[Q] battery callibration

I installed Batery Callibration in my Galaxy Note .. Love this app...... Increase so much my life battery
One question: How often I Calibrate My Battery??

1. After flash or update ROM.
2. When replace or pull out & put in battery for whatever reasons.
3. I do calibration about once a week.
I always drain battery till it is 1% before plug in charger after hit the calibration button.
Battery time is acceptable to me...15+ hrs with normal use (stock ICS rooted).

Thank you very much for the tips. I Have Rocket Room V07 and Speedmod kernel 3.3. With 3g and Wifi turn on all day, my battery last 24 hs.....Very good for me

A question for both of you and anyone else who's using such a tool: which battery calibration app do you use? Any views on how good (or not) these apps are?

Never. That app does NOTHING. You have fallen victim to the placebo effect.
Wiping battery stats does NOTHING on any Android device other than change the behavior of Settings->Battery. It does nothing with regards to fuel gauge calibration.
The fuel gauge chipset in our device does not require calibration and calibration techniques cannot be applied to it. (With one exception - resetting it after a reboot on low battery can have a temporary positive effect - but you can just wait a few hours for it to converge.)

As stated above - they are 100% useless and worthless on our device and any other Samsung Galaxy S1/S2 family device.

To enthropy512, thank you very much for your hardwork for us here in xda. How about a tread that says, after a battery full, you take out the battery for 3 mins then put it back again.

Battery Calibration, try following the procedure stated therein and verify by yourself if it works.
At least you have nothing to lose but very poor battery performance.
You guys should have ever heard of an alternative battery product named MUGEN that selling original and extra sized batteries world wide including range of Galaxy batteries. They also supply a battery calibration app on Play Store regardless phone models but it's for rooted phone only. If this app does nothing they wouldn't bother wasting their time developing it.
Another thing is to investigate what apps or services prevent your phone from going into deep sleep, also try freezing apps or services you aren't using.
Those are my tricks for having battery performance improved.

Your phone had to be root to use battery calibration

i dont trust any battery callibration app or battery power saving app
i only used cpu spy and betterbatterystats
my point is check ur device, does it goes to deepsleep everytime screen turned off. if it doesnt check using bbs what apps making ur device turned on/wake ur device. im very satisfied with this method. 1x full charge for 24 hr for my daily use and only 24 % battery drained for 24 hr if u didnt use ur device at all(standby)

Battery drain

Hello!
I rooted my phone as of yesterday, I charged it all night and when I took it off today the battery went from completely full to dead withint 3 hours of no use. I did not use the phone at all.
Any ideas?

If you just rooted your phone, you should not have battery drain... Try to temporarily disable root (with Voodo OTA RootKeeper for exemple)

Use better battery stats to nail down which app is causing the drain

Did you try wiping your battery stats in CWM - advanced?
There's also an app, Battery Calibration, on the Play Store that may help with that.
Not uncommon to get weird battery readings after changing rom's or rooting.

+1 that app will tell you exactly what's bogging down your cpu, and which apps prevent proper deep sleep mode.

This is soooo strange. Not a normal behavior!! Before you root your phone, how the battery lifes goes??? Are you in a stock or modified ROM? Wich kernel are you using?
I faced this issue a couple weeks ago. Android S.O was the culprit and it was driving me crazy. I was using a custom ROM (RemICS-UX). I solved the problem returning to stock and erasing everything, then i reflashed the ROM and the kernel, in my case Devil3 0.79. If you want to give it a try!!
After that my batterys life is pretty fine, during at least 2 days!

Go through a couple more full charge cycles, if android os usage isn't very high then, it should be fine.
Edit: on second thought, draining the battery without use in 3 hours is extreme, and would suggest that the CPU is running at max speed all the time. If it doesn't solve itself or improve a lot after a few more charge cycles, reflash everything.

Did you just root your phone or did you flash another ROM? Some ROMs have horrible battery life.

