Trigger Google Now via handsfree support? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I'm wondering if there is any app that can help me trigger google now from a car using a basic bluetooth commands from the car stereo.
By this, I mean pressing a combinations of bluetooth commands to trigger it (for example, forward-forward-rewind-forward from the steering wheel controls of a car)
The reasoning is that Google Now can already use bluetooth mics to receive commands - the only difficult part is starting up google now when moving (without getting a ticket!)
could this be possible with tasker?
Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure whether it works across bluetooth, but I'm able to bring up voice command with headset button controller on my wired headset by setting a custom remote button pattern.

I'm wondering this too - however I'm wondering if there's some sort of dialler 'middle man' app I could use.. say when I dial '1234' from bluetooth, it runs a custom task (eg triggering google now) - surely someone has written something like that?

upgrade your call button from voice dialer to google now: http://hackerspace.lifehacker.com/reassign-your-bluetooth-phone-button-to-open-google-n-1507391132

Assign function to wired headset talk button?

Please note that I am asking about the original wired/USB headset that is shipped with the Hermes, *not* a bluetooth headset.
Is there any way to assign a function (such as Voice Command) to the push-to-talk button on the wired headset?
There is a program available for the Wizard that does this:
"Talk Button Detector":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=264308&highlight=talk+button+detector
Unfortunately this program does not appear to work on the Hermes, and the source code is not linked.
Any help is appreciated.
Have the same problem
I'd also like to use the genuine HTC wired headset (the one which comes with PDA) to make calls using Microsoft Voice Command. But the button calls embedded dialer instead of Voice commander. Any ideas how to fix this?

what determines whether BT button on car stereo starts dialing or voice command?

I recently had a Pioneer aftermarket stereo in my car and it was extremely convenient: hitting the phone button on the stereo immediately launched voice command through the radio's sound system, so that I could dial by voice and never have to take the phone out of my pocket, unlock it, etc. My car was totaled in a crash and in the new vehicle there's a separate BT system which doesn't do any of this - it pairs and calls come through it, but it won't activate voice dial; it can only dial the numbers stored in its own (local, limited) memory and won't let me give the phone other commands. So I'm thinking of replacing it, but I need to know: what feature am I looking for that enables the radio to connect to the phone and launch voice command without me having to touch the phone at all? What determines this? How do I know which stereo will activate VoiceCommand and which will only dial?
Thanks,
Mike
I thought it was the vendor/radio that determines what the buttons do. Same problem here, buttons don't always do what I want them to!

seems reasonable, but what feature is it? When trying to pick the right vendor/radio, what am I looking for specifically? The salesmen know nothing about BlueTooth and VoiceCommand... What BT signal/message is being sent to the phone to activate ViceCommand?
Mike
The Voicecommand signal. I think your radio company decides which buttons have what functionality. If your phone doesn't have features that the radio has or vice versa, then it doens't work. The newest rom posted has, based on what I've read and seen, slightly improved BT functionality. (Although music by BT sucks, argh.)

[Q] Voice Dialing in Xperia Arc with Headset

Hi,
I'm considering buying an Arc which will be my first Android phone.
I understand that voice dialing is supported in the OS level but since there's no hardware search key, it can only be activated via the on-screen widget.
My question is, to Arc owners, is whether there's a way to activate voice commands without using the screen with a bluetooth or wired headset?
In an old Nokia device I had, pressing the bluetooth headset button once launched voice dial, something like that.
Thanks in advance.

Yes. As you said, you push the button on your headset and voice command is activate (you can say whatever you want) I have used it to call people. If you want me to try anything just let me know.

[Q] Different Bluetooth Profiles for One Device?

Here's the situation: I have a bluetooth headset that I use in my car for phone calls only, and the media audio goes out of the Car Dock 3.5mm connector. When I work out, I use the bluetooth headset for phone calls AND media audio to listen to music through it.
Question: Is there an APP of some sort that would allow me to create somewhat of a bluetooth profile for my bluetooth headset that would quickly change the bluetooth settings on my headset?
I tried doing some searches, but I was unable to find anyone who has this situation, and I wasn't able to find a Market APP that appeared to do what I want; does anyone know of one?

I had a simular situation, sort of. I have a Blue Ant S4 in the jeep that I wanted to always launch Vlingo In-Car when connected, and a Motorola head set that I want to always launch "Voice Controls" when it is connected. I found that with Tasker I was able to do exactly what I wanted. I don't know that Tasker will do exactly what you want, but maybe you can get "close enough"

That is quite an app, looks like it can do alot, but not what I need to be done. I will definitely try Tasker out, possibly for other reasons, so thank you for the idea.
At this time, Tasker can't change Bluetooth settings/device profiles.

[Q] How do I use voice commands with bluetooth?

I recently purchased a bluetooth receiver for my car, but when I push the button the only option my N4 gives me is to dial a contact. Is there a way to make it use any voice command, i.e. "navigate to 123 Xyz Street" or "send text message....", or "what is the temperature in Chicago?" etc.?
Anybody?
I guess nobody else is interested in actually doing useful things via bluetooth? Seriously, Google Now Search can dial contacts, why can't I use that via bluetooth instead of the limited voice dialer?

I have my phone installed in a holder on my dash. I simply just use google voice commands to do everhting regards to dialing (just do it from my phone instead of from my car). My bluetooth is limited in my car. Not sure if there is any work-around.
Not positive about this, but I believe it may be headset/device dependent...as in not all Bluetooth devices allow you to utilize voice commands through your phone.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I don't know if this is still the case, but a couple of years ago when Google first supported voice dialing via Bluetooth, the problem they cited was that the bit rate for audio via Bluetooth was insufficient for their voice recognition software. I haven't tried it with the N4, but if it still doesn't work, that could be the reason.
