Lg g2 help needed! - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i traded my gs4 for the lg g2. And i love it but i noticed that my battery life is very inconsistent. Sometimes its amazing, and other times it just drains like crazy without me using it at all. And my gps keeps turning on, i already read about the carrier iq, and i turn it off but that keeps on coming back on. And it still says my gps is on even though its not so on my battery usage android system is number one now wiht like 85%. This just started happening. So i was thinking of rooting to get rid of all these problems, would that solve these issues im having? Also i would like to know if i do root my phone is it possible for me to still keep my current lg skin that originally came with the phone? If rooted can knock on still work? can q slide still work? I love this phone a lot more than my gs4 but these problems are driving me crazy. Any advice and help is greatly appreciated. Also i have no previous experience in rooting. If someone could elaborate why rooting is necessary for this phone or not.

You can root and flash a custom rom based on the stock rom, which will help you keep all of LG's features, or you can flash a rom such as carbon rom and have 4.4.2 kitkat, which has amazing battery life!

Are you sure that all the features will work because i saw that if you root then its possible for the knock on to work but not the knock off. I just want to take off this carrier iq and location services thats killing my battery.

You can use screen offs to get the same type of knock off with using Alex or nova launcher. That's only needed for aosp based Roms. Also they have a fiction for knock off on status bar on most aosp Roms.
If you stick with stock based Roms. Like madallus and others, knock off works just as it does stock because it uses the lg kernel.

Yea ok i heard about using nova launcher. Where would you get these roms and instructions how to root it? Are the instructions for rooting the same for different roms or is it the same method for any rom? And would that most likely help fix my battery life?

What is your device model? Rooting is the same per device, but you need to DL the model specific image for recovery

Knock Off works aswell in most kitkat roms, but you have to double tap the status bar, you cant double tap anywhere to screen off.

Is there going to be a update for the lag?

Is there going to be a Samsung update or firmware update for the lag that's been going on a lot ? I don't wanna root for the lag to stop I like being on stock.

You can root stock... and still be stock. Root refers to the user account it uses and permissions only.

Yea I know but when I said root I meant like I don't want to put a custom rom or anything like that. If I just root it is there anything I can so it stop the lag?

@shaqqq i installed nova launcher and it solved my problems with at least the home screen lag, and it gives you a touch of AOSP, personally i love AOSP.
i too have noticed significant lag compared to my note 2, when on stock. perhaps rooting and removing bloatware might help, but i ROM'd just for that reason (cleanrom+xposed)

I don't know if you have read the tons of suggestions to reduce or get rid of the "lag", but here it's a summary:
1-) Activate Developers options and then set to off all the animations options
2-) Freeze/Disable the AT&T and/or Samsung Bloatware
3-) Remove the option to activate the S Voice by double clicking the Home Button, go to options on S Voice and you will see it there.
4-) If you have the Default Weather Widget, get rid of it or at least set the options to not update all the time.
5-) if you have downloaded Swiftkey, people seem to have issues with it and Weather widget combined. try using Swype (already on your phone) or Google Keyboard that was updated on the Playstore and now most can have it for free.
Maybe there are a couple of other suggestions, but the last ones, 4 and 5, seem to have affected the most. I haven't had any lag but can't say that there is no lag, as there are a lot of people that seem to have it, so it seems that it maybe some productions issues if that's the case, that is affecting some, while others don;t have it.
Custom roms would be the only way to limit the lag, as most of the devs have pretty much put a stop to it. If you stay stock you will have to wait a LONG time until they release their slow ass updates.
I am running WanamLite with NO lag so far. The above post is about all your going to get running stock.

[Q] Sprint and the S4 Roms

Hey guys, first off I would like to say that Im new to the forum again, and if this is in the wrong spot, go ahead flame away lol.
I'm having a hard time finding a good rom for the Sprint S4 that can include the wifi tether. every application that I use gets denied by the phone's system. What im looking for is a rom that allows me to use the wifi tether, and keep the IR functions. I used to have the HTC and Droids and didn't have a issue like im having with the new s4....Can someone help lead me in the proper direction.

Do I need gaps or anything. Right now I'm running cm10.2
Flash a touch wiz rom.. just about every TW rom has hotspot hacked out the gate.. no need for wifi teather
I believe sacs rom is TW so most Google Apps are included. Read the OP and try it out. ..

Just flash hot spot mod zip on your stock rom, no need to flash a rom...btw I tryd a couple roms and always end up back to sacs roms
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Looks like it's pretty unanimous, If you want a rom, check out sacs custom rom. It's based off stock so you won't lose any features, and it's tweaked to where some people are pulling over 30 hours of battery life
4 out of 5 people have recommended it
Let me also recommend sacs' rom. It's reason I rooted my phone.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4
so the sacs rom wont need to have a secondary anything for the hotspot to be active and pass the block sprint has.
SACs is awesome! Everything works and hotspot will work as if you were paying sprint for it.
Sac's ROM FTW!! I' on 42% right now with 1 hr 45 min on screen time and total of almost 20 hrs! I dare any other ROM to beat that
Just got my galaxy s4 still don't know if I should root it or not.

