[Q] D803 Phone freezes then reboots every few minutes - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's currently happening is my phone will boot and work normally except it appears the radio is not working then after 60-120 seconds freeze for a second then reboot. Wifi does work but I just see an x for the cell network signal and if I take out the SIM I get no notification. Curiously if I'm using the camera it seems to delay the rebooting by a few minutes.
I've tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 LG G2 Stock Firmware (Go Back to Stock) to no success, I was able to flash, it removed TWRP but I get the same symptoms anyway.
I've tried flashing the Rogers modem and this did not make a difference.
When I noticed this problem was when I was installing/testing some xposed modules, although it seems strange that they could break the phone in this way.
I've run out of ideas and although my phone isn't bricked per say it's near useless if it's going to reboot every minute or two. The phone doesn't reboot if I leave it in download mode or TWRP so this makes me think there's some hope.
Assuming it's not against the rules I'll PayPal anyone who comes up with the fix $50 CAD because right now I'm hooped.

Did you download and try flashing the exposed disabler zip file?
Sent from my LG-D803 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Of course there is hope!
All you gotta do is just download this ROM...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451592
Download it with your PC, then connect your phone to the PC to transfer the file.
The TWRP and flash it and that should fix it all.
Good luck

Do you have a gmail widget on your lockscreen? (Was worth a shot since others have reported varying issues with gmail widgets on the lockscreen).

I lost my recovery when I tried to go back to stock, and I can't seem to install any apps. I'm trying "upgrade recovery" from the LG Mobile Support Tool to see if that works. Otherwise I guess I have to find out how to root and flash a recovery entirely over ADB

I was able to restore the stock recovery and factory reset but that still didn't resolve the issue. Can someone provide a /system/ partition dump of a d803? I'm assuming there's something broken in there but I don't think flashing a ROM will solve that since flashing stock didn't seem to.

It's not a paperweight yet, I can adb. I rooted it through adb I'm just not sure what the xposed module broke. It has to be something that persists across flashing stock but I don't have anything to compare against.

EFS. Flash or push your backed up EFS.

I don't have one. I made a backup in TWRP but ended up losing it when trying to fix things :silly:. I believe I can still see my IMEI if that's any sign of things not being completely ****ed.

Hi I have LG G2 D802 . My problem is that my phone hangs a lot . I did hard reset but problem didnt go. After hard reset i tried to install custom built rom but still same problem. Then I re installed lolipop 5.0.2 still the same problem .. now
i have downgraded to kitkat and again same problem .. Even now when it hangs It turn off completely like it got bricked or something but it work some time and again after some use it hang.. now i have hardreset my device and putted on standby mood but phone was working fine after some use phone hanged again . I dont understand what is the problem with my LG G2

I am having the exact same problem on stock 4.4.2 with my D803. I have random reboots every few minutes. I suspect it is a hardware issue since the problem persisted even after returning to stock using kdz. Unfortunately, I don't have an EFS backup.
I have tried multiple other ROMS (CM12.1, DU, Cloudy 3.2 and 3.3) and all are even less usable than stock (reboots while I am doing the initial setup).
Any suggestions? I don't know what else to try and am ready to buy a new phone now as this G2 is basically unusable... I'd greatly appreciate any help.

If you have restored it to stock ....... and you still have the problem, u may have a short somewhere in the phone. The only thing that remains the same is the hardware .... u have changed the software

Slimbean 4.2.2 Build - media issues

Hi all,
I recently installed the newest build of Slimbean. I am having a few issues: I am unable to play any media... Music, videos (youtube). My phone app does not work. I cannot receive nor send any calls. And my phone produces no sounds at all.
I tried installing build 7 to see if it was an issue with the build I was using... didn't help.
Internet and wifi work without any problems.

I'd Odin back to stock and see if you still have the issue. If you do it's a hardware issue.

