I've poured through the threads and have not been able to find anyone who has given *explicit* instructions on how to root the Nexus 10 running 4.4.2 without unlocking the bootloader. I found methods for 4.3* and 4.2*, but nothing for 4.4.2 yet.
I'm sure I'm being an idiot and not digging deep enough, but in an effort to save myself some time I'm asking you good folks if you might help a desperate soul.
Thanks in advance.
Edited to add: I run Mac OS X and Ubuntu (13.04). I do not currently have access to a Windows License nor do I want to pay for one. This is relevant because I did come across Wugfresh's toolkit, which, while awesome looking, is Windows only.
If this is the only solution, for those who have experience, how does it run via Wine?
Why do you not want to unlock the bootloader?

Part because it isn't necessary for my purposes and part because I don't really want to deal with backing up, wiping and restoring (aka laziness). I just want SU access to my file system.
Admitting to laziness is not something you should be doing. Anyways, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003938

You're obviously a better technologist than I am... But are you a better philosopher?
Let's start with a question: why is admitting to laziness not something I should be doing?
And two more:
1. Would it have been better for me to bs a response to get what I wanted from you without the scolding?
2. Did I ask for your opinion on my values?
I'm not here to argue about philosophy, I said what I said based on the rules of the forums, I found that link in two searches, you've made your account to ask this one question, did the link help or is there still an issue?

The link did not help. I had found that thread before. Last page you can see that it is outdated beyond 4.3, and there's no indication that it is suitable for 4.4 let alone 4.4.2.
No I don't think there's a way. Ncry toolkit used to be able to but he stopped updating so it won't work in KitKat. You'll have to unlock I'd you want to do it unless there away I'm unaware of

I was fairly surprised today when I tried to search my conversation list in the stock messaging app for a particular person. I knew the thread was there but search returned zero results.
So Google the kings of search have made a messaging app that doesn't allow you to search by sender? Really? That's beyond useless.

EDIT: This flaming was not deserved... Sorry for my hasty reply from a hasty read...
Absolutely sure that you are joking... I haven't had any problems searching the threads any time on my Nexus 4 when it was on Stock ROM or CyanogenMod.
If you provide more details about the phone, ROM and other things and conclusive proof of this blame, it may be believed. Till then, this is an unnecessary thread :/

Sounds like the time for upgrading. PA 3.94 was just released so download it and flash away. It is 4.3 and runs great and also has Halo and Pie toolbars! Much better than AOSP 4.3! Check it out in the forums for directions.

As of this time, no custom kernels can be used unless you have never updated to the OTA MF3. If you are on a system without a blown qfuse, you can have a custom kernel on your stock ROM and it will stay with your other ROMs, if you are on OTA MF3, you cannot flash any kernels. Do not attempt to do so.
Also, at this time, only TW based ROMs will work with SS. CM, AOSP, AOKP, MIUI, etc will not work.

Very real. It isn't exactly what we wanted or need, but it will definitely keep development on the phone up until we find out a way to unlock the bootloaders and keep our community on the phone as well. I have seen too many people give up a great phone and take a huge downgrade because of not being able to install ROMs.

If it works as intended, it should be a very good alternative and still allow people to flash custom ROMs to their phones. Though, I wonder, how many ROMs can be placed on a phone with the storage size limitations. 3 slots will be available, but it will be shared space, so no necessarily 3 ROMs (or even 2) will fit on the phone. A lot of things will just have to be answered after the APK becomes available.
I also cringe at the thought of everyone trying to use this without learning and reading. Can you imagine all of the ,"Guys, I bricked my phone..." threads multiplied by X. There isn't enough room in the entirety of XDA to hold the ignorance.
Anyway, this should be interesting.
I read the 4 slots will be available. Either way, I am excited. No joke about that. Too any stupid people to handle...

Just got mine four days ago, sadly pre-loaded with MF3. Root has kept me satisfied, but looking forward to a safestrap option. Gotta agree though, the amount of idgets that will be fragging thier phone due to a deliberate lack of reading and research will be staggering. After all this time keeping up with my Nexus 7 and i727, nothing surprises me. I just look at it as electronic natural selection.
But back on topic, I also read 4 rom slots. But each has 3 data partition size options. Might have been where the confusion was.

I agree, well guess it's back to work on My Deadly Venom Rom for SG4!
Looks like Hash is getting some progress, but he's trying to get a splashscreen to show up solution so it boots with it always!
This is impressive! It is innovative and a great alternative to flashing ROM's. Like Loki it looks like you won't have to worry about unlocking the bootloader entirely because this will serve the same purpose. I'm also interested in the prospect of flashing multiple ROM drives. I love AOKP as much as I love Alpha ROM so I go back and forth but if I can flash both and have a simple selection on boot that would be insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hash is great at what he does. Just take a look at the Kindle fire 2 section. Everything there is because of his safe strap genius.

Sometimes when you flash ROMs the tablet gets confused as to how much memory is available I've heard of it plenty times when going back to stock usually a factory reset or if that doesn't work reflashing the ROM. You need to get the tablet to reevaluate how much storage it has. It currently thinks it a 16gb version.

Considering that this person only asked about how to free up space on his Nexus, I doubt that would have happened. Of course I would have offered direction to the proper forum if it was something critical. I didn't find it surprising at all that after a few members jumped in to help, your post had be the one letting him know that he shouldn't be in this thread, nevermind any advice on his issue. But it seems that every time I run into one of your posts, it is almost never helpful yet very terse and usually rude. Most of your answers are either about the member being in the wrong sub forum or that they didn't read the changelog. It's almost like spam being posted over and over.
