[Q] Enterprise WIFI not working with custom 4.3 Roms - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Any developer want to assist us at work get online? I've tried every custom 4.3 tw without success. I've tried all kernels available without success. I restore back to any 4.2 and I connect perfectly.
I'm on mk2 with mf9 boatloader for all examples above. There is something missing in 4.3 allowing the device to properly connect to enterprise Wi-Fi (my situation is peap with mschampv2). I see it authenticates me on the network just falls to properly connect then it resets.
I've tried the various apps in the playstore as suggested by others. This is not something the fabled wifi fix floating around can help.

I have the same problem, although I am on MK2 software and not sure about bootloader. I'm also using Ktoonsez kernal.

You don't know if you upgraded to the MK2 bootloader? Can you search /system/apps for any KNOX apps?
My theory is without the KNOX bootloader/apps wifi enterprise is broken with the MK2 software. But, I'm no developer.

Same here
I have had enterprise WiFi issues with all 4.3 custom ROMS I have tried and have searched extensively and have not found a solution. The only work around I have found was to sign on as a guest if that is allowed.

I don't have KNOX. I got my MK2 update from unknownforce's thread.

4.4.2 update fixed enterprise WiFi for me.

[Q] Been trying for hours. Please help.

I had to post. Its 5:21 and I need sleep. I tried updating to amdl on my i337. I never updated the modem when it came out and I was running an odex 4.2.2 google rom. I was unable to root my phone using an odex Google edition from the i9505 which I lokidoki'd. It was 4.3 and I was able to upgrade, but nothing and I mean absolutely nothing will allow a root. I also just updated to mf3 which I didn't mean to do (hit the wrong file in cwm) after doing everything I could with my amdl. I reverted to amdl and tried forever. The binary won't install and it wouldn't before mf3. I looked everywhere. Root methods for both basebands. I tried all of them short of ones that will brick me. Any input would be great. I'm glad to be on 4.3, but I NEED root. I'm not a pro, but I've been doing this stuff long enough to know what I'm doing. If you think of something even moderately complex, I've probably done it. Somebody help...

You're making this way too complicated.
1. System Settings --> About Phone
2. Activate Developer Options by tapping "Build number" several times
3. System Settings --> Developer Options --> Root Access --> Apps and ADB (or Apps only, if you prefer)

It was already enabled. There is nothing about root access in my Dev options. All I get is that superuser cannot update the binary. I've tried motochopper and just installing supersu through cwm. The old version of it gives root access but it never sticks and keeps asking and as soon as it updates it tells me that it can't install a binary on 4.3

Huh. OK, let me get a little more info. First off, you never did the OTA MF3 update, correct? As in, the Loki exploit still works on your device?
Also, when you say, "I tried updating to amdl," and, "I also just updated to mf3," do you mean firmware versions or just modems(basebands)? It seems to me that you mean the latter, because your screenshot is still showing the 4.3 Google Edition firmware.
If this is the case, it sounds like you have not tried a full wipe and re-flash of the rom. Is this true?

Tried a wipe. Tried another rom just like it. Nothing. And yes just the basebands. I'm running AMDL right now on kangabean. It's all good. I like the rom a lot actually. I got Wallet working which was big for me. Just slightly disappointed at the deodex. Would prefer an odex rom. Oh well! Thanks for your help everyone I appreciate it.

[Q] MJA modem + 802.1x EAP WiFi?