I did just that... But it's a bit of a story.
I had just fixed another problem I was having yesterday. Was getting stuck at the S4 splash screen right after powering on the phone. The problem was caused by TWRP 2.6 and formatting /data partition. Long story short, I installed CWM and used it to do a full wipe/format of partitions and then was able to install ROMs, restore backups without issue.
So today, since everything was working, I decided to flash a new custom ROM (which I installed) and the MG1 radio. Wasn't having any luck with the radio. Finally, I was able to flash a radio via mobile odin, but then I soft bricked my phone. Got stuck at the S4 splash screen (same issue I had yesterday, but this time, a different cause). So was troubleshooting it all day. Tried to go back to stock, no luck. Tried to restore the stock backup I had, no luck. Only thing I could do was install custom ROMs at this point to get into my phone (i.e. Slimbean, FoxHound, etc...). But, at this point, although I could boot into Android, I had no sound at all and couldn't play video. So after hours of trial and error, I installed CWM again (replacing TWRP 2.5.0.2), did a full wipe/format and tried to install a stock ROM. No luck. Still was hanging at the S4 splash screen. Then I tried to install this ROM again which I had luck with in the past; |ROM| |★VLUAMG1★| |CANADIAN||i337M||STOCK||ROOTED||July.26.13|. But his instructions said to install a wifi fix or fear soft bricking my phone. So I installed the wifi fix, but selected the wrong file (I know, stupid. Done a lot of stupid **** in the past couple days with this phone). Now, after the phone rebooted, I would see the S4 splash screen for a split second, and it would auto load into download (odin) mode. Couldn't get into recovery at all. So then I decided to flash one of the stock ROMs I tried earlier that didn't work, but this time, SUCCESS!!!!! Phone was booting and all sounds worked. I could make/receive phone calls as well... Everything seems to be working fine now. I find it funny that flashing a wifi fix that I shouldn't have seems to have fixed my issue in a sense. Since it allowed me to successfully flash a stock ROM. So I am making a backup of the stock ROM and will decide what I'm going to do from here.
Holy goalie!!! It's been a very vexing couple of days.
Nice that you got it all worked out, I've found out that if your "status" is custom, it will sometimes give you problems when flashing a "stock" rom via odin.
So what I always do when reverting back to the stock rom, I use triangle away to clear the flash count and make my phone back to "Official". If you want the steps to do this, let me know, it's not hard, but there are crucial steps to get this right!

[q] stuck in bootloop sprint ls980 please help!!!!

OK to start off i am not a noob at this, i have read though the forms and cant seem to find out why my phone will not come out of this bootloop. This started happening 2 days ago when I went to install a new rom on my phone. I powered down my phone, put it in recovery (Twrp), I wiped everything but internal storage. I then processed to flash the new rom. Everything went great. My phone rebooted and worked fine for the first 1 min, when i tried to pull down the notification bar the phone stuck off and went into a bootloop. I then tried to go back to my old rom and had the same problem (notification bar would not pull down). So i went to plan B and used the Back To Stock Form to restore the phone back to stock. The process went smooth as well not a problem at all. When the phone started up it allowed me to set up the voice navigation and name of the phone, as i went to update the prl and profile the phone shut off again, when it turned back on it starts normally and the goes to the lock screen where i am unable to make any iterations with the screen at all besides when it turns the blacklight off, as i try to use the knock on the LED light turns white but the screen will not turn back on (not even with the power button). Then it reboots to the lockscreen again and continues to do it until i manually force it off. I have tried everything from redownloading the firmware files, tried back to stock 3 times, hard factory reset, and reset in recovery mode. My phone is back to stock but i am unable to do anything with it unless i factory reset and go though the set up again, but even then i cant get a connection (even with wifi) without the phone shutting off and rebooting. Everytime the phone reboots the time reads 12:00am and switches to 12:01 really quick. I cant get a connection at ALL (I EVEN TRIED REMOVING THE SIMS AND AND PUT IT BACK IN AFTER BACK TO STOCK PROCESS.)
Im not sure if the application Dr.Web could possibly be making my phone do this. I did have it installed and did not remove before I tried to switch to the new rom. The anti-theft part was active.
SOMEONE PLEASE BE MY HERO AND HELP........I REALLY WOULD HATE TO DEAL WITH LG ON THIS ISSUE IF I CAN FIX IT MYSELF
THANKS TO EVEYONE THAT SUPPORTS AN ANSWER

I did make a backup before flashing the rom. when i tried to go back to it i had the same problem with it rebooting after a few mins. i tried flashing furnace 0.0.8 kernel after installing a fresh rom but same problem. I am back on factory recovery atm is there anyway to flash twrp back to the phone without it being rooted? i tried to get the computer to communicate with the phone when it turns on but it wont seem to connect unless im in download mode or recovery.

I had the same problem except with me, i was just trying to change fonts manually. It went into a bootloop and i stressed dover it for hours until finally i found out that you have to use the lg mobile support tool (you can find it in one of these threads on the lg g2) and revert it back to stock. That fixed it perfectly fine. Its a lengthy process but simple. If that doesn't work you have to do what the lg mobile support tool does semi-manually with another program lg flash tool which is longer but just as simple if you follow the directions given in the thread to the letter.

they have coders there, I'm sure if they really want to know they can figure it out. If you send it in to get it fix out of your own pockets (meaning you pay them) then i'm sure they dont care, but if you want a replacement due to warranty then it may be a different story.

