[Q] IOroot 20 help needed it wont reroot my d800 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I am a long time lurker and not much of a poster so I don't have my 10 posts so I can use the developers section!!
I have a d800, I initially rooted with the first version of IOroot available for the d800. Up until tonight it has stayed rooted for the most part. There have been a few times when I flashed something in TWRP and it would say that it appeared I lost root would I like it to reinstall SuperSU, I would let it, then reboot and all was well.
Tonight it randomly became unrooted. And in an effort to give all information I did flash the phone with SuperBam about six hours before for the first time, before this happened.
When I attempt to rreroot using IOroot 20, the computer and phone see each other fine. It will not run the batch file and I can't quite make out why since the command prompt closes to quickly. I decide to just do it manually. I type in adb shell and it responds with the proper information. I issue the command to push Su onto the phone and it successfully completes. I then reboot the phone and pull the USB cable when the screen pops up. After I plug it back in I type adb shell, but instead of the # it is a $. I exit and try to run the remaining commands anyways and get this error:Mountperation not permitted.
I am running 8.1 on my PC, it is the same one that initially rooted the phone. Using TWRP and running ProBam with PAEK.
I was told to post the results from four commands to et assistance:
1.adb shell "getprop ro.product.model" LG-D800
2.adb shell "getprop ro.build.target_operator"
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5038 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
3.adb shell "getprop ro.lge.swversion" No response
4. adb shell "getprop ro.build.fingerprint" lge/g2_att_us/g2:4.2.2/JDQ39B/D80010d.1376460177:user/release-keys
Since I have worked in IT for 20 years, I know most are just going to say get rid of ProBam. I am hoping someone has seen this resolved without doing yet another reflash. If not I will start redoing it in a bit and I like ProBam. and don't really want to get rid of it.

flash the superuser app via recovery, some roms like omnirom have it linked in first post. That should do the trick. After open superuser app, let it update binaries and it should work.

Oh yeah. Thanks I should have seen that one. I better get some sleep

[Q] Fastboot/ADB/sideloading issues

I flashed a 4.4 stock rom on my 2012 32g N7, and unfortunately, didn't notice until too late that it was also overwriting my custom recovery with the stock. Also, in the flashing process I received an error while flashing GAPPS. When I first booted the tablet, everything was fine except for no GAPPS, but I figured it would be simple to just download an APK or two and load them - well, when I tried that with several play store APKs I got "cannot open file" error.
I have now resorted to ADB to "sideload" the apks (and a custom recovery) to the tablet. At first I had trouble with the drivers, but I have followed numerous tutorials and have a solid grasp of how ADB works now. (more on that later)
I also tried WUG's toolkit, but no matter what I tried (or how many drivers I un/installed) I could never get past the "no fastboot device" error.
I used a second version of the ADB from another XDA thread, and was finally able to get my PC at the command prompt to communicate with the N7, and recognize it with "ADB devices" - the result was "<serial> sideload". This is of course when I have the tablet in the stock recovery "adb sideload" mode.
I about yelled for joy, when after six hours of rebooting and tutorials, I was able to get "adb sideload update.zip" to load, but the joy was short lived - as it consistently hangs at "sending: 'sideload' 53%"
I have tried several different zips, of varying names. and even some APK's (which hang at 78%)
Any assistance which can be offered to get this N7 functional again would be greatly appreciated!

If you're flashing the stock KitKat, you shouldn't need to flash a separate gapps package. Aside from making sure you have UAC control, make sure you update boot to 4.23, if you haven't already done so. Flashing 4.4 is easy, as long as you don't make the mistake of ever owning another An droid device and plugging it in to your pc... Dealing with missing/conflicting Windows drivers might require a vacation day and a fist-full of xanax,

[Q] TWRP Bootloop ATT G2

Hey everyone,
As you can probably tell by the title, I am currently in a bootloop with TWRP. The story is as follows: I had the stock rom on, with a custom recovery. I noticed that there was an OTA update, HOWEVER, I knew that we should not install that OTA update because it would mess up our phones. So I come back to my phone to find out that it is in TWRP, so I go to reboot and then end up in TWRP again. I tried to backup and install new roms but that has not worked. Searching through the forums, I have learned that the OTA will install by itself without user intervention meaning that we can only delay the installation. I am assuming within the time period that my phone automatically installed the OTA and thus I am in this situation.
So I look at the FIX for this issue which is posted in the development section, I install ADB, etc. The only problem I having is that when I run adb shell, my computer can not detect my ATT G2. I noticed that you could also go into the terminal command feature of TWRP for that fix. However, when I click on terminal command, it does not bring up a command field where I can type things up. Instead it tells me to browse to a starting folder similar to a file manager.
I would appreciate any input into this matter
Thanks,
Zobabe
EDIT: THANKS to riggsAndroid in #lg-g2 I was able to fix it. I was being stupid and didnt realize you had to click "select" in the terminal command section of TWRP to enter the command.
ALL IS GOOD NOW.

