[Q] send data from server to android client - Java for Android App Development

I have videos and images present on a server pc. I have to send these videos and images from server pc to android app via internet
should I create a website and then give the url of the videos for my app to load or is there any other efficient way to do this.
basically I want my server and android app to communicate with each other and send files and normal text data. I am coding in java .
any help in this regard is most welcome.
thanking you in anticipation

U can send simple data to an android client by using the google cloud messaging service. So send the url via this and load the video then. Look at the gcm documentation on the internet on how to implement this

How to develop the app like this

Hi All
I want to create the facebook chat application like the following one
But I don't know how to do that because I am new to android development please any one help me how to do that
Are you wanting to create a standalone application for facebook chat or a chat application similar to facebook chat?
If you are wanting to create a standalone facebook chat application you will need to look into whether facebook have a chat api you can access.
If they do, start by writing a super simple android app that connects to facebook chat and retrieves some kind of data.
And go from there.
Hi athornz
I have using smack api for facebook chat but it doesn't connect to the facebook server .It always producing the error connection is not available
Have you added permission for internet access into your android manifest?
It's quite an easy one to miss and will mean you app can't get any internet access.

Inline images in an email

I am going on a 7 day bicycle ride next week, from San Francisco to Los Angeles, and I want to send some emails while I'm on the road. One of my teammates made awesome banner images for each day, so I want to put those at the top of each email message.
I can create drafts in Gmail on the web, add the images, put some text and leave them ready to send. What I want to do as the days go by is edit each draft, add any updates or special mentions based on the events and send.
Unfortunately, when I access the draft in the Android Gmail app, the format is completely lost. The app turns the inline image into an attachment and it doesn't even get sent when testing.
Does anyone know of an Android email client (IMAP preferably) that does inline images? Even if it's with a URL or that allows HTML tags?

Hmm well you could try using the full computer page of gmail. Via the stock browser app.
Install flash player if you already dont have it - http://db.tt/LiJFLmj1
(Backup flashplayer.apk from my dropbox)
Then just open native browser app and check request full site under the pull down settings.

Hmm that's good to know! I found that Maildroid allows inserting the images inline. I can write up my drafts on Google Docs and then copy and paste into Maildroid and insert the images. This should make it fairly easy to do with just my phone.
Thanks for the help!

Help with chat application!

I am trying to make a chat application what integrates whatsapp and skype.Just trying out
What I'm confused about is that is there a possibility to make an app that receives and can also send messages in whatsapp and skype...without having installed them in the android phone itself...basically a chat application that uses whatsapp and skype to do so.I know I can build a chat application from scratch but this is just a question that came to my mind....
I mean Whatsapp+ accesses the chats from whatsapp...what can't other apps do it right?
Please help me with a tutorial or something...thanky :good:
Not possible with whatsapp or skype
ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO INTEGRATE WHATSAPP OR SKYPE IN YOUR OWN MESSAGING APP ,, SINCE WHATSAPP OR SKYPE DOESNOT PROVIDE ANY SDK OR API THAT CAN BE USED TO FETCH USER DATA FROM DEVICE TO ANOTHER APP..
You can integrate facebook in your app since it provides its own sdk that can be used in your any app.

SINCE YOU ARE MAKING AN APP FOR CHATTING YOU CAN REFER THESE PROJECTS FOR LEARNING..

Workarounds (OSX 10.8+ and Android)

Hello again,
I've been asking a lot of questions lately regarding my new Note 3, but up until recently have started to notice things that I am not able to do, in regards to syncing and integrating 4.3 with my OSX environment.
So what I like to try and start, is a thread that people can come to (me) and ask questions about how Android can work with the OSX apps similar to how the iPhone and OSX worked. :cyclops:
My first question is; Am I able to get S Planner to sync directly with iCal and have them push information between the two whenever one may get updated away from the home?
Thanks for any advice - and I'm sure there will be many more to come!
Or not.. ?

A quick warning up front: I've not got my Note 3 yet, so I'm not 100% sure this works with S Planner, but this should work assuming it uses the standard Android sync system and some some weird Samsung-only thing.
That said, on my Nexus 7 I'm using Marten Gajda's CalDAV-Sync to sync with iCloud (I assume that's what your Mac's syncing with) and it works fine if you set server caldav.icloud.com, use SSL and use your Apple ID username and password.
He also does CardDAV-Sync which can sync contacts from iCloud (use server contacts.icloud.com instead).
Not connected with the author, just someone who's been using the apps for several months now without problems. I'd link to the Play Store pages but I don't think I'm allowed to link in my first post
Thanks for that info! I did contact the developer regarding his app but was a bit concerned about the app permission and my login details. I've ended up just basically copying my info over to Google and deleted the info off of iCloud. Next is trying to figure out syncing notes to google keep ?

Hello again,
SInce my last post I have switched to a Nexus 5 and have been loving it ever since.
I had to RMA my current Nexus due to dead pixels and have only just come across how difficult it is to do a 'complete' backup of the device. (Similar to an iPhone) and have yet been able to figure it out.
My Nexus isn't rooted and therefore it seems it might be harder to do.
Do any ex-iPhone users have any suggestions on how they do a complete back up of their Android device?

Send 2 pictures to somebody else and receive response

Hello xda,
I'm trying to develop an app that will use the Facebook to create links between users. Basically I want to send other users 2 photos and a small text to Facebook friends. Can I use their API to accomplish this or at least get the friends list and send them some kind of data. If yes how can I later retrieve the data via my app and get the text and photos.
Or do I need to use my own servers and to accomplish this? If so can someone point me a good tutorial to learn this?
Thanks!