Just take some time before you root. Make sure it not defective and just give it a test run so you know after you root its not causing you problems
Members are expected to research and read through the development threads before altering their device. The only thing you will get here is a list of all the ROM's because every member has found what is best for them. You can get the same list by looking at the first few pages in development. Try each Rom out until you find what you are looking for.

Beans ROM, Hyperdrive, ButterBoost, or Stock.

I've tried all three and really can't decide which one I like the most. Which on are you using and why?
Sent from my Beans Powered N3 using xda app-developers app
I've been using Hyperdrive since the first build came out for Note 3 and the thing I like most about it is the battery life. I unplug at between 5 and 7am and by the time I go to bed at night I'm usually still around 75 - 80%. Of course it runs much smoother for me than stock does and I like the customizations that come along with it as well. I tried to flash Beans last night just to check it out but for some reason it wouldn't boot so I just restored my nandroid. I'm planning on flashing Beans when I get a little more time and checking it out but for now I'm extremely pleased with Hyperdrives performance on my device.
Eclipse
Im gonna wait on Nitro and his fabulous eclipse rom, it will be awesome, right now running stock trimmed out.
Try both and see if you like either one better than stock.
I basically switch everyday cause they're both so good

Might as well do this. With SafeStrap, you can load up multiple ROMS and switch as your heart desires. Honestly, don't know why phones with unlocked bootloaders don't have a Recovery that allows ROM slots. Seems to make perfect sense so you can load up more than one ROM. Just like partitioning your hard drive and running Windows on one side and Linux on the other. You can chose what you want to use, when you want to. Cant beat it.
But to answer your question, I am running HyperDrive since version 1. Havent really tried Beans. Sure it runs just as good. I am just happy with Hyper right now.
Stock with xposed framework and modules. While i appreciate everything the dev's do, development is not far enough along to leave stock with xposed yet.
Also on stock with too many mods in xposed to count. I seriously can't see any reason to flash a rom. I'm consistently getting up to 2 days uptime and I have all the mods I could ever want.

So i struggled for the longest time why one rom on my phone would play nicer than the other , if they both use the same base.
So I formulated a theory , which can be really wrong , so take it with a grain of salt: Currently I have close to 120 user apps and wanam xposed with multiple customizations. I feel like your set is up is the reason why one rom will be buggy with poor battery life and other will be phenomenal. That is why you will find people swearing with one and hating the other. It is hard to find a perfect rom for all, since android varies tremendously due to its wonderful inherent ability to be customized.
of course you can also argue for coding, build boxes and smali skills.
which goes back to the main point, you need to try it out because compatibility between the developer's build and your set up is key to the perfect rom combination
so dont be startled if you try a rom that others rave about and it sucked on your phone , just move on and vice versa.

I totally agree with you there. My battery life on HyperDrive is ridiculous. I can go almost two days before I need to plug my phone in. I'm very satisfied with HD and don't plan on switching anytime soon. I ended up staying on RLS2 cause my theme was causing my phone to reboot whenever I pressed the lock button after I took the RLS3 update, but overall HD is a very solid ROM and I'm quite content with it.
I just recently flashed the newest hyperdrive update RLS3 On 11/27 I'm having problems on the power menu doesn't show the power off also in the very top next to the clock it shows a lock icon what is it there for and can I remove it

[Q] Xposed framework? [SOLVED]

Did a quick search but couldn't find a definite answer, so does anyone know if the Xposed framework is compatible with stock rooted G2? It's the Sprint ZVA variant, deodexed. I'd really like to customize this phone a lot more but to be honest I'm really not too impressed with many of the custom roms because I've found a nagging bug in just about every rom I've tried. Stock seems to work best and provide solid battery life, call quality, etc so I'd prefer to stick with that, and customize the hell out of it.
Edit: tested, works great on stock with G2 Xposed. I am even able to install CM themes on stock with HK Theme Manager.

Thanks. I'm using stock 4.2.2 rooted. I just thought I'd ask before experimenting. I'm a bit leery of accidentally sending a phone into a boot loop that has a sealed in battery. (Though I hear volume up+ power will reset it, which is handy)

You must try. I like the feel of AOSP, it's smooth! But camera is less and sometimes you have some troubles
(I like Cyanogenmod en SlimLP, but take a look and try is my advice)

Appreciate the response! Couple questions , how hard is it to switch back and forth if needed? Hows the battery? Gps? On cloudys rom everything works great, even has a nice ui. Just getting bored with lg lol. Love flashing cause its like getting a new phone

Switching isn't that difficult. If you go to Cloudy: use patch, reboot recovery, restore back up. If you go to AOSP (5.1), flash bootstack, reboot recovery, restore back up.
Cloudy: UI is fine, rom is stabel and fast, battery is ok, GPS is ok, photo quality is better (I sometimes have wifi problems, but it looks not as a common problem)