Just asking but when you plug to PC your in fastboot mode right? Since you say twrp command prompt not working

Continual Boot to TWRP [T-Mo]

So for the first time in my history of Android's since the G1 I've finally bricked a phone. Apparently there was an OTA for the T-Mo devices and I managed to hamfist my notification and accept it.
Needless to say I'm now stuck permanently booting into TWRP. I've tried some various troubleshooting methods including doing what I thought was a successful sideload of the TMo-Stock-Rooted Rom. It showed a successful push and ran through the install but I got a message kicked back saying "No OS installed". Now I've seen other users receive this same message and after rebooting anyway they got their ROM to boot.
No such luck for me, after it reboots (post sideload install) it shows system as unmounted and then just boots back into recovery ad nauseum...I'm really at a loss here folks.
Have you already tried this?...

Hadn't tried it previously but I just attempted to run the ADB command and it still boots into TWRP. I'm not sure if those commands worked or not however. I got a big wall of text in terminal after the second command.
FWIW, on every reboot System is unmounted (Data & Cache remain mounted) but I can check it. Seems that it's irrelevant whether its checked or not.
Tried a sideload using the Stock Rooted 110G image and still nothing. Sideload appears to go, and install goes through without error but reboots only into TWRP with System unmounted.

can you get the phone to shut off and stay off. If you can then simply put it in download mode and use LG flash tool to flash stock rom back on. Please let me know if this is an option if not I will try and figure out something else

I can get it to shut off and stay off no problem. I'm on OSX at the moment and likely won't be able to get to a PC until the 9th. I'll definitely give the LG Flash tool method a try when I can.

yes I am afraid you are stuck in till you can get to a real man's computer lol. I'm just kidding though my girlfriend has a stupid Apple and I was stuck with the same problem I had to drive 50 miles to where I used to live to pick up my laptop to fix this. But the LG flash tool works like a charm and you will not have any problems. Just make sure that you read the procedure for the Verizon phone. If you are not surelookup the forum wink Link

Haha I hear you. I moved recently and the apt I'm in doesn't have ethernet drops so I had to order up a PCI wireless nic card =\ I'll dig around for the LG flash tool guides and see what I can learn.
I was hesitant to even flash a recovery because of how ass backwards LG made it for us in the first place =\

brother I feel your pain. But when you get everything all situated I will tell you the easiest way to install a backup recovery program. It is an app in the App Market called free GEE... One click and bam you have a backup lol.. You may want to use freegee to make sure twrp is installed right.. It will just over write all the files and correct any wrongs... Freegee.. Remember that!!

No worries friend! I almost went crazy last night trying to find a fix!! Here what fixed mine!
You need to be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS when typing this in:
Go to Advanced in TWRP and run Terminal
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
then hit go
after it pushes through again type:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
then hit enter and reboot.

Are those commands pushable through ADB? For whatever reason when I get to the Terminal Command through TWRP it wants me to navigate to a different directory and there's no command line to type things in. I've always been a CWM flash a .zip kinda guy so digging into ADB is all new for me.

Ran the terminal side commands, got to LG Splash and we're sitting there now. We'll see how long it sits or if it's a boot loop.
**EDIT**
10 minutes sitting at the LG splash no go. I managed to snag an interim wifi adapter for my desktop so I'm going to try the Flash tool posted from earlier and see if it works.

Can't say for sure, I had seen some to run this way:
adb shell
then the 2 lines of prompt. I'm stuck on a boot loop so I'm trying to get the Flash Tool method to work. I should have not messed with G2 in retrospect lol, way too little support and far too big of a PITA to bother.

Did you have any driver issues? I'm stuck in the same situation booting just to ClockworkMod Recovery after an attempted OTA update. Can't connect to Win7 because driver can't configure properly even with the latest drivers installed. Connects file with my wife's working LG G2 so I know the drivers are right. Also tried to get into download mode with no luck. I'm stuck. Does anyone know how to get pass this?

