[Q] Change default camera picture directory? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to change the default directory that camera pictures are saved to, instead of the weird 100LG.... directory? I'm using a photosync application that searches for the more common DCIM/camera directory, but it can't find it. I'm using xdabbeb's camera mod.

Hide images from G1 picture viewer??

I've believe I seen a how to around here somewhere about how to keep images or certain folders with images from showing up on the G1s picture viewer.
I got some pictures I dont need people seeing when they look though my pictures stored on my SD card.
I would like to be able to view them in ASTRO or something similar or when I mount my SD card to a PC. Maybe a certain app can disable certain folders?

I just put a period in front of each folder. Like from "folder" to ".folder"
and reboot. Voila! Probably won't work for apps that need to access that specific directory though.
Haha, u get the pix from the chicks 2, I c, but yea put them in a folder and put a "." in front of the folder name like binary said, and reboot

There is indeed an app that will hide files. It is called "Hide & Seek" and acts like just another Flashlight app. After launching the app you hit the Menu button three times and enter a password. Then you can "View" or hide additional files... I have found it very useful to hide content such as the pics downloaded by the "Phandroid" app which would show up in the picture viewer...
You guys are awesome and lifesavor, thanks. We need a rep system or something like other forums have.
wow, ive been looking for a way to do this without the app, never thought of putting a . in there, nice work guys
The way the app does it, is it changes the nome from "pic.jpg" to "pic.kpg.hide"
mmm

I have tried this from within Windows, but it doesnt allow me. Do you have to change the name from the phone directly?
thanks

Anyone please?
Yeah, you have to do it on the phone.
Using ASTRO is how I did it. I renamed the folder with the "." in front of it, (Long press folder>Edit>Rename) then you can set ASTRO to view files as thumbnails, (Menu>View>Change View>Thumbnail Icons) and then browse the picture folder in ASTRO. When you click a picture, you can set it to open in the native View Picture or in ASTRO's picture viewer, your choice.
backup
Make sure you have a backup copy of ur pics before u try this. For some reason when i put .folder whenever i reboot, it deleats all my pics in that folder! Did it 5 times in a row, but i had backups on my comp. If i put .pic for file name then it still shows up. Gonna just change the file extension i guess and see how that works...
Anyone else have any probs like this?

Yeah... Astro... Linda... whatever you use should allow you to add the . in front of the name. You need to reboot for the changes to go into effect.

using file explorer.. go to...
(depending where your pictures are stored)
cut and paste the pictures contained in DCIM\100media\
into a new folder somewhere else on the storage card.. and it will no longer appear in the image gallery

Mate - have a look at this, in the hits & tips thread linked in my sig...
64. Disable Unwanted Folders From Showing in HTC Album
It just hides a folder from the album app. You can still manually browse to it with file explorer, for example, and open images from there.
Hope this helps

i edited thet registry key but i'm having troubles.. while it is actually hiding pictures in htc album, they are still showing up in manila's tab, am i doing something wrong?
WinRar the files. You can even put a password on it so that if you loose the phone no one can see the pics. I found it the easiest and most secure way to hide your girlfriends pictures.

Free app to protect pictures
Hi,
Search for an app called FreeOTFE4PDA. It allows you to create a fully encrypted, password protected folder on your card. This can then be mounted as a storage card when needed. Within this you can create folder and do anything else you can do on a storage card. The important part is of course that you can not mount it if you do not know the password.

i run both windows and android, so what i'm trying to do is to hide android's gallery cache files (why did developers think that using readable jpg files as cache would be a good idea in the first place?)
that's the reason i want them to remain accessible for android use, but still don't want them to fill my windows photo tab with duplicates, so no rar storing can solve my problem
i fear i'll have to give up the 3d glory of android's gallery due to this stupid issue...
Use Total Commander, find the pictures, press & hold a picture, tap Properties, check the box "Hidden", press OK. The pictures can only be accessed through Total Commander.
It's a good thing my 900th post went to a good cause!

That's exactly the problem i'm having. You just have to keep the photos rarred while you using android. Not the perfect solution, if you find a better 1 i'm interested too.

1)Change the extension to some other (from jpg to ipg in example). So no one program will open it. When you need it change again to jpg.
2)make it hidden or system

Hiding photos

Lets say I take a photo using my x10 camera. Android will automatically post this photo to timescape and mediascape.
However for this particular photo, I dont want it visible in this not in the camera roll.
is there anyway the picture can be hidden from these and put in a folder which needs a password to access it?

