Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on a weird problem i'm noticing with my international LG G2 D802, running D80210b-HKG-XX.
I have on the desk next to me, signal shows 4 bars for strength, however once I hold the phone, it drops to no signal, without moving the phone more than a centimetre, tried rebooting, checking for software updates, changing to GSM only, no difference. Is this sounding like a faulty unit or is there something obvious i'm missing?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Yes unfortunately this phone suffers from death grip like my previous nexus 4 and galaxy nexus.
I have similar issues but not that exaggerated.

So would you think getting a cover for it would solve that then?

Hi Folks,
I've been enjoying my Nexus S but I've had a few problems so far and I wanted to see if they were singular problems or more widespread, so if you don't mind indulging me?
Signal - I've been having all manner of fluctuation with the signal. My Wife's Desire Z, which is also on Orange, is showing a far better reception in all areas, both indoors and out. I've even had a few total drop-outs, where I've had no signal at all, even though my old N900 and the Missus' phone are still showing at least 2 bars.
Wi-Fi - I've found the Wi-Fi signal to be awful. Again, other devices in the household are showing full bars yet the Nexus is showing 1. It's so bad that if I sit next to the router to get full signal, if I turn the device to face away I drop down to 1 or 2 bars. This isn't normal, surely?
Camera - Everything's blurry. Even the faintest hint of movement from a subject and the whole image is a mass of blur. Which is annoying to say the least.
App Issue - This is an extension of the signal problem really. When I go into a game, say, Angry Birds or Squibble, when I come out of the game I have no signal, and it doesn't come back for about 4-5 minutes.
What are your views?
Cheers and Merry Christmas,
I have none of the issues you seem to have. Might want to get it replaced

My only issue is my cell reception, but that's because T-Mobile sucks in my area.
Everything else is fine.
My WiFi signals do the same thing, but reception remains great. Are you actually losing connection speed or no? Because I checked and I'm not.
I don't have any of those issues. Only issue I have is that I still can't send picture messages to my friends on AT&T
Thanks for your responses people.
I don't think I'm losing speed with the wifi issue, l but I haven't checked if I'm honest (I've been up to my eyeballs in turkey ).

Wifi seems pretty strong here, no complaints at all. Have yet to put in a similar though so can't comment on cellular signal. Camera wise, I think its the norm... any movement with these sensors screws the picture totally. If you pics are blurred when the subject is stationary, worry.
I did a still pic side by side comparison and for some reason the nexus s was significantly more blurry than the nexus one, both shots same object sitting still. Prob just a software bug as the nexus s camera is very good in general.
For cellular signal, other people reported the same weak performance with the nexus s. My question is, do you actually compare the dBm or just the bars? Cause each company displays bars on a different range, so the only way really is to compare dBm vs dBm on each device.
There have been reports of weak signal and dropped data connection though.
past 2 days, I'm having an issue w/my nexus The screen won't tilt sideways when txt messaging, fb, watching youtube, etc.. The problem is temporary but a hindrance..also got a dead battery charger. I'm not the type to return stuff but might need to, I just love my nexus and the screen quality..hopefully the replacement won't have any screen issues like some ppl have complained.
I seem to have issues with my back button being no-where near as sensitive or responsive as the other buttons...anyone else?

I wondered about this too but I now think its just the way I'm hitting it as I'm nit used to it being where it is. Could that be it?
My wifi connection is poor as well depending on the type of router it seems

There are a slew of issues with Gingerbread, of which the most frustrating to me are: ringtone and other alarm tones will randomly change; new photographs will disappear in the gallery; sometimes typing is still laggy/unresponsive.
I reported the disappearing photos to Google here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419 If anyone else is having this issue, please visit the link and star it to bring more attention to it.
In general, I'm disappointed these bugs exist.
With regards to Wifi, i found that the router was issuing 4 ip addresses to my phone via DHCP, and my phone was not getting good data streams, it kept cutting out. So i went to the router and set up static DHCP based on its mac address (you can set this up via LAN services on your router) This fixed my wifi problem

I had the exact same issue with the back button. It was much less sensitive compared to the others and I had to click it quite hard to work. Its definitely a hardware mulfunction in a small percentage of phones. I ended up replacing the phone and now its fine.

Thanks for all the feedback people. It's been a great help. I've made a few changes so here's hoping I get some improvement.
If not it's going back to CPW!
Oh well, a day on and things still aren't improved.
Looks like its back to stock and back to the shop.
I'm wholly disappointed.
I've definitely noticed a decrease in service compared to my previous phones, especially the T-Mobile Galaxy SIII. I'm not sure if its poor Radio firmware, or the materials, but it's a noticeable drop. Using a signal booster in my house, I used to get full bars in my bathroom just two rooms away on the GSIII. The Nexus 4 barely gets 1.
Anyone else having issues, and does anyone know if newer radio firmware will be released soon?
feels the same for me, if not better than my galaxy nexus.
Yeah, my connection cuts out quite frequently. It's pretty annoying

I can't really compare how my reception is with my nexus since I am on a new provider, but I did notice something odd with how many bars I have. I assume there is some kind of battery saving function because when I am not really using data I will see 3G, as soon as I use data though it will switch to H. But what I noticed is when I am on 3G I will have like 2 bars service, but when the phone switches over to H I have full or close to it..
Maybe thats normal just thought it was odd?

Normal. Saves data. That's how T-mobile does it. Not sure about the bar part, unless it's switching towers for some reason? Ha.
Ordered my Nexus 4 on the 13th. Still waiting.
Yes it's noticeably worse than any other smartphone I've owned.

