No recovery, no pink screen. But..... - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

For the sake of saving my time and yours, please know that I am not a noob and I know how to backup/restore, enter recovery and pink screen, wipe before flashing and I used the correct version of ROM. But either a corrupt backup or a bad SD card got me to where I am now.
I had a phone (U8800-51) that was essentially bricked after I tried to restore a backup made with CWM. I had access to the pink screen and I could see the image partition when I booted to pink screen and connected to my PC. but restoring the backup image made with DiskImage_1_6_WinAll did me no good whatsoever and I could not get into recovery. The phone would turn on the ATT logo for a few seconds then shut off.
Soooo...I purchased a new phone (brand new for $27.00) and am now using it with stock 2.2.
But as a last resort, I removed the battery on the old phone, plugged it into my PC and tried to update using GB update.zip from the SD card. Imagine my surprise when it worked.....sort of. I now have a phone with GB 2.3.5 but no recovery or pink screen. No matter how I try it always boots to the OS. Also no mobile service. WIFI works great. So it is essentially a mini-tablet with no way to flash or customize it beyond this version.
Not a life changer since it is an extra phone. I may just use it as an MP3 player for my car. But it would be nice to be able to get it back to stock and working as a phone. It is a U8800-51.
Any suggestions?

UPDATE - everything works except Mobile service.

Okay, I was able to get into pink screen by erasing the dload folder, removing the battery, and connecting to my PC via the USB cable. I then copied CWM 5.0.2.7 over and then flashed Stallion-51-ICS onto the phone. I now have a very fast, rooted and customized U8800-51, BUT no mobile service. IMEI and APN info is correct but it won't access the mobile service that our other phones access, SIM is the same one that I use in my current phone.
Still looking for any suggestions you all might have.

Nandroid restore left other stuff around? (No ADB, No SD) [SOLVED]

Hi all,
I think I've managed to partially brick my phone, the bizarre thing is that it still mostly works, but I've lost PC connectivity, Wi-Fi and the SD card!
Had my Hero (on Orange UK, standard Orange ROMs) for a while, so thought it about time to play with rooting it and trying some new ROMs out.
Installed Amon-Ra's recovery image (v1.5.2), did a nandroid backup, copied everything obvious off the SD card to my PC (usual precautions).
1. Installed Amon-Ra recovery 1.6.2 - all ok
2. re-flashed with the rooted "stock" HTC image 2.73.405.66, and latest radio (JU6.35.09.26) - all looked ok for a few days
3. decided to try out one of the android 2.1 roms (BeHero) - that got stuck on the boot logo for about 50 mins, so figured that wasn't working.
So tried re-flashing the 2.74.305.66 as that was still on the SD card. That kept re-booting, so I gave up and restored my nandroid backup.
Then things really went wierd!
1. On boot-up I get a notification that the SD card has been removed, even though it is there. Will try to get a clean one, and re-format on the PC, but I'm guessing the partition table has been corrupted?
2. Wi-Fi doesn't work - it just says "Can't start Wi-Fi"
3. If I look in the ROM settings, I'm clearly using the rooted 2.73.405.66 and latest radio! My nandroid backup should have been the default Orange ROM and old radio, and I've definitely went back to that in terms of apps, setttings, etc... Not sure how I still have the new ROM!
4. No PC connectivity (this is a bummer), when I plugin I get "USB device not recognized" on the PC, and the phone claims it is "charging (AC)", I don't get the usual notifications about USB mounting or syncing. So ADB/fastoot don't see it. Not sure if this is related to the SD issue, or the ROM version (maybe I've got a mis-match somewhere)
Other than that, the phone works fine, I can sync with google, internet (though that is a bit flaky), and download apps. Battery life seems to be down to 1 day though, so maybe I still have some android 2.1 stuff lurking around.
Without an SD, I can't download any ROMs though, and without a PC connection, I can't use nandroid or try to debug it that way... Guess I'm stuck?
Anyway, just curious if anyone had any suggestions.
Cheers.
Dan
did you do a wipe before you restored the nandroid restore? if not then thats the problem, always do a data wipe before restoring nandroid backups
have you tried reflashing the radio? also try to wipe after restoring the nandroid, just in case.
edit: valid point about wiping BEFORE flashing. what i meant is that if that doesn't work, try to wipe after restoring as well and see if it boots then.
cheers, no I didn't do a wipe as I figured the nandroid restore was the whole of the ROM, so it would overwrite everything.
Done a wipe now but still no joy. Can't reflash anything without SD or PC access...
Still confused as to why the restore has clearly left a newer ROM in place...
can't you just enter recovery do a wipe and then re flash the rom. recovery should have access to the sd card regardless of what state the rom is in.
I thought you should have tried it, but on a second read, did you try mounting the SD card through recovery?
Hi,
I just tried that again, and even the recovery tool can't mount the SD card, I have re-formatted it and have a clean 2Gb one as well, neither can be seen from the recovery partition.
Looks like I've managed to get it in some really bizare state, my gf says I should have left it alone, don't think I'm ever going to live this down

