop and root is unavailable. No Mobile Data connectivity
Model SM-N900T (Tmobile) Baseline - N900TUVUFO86
Story- Three days ago I updated from 4.2.2 to Lollipop 5.0 . Shortly thereafter issues appears such as not being able to set PIN security.
Factory resets didn't help. Re-flashing again with 5.0 (BTW, all done through Kies) resolved the issue but other issues appeared. Mobile data connectivity via Tmobile was lost. Couldn't select a Tmobile network- times out. APN is correct + all other settings. I downgraded the phone back to 4.2.2 hoping it would correct the issue but not. Still no mobile data connectivity. Tmobile in-store tech were no help. IMEI appears intact when viewed through *#06#- matches the back of the phone; however, when looking into the details (*#0011#) I see a IMEI FAIL CERT -4. Besides this issue everything else is perfectly fine.
My thoughts are the modem needs to be re-flashed via odin. I found one specifically for Tmobile Note 3 US (from around 2013) on this site. It's a BIN file which I've compressed to a TAR ( suppose I could flash the BIN using phone in odin too). I need some advice here if flashing this modem is the right thing to do. If not, any other suggestions?
Thanks
Hello guys
my problem started when I tried to upgrade from 4.4.2 (KitKat) to 5.0.1 (lollipop), I tried first to upgrade using Kies but I just didn't work it recognized my phone and downloaded the firmware but couldn't install, so I went to the other option "odin" I flashed the firmware for my region for my phone yet when it turned on I had a very week signal.
when I tried going back to kitkat I had no service at all and lost my IMEI and baseband, then I tried different regions of lollipop and kitkat, but still nothing, and I thought I lost my IMEI and that I need to write it manually using this box (I don't remember its name) until yesterday when I flashed a Turkish kitkat which restored my IMEI and baseband but still no service, then I backed up my efs folder and went on trying every modem in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
I tried everyone of them some gave me "no service" others "emergency calls only" and a third group didn't even recognize the sim card however all of them changed my IMEI to either NULL or the fake IMEI.
now I tried to restore my esf folder but it didn't work, so I thought to re-flash the Turkish firmware (which retrieved my IMEI and serial) but also didn't work and now I still have a fake IMEI which is weird because it worked before.
I tried every method every solution and nothing worked
I even contacted Samsung who told me that it cannot be fixed in Europe cause it is an international model and has to be fixed from where it was bought (Jordan)
and now um feeling really hopeless
please help

Ive got similiar problem can u contact me on this mail [email protected]
Same problem here. I have no idea what my original firmware was. My phone was bought in Panama...
same here i lost my imei and serial after upgrading firmeware.
i can't understand how samsung made it easy to brick a phone, and made difficulte to repair it
if there is a solution !!!
i am using galaxy s4 for a year
it was not locked to any carrier
i updated to lollipop and didnt like it and then i flashed kitkat over lollipop
then i faced invalid imei issue
after many searches on google i found the solution of flashing rom and modem files will solve the issue
so i flashed few stock roms and few modems
now i got back my imei, my baseband version is correct
but when i check service mode *#0011#
it shows IMEI CERTI - FAIL
and it asks for sim unlock after every restart and cannot register to network
i guess that when i flashed few roms, one of those roms might be a carrier specific rom.
now how can i get rid of that, coz no carrier will give me unlock code because it was never locked to any carrier
Check the SIM unlocking thread in the General forum for added details, but in short, downgrade the modem to an Android 4.2.2 version using Odin, install RegionLock Away on the device, and run it. That will blow away the SIM lock so you can use your S4 again. Afterward, restore the existing modem.
