Hi all, sorry for posting this here but I really need some input from the honest folks of XDA whom I trust most
I have Xperia X10 & I want to buy a new phone, my three options are Note 3, Xperia Z1 & LG G2
now I really wanted to go for Note 3 because of s pen & big size but the problem is that Snapdragon 800 version is not released with warranty for where I live & I have doubts buying a Samsung device without warranty
I played a bit with Xperia Z1 & noticed the overheating issue around the lens & worse yet it shuts down the camera & doesn't let you use it unless the device is cooled down
I played with LG G2 & found no issues at all, really loved the device & its innovations, the price is also lower than those two here, the only thing is I heard a few things about LG phones in general that makes me worried, a few people say that lg phones' batteries get worse after some months & you'll get half the battery life you got during first days, Also they say that because of G2's many software features the phone will lag after some months (which sounds kinda stupid really) but since my budget is really really limited & I will stuck with whatever I choose for two or three years I need some honest input from the people who own this device for some months now
Thanks a lot, Really appreciate it
Here's my somewhat biased answer:
1. I avoid Sony products like the plague. Not very good experience in the past.
2. I don't like the Xperia line, their designs are not that good to me (way too square-ish).
3. I've been a Samsung user for the last three devices Samsung S2, Samsung S3 Mini and Samsung Note 1, all of them great devices except two things: Build quality (chromes come off easily) but above all, AMOLED screens tend to burn-in over time. So I decided to avoid AMOLED screens from now on.
4. I decided to try LG G2 due to it been the first Snapdragon 800 CPU and it's gorgeous IPS screen but most of all, its INCREDIBLE BATTERY LIFE! which is something every other brand lacks (maybe except the Motorola Droid MAXX). Other great aspects: super thin, almost no bezel which allows the screen to be almost phablet size!
I would suggest you to try LG G2, it will not disappoint you! :good:
Just make sure you get the 32 GB version!

I Personally like the Z1 and the G2
The Z1 overheating issues is only present if you take video like a mad person or play games as if its a PSP from my understanding.
Remember these are still phones. And if you plan to play games on it for 6-8 hours straight and get it overheating, you are in need of a Handheld or tablet. It should not overhead on normal usage.
G2 I have so far has great battery life. What u should do to Li-Ion every now and then though is run it completely dead and recharge it so the system can calibrate the battery again. a lot of times that's the issue. That's the same thing people say with Motorolas also but I been fine with miens for 1 1/2 years
I went with the G2 due to price. Instead of the Note I had the HTC one as my third option.
The new phones are all soo powerful it mainly comes down what u want to use it for and what fits ur pocket and style.
I like the size, Screen, Powerplant, Battery of the G2 and the Price at under $300 used in mint condition was a steal to me.
Else I went for the HTC one at little over 325,.... The Sony was nice but the price was not right for me. Nor did it feel comfi in my hand.
But again those are my personal reason on why I picked the G2
1. Sony make POS phone, I despise their products, even their GOOGLE TV sucks, funny thing is I'm getting ready to buy their noise cancelling headphone. They dont listen to customer, the same problem that happen in the XZ is happen on the XZ1S viewing angle. also the battery is surprisingly not good at all.
2. Note 3 is good but too big for my hand. my rules of thumb is, if I cant wrap my thumb and middle finger around the phone, then it is too big for me
3. LG G2 is an awesome phone, if I switch to any other phone it would be because I'm bored of Android, not because of the phone. battery last me all day with everything turn on (no battery saving app BS)
I traded the XZ for HTC one, the HTC one came close to beating it, but the over heating and battery got me to switch to the LG G2. If you do want the Note 3, take a look at the HTC one max, I think they fix it to where it doesnt overheat.
I had a Xperia Z1 and man, its a joke... Full of issues, touchscreen, battery, lag in homescreen, random reboots... I replaced it 5 times and all have the same issues.
Now i have an Lg G2 and, oh my really f**** god... Its wonderful! its the best phone i have had so far. The IPS screen provide a really good quality, it impress me the first time i saw it.
Buy an LG and you will like it as heaven.
Buy a Sony and play Russian roulette.
Buy a Samsung and you will have a good phone ( i dont have it so i dont say anything about it )
Thanks all for your input, That makes me want this phone even more over the other two
so those of you who have this phone for some months now haven't face any lag or battery life degradation on stock rom??because I know I'm gonna just use the stock rom (because based on my experience with X10 & flashing countless custom roms nothing beats stock in stability)
Also 32 gb is enough for you? I don't have proper access to cloud, for me it'll be some music files, maybe two or three movies, one hd game maybe & also I need 2-3 gb for maps to use it for offline gps, with these can I install many apps without any issues?
Thanks again for your useful comments
Also about HTC one max its price is really over my budget, also its camera is just not that good in daylight
any comment on the storage?
I'm off to buy my new phone next week
Yes 32gb is enough for your usage! But of course as anything else, you should not abuse it!

You will have 24 GB storage after system apps. There is some occasional stutter when scrolling but that's the only lag I've experienced.

I thought of that initially too... But it was not a dealbreaker at all!
I use several storage options:
1. Cloud Storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc)
2. Personal wireless NAS Storage when at home.
3. USB Host through OTG cable and usb memory.
Besides, unless you purchase a high speed micro sd, external storage through microsd is basically useless due to their low performance compared with the internal storage. Even some Class 10 microsd are not as fast as internal storage.
Anyway, just be sure to get those video recordings out of your device soon, because they are HUGE! lol...
Cheers!
I have that Russian cloud storage which gave me 1TB of free storage due to a now finished promo. Box.com gives you 50 GB free storage when you sign in using a LG phone but cloud storage isn't that fast really.

