[Q] Recommendation needed - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone suggest a media player that can do the following?
Works on the Nexus 10
Can accessing my home music library remotely. By remotely I mean it can access my music library that is on a harddrive connected to a device call the transporter. The transporter allows me to access the drive over the internet.
Can stream/play video
Can stream/play mp3, flac, ogg files.
Thanks in advance.

Is the transporter a DLNA server?
If so, I use CS Media Browser and Aviate.
CS Media Browser used to be called TVersity Player named after the TVersity media server.
Aviate supports Chromecast which is neat for watching your stuff on your TV.

Plex is what I use. It isn't free but its been around forever so there are hardly any bugs*

I haven't tried AllShare, but after my experiences with DLNA client on my Samsung TV I will not bother and try to find another DLNA client for Android.
I've streamed from my Tab to a Windows Media Centre PC and it worked fine.
The only "oddity" is that in AllShare, I can select the "Server" ok, but but I can't seem to actually select the "Display Device" so that I can press the next button. However, Media Centre can see the Tab, and can stream from it.
Regards,
Dave
Your best bet for a DLNA server is Tversity if you need transcoding.
If you don't, Samsung released their own DLNA server, the Samsung PC Share Manager, for their TVs. This server works fine to stream over AVIs and content that will play natively on the Tab anyway.
PS3 Media Server transcodes to streams not supported by the Tab.. it's a poor choice as it's tailored so specifically for the PS3.
Tried tversity still no luck with this allshare app. Would be nice to get this working.

Tried PS3 Media Sever and no luck. Basic media sharing on my WHS and my win7 box allows me to stream avi's but not MKVs. MKVs do play natively though so its the default player that is having the issue I think.
I wrote a quick "how-to" a bit ago here.

What is the error ? "an error message" makes diagnosis difficult.
PS3 Media server uses reasonably standard DLNA protocols, the main problem with most formats is just allshare being _very_ limited in the codecs that it supports.
You're better off getting CIFS working via threads elsewhere in this forum and mounting your media share as a local folder on the GTab. The native video app even plays .MKV files much to my amazement.
"sorry this video cannot be played" thats the message , ill take your reccomendation and check out cifs. I thought that the all share app would support the same vid files as the native player but i guess not.

[Q] Twonky Screen Share - Choose different default Video Player??

Hey all,
Im using Twonky on mT4G to access my Buffalo Network Media server via WiFi in my home, and it is able to see all of my content.
However, it is not playing my movies.
If I use GMote to access my files (which streams via PC to phone) then I am able to view my movie files when using vPlayer as the video player.
My question is, can I use vPlayer instead of the Twonky media player to watch my movies from the Screen Share browser? If not, is there some other app (maybe a file browser?) that will let me browse and play the files on my Media Server, without needing to have my PC on?
Thanks!

[Q] Problem using DLNA

I'm unable to play media from my PC on my Atrix using DLNA. I get a message that reads " Sorry, internal error happened. The media file cannot be streaming played." Any ideas?
I'm able to stream and copy mp4s to my device no problem from a NAS. Most likely is a file compatibility issue. I couldn't play mpeg2s, but xvids played fine. Protected content wouldn't play either but that's to be expected.
My Xvids won't play.
I was having problems accessing PlayOn through DLNA.
UPDATE: Using the PlayOn Android apps works.

I can't use the DLNA with my Logitech Revue and with my PS3 I can only stream MP4 files. AVI's which play on my device can't be sent over DLNA yet if those files are on my PS3 they can be played.
If you can spare the CPU cycles, transcoding video through TVersity works great. So far I've had best results transcoding to WMV9. I haven't found anything it can't handle yet, and my video archive is a mishmash of containers and codecs.
I can stream an x264 mkv 1080p source to the Atrix as qhd wmv9 and it looks fantastic.
Does require a lot of CPU on the box running TVersity, so not a necessarily great solution for those currently using a nas or other embedded device for a DLNA server.

anyone able to get DLNA to work? I'm trying to stream some moves in .avi from my computer to my atrix by using DLNA, i can hear but no pictures. Does anybody know why?
What video codec is in your avi's? I was able to play most xvid avi's with other DLNA streamers like Fuppes before I switched to transcoding everything through TVersity.

Q: How did you get DLNA to play MKVs over TVersity streaming? Everytime i try to do that it says the media file can not be played. Before I had it Configured for my Xbox 360 so while the video of mkvs wouldn't show up, audio was crystal clear, now it only plays AVIs not MKVs not even audio always gives the media file cannot be played error. Can you post all your setting for tversity? I'd Appreciate that very much!

stream video

Hi im looking to stream video to my lg blu-ray player from my nexus 7. The player supports wifi-direct as well as dlna. Every app on the play store I've used requires me to use my computer to act as the dlna server. I'd love to know if their is a way to other make my tablet a true AP and run a dlna server from that so my player can just connect to it or how to use wifi direct to stream directly from my 7 without using a ap or a dlna server.
thanx guys

[Q] Best solution to play media stored on Windows?

I read and read and still not sure what the best approach is for streaming media (mp3, flac, mkv) to the N7 on the LAN from a Win7 PC. Any server software you could recommend that could potentially do transcoding on the fly if needed, with caching so that it happens only the first time a file is played and then maybe even be able to copy the transcoded/cached file to the internal N7 storage for offline playback?
And is MX Player the player to use on N7?
Thanks for your help recommending an end to end solution.

Have you tried iMediaShare? MX Player is probably the best player out there right now.
From the description of the app, I'm not sure how iMediaShare helps me. I'm looking to stream media files stored on a Win7 PC to my N7.
BSplayer has lan function and will stream any videos from any windows shares.ESfile explorer will let you veiw, stream or edit any files on your window shares. You don't need anything on your computer as long as it is setup for sharing on home network. Both of these work great and have been updated for 4.2.
^^this. I use es file explorer as a back end to access my media on the PC. Doing it this way allows you to use pretty much any media player software for the nexus that you prefer.
My current favourite is dice player.

Using ES File Explorer I can only get my shares to appear if I turn off my firewall (zonealarm). Can anyone confirm what I need to change to allow my phone to connect with zonealarm on?
Thanks
bubble up you can change where the files are rendered . it will also push thru the network from the share thru tablet and play on tv . can play file formats on the tv its not compatible with
Thanks for the ES File Explorer + MX Player tip. It seems to work well enough.
Next hurdle: any apps on the N7 that could help me organize the media better, e.g. show thumbnails for the movies, links to additional info, etc. the solution above is very spartan, just file names. I read about XBMC running on the N7, or Plex, or tversity - any of these worth the hassle?
I use xmbc media player ..its just perfect and no one is even close..its same as pc version and you cam find it here on xda for free

I recommend qloud media. It's free on the store and you can stream music pics and films from your computer. It works over 3g, local and remote wireless. Amazing I can watch my stuff at work during lunch and what not.
Highly recommended!

Wow, you're right crappy description of the app. The app does exactly what you want that's why recommended it. It's streams music and movies, using upnp servers on the computer side, like Windows Media Player and PS3 Media Server.
Next problem: any way to mount and play ISO files over the network? They are DVD rips and would like to avoid converting them. Any apps that act as a DVD player on the N7, able to mount the DVD ISO over the network?

Are you saying BS Player can mount ISOs made from DVDs and act as a DVD player? If so, any pointers where to look? I tried it and it didn't seem to be able to do anything with ISO files.
