it seems sony ericsson has kept quiet but on PTCRB there are two new firmware versions, im not sure if SE is just tinkering with firmwares or actually going to roll out a new one but this does seem quite interesting

I don't think so.
But will wait for someone that have tested this to tell.
Most likely just a few little updates, or Sony Ericsson is really surprising me.

According to Norton Ink CEO:
Article said:
The CEO of Notion Ink, Rohan Shravan, is at it again with news about the Ice Cream Sandwich source code release, saying it will be released November 17. While it's tempting to just toss this aside as another rumor in the ICS/Galaxy Nexus craze of late, Mr. Shravan has a track record that shows he's usually right. Last year, he did the same thing with the Gingerbread release, accurately predicting more than could be a good guess, and just last month he told everyone about the OMAP chipset and Ice Cream Sandwich using them as a reference platform. When he talks, it's always worth listening, and the Nov. 17 date has already been thrown out there as the European release. If we see source code on the 17th, the 18th is going to be a very fun day for a lot of us.

If it really does come out, I know what I'm going to be thankful for this year.
Wrong. Turns out today was the day
lemme know when service pack 1 is out.

Cyanogenmod is. Steve (forgot his last name) just tweeted it recently and said to give it a couple months. I would guess when that is released then other modders will release roms based on it. I am not sure about sense versions though since i have no clue how the source code for that works and i would guess the shift isn't on sprints update list but hopefully I'm wrong. Also miui is sure to release a version most likely which will probably be ported. It will be a couple months until we have stable releases though so if you just can't wait your best option is to buy a nexus.
It looks like work has officially started on the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Cyanogenmod as per a Twitter post last Tuesday.
It's slated for a January release, so something to look forward to after coming down from the Christmas/New year celebrations

Link is wrong, has http:// twice!
Oh god, can't wait! But don't forget, as someone pointed out in the comments: it just says "check back", not "CM9 will be finished" in january - could be a beta release.
I honestly dont think he was being specific about a release date

True, but going off past releases hopefully it wont be too far off.
2.2 SDK was released May 2010, and a RC of CM6 came out in early July 2010.. stable by August.
2.3 SDK was released early December 2010, RC of CM7 was released mid Feb.

Yes but Google changed how the source code was released with ICS. No longer are they adding the needed device library files. Those have to be built from scratch or provided by the devices manufacturer
Found this just now. Android Guys has a screenshot showing Verizon R800x Users getting a mystery update 4/30

just saw this part..
If you don't have one of the aforementioned Androids, fret not. There are a few others (listed below) that have updates in testing, although it's not specified if the updates are to Ice Cream Sandwich.
HTC Thunderbolt- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 10th
Droid Bionic- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 3rd
Xperia Play- update in testing, OTA scheduled for April 30th
Galaxy Tab 10.1- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 3rd
LG Revolution- update in testing, OTA scheduled for May 16th
With any luck, we'll see some of these updates being rolled out over the next few weeks. I'd be willing to bet that at least one of them gets pulled because of bugs, but we can't all be perfect. More on this as it develops.
I believe the reason for so soon os Verizon does not use TimeScape but uses vanilla android.... so other then the SE framework... i am sure it make the development part easier...
Hmmm, but it says:
"...although it's not specified if the updates are to Ice Cream Sandwich."
I guess we'll just hope for the best.

Its quite possible.. however again R800x does not use Timescape... so I would imagine less troubleshooting and development to get ICS to work nice...... just my thoughts... If it is 2.3.4... I would still be happy to have it be at this point with ICS so close to being released.........why bother.... just release ICS...

Thats true.
Seeing how easy it is to port CM9 to CDMA compared to the ICS Beta, I can see why it would be coming this early.
But also, it mentions it would be one of the first Verizon phones to get an ICS Update. (Well, it was the first Verizon GB Phone )
I guess we will just have to wait till Tuesday to find out
I actually dont see Xperia Play in the screenshot. Maybe it is a bit too early?

Its not mentioned in the screenshot, my bad. It is mentioned at the bottom of the article.

I would love it if the R800x got ICS before all the other Xperia Play models do. Winning!

And there you go..... agreed. And here I was thinking Verizon forgot all about our little phone.... still dont like them but this helps....
edit...
KeiranFTW made a good point. Sony had already mentioned in regards to ICS that there would be bo OTA. So I wonder what it could be then? Isnt Sony supposed to announce something big next Tuesday?
Could it be PSN store in the US on Xperia PLAY?

As far as no OTAs are concerned, Sony did say they weren't pushing them. That doesn't necessarily mean that Verizon isn't able to do one themselves. After all, CDMA wasn't supported in the beta, so maybe Sony has handed us over for good?

Well, after the past 2 bulls*** weeks (High School drama) At least something cool shows up.
I hope this actually comes out, I'm already in a slightly better mood. lol
I'm betting you they are going to announce something like a new phone or something, they've been doing a lot of new phone planning lately, with:
Xperia S LT26i Nozomi
Xperia U ST25i
Xperia P
Xperia ACRO HD
Xperia Sola
All a part of the NXT series

i never saw this coming, i thought the last thing would be whatever scrapes sony decided to throw cdma's way.
this is very good, even if its just 2.3.4 then at least we get some big updates thats been lacking...
but agree i think it would have to be ICS, i mean why talk about anything else?
According to this article we'll be having android L soon!
What are your opinions and expectations ?
hope someone will find a way to root, otherwise I'll stay with kk untill this happen.....I think....
Z3 Series and Z2 only for now.

I expect better camera.
I think the reason we are getting it later than other xperias is because they have to strip down the Z2 Firmware and remove some features (simple marketing you know).
Z1 and Z2 are pretty similar in hardware.
mischa_martin
honestly we will get only UI overhaul nothing else.
And i hope they fixed the wifi-lags/packetloss/timeout problem... this is really troublesome that no data will be transmitted or received while wifi is active...

The FS in itself is a good step forward performance wize, it should help just having this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Runtime
I hope it helps the "camera has stoped" bug and fixes the different bluetooth glitch. As for the rest, I think the Z1 is already a great phone as it is. You can't expect "big" update (like the 120FPS or 4k in camera) for an "older device". I'd be realy surprised if they did and that would make the difference (for me) for my next smartphone (which is it the near future).
ART, security fixes, UI overhaul, lots to look forward to. Plus, still getting updates is good, although this will be the last big one. Then one more on cyanogen I think. Still life in the Z1
5.0.2 roms are been tested already for the Z1.
Z2+ roms are in an operator acceptance test level, thus will be released sooner.