I agree, stock it great....i just installed a debloated version and the up side to the root Rom is charging isn't limited on cheap chargers, bloatware removal and a small boost of battery life.
I would highly recommend the LG G2, i swap phones alot and my all time favorite was the HTC One due to its build quality and boom sound speakers but since i started using the G2 Im so in love with it. Great battery life and the a huge screen that is prefect for one hand use due to the lack of screen bezel.
The only main issue i had with the G2 was the UI, although it preforms well but the colors used are so stupid and might make the phone look cheap, so i replaced all the main ugly looking apps with others from the Play store ( No root required) im talking about the Dialer, Messaging & keyboard.
Hope that helps making up ur mind.
i think the verizon G2 is the best bang for the buck
the gsm is unlocked
wireless charging built in
I like the stock LG keyboard.
for everything else
there are LOTs of ROMS :good::good::good:
I am also looking for my next phone.
At first considered Note 3, but after a bit of reading around, its buggy firmwares scared me off plus i am not interested in S pen features.
Then thought of One Max, but no OIS like One, and snapdragon 600 not very futureproof either. Great screen and audio though. But having this big of a phone and still compromise on specs was a no go.
Now i am down to LG G2. I guess this might be it. I could care less about having latest android version as for me it is already mature enough. Phone stability and battery life are what i am looking for with decent horsepower.
I am pretty much a samsung fanboy! Not to the extreme but I have been in love with the galaxy series.
I was using the galaxy S3 when a offer for the LG G2 came up, which i could not refuse, so i 'gave it a go' and in my complete honesty i have never looked back and had no regrets.
The phone is amazing and can guarentee it will compete with most if not all the upcoming phones this year!! The speed is just out of this world and the first thing people comment on when trying my phone. Battery.....well what can I say, WOW!!!! Button placement is actually very nice, but due to LGs actual useful features I dont touch the buttons for days on end!
Storage.......yes this can be a problem, and its the one thing people turn round to me and say its the thing tgat stops them getting the phone. But i have learnt to live with it with no problems. My gallery is now linked to my dropbox so save space there, and i just delete gilms and series once i have watched them. To me i have no issues with storage.
Overall i can not reccomend this phone enough! I did not mention so much like screen and bezel and overall size if phone as they are just obviously perfect.

Guys I hope you don't mind me tagging onto this thread.
I killed my Xperia Z Ultra yesterday, I reversed over it, its complete roadkill now... :crying:
Anyway that aside I am seriously considering the G2 now it can be gotten for such a reasonable price and the hardware/battery etc. is so much better than the Nexus 5.
Im completely sold on the hardware but I do like stock android though so will probably go with an AOSP Rom at some point.
Can someone tell me if I can still root and put custom recovery on the latest LG firmware... I just won't be happy if I'm stuck with the stock LG firmware forever.
Really appreciate if someone could answer that for me conclusively as I have my finger on the trigger of buying one. :good:
you probably can, otherwise you grab an old kdz somewhere downgrade(via return to stock method, posted here somewhere), root and upgrade
anybody have experience with that?

I really enjoyed using it... The camera was typical tablet quality, very poor and I found myself not bothering to take photos of moments I would have like to have captured,
The size I got used to but it was what ultimately lead to its demise, It must have fell out of my pocket getting into the car and I reversed over it. Its roadkill now :crying: Will get a replacement on the insurance and sell it on.
The things I had the huge screen for, ie watching movies and gaming I found I never had time to do anyway... I don't regret getting the Ultra but its time for something with similar performance but a lot more practical and I think for me thats the G2,

Hi everybody, excuse my english i'm french
So, i will buy a new smartphone, but i CAN'T decide between these phone, it's hard. I've a basic usage, i use my phone for SMS/call/twitter/facebook/(few) games/musique (with earphone)/(few) photos, and that's all I search a beautiful interface, because I HATE Android stock, it's very empty. So i search a beautiful interface with good features, i also search a very fast phone, and that's all because these 3 phone have an amazing screen/performance etc.
I like the HTC One because i think Sense is good, and i can't stay for the new HTC, but the One will have Sense 6.0 (with ROM custom) ? And the One is old..
I like the G2 for his screen, and his is new
And the Z1 for his camera
So thank you if you could help me, i've 800$ so i can buy any phone, thank you !
Excuse me for my english..
I think you are looking at the wrong phones for what you are describing...LG G2 is horrible until you put a custom ROM on it and the Z1 I don't believe will give you what you are looking for. The HTC One is closer to what u like, but I feel like the processor and RAM are lacking now that we are in 2014. I don't know what phones you can purchase due to location but I think for what you are describing your best options would be:
Moto X
Samsung S4 (European variant)
Samsung Note 3
HTC One
good luck
note 3 or g2 , lg g2 is best phone of 2013 , chck reviews urself , htc one is old now n poor battery , while z1 is kool but its not better than lg g2
thekazzazpv => Really the G2 is horrible ? Why ? Everybody say he is the best phone ever..
Thank you, mmhh for the Galaxy S4 i don't want this phone because i've an S3 and this is the "same" with Touchwiz
Same for the note 3, and he is too large.. I can't buy with import for the Moto X..
pw1nce => For the Note 3 it's Touchwiz (i've already Touchwiz), and i want change.. I note for the G2, thank you, and i agree the One is obsolete now (8 months..)
I own the LG G2 and I love it... what I was saying is that stock it was bloated, cumbersome, almost useless. I am running CM 11 Nightlies and love it! I enjoy changing things regularly and customizing it best to how I use the phone. Your original post led me to believe that you don't want to mess with the phone much just use it stock. The LG G2 is amazing and super fast if you are willing to root and flash it.
---------- Post added at 07:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:43 PM ----------
Also you mentioned you don't like stock Android, which most custom ROMs start with. I'm sure if you have knowledge in phone mods or are willing to learn you could find a system you'll like and the LG G2 has a great developer community.
Every stock phone is bloated regardless of mfg. The carrier's add the bloat and are quite adept at adding it for their own personal gain. All three will do what you are asking. Personally I love the g2

