First time Acer Iconia user need help with upgrading - Acer Iconia A500

Hi Folks,
I am more into mobile flashing however my dad came with his acer iconia stuck on 3.2.1 and asked me to do an update. Having gone through some of the stickies flashing this tablet somehow seemed a lot more complicated than my s2. However tried going into stock recovery with a stock full rom to upgrade to ics however to my pleasant surprise it came up with CWM v5.0.2.3(thor2002ro rev1.5).
Can someone please advise that can i now simply download a JB custom rom and flash it through this cwm or it requires an updated cwm/thor recovery. Also read somewhere about different bootloaders, pls shed some light on that as well
Thanks

To install an ICS or JB rom you NEED skrilax_cz unlocked bootloader

Confusion with rooting/unlocking various firmware versions with Stock

Next week I am going to be receiving an Atrix 4G (ATT) running the stock (Froyo) to replace my broken Inspire 4G. Anyway, I plan on upgrading to CM9 immediately as soon as I receive the phone. After reading through tons of tutorials on XDA, rootzwiki, etc., I realized that most of the roms depend on certain firmware versions mainly the Gingerbread build to build from. I am familiar with adb and other android functions but I am mainly curious as to what the exact method would be from original stock? Do I need to upgrade the official firmwares in steps and then root, unlock bootloader, install clockworkmod, install rom, etc. or can I just go from Froyo to CM9 with the usual methods?
I have rooted and installed many custom roms but motorola has a few extras enabled like a locked bootloader. I am just curious as the correct starting point as I have seen many different methods for this device. If anyone has any advice, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
I think you should upgrade to the latest firmware 4.5.141 then use the 2.3.4 method to unlock the boot loader. Heres a thread with someone who unlocked their phone on 2.3.6 and installed the cm9:

I think the method you mentioned above should be fine….'upgrade the official firmwares in steps and then root, unlock bootloader, install clockworkmod, install rom'

A501: Returning from custom ics to stock

Hi,
I use an A501 Iconia Tab and flashed a custom ics by tegraowners. Now I'd like to go back to the latest stock firmware. However, I don't know how to do that.
Is there a program like ODIN for Samsung with which I can simply flash the latest stock firmware?
Every help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Anyone?
There is a complete ota ics rom in dev forum. Complete stock. Flash able zip.

[Q] OTA from 4.3 to 4.4

Hi all guys! I just want to ask some feedback about your experience with the latest OTA, since I read a lot of contradicting experiences about it.
I currently have a "stock" 4.3 (JWR66Y), rooted + busybox and with CWM recovery. I read about people saying that CWM won't be able to apply the OTA, people who just say nothing and people who lose root.
Based on my previous experience (4.2.2 -> 4.3) I just unrooted my phone and then used CWM to perform the OTA and everything went ok, so that's why I don't understand why this time it shouldn't work. Same thing with the fact that I may lose the recovery: isn't CWM able to avoid stock recovery from being flashed again?
So, is there anyone here with my same setup who performed the update and wants to share his experience? Anyone who can answer some of my doubts?
Thank you all guys

[Q] Please help me flash an upgraded OS to my device

Hi all, I want to install a 4.4.4 ROM. I haven't been around the forums for a while (I've been satisfied with my rooted stock 4.2.2 MDL), but now I feel it is time to upgrade.
First off, the recovery I have right now is CWM 6.0.3.2 touch recovery. Is that OK? Or is it outdated? Does it have auto-loki?
Secondly, will I still be rooted after upgrading to 4.4.4? If not, is there a known root process?
Thanks to all! I really want to get back into the stock Android scene.