Have you tried powering up WITHOUT the sd in, then once it is fully loaded, insert ur SD and see if it picks anything up.
just tried that, no joy...
the loss of PC comms is confusing me too, even in recovery mode... might have to claim I dropped it and send it back to orange!
Eventually managed to sort this out, the phone had gone into some strange testing mode, that disabled the uart (USB) and the sdcard.
Found a really useful post on Modaco's forums, search for "No ADB & No SD", look for post #81.
Turned out I had to use fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 to turn on the SD card (at which point WiFi magically started working again!), then reflash the SPL (scary!) which allowed the mystical command "fastboot oem eraseconfig" that also re-enabled the UART and USB connectivity was restored!
As a bonus, I now have SPL 1.76.2007 which has the fastboot holes in, and allows me to remote boot a recovery image. Previously I had 1.76.007 which was locked against that (so had to reflash recovery).
Just goes to show there is almost always a way back!
Excellent,... I this may just help out others.
Do us a favour though pal,... press edit on your 1st post, to change your thread title. Maybe "Nandroid restore left other stuff around?... No ADB, No SD,...... [SOLVED]

Boot Loop and my efforts to fix it, all failed. Help?

Hi guys. I seem to have outdone myself and am now stuck with a phone that plain refuses to boot any more. Let me give you some history so you get the full story.
Not long after I got my U8800 (18 months ago, 'ish) I decided to change my ROM to MIUI because I wanted to get rid of Froyo and Huawei were being incredibly slow to update officially. I did this with minimal troubles and ran it for a long time, updating etc. as needed to be done. Then along came ICS ports and I admit it, I had to fiddle once more...
I downloaded Aurora and read up in here on how to get it on my phone. It seemed before I did anything I needed to set my phone back to the defaults I had and this involved installing Froyo then the latest stock ROM for the U8800. I did all this without hassle and then tried to get the ICS on.
I don't know if it was me, bad reading, something built into the new stock ROM or what, but I could not get the ICS ROM on my phone no matter what I tried. It seemed to have issues deciding if it was rooted or not, it said it was but then failed to work when I needed it to, plus CWM Recovery completely failed to work for me and I just kept getting the stock recovery when trying to boot into it. ROM Manager was also being a pain and kept insisting my phone was a U8160 when previously it had worked as a U8800 (I may have flashed to the U8160 and having thought this I assumed this was my mistake).
I tried various methods of getting to my cust_ folders and manually changing the recovery.img but everything I tried ran into the same "is it or isn't it rooted" problem.
At this point I gave up and stayed with the official stock ROM from Huawei for a bit.
Two days ago I decided I couldn't hack the defaults any more, my phone was slower and I missed the MIUI way of doing things. I decided to have another go!
Ok, we are up to date, thanks for reading so far if you have.
I decided to try getting to the recovery.img again by doing the pink screen and connecting to my PC, problem was when I did this nothing ever showed on my PC, so I looked for other methods.
I uninstalled ROM Manager, because it still insisted I had the wrong phone and found the app, Root Explorer, it worked! Wish I'd have found it weeks ago. I instantly had access to the folders I needed and could mount them etc to overwrite/backup my recovery.img and as I was a little worried about the rooting thing again, despite Root Explorer working I though what harm can it do to overwrite the boot.img too. I did both by copying the originals to my SD Card and pasting the new ones that I had previously placed on my SD Card through the USB connection. I used the files recommended here: http://android.modaco.com/topic/340...-and-then-some-for-the-huawei-u8800-ideos-x5/ and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14870348
I rebooted the phone and again failed to get into CWM Recovery, just the default Android one.
I then hunted down another recovery and found this: http://www.androidxpert.com/2011/08...k-work-mod-recovery-on-huawei-u8800-ideos-x5/
It worked! I could finally get into CWM Recovery and figured I was home free.
Not so