Wait for the new htc one as i guess it should've better battery..
I agree with the g2 it is horrible, skin wise inside but the look of the phone is good.coming from htc sense or touchwiz you wouldnt appreciate g2 unless with a custom rom..
Ive had htc one and swap it with g2 now im back with black htc one with a bigger capacity.64gb despite the fact that it is poor in battery category...now my htc one is already for sale as i am waiting for the new htc one+

If you buy a phone and use it right out of the box (w/o modification), get the G2.
If you buy a phone and intend to "rip" it apart then you can buy any phone, it just happens those Sammies seem always having huge ROM development at xda.
Note: if you want to mod, prepare to READ and READ and READ before doing anything. Also read ALL the issues that others have.
Hi buddy, i have had the HTC ONE, damn loved that device. The ONE is great for random tasks such as fb, videos etc.. In music its the best in class. I switched to the g2 i really like the g2.
What i miss from htc on.
Sound
Lowlight camera performenc
Build quality
Sense 5.5 my fav android skin, even better than the pure android.
What i dont miss
Buttons, damn thees to buttons were stupid placed
Battery life was horrible on the one
Stupidly slow at charging
Overall the g2 is a faster device, better performer in camera when its in good lightning
The pure android fits better on the g2 i think. One htc one pure android i think its useless, personal opinion htc one without sense is nothing.
Good luck

I actually have the Xperia Z1 and the camera is... Meh. My brother's phone took a very similar photos and only have 8 MP.
Even without the camera, the xperia Z1 ( at least for me) is a beautiful phone with a lot of issues inside. Some lag with stock rom, touchscreen issue, bad speakers sound...
Tomorrow maybe i will have the LG G2 ( i replaced the Xperia Z1 due to the touchscreen issue, 5 phones replaced and all with the same issue ) and i will tell you if the phone is better or worst than the Z1.
Wait for the new HTC M8(rumored name is the "One+'') to be announced. The new Snapdragon 805 has 4 Krait 450 cores and DX11.1 graphics powered by the new Adreno 420 GPU. Tasty if I do say so myself...

Bonjour OP! I agree with what Koopa says. It looks like waiting could be it. However if you need/want a phone right now my advice is buy a phone cor what functionality best suits you. I have the G2. My wife has the HTC One. In my case Im more tech savvy. I like to root, optimize, and tweak as I see fit. The G2 fits as it has the latest/greatest processor etc... The HTC one is a beautiful device but its in my opinion more geared to multimedia users. The sense UI is very socially centered and the audio experience (without headphones) is superb. To me its the perfect phone for those that love media and interactivity of apps with social functions. Sense makes it all tie in nice. Im absolutely jealous of the HTC remote software that has a full program guide for whats on tv. It makes the G2 infrared remote look bad.
All that said do not underestimate those same functions on the G2. It may not have beats audio, but it capable of much better audio playback than the One. The screen is larger on the G2, and frankly better... marginally. For video out... G2 wins. Where the One utilizes MHL for 720p output, and only upscales to 1080... the G2 can use slimport and has can support true 1080 native playback. The G2 multimedia wise beats the HTC one hands down in more ways than these... the differencein using those functions rests on the user interface for each phone. As far as UI goes... HTC with sense is easier and more intuitive. It flows better and its good for those who need more of a dumbed down phone but still want a great media experince.
The G2 does ALL the functionality better, and is capable of far more than the One. It just isnt as pretty or intuitive. However spend about a week with the G2 and you wont care about it not being intuitive.
If you love a huge bezel free Scrren, then surely go with the G2 if it doesn't matter much to you go with the HTC One. From features and speed they don't differ much + HTC (might) be faster with OS Updates, if that's what matters to you. The Camera in both Phones isnt the greatest, the G2 one is kinda slow for my liking but I'm more the DSLR type anyway.
Just stay away from the Z1 unless you want be stuck with bad viewing angels.
I owned all 3 Phones and would put the HTC One and the G2 almost on the same level.
I have had the HTC one since it came out. I bought the G2 a couple of weeks ago as I was getting bored of the one. I found the g2 to be rather laggy and made me realise how smooth the one is. The one is the smoothest Android in existence. I read reviews saying the camera is great on the G2 but I found it quite dissapointing.unless you take very well lit pictures outside, zooming in to crop makes things look like they have been painted. I think the one produces better results even with it's 4mp camera.
I found the battery to be superb on The G2, I can get 5 hours screen on and 3 hours on the one.
I've decided to go back to the one and put my white 32gb white g2 up for sale. Pm me if you've interested!
Enjoy whatever you get
apart from the waterproofing and premium build on the z1 having played around with the misses g2 ,the g2 is better so thats why i recently got one to,the camera on z1 was suppose to be amazing but in truth g2 has better quility, more natural colours, even xperia T has better camera than z1 from xperiance and its not much faster than T either only in benchmarks, htc, nice device but camera lets it down a bit,G2 is the one to go for
Thank you very much all, i've tested the Z1 in a store just 30 seconds, and i was blufed by the smooth of the phone, the G2 and the One aren't available for testing.. I don't open a game or other, just open the browser (Google Chrome) and scroll into the homescreen, this is very fast, but i love Sense and i don't want wait 3 months for the new HTC.. The G2 is not very beautiful, so i pass on this phone. The Z1 have many problems (reviews from buyers), so, it's better i go on the HTC One who is a great value or the Z1 ? If i buy the One, will i have Sense 6.0 with ROM Cutom or Official updates ?
You have convainced me for go on the HTC One, but only if i will have Sense 6.0, because i don't want to wait 3 months, thank you all

you could test if the Xperia Z1 have the touchscreen issue... I can tell you that the touchscreen issue is too much frustrating ( if you have a lock pattern you will kill the Z1 in 3 days )
Buy an HTC One is buy an old phone. Buy G2 and if you dont like the look you always can buy a case.
I think i pass on the Z1 i don't want a phone which is have a problem every 10 minutes.. Yes i also think the One is too old now, so i will go on a G2 because he is a new phone and he was elected "phone of the year 2013" so i think he is good. But i think i will miss Sense.. Not a big problem because i will put a ROM Thank you !

