hey guys,
i have a stock s4.
i rooted it.
then uninstalled samsung keyboard.
installed custom keyboard.
and unrooted it.
then encrypted it. (i know it was a bad idea, sorry.)
now/ when my phone boots, it asks for password without giving me a keyboard to type it.
im guessing security restriction dont allow custom keyboards to appear before unlocking encryption.
pls tell me a workaround way to fix this problem.
much grateful.
if i cant reconver my data, at least tell me how to get my phone back in working condition.

yeah, but i if i do stuff via download mode or recovery mode, i will loose my data right?
if possible, i dont want loose my data. only if possible. if no choice, then i dont mind.
so how do i know if i can enter download mode or recovery mode? pls help me. i think i can, but im not sure.
i was think of using an OTG cable with a usb keyboard. u think it will work?
The keyboard might also not work as the phone would have nowhere to take the typed characters from. It's 50-50 chance.
For recovery/download mode, turn on the phone by holding volume power and home buttons and yes that would delete everything.

can anyone tell me a source/link for any custom/stock rom in .tar format so that i can flash it with odin?
.zips can only be flashed with recovery and i prefer odin.
i need it desperately.
ps:
also, can anyone tell me if any recovery can detect external micro sd card or OTG cable storage?

if you don't touch Firmware. you can go Recovery Mode and Factory Reset.
Shutdown.
Hold Power + Volume Up. when boot up keep hole Volume up and release Power.
you will enter Recovery Mode. Choose wipe data/factory reset.
if not work, try to reflash firmware.
Next time you removed the launcher you can push back the apk.

Push back
-Find/download .apk
-Enable usb debuging and Use adb push
Or copy .apk from ex-sdcard to /system/apps
I give u the "factory reset" choice coz it's easy way to fix. And i'm not sure cause is launcher missing. But this choice u will lose yr installed apps.

The Fact is you don't need to use the same touchwiz as original but you need any launcher with the same name.

I've already described how to get into recovery mode in the former post.
-shutdown
-hold power+up
-release power after reboot but keep hold up
- wipe data/reset factory default.
If can't , try to reflash the firmware.

Hello, and apologies if this is posted somewhere in the forum already, but there are just so many threads to search through and i'm panicking!:crying:
Last night my Nexus 4 fell out of my jeans pocket about 2 ft onto my tiled bathroom floor. it has a diagonal crack from bottom right corner to 3/4 way up to the left side of the screen. I had a pattern lock applied and now because of the damage only the top 3 characters work which means in my case i cant unlock the screen. I am desperate to unlock it before repairing it because i have pictures of our newborn son; just 18 days old.
I have been told that whoever repairs it will hard reset the phone 'due to data protection'. I dont care about anything else on the phone, but i cant replace those photo's, so please, can anybody help me and let me know a way that i could retrieve these precious pictures?
some info that might be helpful? :-
It isn't rooted
Its the 16gb version
its running android 4.2.2
Its a UK handset (i'm based in the UK)
It does recognise the handset when plugged into a computer via USB, but i assume because the handset is 'locked' with the pattern, it won't let me download the pics.
Please help if you can. Thanks in advance.

do i need to have 4 characters minimum available? i can only use 3 and what you are suggesting (unless it takes ages) isn't doing anything?
Thanks.
Have you tried connecting your phone through USB onto another computer and accessing the phone's Internal SD card in "my computer"? If that didn't work... Then, do you have USB debugging enabled in your phone? If you do, then you can use ADB from the computer to pull the SD card contents (you don't need to have root access for that).
I can understand how you are feeling. I went through a similar situation when my Handycam hard disk got corrupted... but that's another story...
______________________________
Hit the "THANKS" button if I helped!
i have plugged it into my home laptop; it recognises the nexus 4, but i assume that because the screen/phone is locked, that for (security?) it wont let me download or indeed show any pictures.
Where do or would i find the ADB on my computer? i never turned on or off android debugging, so if it was switched on from the factory then it still will be.
Gutted!

Unfortunately, USB debugging is turned off by factory defaults, so ADB is out of the question.
I'd like to know what you mean when you say that the computer recognizes the phone...
Apart from that, you might wanna try one of these Freeware Android file explorers/browsers that don't require root access (google them). That way there's still a chance.
Don't give up.

flash TWRP in fastboot. Then boot to the bootloader and select recovery. You can use adb no problem from recovery. The exception is, I think you need to have the bootloader unlocked to flash a custom recovery (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I think you will be able to factory reset your phone from stock recovery..
This should just factory reset your phone but not get rid of anything on your sd card
When your phone boots back up it will be as if you just took your phone out the box.. Hopefully you should be able to get the files on your pc as the screen lock would have been reset
Can anyone confirm?