I eneded up restoreing my phone back to stock and took it into my local sprint store it cost ne 75 dollars to replace the phone not under warranty (if u have sprint protection its free) i told them i took and ota update and it started rebooting itself. If you do get a replacement make sure u back up your efs files to a safe place on your phone. Theses files can become corrupted by flashing roms and kernals.

Not under warranty? Doesn't it have a 1 year manufacturer warranty? The G2 wasn't released on Sprint until November last year so it should have been covered.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
Yes its still under manufacturer warranty but when i made a repair order with lg it said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get my phone back and if they found out it was due to being rooted and flashing roms im sure lg would of charged a arm a leg to repair it. With sprint i got a new phone in 2 days or ordering it.

[Q] Ive created a monster!!!! I need help. LS980 no network.

Long story short (I can go into more detail if needed):
Had a stock rooted rom with a zv8 radio/modem on sprint. I successfully flashed the Optimus 2.2 rom with the new ZVA (Sprint Spark) modem and everything was fine and dandy and working perfectly for a few hours. Then i was a dummy and restored apps from my previous roms using mybackup and one of those apps was the xposed installer with a few different modules.
Phone froze, rebooted and would no longer attatch to a network. No signal, just a red x. No radios work, not even wifi or bluetooth. If the screen goes blank the phone will freeze and bootcycle. Or if it is on for more then a minute, it will freeze and turn off and get stuck in a bootloop.
Recovery worked. I tried everything. Flashing other roms, with the appropriate radios of course, and restoring my backup with the appropriate radio. Nothing works, and ive had the same issue with each and every rom and radio.
I finally whipped out lgflashtool and returned to stock unrooted to no avail. Same issue, except now my touchscreen is not responsive, which means no adb to reroot and the pc doesn't recognize the phone while booted. Now im aware of a method using Ubuntu to get a custom recovery on these when all else fails, but is it worth my time if there is no fixing my issue?
Also, how much can you do with the lgflashtool? Can i flash different radios or root using it?
Worst case scenario i will take my phone to sprint and get a warranty replacement. The only issue with that is, while the rootchecker in download mode shows "unrooted" , the boot animation on the stock .tot image is an lg one, not the Sprint logo one and i feel like the service person would catch on. Any idea on how to change that as well?
Thanks in advance guys! Im kind of freaking out that im running out of options.

Fix for people with a corrupt EFS (No network connection or bluetooth)

A few people have had issues with the EFS getting corrupt or wiped on their OPO before they had a working backup. This guide has so far worked for 4 people to restore their EFS allowing them to access mobile data and bluetooth again.
Note: I really don't know why this works, I have contacted the dev of this rom to ask if he has any ideas but still waiting on a response.
1. Flash official TWRP
2. Flash this ColorOS rom using TWRP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2772627 (you can skip all the account setups if you want)
3. Factory reset
4. Boot and setup ColorOS (you should see a network connect now with your sim card inserted, you will need to toggle mobile data on to test that)
5. If you have data in ColorOS you are good to flash back to CM11S anyway you want (you will need to factor reset after flashing back)
6. Save yourself the headache in the future and backup your EFS
Please post if this fix works for you.:victory:
Edit: I've went ahead and downloaded the ROM and I will hold on to it incase the original mirrors go down for some reason. Please PM me if they do.
One of the ones who can confirm this works. Will post in the official thread.
Worked for me also.
Wholy moly ... I have a mobile data network !!
Still on ColorOS, but this is VERY promising !!!
IMEI is correct, it's the one on the box !
Still no WiFi nor Bluetooh mac addresses, though...
Will keep you posted, but this is a HUGE step forward !
Thanx a lot for sharing this !
BTW, serial number is still unchanged and correct.
JP.
EDIT:
Unfortunately it didn't fix my issue, back to CM11S I am greeted by an AudioFX FC... Device pretty much unusable, the FC pops up the milisecond you click OK ...
Will try a different ROM...
EDIT 2:
SlimKat, CM11 Nightly both boot to the welcome screen, then reboot about 1 second later.
Only ColorOS seems to actually run ?!
A bit disgusted right now

Odd, maybe you could try using TWRP to delete everything again including system, then sideload and boot ColorOS.

Official TWRP doesn't have EFS backup in it, you have the get the unofficial one http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/recovery-unofficial-twrp-2-7-1-0-t2815247

To add to that you can just boot the unofficial recovery using "fastboot boot recovery.img" to do your efs backup if you would prefer to keep the official TWRP installed. That way it only boots that recovery to allow you to do the backup of your EFS partition and doesn't erase your current recovery. That's how I did it.