I am torn between subscribing a two year contract between lg g2 and s4. I dont take into account the newer phones cuz they are a lot expensive. Which should I purchase? I am more into camera, games and multimedias. The things stopping me from leaning to lg g2 is the wierd button placement and the non expandable storage. Is it really uncomfortable in using the volume and wake buttons? I had been reading reviews thesee past few days and alot of the says the speaker are weak and its placement is not good. It csn be easily obstructed by hands. But I do think the g2 is better than s4 due to newer processor and gpu. Any advice on this matter? Thanks in advance

I've had similar doubts recently, and decided to move from Galaxy series to LG.
My first impression regarding buttons position is that there is a perfect reason to put them at the back. I'ts just a matter of getting just on them, and it took one day.
Camera is quite nice, with quality photos in all conditions. If you are devoted mobile photographer, maybe there are some better choices, but for an average user, camera is more that one can expect. (Good camera review)
Speaker is kinda week, and can be obstructed by hands, but, it is not bad at all.
G2 is really a beast, no need to talk about hardware. It isl really a superb smartphone with exceptional screen.
Software is surprisingly nice and friendly to advanced users. I am Cyanogenmod fan, but can live with LG stock ROM without any problems.
If you don't need tons of files on the phone, and don't need long HD video recordings, lack of external storage should't be to hard to live with.
If it means anything, I really believe that currently G2 is a best buy and smart choice

I can live with weak speakers since usually im using headset. But a photowhore hahaha lol. I tend to snap photos every now and then. But the limited memory makes me think twice. I love lg g2 but I also love saving up video clips so I ca watch them back every free time. And also does the g2 have a good community support with awesome devs? I tried searching for miui for g2 but I found no favorable response

the S4 is a great phone, but if you purchase a s4 you'll get a Triband version. I just came out of the S4 and the development is no where near where the LG G2 is. The sprint S4 SPH-L720T can use all of the regular S4 non triband (sph-l720) roms, but guess what, no Spark. If your okay with that, then there is alot of roms and development on the S4. However, on the LG G2 they have more roms and they the roms work across all the variants. That is one reason i really liked it.
The LG G2 already comes with a really close AOSP feel. In fact, out of the box there is very much small things you actually have to do to get it to AOSP. And whatever is missing you can get with Xposed Framework. I sure do not regret it. Even the battery life is better on the G2 because its slightly bigger. The AMOLED screen on the galaxy series have started to bother me becaause im a Graphic Designer and the colors are just too vibrant. On the G2 the colors are right on the money as its the same color space SRGB compared to our monitors. Good lucks man, this device is amazing, it does not get the attention it should. I like Galaxy though because the Developing (for the non triband version) is extremely extremely ahead of its game. But, as long as i have recovery, root and of course deoxed and init, kernel and underclocked, im a happy camper. Sorry for any mistakes, i dont wanna go and proofread. lol

I tried searching for miui for g2 but I found no favorable response

the g2 community is great and the devs are awesome, and offer plenty of support for their roms, there is currently no working miui port for the g2 if that's what you are looking for(there is a v6 port somewhere but it doesn't boot), the 32gb version should satisfy you unless you planning on recording hours of 4k videos(supported with camera mod), also if you are into photography than the stock camera is not all that worth it, root and camera mod will do wonders for the phone
Man no doubt!! G2 is amazing!! is better than S4...
true
That is true, G2 win.
As you may see at STUFF.TV G2 is at second place, beating even S5
Same question asked in Facebook android group before buying LG G2 ......
No one said s4 out of 70 comments ......
Now my experience ... No words

I spent a lot of time researching these two options. I had a slightly different short list of functionality that I wanted (both that I could or couldn't live without). The G2 has better hardware specs than the S4, as you probably know, and the benchmarks generally beat it (which gets to your multimedia/gaming requirements). But, they're both great phones and i'm sure you wouldn't have problems with either. They are similar, outstanding phones.
I decided on the G2 because of its camera OIS (only android phone that has it, period). And, it consistently got better reviews on almost all photography-type sites than any other android phone (s4 included). I love the camera, it is very good (for a phone). I just put its HDR pictures and videos on a 720p 50 inch TV - they look outstanding. Obviously not as good as a real camera...
Hello. I've owned this tablet for nearly 4 months and I think i can now give a brief of my personal experience but i would also like some others opinions.
Firstly, I would like to mention that I've not regretted buying this device from the moment i unpacked it and still going. It's an absolute pleasure.
The design is brilliant, it looks so damn premium and feels it too. The weight doesn't bother me and it feels nice to hold. Even better after i received the 'poetic graph grip' rubber case. This case feels premium as the rubber texture and quality is so great. Anybody who doesnt like a flip case should definitely invest in one of these.
Onto the tablet performance, it is practically flawless. In every aspect. The speed of app switching and the animations is smooth and with hardly any noticable delay. Scrolling is just as smooth. I have noticed no graphical glitchery of the sorts. So it's speed overall is amazing.
The battery life, considering the speed i mentioned above, is some sort of sorcery indeed. I get roughly 1 hour SOT per 10% battery life and it doesn't seem be affected by how I'm using it much. I could be playing games, watching video or browsing facebook. The difference between those uses and the impact is almost negligible. As in there's no real impact. And I'm a heavy user. No I dont use battery saving modes either. When this battery cycle is done I'll add screenshots to this post.
The display quality is stunning and the colour reproduction is near damn perfect. I did slightly adjust the rgb ratio marginally to get a slightly brighter white by increasing the blue and green by 10 each. I like that i have this option. Sony likes this too, they know someone that buys a sony is very likely keen on the display so they make sure not to miss a trick there. Great job.
Next is the sony software. Okay here i have to admit that I'm not a big sony app user. Firstly sonys gallery and movies apps don't seem to like my sdcard and i have no idea why. So I have quickpic, mxplayer and es file explorer. They all work flawlessly. But i am sad that i can't make 100% use of sonys best apps
They are all beautiful though, so it can be said that there's nothing wrong with them at all if you use the devices built in storage.
Bravia and xreality really pack a punch and nobody does it well as sony. These should be taken full advantage of.
I like the rest of the apps such as social life, lounge, remote, sketch, smart connect and even sony select is pretty good. Of course im going to use third party apps, thats why i chose android. But for once, this brand of built in apps really has everything it should have and they're splendid too. I feel guilty that i don't use them frequently enough.
I don't know what else to say really, this device is pretty magical.
Oh and I'm still using stock 4.4.2, with towel root. It failed the update because it can't be verified im guessing because i rooted it. I'm scared to update it anyway, it works too well and i know from my experiences that if something works perfectly just leave it as it is.
What are others opinions? Do you think my review is correct?
I rushed the post and no I'm not going to correct my grammar and punctuation, even though i could. Just read it.
There's no reason you shouldn't buy it if you're looking for a good tablet. Sony really deserves a pat on the back. Looking forward to my next sony device.
Oh and f**k Samsung. Never will i buy a samsung again. Ugly piece of bloated laggy trash.

