After upgrade to 4.4.2 XXUENA6 (from sammobile, OXA, Polish version) system not showing microSD card in Total Commander, working only path /storage/extSdCard or path /mnt/extSdCard
Some applications not viewing to microSD (Cool Reader, ...).
MyPhoneExplorer not showing microSD too.
I tried modify /system/etc/vold.fstab but no success.
Any ideas?
I have the same problem!
N9005 with polish 4.4.2
I can see and format the sd card from the phone's menu but I can't write on it using any of the phone apps.
Astro file manager can read it but can't write on it.
File expert can't even red it.
I can write on the sd card only if I connect the phone to my pc visa usb, and use the pc file explorer to modify it.

4.4.2 XXUENA6 not writing microSDXC card
Hi guys,
Same problem here.
Updated from Sammobile via Odin, everything works just fine, but I dont have the possibility to write or delete anything from external SD card.
I can read and format card but cannot write and ES File Explorer sees external sd but won't write/edit/cut/copy/paste/compress etc on it and Total Commander does the same.
Already formatted my 64GB class 10+ Samsung microSDXC card to ExFAT with allocation unit size 128kylobites.
Anyone found any solution?
I dont want to ROOT my Note 3 N9005.
Please help me!!!
Thank you.
Some here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607215 have found a working solution, but it did not work for me. You can try. Good luck.

Hi,
My S4 isn't able to modify the microSD card content.
Neither with the File explorer nor via USB from windows.
I tried formatting, deleting, everything.
It works for the moment, but as soon as I unmount the card and mount it again, all data is as before.
I don't have a pc adapter handy, so I don't know what file format the card has.
It's a Sandisk 64GB.
I can't say if it ever worked, because I probably copied that data that is on there directly at my pc.
It's really strange and hopefully someone has a solution.
S4 have issue with SD cards he kills them is not a joke there's topic with that issue maybe yours card is at the end

Have you tried using something like Root Explorer to check (and change if necessarry) the permissions on your SD card? you want read and write on there.
Has anyone else experienced problems writing files to external SD card just lately? All I know is that the SD card works fine If I use it on the computer with a card reader.
For instance if I copy 300mb of titaniumbackup files it will randomly stop in the process and tell me there is a problem writing the files. This also happens with other files. I can't seem to find anything in the logs either, but then I'm not exactly sure what to look for.
I've tried ES file explorer, the CM11 file explorer and FX file exporer. I've reformatted the SD card using CWM, put it in my card reader on my computer and was able to copy over 40gb of data flawlessly so the card doesn't seem to be corrupt.
I'm not really sure where to start with the troubleshooting, as I said before I'm not sure what I'm looking for in the log files regarding failed file transfers.

If the sdcard is not already formatted with fat32 your best bet is to format it
fat32 and there is an excellent chance that you will be able to use it in your
phone and computer without any further issues.
Here is a direct download link for the windows fat32 formatter:

Good luck!

I switched to slimkat rom to try it out. It's also based on 4.4 and the same kernel as what I had before. I re-formatted the sd card to fat32 at the same time but everything seems to work now. I wonder what it was. Maybe just a kitkat bug with exfat that still needs to be sorted out
Hey, I have a problem with the S5 and FTP file transfer. With my S4, I used to copy my music via FTP. That's quite convenient. Anyway, same SD card in the S5, my FTP client says "Critical file transfer error after transferring".
It is possible to write to the phone memory, but not SD card.
Any ideas, solutions, confirmations???
hello. if you're rooted, try this : SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix.
You can't write on SDCard natively.
It works perfectly for me.
Brilliant, it works. Thank you very much!

Hello
I own Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 and it is rooted. I recently purchased a class 10 Sandisk Micro SD card with 64 GB capacity. I was very happy that I did but my happiness did not last long when I have come to know that 3rd party apps do not have write permission in Kitkat. After some research I was successful to make the SD card writable to 3rd party apps by modifying the permissions.xml file.
Everything seems to be fine at this time but it was not actually. The SD card when seen under storage in settings would show me that it is mounted with 62.5 GB capacity and 60 GB free. But when I try to browse the files in SD card, there are nothing. Apps saved in SD card do not open and I am also unable to capture images from camera to SD card storage.
I thought may be unmounting the SD card and mounting it back would work and it worked but after a while the same problem. My device shows that it has mounted an SD card but cannot access anything saved in it. So, I have to unmount and mount SD card every time and this is very much annoying.
Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you for your time.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes. It is Ex FAT format. Which format should I format it to? Ex FAT or just the FAT format.
It is not about applications. The card just gets undetected after some time and nothing can be accessed including music and images. I have to unmount it and mount again for the device to detect the SD card.
Format your SD Card on your phone its self. Go to settings, storage and than SD Card and format it.

Thanks mate.. Followed your instructions... Working fine as of now.
First, I was using 64gb uhs-1 and can't create a folder in the es file Explorer.. Always I encounter the "unfortunately, documents stopped working."
Here's the solution:
1. Format SD in Windows to NTFS
2. allocation default
3. This is important! RENAME sd card.. Eg. Shield, Android etc.
4. turn off the device, insert SD card. Reboot.
Now it's read and writable..

Yes! This worked for me!! Thanks
BTW, why the Shield has problems reading FAT32? I can't understand it..
will this work on the S5 (Verizon variant), I have a friend that doesn't want to root her phone, but needs R/W access on her SD card. is this the solution?

My shield read the FAT32 format just fine...but I did have to name the micro SD card first.
Hmm.. I have the galaxy s5 on lolipop 5.0
will this work for me? Simply renaming the card while formating will do away with the write permission cap they implemented?
No longer working in 5.1
This method no longer works in Android 5.1 on the shield tablet, it results in a No Root Access message. Anybody have a method that works on Android 5.1
Still works for me on 5.1. Of course it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Some actions will always require root.
I am electronically illiterate. I don't understand any of the directions. Can someone be kind enough to dumb this down a thousand notches?
