Nandroid restore

Hey guys,
Hopefully you can help me, I've successfully rooted installed cwm and done a nandroid back up, I updated to the 2.3.5 update, I want to restore my files back to how they were with the 2.2 system, when I go to restore, should I restore boot, system, data, cache and sd-ext? I was under the impression this will reinstall the 2.2 rom

Use titanium backup: menu > more > extract from nandroid backup.
If you try use CWM, you will be stuck at bootlogo.

Is there a free piece of software that can do that? I have titanium back up on my phone, but this is not my phone im doing this on.

hey guys, I got a question about nandroid backup and since I have a huawei this seems to be the right thread
I'm about to get a new sd card class 10 to replace my current slower one..I want to know: if I make a nandroid backup with my clockwork recovery then I transfer it to the new sd card and plug it in my phone can I restore it from recovery? the recovery and the phone are the same, I will change just my sd card with the new one..it's too boring to reinstall everything so I'd like to know if I can do it this way

Thank you! I asked because I tried in the past to put a custom rom this way but the backup wasn't mine..the cook of the rom shared his nandroid backup to let you have the rom already set up..but it was a mess because after the nandroid was restored the recovery automatically formatted the user data on the sd and when the phone boots was a disaster..maybe because the versions of the recoveries were different or because the phone was different..

[Q] Correct procedures for doing a Restore via CWM

Do I need to do a full factory reset if I bootloop before trying to do CWM restore. I have been unsuccessful in making the restore stick. I have bootlooped a couple of times and the CWM restore would not successfully boot, it too kept bootlooping. SO I was wondering what the HECK am I doing wrong . I need to understand this before diving into the phone too much. Also having problems getting adb to install from the android sdk, but that is probably just not enough time spent looking at proper install instructions. That's what I get when I only have about 30 minutes a day to actually plug into the laptop and work on these things.
I found what I was looking for. Needed to be on working rom then restore works. Got it.

Or so I thought. Do I need to wipe personal data? Basically do the factory restore/reset? If yes then is that done through CWM or through settings menu? In my head I think doing it through CWM is the more appropriate place, then Get to working ROM then do a restore? Final question for this post, do I need to reflash the mods on their own or is that part of the restore.
I have not needed to officially complete a restore as I do not have much that is not already on sd card that I need to keep. But it is important to know how to do a restore in the event it is needed. It does get annoying when I bootloop and can't restore to my previously working settings, especially if it was a setup that I was particularly fond of.
How about this for steps?:
Wipe data
Flash EG04 Deo.zip
Wipe Dalvik
Reboot
Recovery mode
CWM Restore
Reboot

Okay, in trying to follow you on this. If you made a backup with CWM recovery when your phone was working, you should be able to flash it at any time. So let's say for some reason your phone starts bootlooping, you should:
Boot into recovery
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cashe
Flash your backup
IF your backup had any mods you WILL need to flash them after you flash the backup. If you don't the phone probably will bootloop..
Cross fingers
Reboot phone
Your back up should have been made with a working rom, so you shouldn't need to flash one before you flash the backup.
Someone else please jump in if I missed something!!

And here is even more fun. I was booting up into recovery every time for awhile because it didn't like something I flashed. So I erased all my data and had to reflash eg04 deo twice before it took. Right now rebuilding the phone. Everything seems to be working correctly now. I didn't even try the restore because it didn't work.
Back to the using restore issue. What I'm hearing is that I can flash restore at anytime, and maybe have to flash the mods (is 1-3 TB101 everything mod) if it doesn't boot properly. I use EG04 deo topped with TB 101 mod and ciscogee's i400 SuperSU zip.

That would be correct. I use TB's mods also, and anytime I restore a backup I have to flash the mod too. Not sure why, because the backup "should" have the mod in it also, but that's the way it is.

Today I successfully comlpeted my first restore. I flashed the restore and immediately went and flashed the TB mod and it worked. Very cool, and thanks a lot for the help.