OK. Finally got it working. Wish I had figured it out before I factory reset my phone. My main issue was the driver. Even though I had the right LG drivers installed, it just would not recognize it properly. Here is what I had to do after a failed device configuration.
- Go to Computer Management and find the failed device and Update Driver.
- Choose to manually select device and then select Have Disk.
- Find and select \Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LG VZW United Driver\64BitADB\lgandadb.inf (Tried the other xxxadb.inf files but none worked)
- When the list of devices is presented, scroll down and select LGE Mobile Server Single ADB Interface
Your device should now be recognized by adb. Follow the steps provided by others above in this thread and you should be good to go. Worked for me. Good luck.
Thank you all for the great knowledge base. Saved me $500!!! ::good:

LG G2 Fastboot

Everything I found on this says volume + and power, which kicks me into download mode, not fastboot.
I've gone into adb and typed adb reboot bootloader, but that just restarts the phone and turns in on like normal.
I google the how to enter fastboot mode on LG G2 and can find plenty of post about being stuck in fastboot, but nothing on how to get into fastboot in the first place.
Found a tutorial here about setting up and using fastboot and thought I was set until I got to the part about "and using fastback", where it just says:
Make sure you have android debugging turned on in your phone (not really needed for fastboot but you do need for ADB), plug it into your computer and boot into fastboot mode...
I felt like watching "Much ado about nothing" when Denzel says; "The learned constable is too cunning to be understood"
Any direction is appreciated.
Hmm, I may have written that guide... Just checked and yeah should have been more clear I'll change that up. It should have read the USB debugging was needed for adb (not for fastboot) so when you can issue
adb reboot bootloader
But after that I did mention to check device specific forum for answers on how to get into fastboot/bootloader and being I've never held an lg g2 I took a quick look around.
Unfortunately the only way that I found that people said works every time is to wipe recovery to get into bootloader mode as the recovery you guys currently have disables something due to a patch getting custom recoveries to work
So yeah, I would advice to speak with someone knowledgeable about your specific device before you just wipe recovery
Out of curiosity, is there something specific you need to do with fastboot or are you just curious about your phone?

the current thing I've been trying to straighten out is that despite being rooted and installing TWRP, I can't install ROMS. I tried CM 11 and Hellfire so that I could put kitkat on, but gave the following:
Error executing updater binary zip.
One of the answers I found said that I had to go back to TWRP 2.3 (I'm using 2.6) and I believe that's where the whole bootloader thing came into play, because it was the way to 'downgrade' -
So then I found Philz touch 6 (as I understand it a mode of CM 11), but here he talked about fastboot and lokifying items. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554053
In the end it still comes back to the "can't load ROMs" issue. Just want a completely stripped down Kitkat that I can add the stuff I want without the bloatware.
Thanks in advance.(and the thanks button was hit on your reply)
For KitKat you should need a newer recovery with SELinux support which I believe is 2.6.x and newer for twrp, 2.3 I doubt would work if there even is one for your phone
But yes fastboot is often the best way to change recoveries but not the only way.
If there is a flashable.zip you could install new recovery from old
If your current ROM supports the flash image binary you can use a terminal emulator
You can use adb to install
Or even apps from the market
I would look for the latest recovery for your device, twrp, cwm, shouldn't matter so long as its new and then find what way works best changing for your phone.
The update-binary issue is often a sign that you need to change recoveries
Unfortunately without having your device I don't know if I can give you the best answers but feel free to ask
Best of luck!

Thanks again. I have adb and the script for loading TWRP 2.6.xx. I unrooted and rerooted the phone, because I wasn't sure how to replace the recovery... Now I think I realize that I could just find another recovery image and place it in the same file as the loki flash and that will flash it (At least that's what I understand at present).
If that's the case, then downloading the Philz touch 6 would work... but not wanting to brick it, I'm still asking and reading.
Hello Guys.
I am having a similar issue. I have a new ROM that will not run because of a faulty lg set up wizard that always force closes and I can not get passed it and a nandroid that for some reason is corrupted. So. This fastboot seems to be a dead end it looks like a quick learning curve of ADB is the only viable answer. I have installed all SDK Manager with ADB Tools and also the required Jarva JDK and LG drivers. The phone is turned on (at the beginning of the faulty setup wizard) In CMD my device is found when typing in 'adb devices' So. I am already to push a new ROM over to the phone.
Do either of you guys know the adb command?
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks
You can't actually flash a new ROM with adb, but you can either push it phone with adb and then flash in recovery. Or if your recovery has an option for adb sideload then use this.
Also setup wizard crashing is usually the fault of wrong gapps or not wiping before flashing a rom
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I found that the best way was to load flashify, that did the trick so I could start trying out ROMs... so no on to the next step - finding a 4.4.2 stripped down stock and the LG stuff I actually like.... thanks again.

