How to add Wistle.ogg on GT-i9100 kitkat 4.4.2 omnirom..please send the file...
Get the file and throw it in a folder called "Ringtones" on your SD card.
Lots of hits for it on Google and XDA:

Not sure about that but if you go into your sdcard, create a folder called media, then enter that folder n create audio, then enter that folder (lol) n create folders, notifications and ringtones.. u can put any music within them folders n they should appear in ya settings options along with the rest of the stock ringtones!
Hope it helps!!

Where should I place a new notification sound so that Gmail can use it?
Thanks
If I recall correctly. You create a folder on the sdcard called notifications and put the sound file in it. You should then be able to assign it.

You create a folder named media. In that folder a folder named audio. In that folder a folder notifications and ringtones. The files u put in the notifications folder you can use to select it for gmail and (tatataaa) notifications.
Great ! That worked, thanks.
on stock 4.2.1, can you just put the mp3 files in ringtones folder?

Yes, that's all you have to do.
where is the ringtones folder located? i copied a folder i had on my computer called ringtones over to the root directory as there was not one that already existed however i am still having to use rings extended to use custom ringtones.
You can open a ringtone file using music player and in its menu you have the "make as ringtone" option
Another easy way. Use zedge app. Dload rings!!!

I use a custom ringtone and notification sound on my phone. Each time I update my ROM, I have to copy two .ogg files from my /sdcard/, to /system/media/ringtones.
Is there any way to get an app or scripts that will get su permissions, mount /system/, copy the files, then unmount all in one go?
Not that I'm aware of, I do the same thing every flash.
Btw the notification sound goes in system/media/audio/notifications
You could try making a flashable.zip of the sounds you want and flash them after your ROM.

You can put them in
sdcard/ringtones
sdcard/notifications

If making a flashable zip is the easiest option, how would I make one of those?

Once u restart after deleting the ringtone files, they will appear in Sound settings. But, selecting any deleted ringtone will play the default ringtone sound. (the same tone which plays when u select a ringtone in SD card and remove/unmount the SD card and get a call)
This free app can be used to remove the ringtone ; the ringtone name also gets deleted from Sound settings.