[Q] Need Clarifications

Hi Guys!
Unlocked, flashed TWRP and rooted phone via twrp su for the first time in my life. Next move is installing custom PA rom. After browsing xda and other sites for many days to learn how to do it, basically, its just doing it in trwp recovery mode the factory reset, clearing cache and clearing delvic cache, then install rom and gapps then clear again then you are done. Is this right?
now, about factory reset, clearing cache and delvic cache in twrp, when you do this, does it in anyway delete or removes any data or setting in my phone just like when doing it in factory reset in the "Backup & Reset" in "settings" or just like what happens when you unlock/lock your phone? Or it does not really "erase anything"? Coz I do not know if I should backup first and if I must back up, I do not know which to backup or if I should have to make a full backup? Because I might not have to do backups after all for flashing PA custom rom and save time and internal space. About flashing back stock recovery, I DL the stock 4.2.2 rom from google dev. do I just flash recovery using this file or is there another specific stock recover file to DL and flash into the phone just like what I did when I flashed TWRP which I was able to DL from goo.im?
Hope you could help me with these clarifications. I did try to search and learn from different threads about this but I not 100% sure I understood it correctly. So I made this thread to make sure of facts and clarify these things.

I think you misundestood me. I am aware already of how to do it but I was just hoping on some clarifications as I have mentioned in my concerns.

I hope you would be considerate enough that I have no experience yet on this and I did some browsing and learning thru the guides and threads here in xda and other forums which is why I know the proceedure. I was only clarifying some things this matter that I have quoted now.
also, if someone would be kind enough to lead me to a link where I could find a stock recovery img. the only latest I have found is not JDQ39.

Perform a backup of your current ROM first as this will be replaced by paranoid and all app data will be lost when factory resetting.
I don't know where all the need to wipe caches comes from.
Wiping cache and dalvik cache will not erase any of your data
Factory reset will erase all user data (apps, app data, signed in accounts, phone contacts (Google contacts will be downloaded again when you sign into your Google account during setup of new ROM) and SMS messages etc.
Here is the process I usually follow.
Place new ROM & gapps on phone storage
Reboot into twrp
Perform a backup of my working ROM
Factory reset from main page in twrp (the one that says it won't touch your sdcard)
Flash ROM &gapps
Reboot
Once fully setup. Move my old backup from phone storage to pc

Thank you very much for the reply! So in making a backup, i could use the backup feature of twrp and this is enough and would make a FULL backup? Meaning all data, app, settings, vault app and files inside vault and go back into its original state as if nothing happened? Or i am wrong? Should i be making or using another backup method aside from the backup feature of the twrp?

The twrp backup is in essence creating a custom ROM of your phone. Exactly the way it currently is. Including all apps & their data.
If you flash a different ROM and decide you don't like it.
Restore the twrp backup and you will be right back as you was before flashing the custom rom.
If you factory reset (erasing all your data) then restore the backup. It will restore all your data etc...
It's just like a save game. If you mess up. Just reload from there
Note it's not the ultimate tool. If you mess with partitions that are not included in the backup then you might have problems. But for the average user just flashing custom roms . it will backup everything you need

Thanks again for the reply. Now another clarification. So when you say the twrp back is just like making a rom of its current status or like a saved game and if i did not want the new rom then i could revert back to this backed up rom. So does it mean that if i install PA rom then restore the backup from twrp, will it overwrite the PA rom and go back to my original rom that i have backed up or will it only restore the apps and settings, etc.?
Also about this twrp backup, will it also backup and return to old state when restored certain apps like notepad and the notes i have saved in this app. The same goes to the vault app and all the files i have hidden in this app, will it back it up as well and will be restored?

Correct. It will revert the entire ROM back to what it was.
Basically how your device is when you backup. Is how it will be when you restore.
All app preferences and settings. All apps. Widgets everything.
The only thing it doesn't alter is what's on your internal storage
And a point to note.
If you make changes to contacts or have received texts after the backup. It will revert them if you restore back to what they were when you backed up.
It is just like turning back the clock on your phone. Putting everything back to the point you backed up except files you have put on to the internal storage

I think you are saying that you will want to restore data on PA. You can backup/restore data with titanium backup or carbon.