The stock battery usage monitor (Settings>Battery) should be enough to tell you what ate your battery. If it's a particular app you're running, try disabling that and see if it improves. If the usage is mostly "Android System", "Mobile standby", or something like that, then you have a tougher problem. The free app CPU spy will let you know if something is keeping your CPU usage high. Better battery stats is pretty cheap and will give you much more specific information.

+1s for BetterBatteryStats and waiting a few charge cycles before judging/debugging your battery drain, especially if you changed your kernel to root or flashed a rom.
I find that after flashing a new rom or kernel my phone, the battery level shown in recovery mode is higher than in the rom's settings, for a couple days. (You can see batt level in semaphore's recovery). I once dud a lazy search about this and found nothing, but I figure that's what is meant about waiting a few cycles gir your battery to calibrate.

There's no such thing as "calibrating your battery". It's a myth. Wiping your battery stats file doesn't do anything other than reset the tracking of what's using power. It doesn't magically fix your battery meter. Flashing a new ROM doesn't leave left over data, again a myth.
Battery life is never consistent after flashing because your ROM needs to "settle" for a day or two first and during that time your ram and cpu usage are all over the place.
The rest is a placebo effect.

I think I may know what is happening to you as of now. Try to bring up the Battery settings if you are on ICS and take a screenshot and post it here. If my 'spider' senses are correct, your phone did not go to 'sleep' and remained awake.

Currently I'm experiencing a huge battery drain too. I used both tools which where mentioned here in this thread and when the drain occours, CPU spy reports that my SGS didnt go in deep sleep at all with turned off display, it was at least at 100mhz all the time! I attached 2 logs from better battery stats and it seems like the NotificationService is causing it?
I'm using JW6 PDA JW4 Modem and JVC CSC in combination with the MNGB 0.5.8 Kernel.

Guys please help out a new N4'er like myself. I'm stock right now and the number of Roms are kinda overwhelming. I'm only interested in battery life. I'm not in the mood to go flashaholic searching for that one ROM.

The most important thing is the kernel and the apps you have installed.
Find the ROM with the features you like and flash a battery friendly kernel. I currently use Matrix kernel because the lower CPU idle makes the phone sip battery while the screen is off, leaving you more for actual use.

There is no "best Rom" for battery. It's all in how you use your phone, what apps you use, the signal strength in your area and of course the kernel you flash and how you set that kernel up.
100 different people could reply with the Rom they feel is best for battery and which kernel and you still may have different results than they do

From what I've learnt the kernel directly dictates battery life.
but I've personally opted for lean roms. If you're using a heavy rom and frequently putting load on the processor surely the battery will burn down fast. I've been using rasbeanjelly bouncing between franco/trinity and the battery life has been awesome for me.
Btw franco's r121 is godlike for me right now, in terms of both performance and battery life.

Im using liquidsmooth which comes with matrix kernel in the official release.
Im getting very good battery life probably because the cpu min is lowered to 288mhz instead of the normal 384.
Performance on the rom is great also with antutu scores over 20000
Ive tried francos, for some reason it didnt quite work for me but it is very popular because of the great balance between battery and performance. Youll get even more battery life out of faux and if you want blazing fast speeds try out trinity

Battery depends on the kernel, not on the rom.

Battery life depends on a number of factors, kernel being one of them. If you set your screen brightness at maximum high, you will see battery drain like water down the toilet. Screen brightness is the single major factor. Kernels don't really matter. It's the apps you install and run on your phone that can kill battery life. Apps like Facebook will suck down your battery like there's no tomorrow. Auto sync'ing and pushing and pulling data to and from your phone will make your battery life go down really fast. GPS and using google maps can contribute mightily to your battery woes as well.
To keep your phone from dying, just get an external battery pack and charge your phone as necessary. I have a 5400 mAh pack that can charge my n4 at least a couple of times. I never worry about running out of battery and I use my phone the way it's supposed to be used.

