I'm running MJ7 software on my Three network UK I9505, rooted with knox flag 0x1 and just installed Kies 3 and it's telling me to update my phone. Is this safe to do? Should I do it manually via Odin instead?
Device status is custom.

Yeah I anticipated that I will lose root but it's no big deal. It's just that with Kies 3 it let me all the way to ticking the boxes and the next step being update whereas the old Kies never let me go that far with custom status.
Also has a nice new warning in red about rooted phones potentially being damaged by updating, which I never saw before, hence why I asked. I presumed though that it's the standard Samsung warnings just in case something goes wrong
Just need to charge my battery because it won't let me update just yet at 77%.

Seems to work fine so far. Only issue is that Wifi isn't working. Factory reset or total reflash via Odin?

Use Odin v3.09
Untick Autoreboot
Flash modem
Take out the battery and put it in again
Turn on into Download Mode using (Vol Down plus Home button combi)
Flash Modem once more
Take out the battery and put it in again
Once done, unplug then reboot device manually.
If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with auto-reboot option turned off.
*EDIT: When u reboot maybe u dont have wifi. Try this wifi fix:
- Turn off ur phone
- Go to download mode
- Open Odin
- Flash this file as a phone/CP
- Ur phone will reboot, try ur wifi now

Hi there,
i have a rooted S4 i9505 with cwm installed.
yesterday i did an update from stock rom 4.3 to 4.4.2 (I9505XXUEMKE) via KIES.
the problem now....I cant turn on the wifi anymore. whenever i try to use the on/off switch for the wifi it instandly switches back to off.
is anyone else experiencing the same problem? has someone already a solution for that, before i will do a factory reset.

hmm - shouldn't really be a problem if you flashed stock, but broken wifi is a symptom reported when flashing old modem on new bootloader, if you have new stock sammy 4.4 then you will surely have new bootloader (check though by putting your phone into download mode and then check for KNOX references - if you got them you got new bootloader, if no then you are on the old one)
Click on the link in my sig for modem - that will take you to a thread that has all the newest modems - have a look through the most recent last 3-4 pages and you will find packages for modems for new bootloader, flash one of these and see what happens - BTW you need to flash in odin with 'reboot' unchecked, then when its finished power off your phone manually then put back into download mode and flash again, then repeat the procedure but this time tick 'reboot' and that should be done. BTW - the tar file goes into 'phone' not csc. You may need to unzip the modem package to get the tar file.
Let us know how you got on

you are on the new bootloader so you can flash the complete package - it has everything in it all in one package! - you won't brick your phone even if you flash the wrong modem, that is unless you did some thing real dumb like flash i9500 modem and even then I think its recoverable not that I suggest you try!!
depends where you are in the world - I used NB8 and it worked well for me in the UK - I'm on NB9 now and that seems nice also.
so to be clear flash this:
Combined package
For NewBootloader
GSM_Modem_XXUFNB8_and_LTE_Modem_XXUFNB8

hey guys, thank you!!!
the Wi-Fi is working again.
Nonetheless i still have one problem remaining, which i thought it would have been fixed as well.
but, when GPS is turned on, it tries to find the GPS position and the icon on the status bar continues appearing and disappearing permanently (every half of a second).
Beside the fact that it is really annoying having this icon flashing all the time it also causes the display to freeze.
Especially when scrolling from top to the bottom to open the notification area.
It sometimes also lets the system crush completely.
any idea what this could be?
thanks for your effort so far.

hmmm......... thats not right!
Suggest you find a stock sammy ROM and flash anew in odin - then root using cf root, then flash recovery - (TWRP is very good :good then go into recovery and wipe cache, dalvik, system and data - reboot and see what happens on nice new shiny sammy stock - if all is good pick the ROM/kernel you want (if you want) and go back to odin to reflash modem.
The only other thing I can think is that you have an app that is messing with gps?? Do the above though and you should be golden :good:
EDIT: don't wipe system unless you planning flashing a different ROM through recovery!