I'm a Samsung guy through and through...........
............ Or at least I was until a week ago.
I have had Samsung for years now and although I have tried other brands I always seem to go back to Samsung.
Well, last week I swapped our lass my Galaxy S4 for her Xperia Z2. I was going to trade it in by the second day for another Samsung, but she talked me into persevering with it a little longer....... and I'm so glad she did!. It's big, it's very square, but now I'm used to it I actually like it. I prefer it over the Samsung for the fact that Sony don't force loads of bloatware on you. The screen is great, the camera is fantastic! and battery life is amazing compared to any Samsung I have had.
So what has the Z2 phone got to do with a review of the Z2 tablet???........... Nothing........but.....
I always have a tablet to match my phone. So now I am used to the Z2 I plan on trading my Note 10.1 and Nexus 10 to get the Z2 tablet.
It's just bloody typical, when I didn't want the Z2 tablet our local secondhand shop had a couple in. But now I actually want one, they have none!.
I have had it 6 Months. I did buy the official sony case but generally use it without it, except when im out and about. Holding it now without a case it feels great as it always did since the first time I bought it. Slim as hell, but confident I could drop it and still recover. Its an odd design with wide bezzels but keeps me from tapping on the sides. Camera is bad, and that is the only negative I have. But who uses a tablet to take pics. I reackon when it gets lollipop im sorted for a tablet for the next year, im a techo geek and like to keep up to date, but dont see myself upgrading this for a while, and I think that says alot. It has never let me down and has done everything I ask of it in the last 6 months, so im staying with it, and will invest in a nice sony phone aswell.
Im a bit disappointed with mine but the fault of the first 2 fall on to bell
1. My bootloader is locked (made the mistake of buying through a carrier) which leads me to two
2. Unable to customize with roms/kernel
3. The bezels make it hard, even impossible to shop for universal 10" cases
4. The battery for me isn't what i thought it would be, an hour of use it drops 15-20 %
Other then those, everything is great, performence, display, sound(with headphones)
Things would be different if i was able to unlock my BL... Now I am happy to have root and some control of the stock kernel at least.
If your battery is dropping 15-20% a hour, you're doing something wrong. {Except you're gaming, then it's perfectly normal.) This device is really battery efficient, 10% per hour is normal.
Use Stamina Mode, and look whether there are apps in the background which consume battery. Tame them by deactivating (with Titanium Backup) or by using Greenify/Amplify.
For the case, simply get the Sony case. It's perfectly fine.
And you don't need ROMs or kernels on this device. Stock ROM + Root + Xposed is perfectly fine, looks good and has by far the best battery life.
So just enjoy!
Hey guys I've been looking for a tablet for a while now that fits my needs. I'm thinking the Z2 Tab is the way to go, beautiful design, big enough and backed by Sony who are known for timely updates.
Now I've never owned a Sony Device and I've had a look in the forums... What's the deal with rooting and such? Most threads seem to point towards the 'Sony cross-device forum' and I'm a bit confused. I've only owned LG and Samsung devices and they both seemed to have more device specific Development...
I really like of this tablet. All most every single aspect of it is really good.
But my real problem with it is touch screen. It's the worst touch screen have been used. I update to last version and it is really batter but still with minor problems. My LG G2 has a really better touch screen than this tablet. What do you think about it's touch screen? These minor problems are common on other tablets ? I tried a Ipad 2 and the touch is really amazing.
Excellent tablet
I must agree with the original post, this is really an awesome tablet.
My wife has always gone with apple, both for her phone and ipad. The rest of my family and friends are all hard core Samsung or Apple users. At the beginning of the year I got an Xperia V phone, which was taken from me a month later when I was attacked walking my baby. A friend gave me his Samsung Galaxy to use. But I really loved the experience with the Sony, and being able to use it outdoors in sand and water. So when it came time to use my book and equipment allowance at work I put it towards a Sony Z2 tablet. I am really happy with the decision. After updating to 4.4.4 I find the touchscreen no longer gives issues, and while the camera performance is sub-par, it doesn't really bother me as using it for voip and anything esle other than a DSLR works great!
A big thumbs up to sony, and to all the xda developers that help us use this device the way we want to!
I just ordered mine, the 32 gig lte version, I decided to get this over the shield and a 128gig ipad air because I like sony products and hope this is as good as it looks.
You wont be disappointed.
I got this earlier this month. I had immediate buyers regret day one because the screen was being iffy. I also almost never used it that day because I was chatting and its a pain in the butt to type on a tablet.
Then day 2 rolled around. I was amazed by the battery life (10% for every 1 hr SOT) and how amazing the Sony Music, Video and Phones apps were. The only problem was its inability to play audio on mkv files. The audio booster was another thing that made a huge difference. By far the best.
The screen almost never gets glitchy anymore (thank god). If it does it goes away after turning the screen off and on. The color reproduction was fantastic.
They only downside to this was some of the built in sony apps i cant uninstall. I think people can make good use of them. Just not for me. Also wish they would give some freebies from their media store for buying a $450 purchase

if you dont have high budget , can consider xperia tablet compact or xperia tablet z first generation
Got it today, already rooted without unlocking bootloader and charging now ?
So far I'm very glad I bought It!!! Amazing job Sony ?