I then downloaded the same stockwell MIUI I had used previously as I knew that worked, his latest stable version, and dropped the zip on my SD Card. Went to install it and found that CWM Recovery refused to mount my SD Card (16 gig sandisc). Tried a couple more times because I had issues with this card before and then the card ended up corrupted or something because it just refused to work now on anything I had. This was fairly major because I had backed up to this SD Card and forgot to take the backup off and into my PC for safer storage... I know... I do have the back up of recovery and boot.img though on my PC.
It was at this point I noticed I had a boot loop but could still get into CWM Recovery.
Not panicking too much, I tried my old 4gig SD Card, it mounted! I copied the MIUI Rom across to this card, booted into recovery and selected it. It stated it was installing etc but seemed to go pretty quickly. It said it was done so I rebooted as is the norm. Boot Loop. Damnit! Tried this a couple more times, made sure I once again wiped cache, dalvik etc, all of the things it states to do on the ultimate guides etc. Nothing.
Again, still not panicking I thought, fine, I will go back to stock rom. Downloaded the correct one, dropped dload into root, booted using vol + and - and up comes the unpacking screen. Trouble is it refuses to unpack. I quickly look on the net and find that some say if you take the battery out and connect just using the USB it will install it that way, maybe it does for them but it doesn't for me, it just boot loops again.
I am now at my wits end.
I have the feeling its something to do with my changing of the boot.img and I have the original should it be that but I cannot access the insides of my phone through Windows to change anything, plus of course I can't boot the phone due to the loop to change it back using Root Explorer (otherwise it would work anyway).
Is there anything you guys can help me with?
I can install Linux if needed, I read that it lets you view the phones file system better compared to Windows and with my slight knowledge of Linux Id quite expect this but even so, I am not sure what to do.
Any advice/solutions are extremely welcome.
Sorry for the long post, figured I should give as much info as possible.
So what was the latest Huawei official firmware you had on your phone?
What version of CWM are you trying to use?
What version of the huawei official rom did you have on the phone when you tried to install aurora?
What was the last huawei stock rom you tried to install?
Try and get a 2.2 froyo stock rom and flash it using the vol+and- method. This should hopefully get your pink screen back and access to recovery and boot.img. You can then use any recovery earlier then 5.0.2.6 and install stockwells miui.
It sounds like you have a Gingerbread based official rom flashed which you would have needed to flash aurora and are dropping bits into it like boot.img, roms and recoveries which are for froyo.
If this is the case and you can still get into recovery, I would try flash another rom like sbasils miui or wipe everything and format /system and then flash aurora again.
Ok, not sure what changed but, I figured whilst I wait for a reply I may as well keep playing and try to fix it myself still. So I stick my battery back in, was out all night, plug it in the USB as I wasn't sure what juice it had left and turn it on with vol + and - down for that one last try at the default install.
It starts unpacking!
I have no idea what changed, I did nothing different bar having left the battery out all night. Can it have had something in the residual memory?
Anyway, short version. Installed the default froyo, updated to the beta gingerbread (stock and latest).
Back up everything to internal storage this time, just incase and went to superclick to see if I could root it again, it did so. Used Root Explorer to copy CWM Recovery.img over, backed up it all again using CWM to internal, rebooted, worked.
At this point I got silly again and having it all backed up a few ways now decided to try Aurora again, 2.4 this time. It works.
Again, no idea what changed but its going again and after an initial mess with the SC Card again, that works too now.
Sorry to have wasted any ones time with this, though I still really appreciate the reply even if it seems to have fixed itself.
I just wish I was sure what fixed it so It could help others who have the same issue, unfortunately I don't
great stuff, seems upgrades are just a bit hit and miss on this phone. glad it all worked out.

