[Q] Battery. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if this seems right. I'm a pretty heavy user, and sometimes I have pretty good battery life, and then other times I'm charging twice a day. Running plain ole non rooted stock.

I have the same issue as you

Since you're rooted I would download Greenify from the play store if you haven't already and use that. It will help. Also GPS from Google Now gives a lot of wakelocks and drains the battery a decent amount. I would turn off your GPS whenever you're not using it.

I'm not rooted. And I do actually have GPS turned off. I also have a lot of things that I don't use disabled.
I want to root, but can't at the moment because of lack of computer..
My search for a computer less root option is a constant failure.

GTalk and battery?

Curious, does GTalk consume a lot of RAM and does it have a great deal on battery? I want to leave it on so my daughter can IM me with her tablet when she's at her mom's. And great that it has video.. Haven't used gtalk in a long time. Thank you. I don't see it running in the battery history though... :/

I've used it on android for years and never felt like it had an adverse effect on battery life. Go for it.

What about ram? I know we have a lot on this phone but still want to know.. It runs in the background right?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Na, it doesn't take up much RAM. And yea, it does run in the background but it goes into Push mode after a while
No

Gtalk is very good on battery. Until you do a video call.

Ok, thanks guys.
Personally, I freeze Google Talk using titanium backup (you can disable it natively in apps on settings menu) because I don't use it. But since you have a usage for it, I don't think it uses a lot of ram. You have more than enough RAM so i wouldn't worry about it.
One thing definitely to do is to disable Google Latitude if you haven't already (it's in Maps and is on by default to report your location automatically). If they helped, press the thanks button
I dont use several Google services, and I freeze them without any problems.. Since sometimes they drain battery

Is there a way to disable Carrier IQ? It's annihilating my idle battery.

I keep my GPS off to help my battery life, but every once in a while the GPS turns itself on randomly and tries to get a lock. It's an issue because while I'm inside it really struggles to get a lock and eats battery like a mofo. I got to work with 97% battery and an hour and a half later I now have 85%.
What can I do to stop this from happening short of waiting for cyanogenmod?

Install System Tuner, free from market (lots of annoying ads, no big deal).
Click the red System Android, click Android System, Details, then uncheck all 7 CarrierIQ related processes.
Worked OK for me and no FC issues with calls or anything.

Which ones are carrier IQ? I don't see ant that are explicitly named...

There's a list in the carrier IQ thread in general

Less than 5 hours on a full charge?!

I know I'm a heavy phone user, but how are people saying they get 9+ hours of constant use, like watching videos, and I'm getting half that from texting, using Hangouts, and a couple social networking apps? My screen uses between 45-50% of that and the rest is apps, primarily the ones I use most.

I unplugged from a charger about 330pm, it's now almost 8 with the following stats. This is driving me crazy, I feel like I can't unplug it. So today I get almost 6 hours to almost 10%

What launcher were you using? I unplugged at 7-8 am this morning and attached are my stats. Sometimes it drains more than others but overall the battery life is pretty amazing.

Well, for starters wifi is at 0% which means ur constantly using 4G which can suck ur battery dry especially if you're in an area with bad reception.

My wifi always shows it's connected as a solid blue line, but I've been on LTE all day.
Might be a rogue app running in the background or something? I use the Active Apps widget and randomly end programs from time to time while clearing up the RAM as well. Hopefully it's just a rogue app or bad battery?

You're definitely not getting what you should. Look at my stats, a lot of wifi but also not as much held awake time on my phone considering what I have as Battery time. Take a look around there's things you can disable like bloatware that may be holding your phone from sleeping. Also see if you can reconfigure that one app, maybe it updates to often. I don't usually have any app drain more then kernel and the android system.
Or its your battery if you've done all that.

I was having that same problem when first got my phone. I'm pretty sure it was the new themer application it, worked fine until I uninstalled it, then my battery constantly needed to be charged. To originally fix it I backed up and factory reset it then it seemed to be working fine but now that I'm rooted I have been using greenify and it works like a dream. It tells you in better detail what's draining your battery and what wakes it up in your background as it tries to sleep. Now I get about 22 hours with pretty regular usage
With 56 minutes on screen time, I should get close to ten hours... you must have an app that is killing your battery or that uses data alot

Sorry uploaded wrong pic
Here is how mine is looking today so far, I would say my Note 3 outlasts my other phones no problem.. biggest offenders I noticed that wrecked mine was Google Settings>Location Reporting turned that off, and when I dont need it turn everything off in Settings>Location Reporting.. when I go out or want to use Google Now I turn it on .. I greenified a lot of the stupid apps like My Magazine or disabled them outright

Three things, one are you rooted. Two if not, is the beginning of it while you are sleeping or using it? If using it, what other things have you tweaked If not rooted.
And third but completely unrelated, I see you have a sense clock, if you want a great one that is pretty much a perfect copy of sense, take a look at "sense v2 flip click and weather". I use that and love it

I can't speak for Neo but I'm rooted, but before then I still had amazing battery life because I disabled most if not all the bloatware.
I've disabled most of the bloat ware, I think. I'm it rooted. I'm just always plugging this thing in

Bluetooth battery drain?

Stock G2, AT&T. Running KitKat latest update.
Since KK arrived, I've had major battery drain by bluetooth. I leave bluetooth off, but it is always the highest power user in standby. Anyone else have this, or know how to fix it?

the way I see Bluetooth is now like wifi even when it's off it's on but since it's in a low energy state it really shouldn't be draining your battery I've easily gotten 15+ hours while actually using the Bluetooth to play games with my moga controller and using my deck
I have the same issue.. im stock t-mobile on kit kat... and im currently getting the same amount of battery i was getting on my lg nexus 5.. which kind of sucked.. I dont think theres a fix yet

Maybe Phone Carrier
I think it's maybe related to your carrier too. They change something in the ROM to make compatible with network then release to your phone. For International and Korean Version is ok. But can you try to reset, if the problem still exist?
I have sprint and have been dealing with same issue since kk update. I don't even use bluetooth, always off, but yet saying keep awake 5hrs on a battery cycle.
I only experience it when I have wifi on at the same time, its weird.
From my experience on my phone, it's just a wrong reporting. Even with BT allegedly draining according to the battery stats, my battery life is still the same as before.

Another battery life thread

How can I tell if I have a wake lock or a battery issue? I have wakelock detector installed and I check my battery stats. It says in the lat 3 hrs I used 28%but I haven't done that much. I probably used the phone for about 15 min total . resetting didn't help. I left home at 7am with 100% its 1140am and I'm at 65%. I know Kik is running but I havent used it much. Also my on screen time is almost 2hr hrs but I haven't been using the phone. Its sitting on a desk and the screen isn't turning on .

Whoa kik a 2700 wakelocks its 6 hrs use?!?!?!?!?!
What type of apps are running and wuat settings do you have on ?

Kik is first thing I would remove.
I had installed Kik on all of my Android devices at home to kik with my daughter but this app was a battery killer. Happened on every device I installed.
I cannot believe that the Kik's creator hasn't fixed this issue yet.
Anyway, stop using Kik since.
Also
a. try to disable Knock On/Off feature.
b. try not to use Location Access
When u say location access you are referring to GPS? I have everything on this phone turned off , I greenyfied just about everything I could and I froze everything that's been listed in debloat threads. The battery life was pretty good before the past 3 days and I haven't installed anything. Reboot doesn't help
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Also is it possible for the battery to drain out quicker after rooting, greenifying and freezing things because whenever I do all this on a device it seems like the batteries drain faster than stock
