I would deny that request... Maybe Verizon is figuring out how deactivate root using app updates..

It's a trap!

I agree, that does not look correct at all. That would be like asking for root access when we use my verizon app, to see how much data we've used for the month

Well, that's interesting.
It suggests that asurion is adding apps prior to shipment.
Could you check to see whether it was installed as a system app (instead of in /data/app)?
Also it would be useful to look in the system manifest (.xml file in /data/system somewhere) to find out what privileges it has?
e.g. with network + other privs (device serial #) it could have already turned you in, as it is not normal for a "su" binary to be present in non - rooted devices, whether or not you granted the app root rights.
I am also curious if the boilerplate legal docs you signed with asurion have you granting consent for them to monitor you... mind looking that up?

Sure I can look that up.. I did dent that request

Disregard

Well, I'm guilty of not looking on my own device.
VMS.apk is part of the distro. Kinda odd that the package name starts with com.asurian. rather than com.vzw. or com.verizon. though - maybe Verizon farmed out the app development.
And apparently the packages.xml format has changed since the last time I looked at it, but the app manager lists privileges anyway. VMS.apk has "READ_LOGS" privs along with network connectivity. It could easily rat you out with along with a specific device ID even without root privileges.
Very strange that it would ask for root - it already has quite an extensive set of privileges.

It is a root app
before you root your phone it has root access. Once you root your phone it the application has to ask permission. I accepted mine because I was curious. Nothing happened.

Can no longer “check in" on FB

I know this sounds silly but it's actually really bothering me, mostly because I can't figure out why it's not working.
When I had my phone stock unrooted I could check in on FB.
When I was stock rooted I could still check in on FB.
I debloated, installed xposed and wanam, added a modded launcher and now I can't check in.
What crazy is I have done almost all the same changes to my wife note 3 and she still can check in.
Only thing we have done different is the debloating.
Curious if anyone else has broke this after debloating?
Thanks
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
And nothing else on phone appears to be broken. Gps is working for all other features
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Probably one of the apps you froze. If you get it figured out let us know. But not logging into FB might be considered a feature by some.

Is this via the FB app or browser? If browser make sure you haven't disabled javascript. I temporarily turn off javascript when browsing XDA so it doesn't constantly refresh but it also breaks things.

Check if there has been a update since you rooted that may have caused it. And try the normal, if you haven't already, reinstall and who's phone cache.

Facebook has been having issues lately. My wife had me log in yesterday to check something and we both couldn't post. Intermittent posting issues.

Ok so I figured out out has something to do with my settings. Because I logged into my wife's account on my device and the check in ability worked perfectly.
Now to try and figure out what setting is messed up on my device.

There are some things that will allow you to temp unroot while you use apps like that but for a complete work around there is no option. Rooting is seen as a security flaw and that is why banking apps have made it so they dont work if root is detected.

Like others said it depends on the bank.
Since the op is in the UK, im guessing it's barclays i'm pretty sure they are the only uk bank who blocks root users. @Mubz_C you should go to Halifax, it's better

You had to expect it. I mean root is a security issue on devices. Last thing you need is a root app that has a built in Key logger.

There is no way to hide Xposed, u'll have yo disable it. Magisk works well if u don't have Xposed.
Ps: don't know what detection method the bank app u reference uses.

Root and know

One more question.
I've rooted and disabled know, but I keep getting this message. What's this about?
Also, I get FCs on a lot of apps either after backing out, or after using them a while. I'm completely stock aside from root and adaway

In Titanium Backup look for something that says Verizon and shows that Shield. Select and uninstall. Believe mine was called that, but I don't know why yours wouldn't be the same. You can also in the interim go into your apps on your phone and find that Icon and long hold, App Info, and Turn Off until you find the App to force Uninstall on TiBu

Enable tethering on LG G3 D850

Got this from the G2 thread so I take no credit. Just tried it out and it works 100% thought I'd share.
What you'll need:
Root
Root explorer (or something similar)
SQLite editor
1. Activate the hot spot initially in the user interface settings, once it rejects to turn on the hotspot.
2. In root explorer goto data>data>com.android.provider.settings>system>databases>settings.db>systen
3. Press search button then type tether
4. Tap on tether_entitlement_check_state goto the value and edit to 0. Save then reboot phone.
All done. Below is the original G2 thread so make sure to give thanks over there.

It also depends if sprint uses the hot spot provision apk (or whatever they might call it). If they do you can use xposed and x tether to get around it by freezing the provision apk with titanium back up and installing xposed frame work that the x tether module. Below is how they did it for the Galaxy S5.

It all depends on how they tether. If they use an app to verify tether then no but if it's a simple number value ran against their systems like how AT&T is then yes. If you have tibu I'd do a search in there for the word tether and see if they use an app to verify you

No I don't believe that's it. I think thats part of your interface to turn hot spot on and off. Its an apk that you're looking for. They're usually have the name hotspot or tether in them.

[Q] Restart service after kill

Hi I want to start my service after it is killed by the user or the system.
I thought about creating a second app and monitor if the service is running and if not then start it.
The problem I have with that is
- I need two apps
- It drains more battery
I hope you can help me find the best solution for my problem
Yeah, I think if you override the onDestroy method on your service class, and then you can send a broadcast from there.
In your broadcast receiver you can start the service again.
Though i have never tried it myself, i think this should work.
Tell me how it goes

I believe there is no such way... otherwise android would be very insecure for malware that just does this . You can only restart your service once the user restarts your activity, there should not be another way (and START_STICKY for the system of course). And please don't do two apps which listen for each other, if the user willingly kills your service they usually have a reason and expect that your app is not working right until they restart it.

Well I found the solution.
When device admin is enabled the app can't be force-stopped or uninstalled. Then the user can only stop the service and then the onDestroy methode is called so then I can restart the service again. Tanks guys