[q] hd2 boot problem

Need some advice, phone running NexusHD2-ICS-CM9-V2.7, backed up using CWM and tried to flash nexus jellyBean by changing partirion to 400mb, phone would not boot passed cyanogenMod screen, wiped system changed back to 250mb partition and restored system but now phone will not boot passed ICS screen, have tried reflashing ROM but still same problem, any thoughts please.
I believe I should have said that the phone is in ICS animation and that is it, cannot get passed this, have tried everything apart from dropping the phone in a bucket of water. Have cleaned out everything but the restore will not work.
Is there a solution?
IMO you should try a fresh installation of whatever ROM you want: wipe everything(including microSD, but before do a backup) and install it from scratch!
Good luck!

This is getting very frustrating having checked dozens of posts cannot find a logical solution, tried every possible solution I can find. I can get into all features of system,2.08HSPL shows, CWM, MAGLDR, usb screens okay, in short everything okay bar cannot fully load any ROM past animation screen, have tried task 29 but will not load RUU just sits at HTC with bar and the has communication error. Can the the phone be bricked when all functions are available? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Can you run SD roms past boot anim?
Have you performed a NAND check from MAGLDR? Might be bad NAND blocks.
Well guys after hours of trying to sort this out I have come to the sad conclusion the phone is stuffed which has left me depressed, I have tried:
Restore from my original backup all loads good but does not bootup
task 29 (error 262) does not seem to recognise windows sync
Tried loading from cd using nbh but tri-colour boot loader will not search for file
It is a shame as I can get into all the bootloaders which people tell me should load but no luck
Thanks for your help HD2 goodby

you're probably using too big an SD card, is it bigger than 8gb?
If so, put the LEOIMG.NBH file on an 8gb or smaller card, and get into tricolor, it should load.
Yes I am using a 16gb card, in the meantime I have managed to restore the phone back to ics nexus v2.7, not sure how I did it but in case anybody has the same problem here goes'
I had to get back to WM 6.5 no matter which ROM I tried could not get the custom RUU to load, (probably due to the sd card size) but I noticed I had a custom RUU sitting on my desktop (not sure why there but probably from past messing about) as a last resort I loaded this and bingo within a short time windows loaded up and from there reflashed ICS and restored from backup, working perfectly what a relief. Goes to show ignorance sometimes wins. Details of the custom RUU used.

This worked with the 16gb card, I would like to go to jelly bean but am I pushing my luck. Can you just reload CWM with a 400 partition?
Have a nice day

[Fixed] Black Screen on Boot

Hello.
I just rooted my phone for the first time with Motochopper and flashed the Google Wallet Mod. Everything was working fine until after a while I tried turning my screen on and it wouldn't turn on. I rebooted the phone and the Samsung Logo with the Custom Lock logo appears for a short while, then the screen goes black. After about 20 seconds the blue LED stays constantly lit and slowly fads in and out - after a few minutes the device becomes really hot. The screen stays black and I can't do anything. Is there any way to get my phone back to normal without deleting everything off my phone and restoring the stock ROM?
I have a US AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 16GB (SGH-I337).
Any help is appreciated,
Thank you.
-Problem fixed.
You have any backups? try restoring one and see if you get the same result. If not, odin back to stock would be your only option.