I recently rooted my S3 i747 and then installed cyanogenmod 10. Keep in mind I am not a wiz at doing these things, however it did work. Here in lies my problems. 1. I hate this OS with a passion. Its just not what i thought it would be so I would love nothing more than to figure out how to remove it and return to stock firmware or another custom rom. 2. If i stay with this rom (for not being able to figure out how to remove it and install another) I am running out of storage internally. Its a great possibility I could have done something wrong. so with that being said, can anyone help me? I have tried more websites than I care to. thanks so much!

edit... Pull the battery on your phone and put it back in. Hold up vol, home button and Power till you see the little words in the top left corner. It should say booting recovery really small. at that point take your finger off of the power button only and it will boot into Recovery.
If you have CWM recovery or TWRP you are golden...
Or else... see below
Find your phone in it's section you should be able to find a method using Odin to flash it back to stock and then you can read up and find the way to do everything you want.
Just do your research and look through the forum for your phone type/carrier and you should be able to find all of the information that you are looking for.
Search and you shall succeed!

why do you guys make things so complicated? the guy wants his phone back to stock.
The only thing you have to do is to go to www.sammobile.com/firmwares. Then put your phone number i9100 in the search box and choose any of the roms below. They are all stock, 2.3/4.x.x etc. The rom is in a zip file, however, you have to extract the tar file inside it.
Power off your phone then, while holding vol down, press and hold power.
Open odin in your pc then connect the phone to pc while being in download mode. press the pda button in odin and insert the .tar rom whoch you have just extracted. press start and you are done.

Hi guys, sorry if this is a "noob" question or that its in the wrong section or whatever, I am new here and this is my first post so please bear with me.
So today I was trying to install cyanogen mod which is so hard? And I did something wrong and I went into recovery mode to reset the phone and accidently deleted the OS... Now the phone is pretty much useless. I researched it and they say do a factory reset with odin(whatever that is, I dont know) and then the phone should be back to normal... I dont know how to do this and am panicking! Please help me get my phone back to normal? I wanted to install cyanogen mod because I wanted the theme to be black and white instead of black and cyan like it is on stock and I wanted a new kernel to improve performance and battery life which sucks on a stock nexus 4. Any help much appreciated...
Also, Nexus 4 Toolkit v2.0 doesn't have android 4.3 on it yet? It says it only updates on the pro version? I DESPERATELY NEED HELP PLEASE!
Thank you everyone, sorry for being so noob and urgent, cheers!

My computer cannot detect the Nexus 4... I cant do anything like even load anything... I only go to recovery mode... I don't even know how to flash a rom? I deleted everything so theres no rom to flash anyway and my PC not detecting it is not helping.
Download and install this: http://www.wugfresh.com/
Follow the instructions on the driver installation and choose the RAW drivers. Seem to work better than the other options. Leave the phone in the bootloader. Don't touch the phone besides plugging it into the computer. Once everything is done driver wise, choose Soft-bricked/bootloop. Be sure that you have the factory image from Google itself. Doing this method will reset everything. So be sure to do any backups if you can. I'm not at fault if you ruin your phone even more.

Click on this link and read the instructions...then read them again and follow to the letter. http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ Andel7539 was pointing you in the same direction, just be patient and read the instructions. There is an option to reload the original O/S, then you can move on from there. Odin is a Samsung interface, not what you need for an LG phone. For what it's worth I did the same thing before by accident but had a backup (nandroid) just in case of emergency's which you should also have for situations such as this. When in doubt Google and read, Google and read!
Thank you... I still cannot do it because I cannot enable USB debugging. I've seen all the guides but they all require USB debugging and I cannot get into the phone to enable it? If I try to start the phone up it will just be stuck at the google logo but I can get into the fastboot menu and recovery menu too. Please help?
Also, do I need Cyanogen mod to use kernels? Or do I just need to root? I only wanted Cyanogen mod in the first place for better performance and battery life but I hear there are kernels that allow you to have both? Please guide me through this guys, I am very noob, sorry about this. Cheers!
Just for the record, bootloader/fastboot mode have nothing to do with usb debugging. Do you know at least how to boot to the bootloader? (Power + Volume Keys)
You don't need usb debugging to save your phone. Follow the instructions and you will do it.
And no, you don't need CM to use custom kernels, just a custom recovery to flash them and an version of the kernel compatible with your Android version.
Search about how to install adb on your PC and how to "sideload" zips in it. Then sideload the CM zip. Or search how to use fastboot and use it to flash the google factory image on your phone.

With the fastboot you can do it, or, if you're already rooted or running CM, install GooManager from PlayStore, go to options and select "Install OpenRecovery Script".
my rooted G2 with stock 4.2 suddenly quit accepting a charge and appears to be caught in a boot loop. when I have it in via usb to my laptop it (laptop) responds by recognizing 12 different devices while saying they they all need to be reformatted. when I unplug the device they go away on the laptop. when I hold power (device) the LG logo will appear then quickly disappear leaving only the very dim backlight as proof that it isn't completely dead. any ideas? thank you
one more thing, the fiddling I have been doing is xposed modules. the last one I think I activated was xblast tools (very cool sh*t by the way).
You need to flash the xposed disable zip that's automatically put on the root of the storage directory. The latest module or change you added is most likely the cause. After flashing the zip, you'll need to reinstall xposed. Remember to disable the module that caused the bootloop.

When you plug it into your computer do you see a yellowed out device in Windows device manager?
If so try this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48361867&postcount=68
or alternately, install the pdanet drivers.
If you can then get adb access to your device there are several paths you could take.
I used this thread (I had recovery but not twrp), as it's the least destructive - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
If you can't get adb access with either single sooner or pdanet drivers, you may have to resort to this..

No, hard brick is when the device won't even turn on. OPs device turns on, but is stuck in limbo.
