Lcd turning brown - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone had this happen to their note 3? It started on the side and it was very small. Has gradually grown over the past couple of days.

Looking at the color again, it seems as though the color is dark yellow.

Notes have LED screens... your title says LCD.
Are you asking if this is a common thing (Notes with obviously damaged displays), or if it's a secret feature of the Note to bleed a color across the display over the span of a "couple of days" (it's not). I would order a replacement.

Technically the note has an OLED sreen...
And LEDs are LCDs. LEDs just have better light placement with the addition of being edge lit.
OLEDs also provide power to individual pixels and produce a better range of color and can produce true blacks by turning the pixel off. Where as LCDs and LEDs cannot.

I understand the subtle differences between the two; different matrix layouts, different lighting capacities, etc., but their similarities don’t make them interchangeable. An incandescent bulb and a halogen bulb are practically the same (do the same thing, have the same physical components) but they have different names because they execute light emission differently... the same applies here. If an LED screen has a capacity that an LCD screen does not (true blacks), they aren't the same. I wasn't trying to be condescending in my first post if thats how it came across.
Anyway, Im sure we all agree that the display in the original post is not common and should be taken care of... unless I missed the part about OLED's having monthly cycles lol. Good luck OP

That looks like what Lux will do to control display brightness. Do you have any 3rd party software overriding the brightness setting?

Yellow Tint

So on low brightness the whites seem a bit yellow. Can anyone confirm this?

Sent from my GT-I9300
Its a common problem, at 0% brightness white is a tad yellow but still its much better than having blue/green or pink tint.I've tested lots of S3's in various stores all shows same phenomenon so getting your set swapped wont solve any purpose.

Well even at high brightness settings it looks a bit yellow. When I tilt the phone it looks more white and when I tilt it back you can clearly see the white is a bit yellow.

Yes its a "Bit" yellow on low brightness but on high brightness mine is pure white, its common with AMOLED they are unable to attain LCD whites. However this doesn't bother me much because I'm used to it now, keep in mind its not an tint screen is tuned bit warmer.

Well.. It even seems to be a pretty pink compared to the GS Plus. Both at full brightness.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I think it's configured this way because blue pixels expire the quickest in amoled screens </not expert opinion>.
In either case, past phones have been able to use color controls like supercurio's app to change the tint. (And, by then you might've gotten used to it anyway.)

Does it matter which screen setting you have enabled in the Settings app or is it on all of them?

It does, but not that much. Watch the video in this post. Towards the end, the reviewer does a crush comparison with the s3
I tested my own display with the same gradient chart shes using and it looks the same I can see to 3 on that chart. Ive also ome across some netflix movies where the shadows clip on the S4, but not on my LCD. Again, nothing major, but its still there.....atleast on my device.
A little here, has been a thing on every OLED/AMOLED device I've ever owned.
No biggie.

There are some of us, me included, who see a red tint to blacks in a dark room. The red subpixels seem to stay on. Some folks say they have pure blacks even in the dark.
Now I dont see pink text when scrolling, but maybe your eyes are sensitive enough to see the red from blacks bleed into the text.
Do you see a red tint in blacks in low light? If so, that might explain the pink text
Sad to say, the S4 actually clips more than my galaxy nexus. A clear indication of this is in Phase Beam live wallpaper. The S4 has a trouble doing a smooth gradient on the purple shadow on the lower right hand of the wallpaper. It just shows a blocky purple shape in this area. The Gnex shows a nice gradient. Bit of a disappointment
Made a video of it. Went into AT&T today and checked the display models and both did the same thing. Might be s big problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL5TV8kuxac&feature=youtube_gdata_player

[Q] quick feedback needed on pink tint on screen

need some fast feedback on this. Last night I noted that the top left part of the screen is less bright on 0 brightness In my bed room, with careful monitoring it looks like I have pink gradient on the top part of the screen at zero brightness. Do any of you guys have this pink tint issue on top of the screen? This can be noted only in dark room with zero brightness, also with zero brightness the whole screen looks a bit pinkish but it totally vanishes once the screen brightness is increased from 0.
This issue is totally unrelated to smearing or red pixel issue afaik.
I need some opinion regarding this guys.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk 2
At 0 brightness my screen also displays a pink tint on white.
When brightness is raised the tint gets lesser
That's nice to hear, I have a chance to replace my device today, hence I'm making sure that I'm not doing something wrong. @Obagleyfreer

My device shows pink at the top left and also slightly all across the bottom.
This is only on very low brightness in a very dark room. Normal usage it's not noticeable
It will be good to know if your replacement device has it also. This is actually my second Galaxy S4. I returned my first after 2 days as there were 2 lighter stripes running horizontally across the screen on grey and white at lowest brightness!
My advice to you is to take the phone into a dark cupboard in the shop and double check everything! lol
The trouble with AMOLED, as I'm sure you're aware, is that you can replace a screen with 1 problem and get another problem on the new one.
Which is why I settled with my slight pink tint at low brightness screen lol
Good luck!
I also get very slight pink tint on black in dark room, but it looks pure black I am normal light. Should we be replacing or not?

Purple tint

Anybody got this? In low brightness some darker elements(specially gray) start become a little purplish
Also the colors seem less saturated in the default screen mode than the s3(also in standard) i thought i would be the opposite, is my screen defective or is this normal

Welcome to S4. Every galaxy S4 has this. Please refer to other threads on how to get rid of this smearing through software.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
The OP doesn't mention smearing.
This is a different issue to the smearing problem.
When the brightness is on low greys become purple. I have had 4 different S4s (all had to be replaced due to screen issues) and every single one had this problem on low brightness.
IMO there is no such thing as a perfect S4 screen!
I have finally settled on my 4th replacement and this one is still not great but I'm sick of returning them.
I have a pink tint at the top of this screen and also all the sensors, LED and front camera are misaligned in the casing, All over to the left.
Samsung have REALLY failed on the Quality Control of this device.
So it seems universal, well i will have to turn off auto brightness and use brightness at 30%
Any of u guys came from the s3? Do the s4 colors seem a little less saturated to u guys? I have them both side by side and it seems so

Yes. I had s3 before and the less saturation on S4 is intentional by Samsung. According to some detailed comparison, the colors of s4 are more accurate. It seems odd at first because our eyes are used to the oversatured screen of s3.

[Q] Display brightness issue

I'm currently on my second N3 (the first one had vertical lines in photos) and looks like this one has a bad display. When using Tapatalk with the dark theme, the bottom left corner/edge of the display is brighter than the rest. When testing with Screen Adjuster, the difference is very noticeable. The issue can be seen even with just Thumb Keyboard with WP7 theme.
Has anyone else noticed this kind of problem?

You may notice that the black screen when you open the settings. Not symmetric Colors.
There is a difference in the backlight. Increase in the left of the screen.
AMOLED has no backlight! the issue is due to the production process (basically: the more of the center of the wafer your particular screen has been cut out, the more uniform it will be)!

If you want to get rid of display brightness issues, just switch to Dynamic, as the 'blacks' in Settings would be even blacker, to the point where it doesn't really light up as it uses the OLED technique of showing true black.