Battery does depend on the rom...
For example a linaro compiled rom will require less work of the cpu to move the os due the optimization.
Also some rom have init.d scripts that can help battery life a lot and there is the possibility that some programs like systemUI can have a little bug that the user dont know about it but its draining battery

You are completely wrong. As said before, battery life depends on a lot of things. The kernel is a big factor, but not everything. The way u use ur cpu, the scripts u apply or ur build.prop configurarion can be very decissive.
IMHO paranoidandroid 3.1 is the most battery saving ROM

Battery drains fast and problems with charger

Hi,
after I overclocked my device and used custom ROM to reduce lag the battery was drains fast and overheat and I used the factory image(in android 4.3) to get the stock kernel and stock ROM my device not overheat anymore but still drains fast and the charger sometimes when my device is on charges slooowly and sometimes while it plugged in it don't charge it decrease 1 percent and stop charging while playing any game and the charger smell like burnt and it charge first while my device is off but that didn't happen to me before the overclock,
I want to know I there are way to increase battery life and fix the charger problem,

A Few Apps For Battery Life
There are a couple things I would do, first is you need to monitor what is draining the battery. One thing to note though is your OC is obviously going to drain the battery quicker than stock and your governor setting could also affect this a lot. I am guessing your custom ROM has a non-stock kernel with it, if not I would recommend Franco's Kernel (r75 is the latest) and he even has an app that will keep you updated and flash for you (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=en) there is also a free version of that. Franco's paid app has a built in power settings option that lets you adjust power usage per app that could be extremely useful in your case. However I would do some monitoring first and make sure a live wallpaper or a hardware monitor is not draining more battery than you think it is.

Just restart your N7. The battery draining issue would go away for about 5 days. This trick works for me

infinite battery life
Try using the infinate battery life script, if you are rooted. This can help increase the battery life by far. Hope this helps.

If you want more battery, root you're device and install a battery life script. If anyone wants to link I can give it to them. If this does not help and you done to root the device install a external battery life booster from the play store. Hope this helps if not pm me or reply. Good luck, if your device does not last at least a full day without charging turn down the brightness settings on the device as this will improve battery life. Another way would be to close any unwanted apps and 3g/wifi as this can drain battery usage. Hope this helps?

You are just asking us to just keep the phone on standby, turn off everything, even the apps we are using even those we need to be kept running and even turn off the internet, pull down the brightness to zero so that we can't see anything out under the sun. Then what do we do with the phone? Throw it away into the storeroom or sell it?

You could sell it if you like. I know where you are coming from but if you just turned up the brightness when you are using it then you can turn it down when you are not. This could help.

Don't you think the phone will be on standby with the display *off* when I am not using it? How will the brightness level matter then?

I found out the battery lasts more then 24 hours when on a low to medium brightness setting. Even when you are not using it. Why don't you take a test to see if the battery would last more longer if it was on a higher or lower brightness setting when you are not using the phone. My battery life can last more than a day. So see for yourself.

I can't imagine how battery brightness can affect battery life when screen is off, I mean, no matter if you have brightness at maximum because screen is off.

C'mon man. We don't need to test because we know the phone is not stupid. What you are experiencing is called a "placebo" effect dude. Use your brains and don't act so noobish, no offense but this is getting irritating. I too made the battery last for 2 and half days when I did not use the phone at all because I was damn sick.
For improving battery life, try keeping the CPU clock to lowest (300MHz) when the phone is on standby. By default, the minimum freq. on LP is set to 787MHz unlike that of on KK which is 300Mhz. Just revert it back to 300MHz as min and set the governor to interactive. Or, ever heard of "deep sleep?" That's the best battery saving technique.

Btw guys u can use GREENIFY app for saving battery and also xposed modules like Boot Manager.

Or flash a custom kernel which can sometimes make the battery last longer. This depends if you are already running cm or any other Rom with a custom kernel.