I know it's not possible to flash a ROM via ADB. I have everything set up, ADB etc, etc. My phone is turned on and adb is seeing it but I can not work out the command to push. Every time I try to push I just get a long list of ADB instructions (I think they are) but nothing gets pushed. I have read lots of instructions on how to make the command but I still must be doing something wrong.
Here are my parameters;-
adb push/C:\Users\dene\Desktop/cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d802.zip/sdcard
Am I missing some spaces I am not aware of? Are all my slashes the right way round and in the right places? Is my 'sdcard' destination designation correct seeing as there is only internal storage on the G2?
Another problem I am having is that ADB has no problem seeing my sevice EXCEPT when I boot in to recovery (TWRP). When in recovery I lose coms between my device and pc. Hence I can no do TWRP ADB side load (I have tried). I have all the correct LG drivers loaded. Except MTP keeps failing to install? Any ideas?
Not to be mardy about it or hassle you but I am fairly house bound and live out in the country and really require my mobile phone. I have spent many hours trying to figure this out. Any help with the above would be much appreciated?
PS. I did a very thorough wipe, I always do. The gapps are built in to this ROM!
Thanks

You need a space after push
But it usually easier not to enter the location of a file while pushing so cd to the directory first like
cd C:\Users.....
Then once there adb push /nameoffile /locationonphone
But if you don't want to cd, I see you have widows, depending on version you can just right click in the folder your file is located and choose open cmd here

As I thought I bought LG G2 D-802, but it was D-800 and I accidentally install the lollipop of D802 and now it's in bootlap.... I can only get into fastboot and whenever I try to flash .img of D-800 or D-802 it just stuck at "writing .img"
What to do to unbrick the phone and bring it back to live. I tired the adb and fastboot cmd method on windows 10 and windows 7 but no success. It's just stuck at writing .img file.

Root guide for 4.4

A lot of people in the Q&A forum don't seem to know that there is a root avalible to them, so hopefully this will clear that up.
I haven't seen a standalone post for this root method anywhere, but I'll remove this post if one already exists.
Note
This little guide assumes you know how to install adb and use basic command-line tools.
This only works for 4.4, the 4.4.4 OTA isn't downgradable or exploitable right now, upgrading after root keeps root but not write-protection.
First, If you're on system version 19.6.3, flash your phone back to 19.5.3 with rsdlite. If not, skip this step. (instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53141176&postcount=6)
Second, use jcase's pie exploit. (instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...-x-pie-motorola-devices-t2771623/post53128101)
Third, use motowpnomo, but executing "adb shell /data/local/atvc/root.sh" in a separate shell window every time the device reboots (instructions for motowpnomo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/kill-write-protection-motowpnomo-t2551113 as for the command, just spam it till it goes through.)
Forth, install your superuser application (and safestrap if you want custom rom functionality)
Fifth, profit!

That third step has not worked for me. I tried it more than 5 times in the last two days. I kept one window open with NotoWpNoMo and another one with the Pie exploit (adb command).
The root is temporary and write protection is still 1 (enabled).
Without getting it to 0, I cannot succeed in updating the su binaries.
That bit is pretty tricky, as you need to do it right as adb discovers your device (hence the spaming untill it works).
Also, if you're on a Mac, I heard there's some problems that keep adb from discovering it untill it's disconnected and reconnected.
I would suggest trying again, hopefully it'll work sometime.

I am not on Mac.
When the "Waiting for ADB" message comes up, it takes exactly 90 seconds for the adb shell command to succeed. So, that is when I simply give the "adb shell .......root.sh" command from the other window. It takes only a few seconds for that script to run.
In the other window, MotoWPNoMo tells me to hang on for some more time and then after another minute or so, I can see the characters CCCC following some ------. Then I have to press Enter to exit the application.
That's weird.
Download it again, make sure Antivirus is off, etc.
If it still bugs out contact the developer cause I haven't the slightest.
Can i use towelpieroot to get root?

Well, yes, but towelpieroot doesn't remove write protection, and still is (technically) a temporary root.
Maybe a combination of towelpieroot and motowpnomo could do the trick, but I haven't heard of it working.

I had the same issue. I took 4.4.4, so, I'll see if somebody cracks it.
If not, oh well. My phone is a lot more reliable without me flashing a ROM every other day
