How to I change homescreen shortcuts? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I change my homescreen shortcuts, the way you can change and customize the lockscreen shortcuts? I'd like to change change the Messaging shortcut to Hangouts, and the Browser shortcut to Chrome.

That should be pretty simple!
When on your home screen, tap and hold your messaging app and then move out to the top right corner (it will show a trash bin when you tap and hold, move it to there). Now enter your app drawer and find hangouts. Tap and hold it and move it to the desired space

Touchwiz - Changing Messaging Shortcut at the bottom

Hey guys, I'm trying to give Touchwiz a chance before I inevitably switch to Launcher Pro or ADW. I'm using Handcent for SMS and wanted to know if anyone's found a way to change the Messaging shortcut at the bottom that's built into Touchwiz. I'd just like to get it to point to Handcent instead of the default messaging app.
menu > edit > customization.
open app drawer... long press handcent... move to bottom drawer and replace messanger.
you can then swith back to whatever view you prefer.
Ahhh i see..you have to have Customizable Grid selected as the View Type in order to do what u said. I was on the default Alphabetical grid.
Thanks!

Two quick questions

Is there any pc interface to rearrange a phone's screens?
Is there any app similar to the Blanks app for iphone?
(Create invisible icons to better organiza folders, etc)
You mean just a dummy to fill the spot where you'd like a blank space? I suppose you could make a do-nothing app (immediately returns) and give it a transparent icon. I've never heard of "Blanks" for IPhone. Is that what it does?
Its actually called iBlank, all it does is create a "homescreen" bookmark that opens safari, then opens iblank, then crashes and returns to the homescreen.
Also, do not need to add any blank icons to my vibrant, I can.place the icon anywhere on my device, but perhaps this is just Samsungs Touchwiz at work.

Missing Home Screen ICON??

Well the other morning i turned my phone on and noticed something really strange. At the bottom of my screen where the MAIN ICONS are, PHONE, MESSENGER, CONTACTS, and APPS, I am now missing the ICON for CONTACTS.
To repeat, instead of 4 icons, i now have 3?? And my contact icon is MIA. Inorder for me to access them i had to go to my APPS and bring it to my homescreen. Has this happened to anyone else???
Folow these instructions. Hit the apps drawer icon. Once inside, hit Menu>Edit then drag the contacts or whatever icons you want in to the dock. Then save and problem solved.

Don't drag it towards the trash can but instead to the end of that drawer to the left of the 1st icon.
Do you BONSAI?
Ok. Hit the Home soft button to go to your homescreen. Hit the blue icon on the bottom of the screen that looks like a window, this is your Applications drawer. Hit the Menu soft key, then click the Edit option on the screen. Drag the contacts icon, or whatever you choose, and drag it into the dock. You can configure the three icons to whatever you want them to be. Easier?

thanks guys, i was able to add another icon into the tray, i chose to add facebook instead of contacts, since u can add contacts from other screens.
Also, you can enter contacts from the phone icon as well. The contact icon is redundant in my opinion.

Disable lockscreen App shortcuts?

Somehow I always manage to accidentally swipe over to the camera shortcut or the shortcut page to the left of the lockscreen and then I have to hit swipe back to the lockscreen page and press the arrow on the bottom to be able to unlock. Is there a way to disable the screens on the left and right so this won't happen?

You can disable the camera by swiping to the left then tapping to add widget. You will see a list of widgets w camera at the top. Just uncheck it. But the left swipe will still be there...
Maybe ask in the G2 Tweaksbox thread if the option to disable swiping to another screen can be added?
That is exactly what I needed, had no idea you could disable that in that menu. Thank you!

Want To Improve Stock Launcher Search

Hello fellow awesome phone owners.
I'm trying to use the stock launcher for a bit, it's mostly fine. I'm looking to improve one aspect.
The search function inside your app drawer is pretty nice. Definitely the best Samsung has done. It searches your apps, but also other functions and online choices. The weakness is you have to type in the field at the top of your drawer.
Is there any app or shortcut that could make that search the default action instead of opening the app drawer? If the keyboard just opened automatically it'd be perfect for us who have hundreds of apps.
Open your app drawer, click the menu top right corner, go o finder settings, click add shortcut. Go back to app drawer locate finder icon and place it on your navigation bar (basically replace it with the app drawer button if it as enabled). Only solution that I can think of.

Clever, thank you. It's an improvement.