Hi, right way to flash the stock Samsung package, but after flashing a custom recovery, do not wipe system. There's no ROM after that so phone will not boot. And the newest modem is integrated in the stock package, so no need to flash it again.
And another advice: NEVER use Kies to update your phone. It has bricked 3 of mines.:cyclops:

Oops, well spotted! Yes, don't wipe system unless you have another ROM to flash through recovery. 3 phones bricked from kies huh? I never used it SVD don't think I ever will lol. Good old Sammy stock stuff, tbh that's why I steer well clear of anything stock Sammy unless absolutely necessary and last resort - I look at the farce they have made by forcing us to accept Knox pox!

my thought was to go into recovery mode and wipe everything and start from beginning in order to exclude that it could depends on some wrong settings or any software already installed....
I updated to 4.4.2 using Mobile Odin and my wifi was borked too.
I did notice after the update that there was a mismatch between my Baseband version (still the old 4.3 XXUEMKE) and the Build number XXUFNB8, and I recall seeing some message during the flashing process that security had blocked the kernel update and Triangle Away might help solve it.
I therefore ran Triangle Away to reset my flash counter, and then used Mobile Odin to have a second go at flashing just the Kernel, Recovery and Modem parts.
This was successful and I now have matching Baseband and Build, both XXUFNB8.
And my wifi now works again...
ok.. after making a factory reset wifi and gps are working fine again.
guess there was some missconfigured third party app...
but now, with a fresh system i do not understand why i am not able to assign a PIN for my lockscreen...
everything is greyed out except PIN and Password.
but even though setting up a PIN, the screen lock is always set to use Swipe......
damn, i shouldnt have updated to 4.4.2.... until now.. only problems with this new build....

Hi there all,
I've been encountering a weird issue with the i9505 S4 XUBMF8. For whatever reason, I am currently unable to flash custom ROMs on it. The phone is KNOX-free and I have previously flashed custom ROMs on it before. I am able to root via CF Auto Root, install Triangle Away, but whenever a file is copied onto the phone's storage it never completes successfully (for example Broodplank's ROM will always be 10-15mb short). Even downloading the custom ROM directly onto the phone via stock Browser results on a Status 7 error.
Changing from CWM Recovery to Team Win doesn't help either, nor changing usb ports / computers and cables. (I've used both Generic and Samsung-branded ones.)
This is a phone which has previously managed to run custom ROMs, flashes stock Samsung ROMs and Radios via Download Mode fine, and installs "unknown" .apks fine as well.
Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
Summary: Phone currently running stock XUBMF8 (Firmware it came out of the box with), roots fine and installs custom Recoveries fine, flashes fine via Download mode. Just refuses to copy files properly (despite multiple formats / factory resets / flash stock firmware) and refuses to flash custom ROMs via custom Recoveries.

XUBMF8 is android 4.2.2 for branded phones:

Apparently that doesn't work. I've tried resetting with stock, custom recoveries and through TouchWiz itself. It still gets the Status 7 error. Toggling "Verification Check" results in a failure, even though the MD5 checks out.

Hello Geeks out there! I deleted some Apps whit Rootacces and iam not able to use the Homescreen anymore, i dont see any applications and when i shortclick the menu button nothing happens. The buttons and everything is still working, also i did a Factory reset, which didnt solve the problem. Suggestions?
i didnt do a TWRP or custom recovery btw.
best regards and hopefully someonehelps me soon

That didn't work out so well, did it? That is why we should always make a backup.. that we can restore if things go wrong.
If you can't replace the items that you deleted, then you need to use Odin ( or Kies would probably work too) to reinstall a full stock firmware to fix your system. A factory reset only reverts user settings, it does not restore crucial system apps that have been deleted. Reinstalling the full firmware will replace the missing apps.

1. You can restore a backup if you made one.
2. You can replace the system apps that you deleted if you retained copies of them.