In my case, it's the opposite. It's the best smartphone in terms of service quality. maybe because I'm in Belgium !

Weren't you the one that dropped yours in the toilet? If so I don't think you qualify anymore for bug reports

I seem to be having the same reception problem the iPhone 4 had, namely that when I hold the phone, I lose reception.
Flat on desk: -82dBm
Fingers on either side of phone, still flat on desk: -99dBm.
Is anyone else getting the same phenomenon or is it just me? I wanna do a replacement if it's just me, but if it's something that everyone is experiencing, then I'll live with it.
I notice 2 things, 1) in general the reception is lower (4bars with my sensation/hd2 = 3bars on my n4) but I haven't done any real testing so it could be the bars are incorrect 2) big death grip problem, as soon as I grab the phone the reception drops and can cause a call to drop
For the most part I get good reception but yeah in certain parts of the house the phone is unusable.
I wonder if a simple bumper fix will do

Same, going from -77 to -85dBm

Keep in mind that bars mean nothing. Check the dBm / asu, the lower the better. Over ~110 things get dicey/unusable.
When I had my N4 on AT&T, it got better reception than my Capitvate and Atrix 2. I'm on T-Mobile now, and I'm still experimenting.

I have a tpu case on mine and it hasn't made a difference, actually the thing that works for me is switching to 2G + wifi when I'm home and of course 3G when out and about, I just wish nfc task launcher or tasker could access that "toggle" on the stock rom.
Hi
Different phone different reception patterns. No two phones will be exactly the same in terms of their signal strength, you might find an improvement compared to a previous phone, you might find it is worse, most will see no difference and it's very dependant on environment. I've seen no difference personally. Given some time and feedback from various carriers can improve things with radio updates, such as the phone being more or less aggressive in switching between cells, or protocol fixes that help prevent drop outs during higher error rates when the signal is lower and cleaner/quicker hand-off to adjacent cells.
It should be noted the main antenna is at the bottom of the phone like most mobiles these days, so holding it at the bottom cupped in the palm of your hand will see the signal reduce and battery consumption increase as it tries to transmit through flesh. There are diversity antennas towards the top of the phone, but these are for reception only and do not transmit.
A bumper is unlikely to help unless it was extremely large to make the distance between a hand and the antenna several inches! The iPhone was a different issue, it was because the antennas were not insulated and were being de-tuned and shorted by being touched when the phone was held.
Regards
Phil
Hi,
I'm loving my new nexus 4. But I have been getting very low signal bars for my mobile carrier. They are generally hovering around 1 or 2, especially when I'm indoors. I do not face any issue while using data. But then that is used when I'm outside. Overall, both network and wi-fi connectivity are lower than my earlier phone - the HTC Desire.
Has anyone of you faced a similar issue?
Thanks in advance.
I'm experiencing inconsistent signals. Sometimes I have full bars, sometimes none. Of course, this is at my house which is about a mile from the tower.

Same situation here. I think this affects everyone unless you are in a super steering signal area then it will penetrate your java easier.

Whatever the case is, i'm not liking it.
I didn't have these issues with either my iPhone nor my S2.
It'd be a shame to get rid of it after only 4 days.
Ok... feeling somewhat better to know this is not an issue faced by me alone.
I've noticed that signal bars go down to 1 or 2 when laying face up on my desk. As soon as I pick it up, it goes up to 4 bars.
The issue is I never faced this problem with my old HTC Desire!!
I hope its a radio problem which can be fixed by an update, and not a hardware issue.
Anyone else facing this problem?
Are you basing your signal quality by the representation of the bars as your signal compared to your previous phone?
Settings>about phone>status would probably a better place to get a reading to compare.

Hello guys. I got the new LG Nexus 4 white to see if the Grip of Death was fixed but it was not. But i did notice something and sorry if someone else found it long ago or something, i tried the search to no luck. The Grip of Death only affect my phone when i am using it on 3G not on 2G signal. The 3G signal is very poor outside because it even drops but with the 2G enable it is perfect 5 barst always with no drops at all. Has anyone found a way to solve this? The phone is awesome and i don't want to return it if i can fix this. I tried 2 black ones and they were like this and now this white one. I was thinking of returning it and get a Samsung Galaxy Nexus but the camera is a must for me and this one is better.
Again, anyone found a fix for this?
has anyone found or heard of a fix for the bad signal/reception on the note 3????
i have tried all the modems and reception is just not up to par .....my s5 just smokes it ...
went camping a couple weeks ago and i was the only one not having a signal
Try pulling the battery then the Sim card and leave out of the phone for 2 minutes. Then replace and reboot.
I found but can't remember where a tweak to adjust the radio sensitivities using the terminal program. My issues where solved

Yeah, I'm in pretty much the same boat. 4G is terrible with my note 3. Having to toggle airplane mode all the time to get service back is getting old. I flashed all the modems too and really can't tell the difference. My S4 is twice as fast and more reliable. Wish someone had a solution, because I'd hate to get rid of the note.
I'm in the same boat. Except mine was working great and then one day started working like crap. This is ridiculous. It also seems intermittent for me.

I went through all this when the GPS on my N3 begin to not lock quickly and be as accurate. I flashed, changed modems, tighten screws, etc. etc I have some long post on my N3 issue all steps i did. My N3 was never dropped has no cover not a scratch on it. After months of this, I called to get a replacement...rooted and put the exact same rom/radio back on...gps, signal all was spot on!
