[Q] No Luck with Mounting Storage...help - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I complained about the device having no UMS so one of the people told
me to root my phone and download Multi Mount SD-Card. I did that last night but I just can't get it to work. When I plug my phone USB into the my PC, sometimes it shows up as Removeable E for a bit but when I click on it, it tells me to insert disk.Do I need an OTG cable?
The whole reason I want this is that my Ford Sync Stereo system in the car needs to see the device as Mass Storage to access it properly to play music files. Some people have told me to use bluetooth and yes it plays the files but I can;t play by vouice command unless it is USB and sees the device as a mass storage device (drive).
Any help would be great please.
Thnx Dane

[REQ] Mass storage toggle app

I have a request, I know the TP2 have native Mass storage driver (ie the MicroSD can act as a flash drive), normally this depends on the Phone detecting a PC before activiating that feature.
However, I have a MP3 player that accept USB flash drive, but plugging my phone into the player won't trigger the mass storage activiation.
Does anyone know how to toggle it manually somehow somewhere? or can write a small/quick app to do that?
Thanks in advance
The option is under All settings, connections tab, USB to PC, then Disk Drive.
Give that a go...
I use mine in my car which has a usb port that reads flash drives and just plays songs via folder selection, however it doesnt charge from it.
There is an app I use called wm5torage that should work for what you want. It toggles the usb connetion as a mass storage device. Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Doesn't work, as I mention that depends on the Phone detecting the connection as a PC before it would activate the Mass storage feature (you can tell because the storage card disappear from file explorer) and my phone just won't detect my MP3 player as a PC

USB Mount

Not sure what fixed it, but the CM on G1 allowed me to mount my SD using my car stereo's USB (JVC KW-AVX820). Native G1 and none of the 3 USB modes on the Vibrant work. Any idea what file system feature did that?
Reuven
Same here. My Genesis Coupe keeps showing either 'Media Connection Error' or 'No Media Connected'. It even rebooted my nav/stereo this morning and then froze it on the FM screen with no audio. Had to turn the car off, then back on for it to be fine. Not sure why the Vibrant would have issues like that.
Actually, with my G1, I hadn't got USB Mount notifications for awhile. Other rom's however worked fine. My wife's MyTouch works no problem, so I know it shouldn't be the car.
I don't know anything about car computer usb, but I'll share one experience I had working with a copier at work: USB running in a mode that simulates a USB thumb drive works. USB running in a mode that shows a micro SD card READER (as opposed to a single solid-state unremoveable drive) does not. That discrepancy could be responsible for what you are experiencing.
Make sure after you select mass storage you then mount the usb (its a two step process)
But also, it still might fail as I've noticed when you do this the device is actually mounted as well (oh that glorious 16gb of onboard space!) so the stereo might not have any idea of where it should be looking.
You need to go into settings and enable USB debugging
I think it's under settings application development
that didn't do it
Try disabling USB tethering

Generic USB

Is it possible to develop a compatible generic USB driver for our beloved SSGS? It would be cool to just plug in your SSGS to any PC or car stereo and get recognized without downloading the driver first. SSGS is incompatible with everything...
mass storage doesn't work for you?
Yeah was gonna say that too....
The only time I've loaded drivers was to use odin other than that I've just plugged it in??
It does'nt work with car stereo ;(
Most MP3 audio system thingy uses generic driver so... it doesn't work. Sorry, I guess it works on other PCs with the mass storage switched on but not the car radio systems or similar systems. I have a Honda Jazz/Fit - debug mode, mass storage, media player mode... don't work. It says "unsupport".
Moto Milestone is compatible with most MP3 audio system. Is there a way to extract that driver?
I'm pretty sure that is not a driver problem but something that relates to the USB-Controller in the SGS. It is a different one than the one in the Milestone/Droid and thus the driver's won't work. It also means that a "native" mass storage mode is most likely impossible
I do think the mass storage on sgs is generic mass storage like every commercial USB drive. None of my Windows machine requires special drivers to mount the partitions on PC.
Anyway, drivers are supposedly to be loaded on host, not the phone. Even if you wrote a driver which works, you will have to find ways to load into your audio system, which is likely not possible.
P.s. Upon selecting mass storage when prompted, did you pull down the notification bar and click on mount? Otherwise it would be just an unloaded drive to the host.

[Q] What can you do with the USB port?

Is there any way to use the full size USB port to copy files from an android phone or digital camera to the tablet? I've plugged in my G2 with CM7 and put it into mass storage mode but I don't seem to be able to access files on the phone through Astro.
I know the port can charge my phone and if you format a jump drive or external hard drive in FAT32 it will connect to that but its frustrating that the one think I would realistically use it for most often doesn't work.
Buddy of mine plugged his portable external drive to it that was full of movies to watch. And the Media Player found them all. Make great for trips if you wanna watch movies and such on it.
I'd love to eventually plug my HP TV tuner in there...

Android M Adoptable Storage Question

Hey everybody, surprise surprise...I found an issue with the new adoptable storage feature in Android M on our beloved nexus player. I used an OTG cable to connect a 16GB Sandisk flash drive and the player recognized it and I was able to format it as internal storage.
I then installed The Walking Dead game to test out performance. I was actually surprised to find the performance to be more than acceptable so I downloaded all the episodes of the game. While the last episode was downloading my nexus player said it lost connection to my wifi. I checked and my wifi was running fine on every other device in my house so I figured I'd restart the nexus player to see if that cleared up the issue. It rebooted and I was connected again, however this is where I found the problem...
The game had disappeared as if it had never been installed. It wasn't on the homescreen or in the settings under Apps. It had completely vanished. Even under the Storage settings, the flash drive showed 14GB instead of the 12.9GB it was showing after I had installed the game originally.
I reinstalled the game and then restarted the nexus player to test. It happened again.
Has anyone else encountered this? If so, is there a reason that things just disappear after a restart? Is it a user error?
Please help if you can as I was excited about the possibility of actually having an adequate amount of storage on this device. 8GB is a joke...
It seems your USB is it write protect mode. You may need to have it forget the storage, reformat it on a computer, and then reinsert it into the nexus player. Ive encountered that issue on other operating system, especially if I formatted a drive so it seems android isn't an exception
I'm having all sorta of issues with external and internal storage. I have a USB otg cable with multiple ports I have 32gb flash drive setup as internal storage and a 1tb harddrive as external storage. When I plugged the flash drive in it connected fine, and set it up, then connected the harddrive and it instantly said the flash drive is not connected. So for some reason it kicked the flash drive off. I got the both to work by disconnecting the flash drive then reconnecting it. If I restart my nexus player, the it will boot up and the hard drive won't remount to it. But if I disconnect the power cable then it reboots and the hard drive stays mounted. But settings always says its not responding and asks me to exit it or wait.. Soo buggy. Pretty ****in redicolous its been around this long and its been buggy from the start.

For me everything is working, except for one issue - that might be happening to everybody: Once I reboot the Nexus Player, the USB storage doesn't automatically get re-mounted. I need to physically remove the USB stick and/or OTG cable and connect it again (while the Nexus Player is turned on). Since I usually don't reboot or shut off my Nexus Player, this is acceptable, but it's still not great. If this is designed properly, it should automatically remount it on every boot, as long as its connected.

I'm using a 64 GB drive (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LLEODCK) with this OTG cable (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J631SU8) and don't see any issues. The problem that I am facing is, Nexus player doesn't recognize the drive if I connect it via a USB hub.

Is the hub powered or non-powered?
