It would be nice but it's doubtful. The amount of work required to get it working on the PC via bluetooth is pretty crazy but we can always hope

If someone would make an app for ps3 controllers, it'd be great. For now it should work perfectly with a Wii Classic Controller using pikipirs' app.
Can't wait for this...

FFVII... hands down my all time favorite game... its in a league of its own and now it will soon be in my pocket!
Now that we have Playstation 1 emulation, maybe we can have N64 emulation as well. I want to play Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time sooo bad too. Oh and Pokemon Stadium/Snap as well. Those were classic games.
call me a skeptic, but i dont see how this can work out so well for the n1. Yes it had plenty of processing power, but with our touch screen I think the controls will be an issue.

Well I have the game on disc, and I never really delved into PSX/PSOne emulation, so I'll have to find out how to get the game in a format the program will read.

Since Yongzh is helping out, it'll support Input Method, meaning you can use a wiimote classic controller for full control and full, uncluttered screen

I really do not see why people are so excited to use a Wii remote with the N1.
That means you have to set the n1 up to act like a TV and stand back from it. The screen is way to small in my opinion for that kind of use. Plus you have to carry around a wii remote also... Portability is completely out the window.
When there is that much trouble you got to ask yourself, is this useful? Yes it can be done, but why?
The last "great" emulation experience I've had on a smart phone was with my old Tilt. The specs on it were just powerful enough to run SNES emulators without any problems, it had a great d-pad for games, and you could map the keyboard's keys to act as button. Without all 3 of these things I have found emulators to be completely pointless.
If I was travelling on the bus/train/whatever, I might not be too keen on using the wii controller.
Since I only get the odd time now and again to play at home or work, I'd much rather use the controller than mess around with on-screen controls and dodgy multitouch. It's no hassle at all to set up.

Are you serious? You do realize people aren't swinging their Wii-motes at their phones right? We're just using bluetooth to use the Wii-mote as a hand held D-pad......I'm doing it right now with my phone sitting not more than 4 inches in front of me....I don't get your complaint?

Totally agree that it's awesome. I travel a lot and I like to play the occasional game in my hotel. I would prefer to play on a big screen but I'll take what I can get.
Hi Guys
Had my Atrix for over a week now and I must admit although its ok I'm a bit disappointed on the 3d shooter front, not down the speed, Quake 2 rips along at 50 70 fps and looks lush, but heres the but & a big one I have.
Other 3d shooters use the on screen thumb stick, but when docked using the keyboard and mouse, neither can be used for moving or shooting in the games, ie BIA, Nova etc.
Has anyone managed to get this working so that the keyboard etc. controls the screen or is their any other device that can do this, Ive tried the Zeemote using bluez apk.
Can anyone put me out of my misery as I'm looking at the games on TV but not being able to control them on the TV.
ATB
Paul
Interesting point. I never used the phone that way, but I think that is something that need to be addressed. I wonder if its the game or the phone that needs the fix.
I dont think those games are written to be WASD and mouse controlled, but since more and more phones have HDMI outs as well as USB periphericals, it is something that needs to be considered.
Thanks for your comments, and as games for these now more powerfull phones are becoming more complex, have the ability to use keyboard/mouse oor zeemote type controller for thumb stick would be great. Can't believe motorola missed this obvious requirement. Especially as they have a games & work pack. Could anyone here write an app to allow this contol in games?
Any thoughts as to how it could be done would be great.
Thanks in hope lol.
I don't think it's possible for an app to "universally enable" this. I believe it would have to be implemented in the the actual game app.
Interesting idea though.
Oh yeh, you can now actually PLAY the games and the Xoom is officially supported. Touch controls are a bit dodgy so i was kinda hoping some clever person might get PS3 or Xbox controllers working but until then the official wireless controller is due out very soon.
Anyway, get it here: http://t.co/BIFyGpDR and enjoy.

Yeah, i'm gonna see if I can get the ps3 controller working with it, that would be awesome =]
My wired 360 controller through an OTG cable worked perfectly. This is a huge deal. Played split second and it looked great, lag wasn't an issue, I am impressed.
Got the app, we'll see what comes of this. Touchscreen is gonna have to go for me, not a fan of touchscreen controls especially when there's physical controller options. Tried a Saitek 6 button and a PS2 controller/adapter through the OTG... both let me use the analog stick and d-pad but no other buttons. Looks like it's time to bite the bullet and get the wired 360 controller.
Does the 360 controller work with navigating the menus, pausing and all that? And does the Xbox button do anything with OnLive?

Yeah it has full functionality built in with the wired controller. When you press the Xbox button it brings up the Onlive menu. It works REALLY well honestly
I'm guessing that OnLive will cotton on to that eventually and release an update to make all controllers except their own incompatible.
Having said that, has anyone tried using a wired controller with the USB adaptor that let's you use it with a PC? I'm guesting that only works with drivers but still......
The app actually runs ok when using my MiFi which i was surprised at. Although with a ping of anything over 70ms the controller lag gets a bit annoying.