Has anyone that has upgraded to the MJA modem successfully connected to a WPA2 Enterprise (802.1x EAP) wireless network? I've read tons of posts with people having issues, even after applying the wifi fix and running KT kernel. I need my phone to be able to connect to this type of WiFi network, so I would like to know if it's possible with the new modem. If so, what process did you follow?
I still haven't taken the OTA, and am running stock rooted 4.2.2. I'm inclined to follow the process in the development section to get to MJA without KNOX, but I don't want to bother if I can't connect to an enterprise WiFi network.
Thanks,
Dave
I am on mja minus bootloader . but running sacs 4.2 ROM. I am connected to my work WiFi as I type. No problems. But if i install any 4.3 ROM forget it no WiFi works at work. Is It the rom? Is it lack of 4.3 boot loader? Who knows. But mja minus boot loader will give you no problem. Better speed etc
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
I am having same issue with you. Any 4.3 ROM I tried based from MJA failed to work with EAP Wifi. No issue with CM or AOSP.
I am having issues with wifi as well at campus it will connect but never obtain ip address, at home it works but is slow and I get unstable connection errors a lot :-\
Running sac 4.1 mja
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for the replies. I can't believe there is not a fix for this! Is anyone aware of any combination of 4.3 ROM + MJA modem that works with enterprise wifi? Do people that took the OTA have the same issue?
I really want to update, but I can't deal with not being able to connect to an 802.1x wireless network.
im running mf9(sac 4.3 v 4.2) and my sister is running mja stock. and we both get unstable connection at home wifi
I have to sometimes turn off and turn back on wifi after a reboot to clear it up. she just waits and it clears up itself
hope this helps

When I was on rooted MJA Rom and modem, MF9 bootloader, KT's kernel, and hotspot mod with Wifi fix, I could not connect to my University's 802.1x EAP Wifi.
I recently upgraded to MK2 rooted and deknoxed rom, MK2 modem, MK2 kernel, while still being on the MF9 bootloader.
I can now connect to the 802.1x EAP Wifi just fine. I have not flashed the hotspot mod incase that broke the ability to connect (I rarely ever use the hotspot anyway, maybe ~3 times a year). I may flash it and see what happens.
I would suggest going close to stock everything (minus bootloader) with the stock kernel and modem to see if that solves the problem.

Some people have said that it is working, but I am quietly waiting for more confirmation before I update to MK2. I am getting ready to go on a trip to Vegas in a couple weeks and LTE is there.... free hotel wifi is not.

There IS a Hotspot mod that works (actually TWO! - One Odex one DeOdexed) in crawrj's thread. Last few pages I tested them and they worked for me too.
If you're stock rooted (and NOT on customized stock) choose the Odex version.
It's here search for it.

I believe off a stock MK2 Sprint issues a security update not too long after the first boot that might cancel that out if you install the hotspot after the update. I can't say for certain as I was wiping and loading a few times a month or two ago when I had this problem and the only thing I could think of was to install the hotspot mod before accepting this security update. been able to use the hotspot without any problems since...

Hi, i was finally able to get the wifi-hotspot, and call forwarding settings working. After trying a number of custom roms, i finally installed - omega v19 - XXUEML6. All the above settings, which were unavailable previously are now available and working normally. I suggest, this rom to any other user, who might be facing the same issue with the sprint sgs4 model.

Just for clarification purposes, what is the issue when it "doesn't work"? It is missing from the settings menu and when used in the quick launch toggle, it says "Tethering not supported?" I have that problem myself and I do believe it came after I accidentally let my phone receive an OTA update. I did NOT install the update, but accidentally left my phone on for an extended period of time on a stock software load. I had to ODIN-flash to stock ROOTED MF9 when my dog unplugged the USB cable while I was flashing NAE modem and the phone wouldn't boot afterward.
I can downgrade the modem to MF9/MJA/MK2 and use any ROM and any recovery to wipe and the option to tether is just gone. There's a SQLite program you can download (it costs 3 bucks) to get the option back in the settings, but on my phone it won't work after being forced back into the settings/toggle. it won't allow clients to acquire an IP address. I decided to go ahead and flash an unrooted stock MF9 and let it update to NAE hoping it was a problem that the newest firmware would resolve. It did this without a hitch but the option to tether never returned to the settings menu.
Can anybody confirm whether or not this is was intentional on Sprint/Samsung's part since I don't pay for tethering? I am trying to decide if I need to spend 100 dollars on another motherboard or not so it'd be real nice to know, but nobody wants to chime in. I created my own thread to address the issue, but nada.