Unfortunately I don't have any backups. This is my first Android phone, coming from an iPhone, and I'm still getting used to rooting as opposed to jailbreaking. I installed TWRP before I flashed the Google Wallet mod but thought I would be fine until I get an external micro SD card to create the backup on. Is there any way I can access and transfer my photos that are on the device either via Recovery Mode or Download Mode to my computer before I loose everything restoring back to stock?
If you just rebooted thru power menu, try pulling battery--
Did you try manually booting into recovery--

The first time I rebooted, I used some combination of the power and home button because when I tried to turn it on the screen was black. Something must have happened while the device was idle because everything was fine but when I turned it on it wouldn't come on so I rebooted. When it boots, the screen stays black with the blue LED and if I try to reboot, the same thing happens - it's stuck in a loop and the only way to turn it off is to pull the battery out. I can manually boot into recovery, but I have no backups. I've tried doing a Factory Reset in the TWRP, but no dice.
Wow--lesson learned hard way--ALWAYS have backup on phone and pc, including a copy of your sdcard--
That should be at top of every phone forum stickies--
I am not expert on Samsung yet. But, on my HTC phone we would have downloaded a rom to the pc and thru adb pushed it to phone then wiped and flashed it.
It is easy, but you will need to get adb files on your pc or download and install Android ADK. I think if someone has them for this phone you can copy them to pc and put in adb folder and bypass SDK. They are in some of the exploits like motochopper. Matter of fact you could probably extract motochopper and put in your download folder or to desktop and run adb from there. It has all the commands.
Some one else more expert on phone can confirm that and give exact push command to get rom to phone. I can Google it, just haven't used those commands for awhile,
It will be something like putting motochopper extracted folder onto pc. Opening a terminal window and cd'ing to where ever you put it
Then typing adb push rom.zip /sdcard rom.zip
Of course you need to rename rom to "rom.zip" or use the exact name of the rom you put on pc.
That command will have rom.zip on root of sdcard
I pretty much had this happen to my phone -

I am on an iMac and use Android File Transfer. Not sure how they do it on PC as I thought we still can't mount sdcard in Recovery. Maybe Kies if it works for you. But, if you can only get to recovery and no backup, pushing a rom may be the answer. Come morning you'll get more answers. One thing I noticed coming from TMobile HTC to US ATT, not much overnite posts since we are all within 3 hour time zones. With Tmobile, lots of Europe folks.

Lesson well learned. When I get my phone up and running my first priority after re-rooting will be making a backup.

I was actually able to mount USB Storage via TWRP and use the ADB command adb pull /sdcard/DCIM/Camera to extract the photos off my phone to my computer. Now it's not so bad if I have to restore to default.
Always always backup FIRST before attempting to do anything, that is lesson one period.

Great. Since you are up on adb you can easily push a rom. I will have to try to mount in recovery again. I think android file transfer messes with mounting.

Am I Soft Bricked?

Long story so please bear with me. I have a Sprint I9505. I had installed a rom which made me lose mobile data and I eventually called Sprint to help me restore it. I of course did not mention that They did a great job of helping me but one of the things that they made me do was a hard reset. I did so and went about going through the process of re-configuring my phone but it will not let me get past the wi-fi set-up screen because the wi-fi will not turn on. So that's where I am stuck. I rebooted into recovery mode and see that I still have CMW installed but it will not read my external 64g card nor will it let me mount it. My intent was to restore a nandroid back-up that I had made prior to installing the rom that gave me the issues. But no luck. I have my phone next to me and although it is not going past the wifi set up screen, I still hear my phone vibrate and the screen turns on so I assume that I'm still receiving notifications. I tried to install the I9505 firmware and go back to stock but it fails everytime with about 10 percent to go. I tried to download the firmware for Sprint but it gives me a download error after completion (I assume that it is a PC issue not a firmware issue). So I'm assuming that I'm not totally screwed since I can still get into recovery mode. I'm in a bit of a time crunch since I'm going out of the country Saturday and would like a working phone before then. Thanks to all of you in advance for any help that you can provide.

Try to flash the stock firmware + .pit file for your phone using Odin
Thanks, I'm the process of downloading the Sprint firmware from a different link from my previous one to see if that works or if it's my PC.

Sigh most wifi and data issues from roms come from a kernel issue never hard reset with faulty connections you should of imediately went into recovery and flashed the nandroid some roms arent out of the oven yet i would put that card in a card reader see if you can copy the nandroid and push it to the phones internal storage (if all possible) and see if it will boot off of that if not see if you can get the ruu