Whoops yes didn't read fully. You get no choice with a twrp backup. It's just the full lot that gets restored. If you want specific apps to be restored onto a new ROM you need to make backups of them using something like titanium backup on your current ROM. Then restore them on your new ROM.
You can use app like SMS backup and restore for taking your SMS history into a new rom

If this is the case then titanium back up is what i am looking for? With titanium, is there a specific setting or option that i shld select or just press backup button? Sorry, its my first time to use titanium. Also, does the backup of the titanium also covers my notes on my "note everything" app as well as the files that i hid in my "vault" backup? Or should i make a separate backup using the apps on backup feature? And in the case of the "vault" app, should i unhide them first, backup with titanium then after restore just hide them again?

I'm not really sure how either of those apps work, but I'm guessing your notes will be fine. You might have to do some experimenting with the vault app. You should do a TWRP backup in addition to Titanium. In Titanium Backup, you just press the batch button in top right corner and "backup all user apps/data" or whatever it says.
As far as system settings go, they should be restored if you choose that option after logging into your Google account (only during initial setup).

Side note: In order for batch processing to work within Titanium, you must purchase the Pro key. Otherwise, you will have to backup and restore each app individually.

It still does batch, but it's a pain...

[Urgent] Unstable after flashing ROM update, nandroid restore doesn't fix it

I was on CM12 nightly, and it was working fine. I decided to flash the latest update, but before I did I performed a nandroid backup. Right after rebooting after flashing, I kept getting errors about Timely has stopped working, or Google Play Services has stopped working. In short, the phone was unusable.
So I restored my nandroid backup, and the first thing I got was that Nova Launcher has stopped working. I couldn't get it to launch into my home screen. I went with Trebuchet, and opened WhatsApp, and it says that the messages have been corrupted.
What is happening?
It's urgent because I'm flying off soon.

Did u change the kernel of your phone? Did u wipe dalvik cache and cache after installation?

I think it's related to this: when restoring the nandroid backup, it never gets to completion. Instead, somewhere around 2/3 through, it shuts off and reboots into recovery. So the restore isn't complete.
I'm thinking of switching my custom recovery to TWRP. I'm currently on CWM-based Recovery v6.0.4.7 Compiled by Xiaolu. Do I just download the new recovery in .zip and flash it as per normal?

It might just show it's 2/3 but in fact finish it anyways however I am not sure about this ;/ try to wipe everything (dalvik, cache, data) and then restore your backup. If that doesn't help do the wipes again and this time wipe system partition as well.

I think the backup is faulty. I tried using PhilZ recovery to restore, and the /data and /system restores were incomplete (I know because it says Done: 600/700MB). Now it's unbootable. I'm gonna try using Chenglu to restore, then get it partially working, then use TiBa to backup all my apps before clean-flashing the latest ROM.

Let me know what the outcome is

Ended up reflashing Chenglu's recovery to restore the nandroid backup, went in to backup everything with Titanium Backup, then flashed the latest ROM (wiped everything) and set up everything from scratch
Have moved on to Philz recovery now.

How to clean install a rom ?

im running mm pure 2.8 and i have a lot of stuff on my phone
how can can i wipe all those and reinstall the same rom ?
like installing a rom on a new phone

Easy.
Backup your apps if you wish with TiBu backup your SMS and call logs with SMS backup restore.
Backup data if you want to format phone memory or SD card.
Download new ROM you wish to use.
Boot into TWRP then wipe advanced select what you wish to do. If you wipe internal and external you will need to put the ROM you downloaded onto a USB and USB otg and flash the ROM through TWRP or remove sdcard put it in your PC and copy ROM to it and flash that way. Then you will have a fresh phone and then restore everything back.

so i can wipe every thing and install the rom from memory card without installing a fresh android M ?

So your running 2.8 TruPure ATM. Just download the new update of it from the thread. Then if you want to format your internal or external memory you will need to backup photos music videos etc if you want to keep it. And again like I said use SMS backup restore to restore sms'. Then use TWRP to wipe what you wish. Then reflash. But really if your not sure your better searching and reading up more before you jump into rooting and flashing custom ROMs etc if you don't understand the basics.

ive formated my internal , everything is good but the apps still there , i need to remove everything exactly like a new phone