After a few days with the app I'm pretty impressed. I gave the $10 a month plan a try so I could really get a good idea (plus compare against the PC version.)
The wired 360 controller works flawlessly and I agree, I could see them blocking the non-OnLive controller once it's released, or if they were smart after a little more adoption. The flawlessness goes away once you fire a game up though. There was some lag, and trying to play a couple multi-player shooters was dreadful. Playing these same games on the PC with the same controller was a noticeable improvement (of course, but just pointing that out).
Games look great on the Xoom but when I run it to the TV it's pretty low quality. Tried a few TVs, went through all kinds of TV settings, nothing made it look any better than PSX quality. Actually some PSX games have looked better on tube TVs to me. Could be a Xoom limitation, version 1 of the app, or a little of both. I could do without the mirroring on my tablet.
Sweet, Borderlands is included in the $10/month plan! Oh wait, here's a message that it won't run on tablets...
OnLive has some work to do with this, but it's very ambitious and I'm 100% behind this idea. They'll have some challenges now since they've gone to having a micro-console and PC/Mac apps to also having multiple Android tablets and phones and Apple tablets and phones. As far as this app on the Xoom, I would hold off on spending money with OnLive until the app gets a little better.
i like snes via ps3 controller on xoom - hooked up to tv - so this would be pretty nice too I bet!
Got my wired xbox controller today and it works brilliantly as previously confirmed. Just gotta hope OnLive don't go and nobble it's compatibility cos it was £25 cheaper than the official one.
Still, if they do, i can always use it with my xbox/PC......lol
Might actually buy a few play-passes now. Just gotta hope that 3 somehow manage to improve the latency on their MiFi so i can play on the go. Dreaming?

Has anyone got the Xbox 360 wireless controller to work with the OnLive app on the Xoom?
I'm using the official Motorola OTG cable with an official Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver (http://goo.gl/Rhi0q). The combination works brilliantly for emulators like SNES9X but it doesn't seem to work with OnLive. It registers the left analog stick, the start button (goes back to the Xoom home screen), and buttons A & B which seem to be the equivalent of Esc on the keyboard.
If there's no trick or an app I could use to map the controller to keyboard commands, etc. I might have to get a wired 360 controller specifically for OnLive.

I think the D-pad on the OUYA controller is clumsy.
For example, I've tried navigating XBMC only to find myself pulling up side menus. Its also a bit of a nightmare typing using the popup keyboard with the controller.
Now i use my PS3 controller with the PS3 wireless keypad. The keypad also has a button to enable touch like control.

Yeah I feel the same way it. It feels cheap like not worth the 50 that I spent on it. I'm trying real hard to think of a reason to keep the ouya controller since I hate to return items but it's not looking good
I personally like the PS3 better just because the dpad. I find I can get around easier and retro games are more responsive. I hate the circular dpads. Either give me a plus layout or the PS style layout.

I got it and am definitely liking it more hopefully I'll come up with a way to get this to recognize the ps3 as another ouya controller
I hope to use a PS4 controller an the Ouya to get everything.
Edit: I like the playstation layout better and if the PS4 controller works on the Ouya including the touchpad it could be a full replacement for people who like me want that layout but people who want the "X-Box" layout could use the Ouya controller.

No, you're not! I really like this controller! I think the touchpad is an awesome feature that, while isn't perfect, really makes using the OUYA easy. Personally the only thing I would fix with it is "Clicking" with the touchpad is a bit hit and miss. Also if there was a 2 finger tap-and-drag, that would make using it even better.
Personally I won't have any other controller hooked up unless I need more than the 2 OUYA controllers I have.
If only the D-Pad was a bit more responsive and less sticky then I would agree that it is a decent controller as the actual shape and feel of it is quite comfortable.
I could be hallucinating but did anyone notice slightly more input lag using the PS3 controllers?

Of all the different keyboards/mice/controllers I've tried, I know that your set up is got to be the best way to do it! Especially if you are a power user on X BMC...
Is there any way you can share with us instructions on how to pair the PS3 keypad to the ouya? I've looked all over the forums but can't seem to find one... Lots of info on the controller, but nothing on the keypad. (I've tried using the ps3 Controller pairing instructions on the keypad and have had no success)
BTW, I have the official Sony Wireless Keypad model# CECHZ1UC
I'm not using the sony one. I have an old Logitech keyboard with touchpad sold as a PS3 addon. Has some PS3 buttons on it but is mostly just bt keyboard.

Yes, If this product can smoothly run some of the games I have downloaded, then I should be picking one up. I'm sure it going to be hard to download games with such limted storage, but hopefully someone can showcase some quality android titles. It basically has OUYA specs; however, with a more powerful CPU. I want to buy one, as it would be my first Nexus product. Some cool titles I would want to see runnig: MC5, GT racing as Asphalt 8 I've seen, and Need For Speed Most Wanted.
As a regard to emulators, It has 8gb of storage, good luck!