Did you terminate all Kies processes in windows task manager and enable usb debugging on the phone? Just pull the battery, wait 20 seconds, reinsert it and press volume down + menu + power simultanious to get into download mode.

Yes that possible as long as its G900F firmware. Just flash it with Odin 3.09.

hey so I tried flashing with odin and at the end it says failed and now my phone says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again."
I tried reflashing with the same downloaded israeli firmware from and the same thing happens. It still gets a blue ready sign in odin. any ideas of how to fix this?

Oke, just do the following:
- Disable Kies in windows task manager
- Pull the battery and wait 20 seconds
- Boot into downloadmode and connect to the pc
- Untick Auto Reboot in Odin 3.09 and place the rom in AP
- Hit start and when done pull the battery
- Boot into recovery and data factory reset and boot.

Do you have Teamviewer on your pc, i can help you from here if you want that. If so install TeamViewer and let me know.
This method never fails actualy:
Have you disabled Kies in windows task manager?
- Pull the battery, wait 20 seconds and boot in to downloadmode
- Place the .md5 file in AP, connect the phone with usb and untick Auto Reboot in Odin 3.09
- Flash the rom, pull the battery, boot into recovery and factory reset and wipe cache
- Reboot.

This problem is still happening, anyone else know what may be the problem? It seems as if it is Chinese, could it be a fake?

If you bought yours from a reputable seller, you don't have to worry about this but there are some fake galaxy s5 around. There are some differences that you can observe.
Hopefully this is not the case with yours.

Well I bought it from amazon. It seemed legit and it looks legit for the most part except the sticker on the inside behind the battery where it says g900f is in Chinese and I heard its not supposed to be.
And I teamviewed with gee , he made sure everything in Odin was set up correctly. It was, we thought maybe the file was corrupt so I download it again from another source and it didn't help.
Any ideas on how I can fix this assuming it is not. Fake?

What's custom recovery and can you tell me easiest and quickeat way to root, all I want to do is flash stock to unroot my phone
Mark, just download the latest software for your device (www.sammobile.com) and flash it through Odin. Once you have done that the device will be unrooted and completely stock.

Look at the pic I attached further up, my supersu is dodgy, so can I flash anything whilst it's like that?
You are going to flash a ROM via Odin, on your PC, what does dodgy SuperSU have anything do with that mate?
Mike, like devilsdouble said, you can flash via PC Odin as long as you are able to put the device into download mode, no matter what dodgy thingies are on it, since it will do a complete wipe. It will be stock, fresh and clean afterwards.
good luck

Good luck sounds like this isn't going to go too well... so basically plug phone into kies and back up, factory reset phone, download mode, go in odin, place stock in AP bit and go

Too bloody right, I'm stressed out my nut, I rooted it like a few weeks after I got my phone in like September, not knowing much (very stupid) and not knowing it voids warranty :/ my mam doesn't know, how can I tell her iv buggered my 600 pound phne, but it's not broke, I just keep thinking iv already broke it for some reason
You don't have to take the battery out. Just shut down the device completely, wait a few seconds, put it in download mode (volume down/menu/power buttons together), make sure Kies is not running (kill Kies back ground processes in task manager if neccessary) and fire up PC Odin, plug in your device, once connected direct to your stock rom in 'AP' and let it do it's thing.
After the 'OK' in Odin, your device will restart automatically, unplug it and run the set up.
NB....all your settings and personal stuff on internal memory will be wiped, so do back up before you start.
You did not break your phone, you just triggered an security flag that can tell you flashed custom software (root). On base of that samsung could deny warranty, but read around, there are lotsa cases samsung granted warranty with knox flag 0x1.
Cool, thanks, but sometimes you have to take the battery out on first boot up if in boot loop? And also I heard that you can sometimes lose you data from the data plan because the sim can't tell the rom where to get the data, or is that if it's pure stock rom rather than in my case an EE stock rom note 3