Yes, you are right, It is missing from the settings menu and when used in the quick launch toggle, it says "Tethering not supported?". It is intentionally locked/ removed from sprint version of SGS4.
I tried all the roms meant for sprint model SPH-L720, but none of them worked.I had almost given up, but after flashing the Omega Rom "omega v19 - XXUEML6", which was meant for european version GT-I9505, all the settings started working normally.
This works for -
Android Version - 4.3,
Baseband Version - L720VPUEMK2,
Kernel Version - 3.4.83-KT-SG4-JB4.3-TW-SPR-03.19.2014-g743b3d0
Hardware Version - L720.08
I cannot say for sure whether the same will work for you, but you can try.

Thank you for the idea. i will try soon as I get home but now looks like I gotta re-root. Not sure if I can do it the old way w/ the MF9 1-click since my download mode screen now includes 4 extra lines of text and looks like this:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SPH-L720
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
CURRENT STATUS: Custom
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE: enabled
Before I allowed phone to update itself, I only had the top 4 lines. Anybody know what all of that garbage means? IDC about warranty b/c phone's a year and 2 months old.

It means any firmware older than NAE will not work on your phone using Odin to install it. You have the knox bootloader so there is no more going backwards with the stock tar files. You can still root, but I don't think that 1-click mf9 will work for you.

[Q] Is it currently possible to root an AT&T Galaxy S4 (1337) on 4.4.2?

I updated my Galaxy S4 (1337 AT&T) to 4.4.2 KitKat, without realizing that I risked the possibility of not being able to root my phone for a while. Is there any way to root my phone right now? If not, when do you think a root method will be available? I use on a mac running OSX Mavericks at the moment so if there are any methods specifically for macs then please do let me know. Thank you!
You can downgrade to a semi-working 4.3 firmware and then flash a pre-rooted 4.4.2 rom using safestrap. Although this method requires you to use odin at the end so idk if odin works for mac or not.
Further details discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825
There is no traditional root method available, but the root-workaround is an excellent solution to gain root access.
This "index" thread will tell you all you need to know concerning roms, root, etc. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221

Thanks, when do you estimate a traditional root method will arrive for my phone?
There is no estimate. For future reference, asking for any kind of estimated time is generally frowned upon as the insanely hard working devs here on xda have a ton of stuff on their plates BEFORE you add in actually working on any device. Not trying to sound like one of those asshats that gets all bent out of shape about people who ask for an eta, just giving you the heads up.

Well, with a working root method already available, most devs see no reason or motivation to do something redundant. Since root access is already available.
If our bootloaders were unlocked, then we would be able to use Chainfire's CF-autoroot method.
If I root like this, will I still be able to install custom roms?

Heimdall is generally used on the macs--I haven't needed it but you can google and get familiar--I found numerous sites and some are on xda. Always good to read all you can and kinda reconfirm what one site may say or find out it wasn't right for you.
if you haven't this link should help you get adb working on mac
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
best advice was already given by 4ndroid99's link and also get very familiar with SafeStrap for your build. Threads for that are on our forum here also. You can't flash custom recoveries, just what SafeStrap provides.
Also, I have never had luck on my iMac with Keis and my rooted s4--recommend not using it
Good Luck--:good:

[Q] WiFi unstable stock rom; CM11 possible cure?

My AT&T S4's wifi connection has become basically useless. Both at home and at work it frequently drops out and says the connection is unstable. At home, this happens when I'm in the same room as the router. These symptoms started happening after the OTA updates, but seem to have gotten continually worse. I've tried the usual settings changes to no avail.
Is there any reason to believe that putting a custom rom on my S4 will solve the wifi stability issue? If so, I'd happily give it a shot before I completely give up and get a new phone. And, I've had the hardest time trying to figure which guide to use to install a custom rom. I have a US AT&T SGH i337 that is running 4.4.2, and the Baseband version is I337UCUFNC1, Kernal version 3.4.0-1125940. I rooted my s4 using towelroot.
Thanks for the help, hoping I can fix my S4 and keep it...
If it were me I'd flash the nb1 tar file and see if I had the same Wi-Fi issue. You might have a hardware issue. If everything worked then I'd take the ota to nc1. If you have a problem now it's probably the modem image.
Use the rootable nb1 tar file, it's rootable with towelroot.
Flashing the tar in Odin will wipe your device so make sure you backup first.