My first tablet purchase ever, so not much to compare with cept for the ipads we get at work (yawn). It works a treat so far, keeping it stock 4.4.4 for the moment, tho I look forward to removing the bloat. I wasn't able to play hearthstone on my phone so it's taken up most of my initial testing hah. I've noticed a rare slight creak from the back panel somewhere to the right and I think I read another review saying the same. And I know it's certified water resistant, but it could finally get to me, having to pick out the tab every time I want to charge or connect to the PC. I've had zero freezing, lag etc runs cool as a cucumber. Not like my galaxy note that can heat up just as good as my microwave.
Sent from my SGP521 using XDA Free mobile app
The only real issue I've experienced with my tablet is the touch issue, no creaking or anything and it froze once, but other than that it's run awesome and it plays hearthstone fantastically
I do have a touch issue with icons on the home screen, especially if they're positioned close together.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Free mobile app
I just get an issue where touches aren't resisted, for instance in heath stone when I drag a card it drops like I let go but my finger is clearly still there, turning the screen on and of again fixes it

Does the Wifi version play Hearthstone just as well as LTE version, and why would LTE be 'better'? What version Z2 do you have?

Game would play the same, WIFI AND LTE are just different technologies for connecting to a network. It'd only be if you had a poor connection through either, because you must log online to play.

Yup the device certainly has touch issues as from the general concensus.
Mine has too. The screen will lose feedback while you drag things. It doesnt happen always but its more than enough to break the immersion.
Yeah ive got the z2 tablet and what Sony has achieved is great.
What is dissapointing however is the range of Android apps for the device.
Or should i say android tablets in general. An iPad provides better valute to the consumer, and until the ranger of apps available drastically improves im regretting the choice of eco system rather than sony itself.
I'm getting a new phone soon, and I'm stuck between the LG G3 and HTC One M8. I know this is the G3 forum but I hope I'll get honest suggestions from here.
Can someone please honestly answer my questions:
1. Since I'm coming from the Moto X 2014, I need a fast enough and future proof (duh, till 2016 Jun) phone. I sold it because the screen was fragile, display was so yellowish to my liking, camera wasn't good, no dev support, poor headphone output, poor battery and tempered glass protectors won't even fit properly. My question is, is the G3 really fast enough for the period I stated above? I don't want any lag or frame rate issues on my phone, even with games like MC5 or any other GPU demanding game.
2. How's the battery of the phone? I know about the stock figures, but with a custom ROM, and custom kernel, how many SOT can you get?
3. How's the headphone output? Is it comparable to the One M8 after some tweaking?
4. I don't mind chaging the screen resolution to 1080p, but after changing it, is the phone completely stable? I don't need bugs or any stability issues.
I really like the G3 for its screen size and camera (camera isn't a big priority though), a GB of RAM extra, bezel less design. While, the HTC M8 is cheaper, with some good Harman Kardon earphones, much better speakers, better performance.
Help me out please!

Well i would suggest the G3 for the same reasons i got it, the camera is far better than the M8, the video recording is up to 4k, the screen can't be lowered in resolution so the battery might drain a bit more than the M8 but the battery on the G3 has more capacity, the phone lasts me a whole day and a bit more but i always charge it each night, the phone is bigger in screen size and overall size but the feel on the hand is quite good, im typing using one hand so that should say a lot, the phone is plenty fast and the added gig of ram future proofs the phone a bit more, i would say hold out for the g4 but if you need to buy now then get the g3 i have already owned it for almost a year and the phone has been fantastic, im currently using the stock 4.4.2 firmware because lollipop breaks root and there is no shortage of roms so you can customize away with your liking. Overall get the G3. Also a minor detail that is easily noticeable on gold and white phones are small hairline cracks on the mics and ir blaster so if that is an absolute deal breaker get the m8 and if you get the at&t version then watch out cause sometimes some phones the wireless charging stops working good thing is at&t will exhange it but you have to press that the issue is the phone not the accesories. Overall is the best phone i have had since my sgs3

Some reviews say G3 is better, some say M8 is better. So I can't decide on one.
The only thing holding me back from the G3 is the lag. I got into some G3 threads and it seems the phone really lags in gaming too. If the lag wasn't there, G3 was the better phone obviously. I can't wait for the G4 because I'm getting these for cheap.
I don't want lag in ANY game or app. :/
With stock based custom rom I don't have lag.
With aosp based rom is incredibly fast.
I have both (actually my wife has the M8).
G3 pros
1) better camera
2) better screen
3) better in hand sensation
4) more updates (about 3 in 3 months)

I really dont understand why people say theres lag in games? i have this phone and dont get any lag in games at all and im on a stock rom too, personally i think G3 is a better phone than the m8, screens bigger with great screen to bezel ratio, quality of the screen is better imo, battery life maybe isnt better as this phone has a bigger screen and higher resolution screen (btw watch a high def movie on the LG G3 and it looks amazing). i bought my LG G3 for £280 brand new sim unlocked, for that price you cant go wrong.
I think the screen on the G3 is really good. It's what I liked the first time I seen it. Not that it was big but because it looked so clear. I used to calibrate displays and I think overall its one of the best screens I've seen on a phone. It definitely lacks black level but makes up for it everywhere else. Sharpness is now modifiable.
-A modified G3 can reach the M8 in benchmarks so speed may be comparable.
-A modified G3 can reach 80fps in Quadrant benchmarks.
-The G3 has a good camera and great third party app.
My parents both have an M8 as per my suggestion. I think they are great phones but I'm not sorry for choosing the G3 for myself, except for those great speakers the M8 has. Those speakers are just awesome!
Overall the build quality is totally different between the two based on materials used but the G3 isn't as bad as a Samsung.

