Android system & android os seem to be draining my battery quite alot. An unusual amount. Anyone have any idea why?

20 Hours at 63 percent? That is outstanding battery time..
I dont see why your complaining.. I get close to 2 days on my battery with average use..
Looks pretty normal to me.. In fact better than most IMO

But the Android os and system don't start until I actually use the device. It's only 2 hours on screen time

Check this thread out if youre on 4.4.2 kitkat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595158
4.4.2 battery life is terrible
Your battery drain might be due to google play services and other apps running in the background

its the new google services update, i have this problem on my note 3 too, its annoying.
Oh weird, yeah my nexus 4 doesn't do it only the 7

What's so weird about that? Your device has been on for nearly 8 hours and it's at 73% battery life. You've clearly not been using the device very much in that time, so obviously the system processes will have a higher percentage than anything else.
Exactly the same thing happened with me today. I've never had android system consuming more battery than my screen, and today the android system battery consumption stood at almost 50% (twice that of screen). The tablet was idle for around 12 hours (WiFi off) and the battery fell by around 15%. Never ever happened before.
I upgraded to 4.2 a couple of days back.

Do you use Llama or any other app like that by any chance? I'm just trying to figure out what could be the root cause of this
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
same for me with the new 3g 32gb and 4.2
tablet been on 3 hours and 36 mins done nothing with it and its already used 25% battery
Android OS is at 64%
old 16gb with 4.2 on, same time and just sitting doing nothing only used 3% battery
Android OS at 4%
any thoughts ??
Bob
Haven't been able to figure out the reason unfortunately. If I do, would definitely post on here. Hope you guys would do the same.

Updated to 4.2.1 with new 32 gig nexus 7. I've heard lots of people have been getting bad battery life with 4.2.1 update. Is mine good or bad? Attached screenshot.
Thanks

It really depends on your screen on time. I'd say getting 5-7 hours of screen on time would be considered good battery life.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I personally wouldn't consider that good battery life, however I'm spoiled in a sense. I never kept my tablet stock, modded from day 1. But I'm sitting at 85% right now with 4hrs screen on browsing web and xda and it was fresh off the charger. I also get over a week of standby time when it sits.

Which kernel and settings are you using? Thanks!

Yes which ROM and kernel are you using? 4.2.1 seems to have bad battery life. Mine is just rooted

I have a question how is the battery when you have low to no signal is it as bad as my one x? I am still going to get it no matter what but I just wanted to know

Nexus 4 is way better, i`am 12,5 hrs. off the charger and lost 24% with 1 hour of screenontime. Cell standy is 10% for me.
Well I have no signal at all over 70% of the time...

I guess I am the only one that gets no signal at school...

All phones are like this really, even with dumbphones. Low signal = higher battery use.
On that note, my N4 gets much better reception than my Galaxy Nexus ever did.
I also use Tasker and either a CM ROM or custom ROM with CM commits and have Tasker switch to 2G in places I am regularly in (like campus, it can figure this out by cell tower location or wifi proximity/connection), this saves a tremendous amount of battery.
The reason it's bad in a low/no signal area is that the radio uses more power trying to find/use the signal.

OK I will try this out. Thanks for the info.

Screen on is 2 and a half hours but I've heard people say they use this phone way more than I use mine and they still get like 14 hours
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk now Free
Something on the phone is causing the CPU to never go to sleep and looks like it is staying at a somewhat high speed as well. When I get a wakelock and am stuck at the lowest speed my phone will drain 50-60% over an 8 hour period, so you must be stuck somewhere in the 500-600MHz range.
I've had my screen on for a while cause of texting also not really any browsing or anything else

Try this app to find out what it truly using up you battery. I found this app so helpful that I bought the Pro Version.
Download cpu spy from the play store, and let it run for a charge cycle (it's a free, good quality app and super easy to use). The majority of the time the cpu should be in either 300mhz or deep sleep. Honestly with that kind of battery life, your phone or battery could be defective.
2 hours on the phone did this to my battery. Screen time was 48 mins. Screen was off on call using BT. Phone was red hot after call

It is something you installed or something on your setting up the phone.
this phone battery is amazing , trust me it is.
I get screen on times , unthinkable to my previous phones with brightness way way higher
so.. just try to figure out what is eating your batt and why.
edit:
then again you didnt start your battery log with 100% batt
and your drain was due to a very phone cal (?) With screen off, but your network signal suck really bad, maybe is from there ? But even with low coverage I find it hard to imagine that drain.
But then again.. never had low coverage ..
Yeah I can assure you it's something in your settings that is giving you poor life. You didn't give much description of what they are so it's tough for me to help you with what to fix, or how much knowledge you already have. I recommend BetterBatteryStats and Battery Mix for starters.
Install BBS (Better Battery Stats) and find the rogue application that is causing battery drain.
Battery life for me is amazing. I get close to 28-30 hours with mid - heavy usage.

Your signal during this two hour call was awful. Keeping a connection while not using the phone is a battery sucker in these conditions. I imagine it is much more so when you are actually on the phone. I'd suspect that as the culprit, as the radio has to be pumped up to the max constantly, instead of every minute or so.
I had a note 2 on same network and never saw this kind of drain. I think this qualcomm chip is ****. In my settings my cpu was at 2.27ghz for 1 hour 43 mins! Why was my cpu maxed out while making a simple call.?