WOW thanks, i do it and and i tell you how did it go in a few minutes.
I see that the OP has been thanked and this thread has a few success stories so I am giving it a bump for others to view in case of the same issue.
I just flashed the factory image... I never had the problem again

Im having the same problem as you have Yank555. It started with the AudioFX FCs rendering the device useless.
Next i tried to reflash the standard CM11s 25R rom back to get my phone normal again, it didnt work.
Then i remember i have a nandroid from a few days ago. Not thinking to read up on known issues with the OPO EFS i tried a restore.
My EFS is gone and the phone will not work unless im on ColourOs120. Wifi doesnt work, just basic phone functions.
Still waiting for a miracle for this problem.
Any suggestion guys?

Did you open a service request ? Any response ? So far all I got 5 days later was a "please fastboot flash factory images, case closed." which quite obviously did not help, so case reopened, but again nothing from them in 4 days, now.
But I wonder if my first thought is still correct, flawed emmc as flashing seems to work ... might be a radio hardware issue ? Just don't quite get what the AudioFX has to do with that... cause simply rooting the device and installing apps and making a few nandroid backups is no way to brick anything.
But anyway, tbh, OnePlus is mostly dead to me as a company, worst invest ever so far, nice if your device works, but service is not even close to bad, it's pretty much non-existing ... and for a supposedly "best service ever" it's quite, let's say, "impressing"

Nope, i have not tried opening a ticket, mine is a grey import from China.
There is something terribly wrong somewhere hardware wise. The audiofx problem only happens if i flash the CM11s. After ColourOS i have tried flashing the CM11 M8.
Im also wondering if i should try to use this OPO made rom to see if it can help.

Give it a go, not much to lose. Didn't work for me, though.
JP.
Sent from my Nexus 5 running stock rooted AOSP on Yank555.lu v1.0-alpha5 kernel.
This worked for me! I'm back in business! Thanks guys for getting this figured out, I thought my phone was done.
I hate to bring this back up.
I have a Nandroid of my stock CM11S on my phone. I used it for the update to 300 to get firmware, then made a backup of it and went back to the custom Rom I had been on.
Today, I went and restored the backup of CM11S to sideload the newest update. Weirdly, after restoring I have an unknown baseband. But if I go back to the custom Rom backup I still have a baseband.
I wonder if TWRP just didn't backup the correct partitions? I am on the offficial TWRP. But I do have a backup that contains my EFS backup from the other TWRP that has that option.
I think I know what corrupted my efs....I used the official twrp 2.7.1.1 which for some reason saves modemst1. I remember restoring st1 when I corrupted it the first time with the official 2.7.1.1. Well I did it again trying to restore a nandroid with the official twrp 2.7.1.1. Do not restore the saved modemst1 from the official twrp 2.7.1.1. You will encounter problems.
So, this same thing happened to me...i happily using 30O and not really any issues and getting good battery life~17 hrs w/moderate use. And no other bugs.
Found the 33R update here on the forums and downloaded it and flashed through TWRP.
Thats when trouble found me, lost network and wifi stuck trying to turn on but never finds wifi. Then reading through xda someone suggested to check IMEI and it was gone. I had NOT done any prior back ups other than Nandroid prior to flashing update.
Restore still didn't fix it.
I tried this (flash ColorOS and CM11) but still didnt fix it. I was bummed as my OPO is very new and I had been happy with it.
CM11 or by restore, windows will not detect it even with drivers loaded. Flashing colorOS would allow windows XP to recognize internal and allow me to send files so i tried custom ROMs and CM stock and Mahdi but none worked. Luckily my TWRP still works and i am able to boot and get into fasboot.
I finally got mine fixed with rooted stock 33R from here on xda!
Now my OPO is back in business!!!
Save st1 and st2 with vonnegut's method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54623075.. Put it in a safe place for later. I uploaded them to google drive and onedrive . It saved me today.
For those of you that were able to recover, did you lose your entire EFS folder? Mine is completely gone and I don't think this ColorOS trick works either. I've tried it all last night and I fell asleep at my desk

Phone Semi-BrickeD?