Are you sure that every game runs smoothly on it? I'm asking because there's even a dedicated thread for reducing the lag.

Please be honest, if you were given a second chance, which one would you choose? Can I make the G3 run flawlessly as an HTC One M8 in everything?
I have a Nexus 7 2013 with a custom ROM and while it used to be fast, now it's not satisfactory for me. It's still fast, but I see some occasional stutter and games don't run smoothly. I don't need other slow device.

Yes im sure, i play graphic intensive games such as Colin McRae rally, Dead Trigger 2, Nova 3. No lag, i do use a custom kernel though.

There's something about it that I really love.

At the moment aosp based roms are on nightlys but stables versions are coming next days.
I miss camera quality and knock code
In all honest though you really need to ask yourself, how future proof are you these days anyway?
Chances are if you buy a new phone, it'll be outdated in a month because there will already be talks of a new model with a better processor and some revolutionary features.
Let's put it this way, I was in your situation a while ago too. I was using a Nexus 5 for a little over a year and just wanted something new. My first 2 choices were the M8 and the OnePlus one, then eventually I factored in the G3. It wasn't even on my radar to begin with!
In the end I chose the G3 because of the QHD screen, removable battery and microSD card support. Sure unibody phones look great, but I just have never liked the idea of the battery being sealed in. What if the battery you get is faulty? You'll need to replace the entire phone. Sure that's an extreme case but it can happen.
Take my post with a grain of salt because I don't value gaming performance, but with lollipop on the G3 it's plenty fast for me. I really don't think you can go wrong with either phone.

What kind on game are you looking to run to see if i can download it and test it out? I don't do much gaming on the phone just cause i have no time to game on it, all i have are some pick up and play games that entertaing for like 5min

I was in a similar situation when I sold my Moto X due to the same issues you mentioned above, though it was primarily due to the hideous AMOLED screen on the MOTO X which had burn-in issues just after 20 days of usage. Even my replacement unit got that in mere 10 days. It was the navbar that was visible under white/grey backgrounds.
I chose G3 over M8 after trying them in Chroma and other retail stores:
1. Much better screen to body ratio. The bezels are extremely slim and the phone looks sexy. Compare that to the M8, its as tall as the G3 but that is to accommodate those boomsound speakers.
2. Though it has to power a higher resolution screen, the latter lasts me 1.5 to 2 days since I consider myself a light user. It'll easily last you a day even with heavy use.
3. Camera is awesome! M8 stands no chance with its ultrapixel cam. The focus is insanely fast due to the laser focus which may seem gimmiky unless you use it and see it for yourself.
4. Though plastic, its pretty well built.
5. Removable battery, personal preference after using the MOTO X.
6. Gorgeous screen and I'm sure you'll see the difference when you use it over 1080p screen.
7. After sales of LG is light years ahead than HTC in our country. People all over India curse HTC for opting a 3rd party vendor for its after sales service. I've had an instance when I had to deal with them and I made sure it was the last. I've used Nexus 4 and 5 and found LG's after sales to be much better and their repair cost is also reasonable.
8. LG has come a long way in dealing with S/W updates and they have bettered HTC and many other OEM's in this area. I'm pretty optimistic that we will receive an update to 6.0 or whatever they name it.
Some points to consider:
1. The lags that you hear/read about were of 4.4.4 days and LG has done a good job with 5.0 making it pretty much lag free.
2. You WILL notice the speed difference between near stock Android of Moto X over custom LG skin but its something that you'll get use to in a matter of days.
3. I've used M8 a couple of times in retail store and its a wee bit faster compared to G3.
4. Though it happens rarely, the LG screen fails to respond to touch inputs. It mostly happens in the lower bottom area and many have reported this. Since 5.0 update, this issue is almost gone and I've come across it only once after the update. No need to worry about it and its certainly not a deal breaker. I've been using the phone since Dec 2014 and have encountered this 4-5 times and only once after the 5.0 update.
5. M8 with its boomsound speakers is clearly a winner when it comes to audio quality but G3's audio aint puny either. It's got decent amount of punch and should be enough for daily usage unless you plan use your phone to watch a lot of videos/movies.
Hope the above helps you in deciding. Every phone has its own compromises/cons and eventually you need to decide which ones you can live with. Cheers! :highfive:
I owned both (M8 for a couple of months and G3 till now) and i can say G3 is clearly the winner out there.Theres a simple reason.
If you have checked the recent GMA (global mobile awards ) in category 5 (best mobile handsets ) there were 2 winners :
Apple iphone 6 + LG G3. I havent seen any samsung or nexus or htc devices . So i am glad that i kept my G3 .
The judges comments :
“Affordable excellence with winning design – its edge-to-edge screen offers the best quality mobile viewing experience around today.”
Hi,
I'm think about getting the LG2 D802. I know it's getting older - but I was looking for the following things, and after some research G2 seems like a good condidate:
- I'm not looking for something super new and expensive. As I use the phone for calls, reading eBooks while on the bus and sometimes playing a casual game. I like the screen-size.
- My previous device was HTC One X which had excellent screen with great colors. This is somehow spoiled me, and when screen quality is poor - I can see it easily
- Comes good out of the box - I used to play around with Android devices - Root them, Install custom ROM. But I don't have too much time for this those days. I heard the G2 have a decent stock rom without too much vendor junk on it.
My other option was G3, but at least from older posts, the G3 seems to have battery issues and getting warmer more often. I saw some benchmark showing the G2 being faster on menu navigation. Is is still true for those days? or the G3 problem has been fixed and I should go with it instead?
Also - I saw a friend phone with 4.2.2 and it works pretty good. I heard the 5.0 updates has some memory leaks and other issues alike? the 5.1 fixes those?
Thanks!
The phone is prettt great. But from personal experience i would not go back because of screen problems. I had a dead zone and ghosts touches. And from what i know it cannot be fixed.
Its is amaizing fast amaizing camera and still fast.
But beware of that screen problem that some people deal with including me.
The nexus 6 is a great option its going to be my next phone.

