I updated my nexus 4 from paranoid 4.2.2 to 4.4.x beta2 I think I flash franko custom kernel and thats why I lost my root how can I root my phone ?
I didn't like the beta version can I go back from 4.4 to 4.2.2?

Did you try flashing SuperSU from recovery?

Yes you can root your phone. Download the SuperSU and flash it via Custom recovery. Yes you can go back to 4.2.2. Make sure to flash 4.2.2 bootloader.

I found a guide that works great for downgrading. Instead of using 4.4 image; you will use 4.2.2 and follow below guide.

I would wipe cache/dalvik cache and format system in mounts and storage, and flash the PA rom and the latest PA google apps.
Go Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020336
Then download the latest PA rom here:
http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/mako/pa_mako-3.00-15FEB2013-223348.zip
After that download the GAPPS:
http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/gapps/pa_gapps-full-4.2-20130209.zip
Next, you download the bootloader and baseband for 4.2.2 here
http://www.mediafire.com/?xvdybg0o4pkhfse
After you have finished downloading everything, save whatever you need on your phone on your computer/cloud storage or whatever saving method you use and put all of the above files into your phone. Boot into recovery and start wiping. Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. wipe system, and factory reset. Once you're done wiping, go to the files and flash them all one by one until you're finished. Finally, reboot and you're finished.

Nope. You have to manually install them yourself. Last time I checked..we had to do it ourselves.

Against the growing? Hm. I think you meant ground. The Nexus 4 doesn't want you to type something so harsh on it! Lol.

[Q] HELP! Stuck in a boot loop :(

*RESOLVED*
I tried to update to 4.2.2 manually and got stuck in a bootloop. The first time, I got an error message (attached) and rebooted, so I went into Voodoo Root protector and deleted my backup of SU thinking that could be the problem. I tried again, got the same error, and now I'm in a bootloop. I am on stock Android 4.2.1 and using Franco Kernel r72. Please help me.
Thanks.
wipe data then reflash your rom

If you have unlocked bootloader, download Nexus 4 image from here, unzip it to get the various factory images and then flash using fastboot. If you have locked bootloader, you will have to unlock it using
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
.
CAUTION: This will wipe all data.
Follow this guide to re-root and install CWM.

Is there any way for me to keep my data? How do I cleanly do it? If I do need to wipe data, what do I do? Do I just go into CWM and tell it to wipe the data and then flash the operating system? I saw some instructions that had me flashing all sorts of stuff (i.e. radios etc). Sorry for all the questions.

My bootloader is unlocked. What exactly do I flash from the 4.2.2 image? Do I need to wipe my data first or is my data just wiped in the process?

yes, in cwm. wipe data then flash the rom. you can try just reflashing your rom first, without wiping data. if it still bootloops, then wipe data and reflash. flashing the system img via fastboit will wipe everything.

Since you aren't running the stock kernel, one of the kernel modules failed an md5sum check for a patch and the install stopped before attempting to patch a file that wasn't equal to what it was expecting.
a wipe data/factory reset in Recovery Mode can solve this bootloop, especially after you have just flashed a ROM.

Flashing from fastboot will automatically clear all data. There should be a system.img file. Flash it using
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
But to make a clean install, I would recommend you flash all the factory images. Refer this for more detail.

reflash the rom. franco kernel isnt flashable in recovery, you need to flash it via fastboot(.img file not a .zip).

Flashing the factory images will have restored the stock kernel.
If you are going to flash a factory image or anything like that, watch this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039162
after you flash that ROM, if your phone stucks in a bootloop, then go to Recovery, wipe cache and reset factory will solve the problem.

na, the kernel is always included in the rom. you flash a kernel if you want to use a different kernel(trinity is great with stock).
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your help. I have flashed stock 4.2.2 to my phone and have finished setting everything up. I really appreciate the quick responses and dedication to my issue. It means a lot to me that you guys helped me in my time of need. Thanks again.

[Q] From ParanoidAndroid 4.3 to SlimBean 4.2.2

hi guys!
on my nexus 4 i have installed ParanoidAndroid 4.3 (ver 3.92) with own bootloader and radio.
now i would change rom and install SlimBean 8 (based on android 4.2.2): can i flash rom and gapps normally or i need bootloader and radio from android 4.2.2?
thanks.
There is a radio and bootloader flashable zip for the recovery, you have to reboot back to recovery also wiping the data and such to get it working and then you can proceed in flashing the custom rom.
Download and flash the first zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147194

so i download the file that you have shown me, the rom and gapps and then I wipe and flash of all the files as usual, right?

Need someone to double check my steps

Alright, so I've decided on what I want to use rom and kernel wise, and want someone to double check that they are compatible, and I have the right versions.
I would appreciate if someone would check that I have the right steps and files.
KERNEL:
From:
http://minooch.com/franciscofranco/Nexus4/4.3/zips/
Have:
franco.Kernel-nightly-r182.zip (this is JWR, right?)
ROM:
From:
http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/mako
Have:
pa_mako-3.99-20130823.zip
From:
http://download.paranoidandroid.co/Developers/TLKruzze/gapps/
Have:
pa_gapps-full-4.3-20130822-signed.zip
STEPS:
This is coming from a fresh out of box nexus, so stock 4.3.
1. Typical unlock bootloader, root, flash recovery, etc. I'll probably just use this toolkit for this.
2. Recovery
3. Wipe
4. Flash rom
5. Flash GApps
6. Wipe cache
7. Wipe dalvik cache
8. Boot to make sure it works
9. Recovery
10. Flash kernel zip
11. Reboot
Are those steps and files all correct, or am I missing something?
Thanks!
That's what I'm running now. No issues.
Personally I'd do it with adb for when something goes wrong you know how to fix it. When I unlocked and flashed recovery on my phone, everything wiped, even the stock rom was gone. Luckily I learned adb with my galaxy nexus and was able to restore the factory images with fastboot (minus recovery) and start over.
Also don't use the newest twrp. It was wiping my baseband and I reverted to the last version through fastboot to get it working.

Eh, I still prefer toolkits, even if there is a small risk.
The toolkit will be running CWM, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks!

Before installing the ROM you should wipe data, cache, dalvick , system and if you are coming from 4.2.2 based ROM you have do a factory reset before wiping.
Also after flashing the kernel you need to flash Supersu v1.51 zip so that you dont face any root issues.
P.S : Enable the developer option and enable root with app+adb.
Rest you are right and good to go.
Welcome. :good:
As far as wiping goes u can do a few additional steps to make sure there's no issues.
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Go into mounts and storage
4. Format /system
5. Format /data
6. Format /cache
7. Go into advanced wipe /dalvik

DONT ODIN FIRMWARE FLASH 4.3!!! YOU WILL UPGRADE YOUR BOOTLOADER!!! KNOX BAD!!!
Try the official CWM from ROM manager. Trust me.
Go into ODIN mode and if you see knox then you are on new bootloader.
If not, don`t flash a 4.3 image with ODIN. You will not be able to go back to 4.2 easily
