I just noticed this after someone else pointed it out to me. the front-facing 2MP camera will record 1080p video @ 29.5fps, which is fine. The 13MP rear-facing camera shots video at 720p or 1080p at 16.67fps. Any idea why it's doing this? Any fixes? I've checked prior recordings and it's done this at least on Android 4.3 as well as the current KitKat release. I've also factory reset after updates.
Not rooted or running anything custom, just plain stock.
I've also noticed the same issue on my phone, how is it that the front facing camera records ay a much higer fps rate than the rear facing camera. Any idea on this guys? Thanks.

Its a known bug for non Touchwiz roms, there is no fix for now.

Hey,
So i decided to record some of the fireworks this past fourth of july and i have some weird findings. The first video i recorded was in 720 (on accident) while the rest were in 1080. The first video appears to have a much clearer focus, and doesn't seem to lose focus as much as the 1080 video. It could be luck, or the conditions changed, i just thought it was a weird finding.
Anyone else notice something similar?
Yes, same behaviour on my SGS2.
yep.. in fact sgs2 sucks !
Yeah, thats "normal" and yes: it sucks. But I wouldn't go as far as to say the phone's crap because of it. But it sucks
i love this phone but the autofocus in 1080p sucks hard! none of the movies i made in 1080p are shareable due to autofocus constantly trying to focus...
hopefully its fixed in the next camera update
so i flashed my 2.3.3 Firmware to KI8 2.3.5 Last Night so iam facing a lil Camera bug which is when i open Camera, Camera Mode Works Fine No problem but when i switched to 1080p Rec Mode it Always Zoomed in ( i mean it is always Closer to the Subject and because of this there is hell lot of destabilization... i tired different resolution Like 720p it is Fine but as as soon as i swtich to 1080p Rec Mode at is quite ZOOMED IN whay is that so can cany one Tell me that ? can any other camera App can fixed that

I'm currently on the XWKI8 firmware, with Speedmod s2-k2-11 kernal, but I don't have the same problem. All camera functions seem to be working fine. Perhaps you should try changing the kernal if you have not done this already.
EDIT: Just some other things you might try before being as drastic as changing the kernal -
1. be sure you have re-booted again after the flash
2. clear the cache and dalvik cache again
3. clear the camera app data (Settings/Applications/All/Camera/Clear Data
Worth a try.
Guys, this has been covered elsewhere, the 1080p mode always zooms in as it uses the centre of the sensor rather than scaling the whole 8mp sensor down like 720p does.
Theories as to why are mainly that the camera chipset can't handle scaling 8mp -> 1080p but can do 8mp -> 720p, so instead just uses the centre pixels at 1:1.
Do a search on it for more info.
AFAIK that's how it is on all S2's. Personally I don't use it because it chews memery like crazy. 720 * 480 suits me fine.
Even for the normal camera I use 6.5mp as the picture uses the full screen. At 8mp the picture is smaller on the screen. Quality still looks just about as good.

Actually if you switch between 720p and 480p you will still notice a slight zoom in as well. Meaning the 1:1 ratio only begin from 480p to below.
I wonder why anyone would need to take a pic at >3 mega pixels. For me as long as it's greater than 1080p to fit a tv or 1920x1200 for a computer monitor itls good enough. I don't print my pics. Maybe that's why.
Same here on 2.3.5 ki3 with cf kernel

This is intended to work like that....................so its not a bug... i usually dont use 1080p recording. one has to keep hands steady too much while recording as its zoomed in.........720p is more than enough............
Has anyone else noticed the Essential phone front camera captures at a low fps? I was doing a video chat with my friend and he said he could see the frames moving across his screen from my camera recording video. I went into to the camera app (google modded version found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/themes/google-camera-port-t3665197) and the regular one and saw the slow video frames as they traveled across my screen is there a software fix for this/later release or is this a flaw in the phones front camera?
Hi everyone! I'm new here.
I was interested in this phone (x722) because its crazy cheap for what it offers, but at the same time I am interested in a phone with a good video recording (with stabilization) so before buying I wanted to check.
I was wondering if anyone having the x722 and having installed a custom rom and the GCam port, could tell me how it stabilizes, in which settings (4k, 1080) and if its possible to record 1080/60fps videos aswell?
If some nice person around here would do some test and check if it stabilizes video well and can record 1080/60 it would be great.
Thanks a lot in advance! Hope to see some useful replies
I don't have proof, but people like the camera when they're using it with the modded Gcam. 60fps recording should work with modded Gcam, but it doesn't work normally, i.e. with the stock camera or OpenCamera, despite giving you the 60fps recording option. The IMX298 takes decent 60fps, nothing special. About on par with the iPhone 6. But I don't think you get video stabilization at all. You'll have to stabilize it yourself in Google photos or something.
Source: I owned a Zenfone 3, which has the same sensor.

The OP3T has pretty good electronic stabilization and uses the same IMX298 sensor aswell, so its definitely not a sensor problem in your Zenfone.
The LeEco pretty much has the same capabilities as the OP3/3T, it should be perfectly doable
I don't know, I guess the app would have to give you the option for stabilization. I just tested video recording on my phone and it doesn't have stabilization. I used Open Camera. I'm not rooted so I can't try the modded Gcam.

Yes, I was asking to people that had a custom Nougat ROM + Google Cam 5.0
Could someone in general post pictures and videos taken on the X722 with gcam? I am thinking of buying this Phone.
I am looking for a camera app that can utilize the axon 7's 60fps at 1080p and 120fps at 720p, so far it doesnt matter what app ive tried (on oreo stock a2017u) every app only actually records at 30fps, ideally it would be something like open camera where I can manually change the bitrate shutter speed iso etc.
Im on the stock oreo rom but if needed I can install Lineage os, (but i would rather not)

Stock camera app? I haven't seen any other app so far which can actually utilize 60fps and slowmo. It's ZTE's fault for their weird camera driver programming.

the issue is that the stock camera app is just so... mediocre, to say the least, th camera quality is a sold 6/10 but could be sooo much better q.q
I wonder does it need Camera2 API?
I just shot a little test with Snap Camera HDR then checked with an editor app and it was about 43 fps but when I hard switched it to 60 fps and tried to shoot it failed.
It's still my favourite camera app.

I couldnt get any apps to shoot at 60fps+ regardless of camera api2 support or not, I was experiencing the same thing with snap camera hdr, regardless if the bit rate was 20 or 200Mbits/s and regardless of encoder highest I could get was that 43 fps, even on 720p.
Hello
I am usin OpenCamera
blue icon
It has everything. you can change Bitrates, resolutions, wide array of settings.
IMHO must have app. For videos i choose that.
Check it out and let me know howw well i have have helped you and how this is the solution to camera XD (joking a little bit) But yes,its the Best in my opinion. i use it. (axon 7 4k at 80Mb/s is amazing...)
I'll be honest, Open Camera has potential but it's never good enough. I try it occasionally and then uninstall. It has weird eccentricities but the biggest one is often the preview is quite different to the captured image.
Snap Camera HD shats all over it in so many ways.