Yeah, definitely. It outscores the GeForce ULP in the Tegra 3 by 2x-10x depending on the benchmark, and specifically handles the higher resolution (like the 1080p at which these devices tend to run) much better. Given the fact that even the Ouya was able to emulate up through the N64 reasonably well I think that the Nexus Player will make a great emulation device.

Oh man, thanks for the reply. I was looking to emulate PSP games more than anything but I guess up to N64 and maybe Dreamcast is fine as well.
I use my N64 and SNES emulators and they work great!! It runs better than my Xbox one which sucks at most things.
Here are some pictures of it on my TV using Super GNES and Mupen64

how many controllers does the adapter support at one time?
I'm using the PCE.emu and Neo.emu and they work fine. Only thing that makes me crazy is that sideloaded apps are too large for the TV display, some menu options are difficult to read. Does anybody know if there is a way to adjust the resolution for sideloaded apps so they fit the TV screen properly?

The listing on Amazon says that it supports up to 4 controllers with the 'direct input' mode, however I tried using the direct input mode and it seemed to not want to use the d pad and all of the buttons performed the same action. Using 'xinput' (I think this just emulates the Xbox controller input) everything mapped perfectly and all was well, the bad news is that it can only do 1 controller at a time using this method, so you'd need 1 usb adapter per controller. Also I have only 1 Wii U Pro controller so I don't have any way to test if multiple controllers even work with the direct input mode, it's worked perfectly with 'xinput' so I haven't moved it from there.
Its hard to see there but on the side there's a toggle switch that lets you pick between 'dinput' and 'xinput'.
How does one install the emulator? Do I need to do this over adb ? If so, how can I download an apk from the play store?
I can't get Super GNES to work. I install it and it says there is a new version on the play store and for me to download it. Well I downloaded it from the play store so I don't see how its not the newest version. Where are you getting your version of Super GNES?

If the app you want to "sideload" is in the normal Play store, all you have to do is load up the Play store on your computer then click install and select your Nexus Player as the device. That simple. You'll also want to install Chainfire's Sideload Launcher app from the Play store as well, as that makes accessing non-android tv optimized apps easier:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en
If you have an apk you'd rather install manually, you'll have to use adb and an a cable or use ES File Explorer (or equivalent) to transfer the apk from your computer/etc over wifi. There are already a few topics in these threads that discuss how.

I got the same error with the (non-free) non-lite version of GNES. Tried the (free) lite version and that works fine (version 1.5.4). I'm not too experienced with sideloading, but perhaps the non-free nature of the full version of SuperGNES is the issue? The free version sucks though, since you can't load saved states, so it seems I can't continue my progress even though the ROM in question has save functionality.
Just wanted to share my experiences so far, since this is one of the bigger reasons I bought the NP. I've managed to load NES.emu, 2600.emu, MAME4Droid (0.37b5), and Mupen64 AE so far.
Installing apps:
Like many have suggested, I was able to load a couple of apps like ES Explorer and NES.emu through the Google Play web site and selecting the NP as the installation target. However, MAME and a couple of other apps would not install this way, so I have to sideload Aptoide and use that to install the remaining apps. Note that since no web browser is available, I had to use another tablet to identify the stores where apps could be found, and add them manually before selecting apps and installing them.
Navigation:
For the most part, the remote suffices, but it's not perfect. I installed ChainFire's Sideload Launcher, as only NES.emu shows up in my apps menu on the home screen. However, I happened to own a Nyko Playpad (not the Pro) from a while ago that I never really used. While I can't recommend it as a great gaming controller, it does have one key feature that turns it from run-of-the-mill control pad to ultimate NP utility. It contains a switch that allows you to switch between HID, iCade, Mouse, and App modes. It's the Mouse setting that makes this controller truly useful, because without it, I couldn't navigate around MAME to set up my control pad, or navigate around Mupen64 to quit out of a game (how else are people achieving this? Just quitting out?) Basically, to really set up many of the emus properly, you need some kind of mouse input, so it's nice that I can switch the Playpad back and forth between HID and Mouse modes as needed.
Performance:
Obviously, NES.emu and 2600.emu are not really demanding, so they work "flawlessly" (as in, any problems are due to the emulators, not the NP.) I also chose the smaller MAME, and nothing in there really pushes the system too hard. Street Fighter II Turbo ran as fast as expected. The only really challenge to the system was Mupen64. I'm happy to say that it ran everything that it was capable of running at full frame rate, and the only hiccups were related to the emulator itself. It successfully ran Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, and Mischief Makers. It could not Blast Corps or Bomberman 64.
All in all, I can say that things work well, provided you have the right equipment. For me, the mode switch feature of the Nyko Playpad is indispensable, although if you have a bluetooth enabled mouse device, that will suffice. Things can only get better. I haven't tried PPSSPP yet, but that will be my next test.
Thank you so much sjj.