Have you tried using a file manager to renaming the file extension and move the file?
I previously tried using BT to send files to my X10, anytime i moved the media file to another file, mediascape refused to play it. Maybe that'll work for you?

I still want to be able to view the photos, i just dont want them appearing in mediascape or the camera roll.
Also, have them in a locked directory for extra protection
Just use file manager like ASTRO to create a folder starting with dot ".".
for example ".pictures"
put your files in it and mediascape won't display the folder content
in timescape, if you press and hold the picture, you will be able to drag it to the bottom where a bin icon appears. Very similar to when you remove a shortcut from home. It then tells you that the data is still available on the phone.
Not sure about media scape though

Replace 3d gallery with something less resource intensive

Hi guys, I've got a couple of thousand 256x256 icons stored on my phone and they cause the N1 3D gallery app. to throw a spaz, it get's that processor intensive the phone end up's getting really hot and locking up.
Is there a more slimline, non-3d gallery I can replace it with and use as the default when replacing icons using Bettercut and Launcher Pro?
TIA!

Pull the Gallery.apk from a Sense ROM.
Is that possible without the sense framework?
If yes, would it be possible to use the Sense camera.apk too?
What about placing a .nomedia file in the folders with icons ? That way the Gallery wont scan them.
@thed0g:
Thanks for the tip, it might come in handy.
is that a .nomedia folder or blank file (no extension) btw?

you create a new folder, you can call the folder whatever as long it has '.' infront of it
i.e .pictures

No matter which gallery you use, loading a few hundred small files will bog the CPU and SD card to 100% for a long while due to inherent physical limits... everytime you start the phone, reload SDcard or restart the installed gallery apps. Browsing them is an even bigger pain. I've been through this torture myself to realize (had 300MB in icons). The Sense gallery handles it far better than the stock gallery though.
The only workaround is as mentioned; to place a period/fullstop infront of the folder name where all the mass of icons are kept, and move the icons you require to another folder. Maybe keep it the same folder name just without the period in this case. All the galleries will pickup the icons in this latter folder and ignore the rest. Loading will be very fast.
So many small icon file reads/writes won't just make your phones flash choke but also your computers drive, unless you're using an SSD.

Its a blank file with name ".nomedia", which you put into a folder that you want to exclude from the Gallery.
".Folder" is just a hidden folder, but also might do the trick ;]
Excellent thanks peeps, now my stalker cam pics folder is hidden from unwanted eyes ¬_¬

How to change screenshot save location?!

By default screenshots are saved to the camera location, so Google Photos automatically backs them up.
How do we change that location?
Bump....
This is very annoying
I have the same issue - any workarounds?
Any?
I thought I was the only person this bothered. And it's weird because it doesn't do this on any older galaxys
There doesn't seem to be an option to change the location where screenshots are saved, no.
Just turn off auto backup in Google photos.
Or just stop taking screenshots of women full stop.
Mine saves to folder named "Screenshots", so not sure why yours would be different? Now, if Google backs up screenshots directory to cloud, take it up with Google, maybe there is a setting to choose which directory should be saved (cam pictures are saved to directory /DCIM/camera, screenshots to /DCIM/screenshots ), I don't use cloud for back up, since I use my laptops for that, so can't help you with settings.

Haven't tried this bug you can do a symbolic link from internal to sfcard for whatever folder you want using ln command.
PinSync
Hi, I was looking into this issue today and just found a solution. It's an App called PinSync. ( I can't post links yet... look for it on the PlayStore.)
It detects whenever a screenshot is taken and instantly moves it to another folder, so it's not displayed or uploaded into Google Photos.
I hope it helps you guys as well...
Try below:
Go to the DCIM folder, then Sreenshot folder. At the screenshot folder, add a new file with the name " .nomedia".
It does not change the storage location of screenshot files, but the screenshots will not be displayed in Camera anymore.
I think Google Photo should add an option of how often to backup pictures. Some pictures like screenshots are not meant to be saved for a long time.

If you don't fancy paying 89p for PinSync from the Google Playstore, you can download Automate for free, and very quickly and easily make a script that moves any files that appear in one folder to another
Try to move it and move it back again it's work for me

How to add new file ?
I've found that if you are really hellbent on using Google Photos and save your photos to the SD Card via your stock camera app, then when you view the "Library" on the Google Photo app there are two Camera folders. The one without the SD Card icon is where the Screen shots will reside, and the one with the SD Card icon are where your camera photos will be.

Not yet, but I've fed back to Google to update their Photos app. Check out Google Files app. It does categorise the Screenshots folder, so I'm pointing it out to Google dev to address it. It is kind of silly..... Why do they do this for one app and not the other?