Main:
Ok, so I was waiting until i got a new phone so i can root my g2, well never happened as my g2 decided to randomly freeze up and restart and get stuck in boot loops either on the LG logo, or freeze on the T-mobile splashscreen and restart infinately. So now i got a new phone and i want to root the old one, But first up I need to figure out what is causing the random boot loops, freezing, and shut offs. It's a T-Mobile variant
ALSO: IT WAS NEVER ROOTED, So it's not a root related issue.
NOTES:
plugging it in help increase chances of escaping loop
It doesn't require a plug in to fix but it helps.
Reboot/Glitching occur when phone is in use and out of use.
Phone works normally otherwise but suffers these glitches
Phone has be factory reset twice
Phone has no external damage
Possible Internal:
Broken L. speaker due to rain
Maybe water damage from steam (phone was on counter as i showered a few times)
possible battery issue
Maybe a bit of drop damage as i did drop it a bit, but it was in a tech21 impactology case, and it remains not cracked
I have a similar issue. The phone will loop the LG logo, but only sometimes--at other times it will poop android's boot animation until it decides it wants to boot normally.
It happens in every ROM(ota or cuatom) even after flashing the stock .tot file about 4 times, so it's clearly a hardware defect for me & probably you too. I read the logs & saw rtc blah blah time will be lost on reboot & other errors. During normal use it randomly freezes prior to rebooting itself, though it reboots even while idle for long periods.
Unfortunately I don't have a solution for your problem besides restoring the stock image.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
After that you can trade the phone in, sell it, or send it to LG.

So If i reflash to STOCK will it work for a short time normally and in x weeks/months resort to it's retardism of loops

It fixed my problem temporarily, but not too long afterwards all the issues came crawling back. For this reason I suggested ditching the phone completely unless you really want LG to examine it.

Since i own 2 G2's is it worth my time re flashing to stock and then rooting the phone, cause i plan to run my sim carded phone as my normaly device and my root would handle experiment tech uses and hacked apps/superuser apps and such stuff

I've heard of the random reboot issue. Fixes have been created and detailed. Please give me the following info, and I can help you resolve the problem:
Current Baseband Version
Current Bootstack / Modem
Root status in recovery
Current ROM and Carrier
Current Recovery
I'm having the exact same issue with my D800. I was rooted and had run a couple of ROMs but returned to stock right after I started experiencing the reboots. Unfortunately, the return to unrooted stock - and upgrade to lollipop - didn't fix the random reboot issue.
I've noticed that when my phone shuts off I typically need to hold down the power button at least a min to get it back up and running. And when I get it back up and running the battery stats show a substantial drop in battery - between 5-10%. I took it to a local shop and they said it was a bad motherboard. I've read some threads about shorting some pins on the MB and then reinstalling pieces of the boot image piece by piece and then use the LG Flash tool to reinstall the OS.
I haven't tried it out yet but is this the fix you have in mind @dmezh?

What I had in mind is a multi-step solution that didn't involve opening the device - we can try it, and if it doesn't work then I guess you should try it. I've never actually heard of the pin-shorting, can you post links to the threads?
Anyways, this is roughly what we can try (I can give you all the files you need if you give the info from my first post):
1. Get to fastboot
2. Reflash laf, recovery, boot, modem, sbl1, and a bunch of other things
3. Reboot to download mode
4. Reinstall the kitkat TOT
5. Install custom recovery and wipe all partitions
6. Kitkat TOT again
7. Factory reset (yes, even though this is a fresh install)
8. Reflash laf, recovery, boot, modem, sbl1, and a bunch of other things AGAIN
I've tried these steps before on a friend's VS980 and they seemed to fix the problem. I know that this seems overly complex, but it has been documented in other threads. Provide the info, I'll get the files, and let's get started.
I have all of the D800 files I need to restore the KitKat partitions downloaded here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d5b_osUTug but am not sure how to get the phone into a mode that I can flash the .img files I have into the right locations. I follow what you are proposing I do - just not sure how to get there.
Current Baseband Version: M8974A-AAAANAZN-1.0.19.128
Current Bootstack / Modem - not sure
Root status in recovery: not rooted stock lollipop
Current ROM and Carrier: 5.0.2 AT&T
Current Recovery: Stock Recovery

The pin-shorting manually puts the device into a Qualcomm fallback mode, but this is not necessary if we can just get it to go to fastboot (the images can be flashed from there as well). The only time I've been in fastboot on the G2 was when I flashed a VS980 recovery on an LS980 with AutoRec. Fastboot is triggered if any of a set of five partitions are corrupted.... so we may need to corrupt a partition. I'll try this on one of my devices first before I instruct you to do it.

Did you have a chance to try this out? It sounds like a good way to get the phone into fastboot but am reluctant to try without knowing if it's going to work. Thanks for your suggestions so far - and no rush on getting back I have a working backup phone at the moment.