Ermm. I wasn't aware of screen problem. How much time you own the phone? Does it happen on all models? Im planning to be D802ץ
I had it for six months.
Like i said it is an amaizing phone. But it has that one flaw. I had it on d80020y. Then updated to d80030f. But this seems to affect all models regardless of firmwire.
It doesnt matter if you never rom or root.
Research a little bit and you will see what i am talking about.

Hi,
I have my second G2 after I broke my first one. I liked it so much, I got a new (used) one. I don't regret it! Especially when I consider the stuff what you can do with it, custom tom, this, that... I I were you I'd buy the G2 and tweak it a little bit...
Never had any screen problems! Neither with the old phone not with this one...
Still good and enugh for you.
Best advice:
Go back and read our older posts from 2 years ago when the phone was new.
Now read some of the current posts from the people who still have the device such as myself.
Long story short, there's a reason why alot of us early adopters held onto our G2s without a need to upgrade.
Its that good
new or used?
If new, there are so many other better phones to be had. I would much rather get a 2014 moto x, a nexus 5x, a oneplus x, or a used iphone 6. While the g2 was/is a fantastic phone, it does have it's shortcomings - plastic and mediocre feeling build quality(compared to the moto x, oneplus x, and iphone 6), glossy back, non-conventional button placement, camera has poor dynamic range, no marshmallow update...
If used, the g2 can be a fantastic deal if you can get it cheap enough. The only thing to keep in mind is that the battery seems to only be good for 1.5-2 years max. Also, buying a 2+ year old used phone is inherently risky and it may or many not be 100%. I bought one in seemingly mint condition for $100 not too long ago and the battery had only 50% capacity. Also, the plastic back cover is creaky which is kind of annoying - this is a common complaint.
If you don't have a super tight budget go with one of the aforementioned newer, more premium phones. You will be MUCH happier.

Still a good device, i owned one when right after release , after few months went for a Nexus 5
Who died in water
Now got myself a lg g2 again
But this time a second hands korean f320l
With spare battery and sd slot
Flashed cloudyg2 3.3 on it
And runs superb

Still a good deal, phone is smooth as hell, the display is beautiful, the sizes are perfect (it has almost the same sizes as my 4.7" Nexus 4), if you can get a cheap one then go for it. Never had screen issues and I've been flashing things (that's when it gets really hot and screen problems can come out).

If you're buying it new and at a good price, you're getting a very special phone.
I just ordered two new batteries and some new casing - I'm going to keep this phone forever. It's already two years old.
No phone I've had has been better.
One thing. Don't get the 16gb. It's just too small now, your won't last a year more. It has to be the 32gb.
And don't bother with the G3, the battery will kill you.
Fantastic phone. I have the D801 (T-Mobile) version, and it has been problem - free from the start. Also have a Moto Maxx and a One M9, but if I could only keep one phone, I would actually choose the G2. It does everything well, and I haven't yet found a shortcoming.
Buy it!
I got my G2 D802 for £110 (brand new) on eBay (search it) . And God, it was was worth every penny. I think that unless you want a 64bit (slower) new processorprocessor, there is no reason to buy the newer budget phones like the Motorola Motor G, which are rather cheap quality with lower res screens, fatter bodies and not as good battery life.
Buy the G2, it's perfect in every way except for lack of SD card which is only a problem to some people. Also, you want to check out my review on my blog, interestconcentrated.blogspot.com/2015/09/week-2-with-g2.html. I bought less than two months, so it's very relevant. Hope it helps! ☺
Also, you might wanna check out the G3 on Ebay, it's available for £155
The default firmware sucks as it's poorly designed/ugly/slower than a custom rom like AICP. Really happy with the phone, my s3 sucks in comparison and the buttons are well placed on the g2. Only pitfall is battery life on a non-stock rom, marshmallow may fix that
Ive had the phone for about 16 months. Working perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with the phone. D802 also.
Pros -
Great screen
Great battery on Jellybean and Kitkat
Lg doesnt have too much bloatware
Sound output is best
Perfect size
Can run pretty much every game without lag
Cons -
Battery life is reduced on lollipop 5.0.2. We don't have a 5.1.
Camera is decent, nothing special.
If you do get the phone, i recommend flashing Cloudyg2 2.2. Not 3.3 which is lollipop. Just leave it at that.
Thanks everyone for your help! I think I'll be grabbing the G2. I might root it later on, but for now - it seems like a better idea is to stay on 4.2 and avoid upgrading to 5?
Thanks!

Keep your eyes on the forums as well.
Last week I saw an update for my G2 while I was in the process of repairing my screen.
I didn't download it but my guess is its 5.1.1 for Tmobile.
I've heard 5.1.1 fixed alot of Lollipop issues for Android in general.
If and when D802 gets this version I'd recommend you investigate and see if it may be a good stock ROM to use.
Also if you ever need to replace the battery in the future, don't fret. Its very easy process and takes 15-20 minutes
The upside is amazing battery life again just like brand new

Yes, stay on 4.4.2 20H firmware if you want to run stock. Disable all the bloat, use a different launcher and your good to go. :victory:
Just remember that all the Nexus 5.0.X firmware still had the memory leek. LG may have sorted it for there 5.0.2 but I wouldn't put money on it.
Hi, i think Lg G2 is still worth it, i bougth mine 4 months ago, and i am really happy with it.
It is fast, has Lte, a nice camera, despite it is a medium-bad camera at low light places.
I spent 250 euros on a promo. It was a nice deal i think
After i bougth it i flashed CM 12.1 eheh
I hope i could help!
Best regards
