Nimbuzz seems to work quite well for outgoing calls. Haven't tried incoming.
Tango works for incoming and outgoing but requires the Tango apps to be installed on the device being called. It's available for the Android, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Both are free, in the Android Market and work over 3G / WiFi.
delete this post pls. didnt read the topic well
Asia (Taiwan) purchased version has full phone features. Don't know if I need to use my N1 on a daily basis now. Tab does (ALMOST) everything.

'Call announcer' is nice.
Announcify is also nice. It's open source too (source on GitHub).
It can read out caller ID for phone calls, SMS/MMS, e-mail, etc…

Hi,
I need an app that does this:
When I answer the phone, it mutes the microphone, and plays a recorded file. When the file finishes, the microphone comes back on and I can begin the call.
Why?
I'm starting a business, and want to seem professional.
Legally speaking, I need to record my calls (business phone) and I'd like a way to notify my callers seamlessly.
Does an app like this exist? The auto answer systems dont seem to do it.
If not-I'm very interested if others are able to help me with it.
Thanks!

Hello.
Sorry to ask such a basic question but I'm without my pc for over a week now and can't find the answer by searching from my phone.
I need to extend the duration of the ring of an incoming call, before it diverts to voicemail as unanswered.
There used to be settings in the call menu but I can't seem to find them anymore. I'm on latest stock ROM, 4.3.
Please could anyone help?
Thank you.

What u can do is disable/modify ur voicemail. U can do that calling ur Company brand. In Spain u can dial ##002# and disable it automatically.

Did this recently and it works, but remember, the maximum is 30 seconds.

Thanks for your help. I want to keep voicemail though.
The next response will do the job, but I remember a setting in the menu from a previous revision of Android on my last phone. Wondered if we still had that.
Cheers.

Thank you, this will do me.
Shame that there doesn't seem to be a setting in the menu.
I ran CM on my last phone and I thought the menu had a setting to adjust the length of time.
Cheers

Try it, just change the voicemail number to yours and see what happens.

Hi all,
I love being able to add pauses to numbers, to enable me to redirect our support telephone at work from anywhere. But there is a snag. This is the number:
0211xxxxxxxxx,**700xxxxx#,#1

(x is a number, sorry, but wouldn't want anyone to use this)
This worked fine on my old Galaxy S2, with stock rom and with custom rom. On my Galaxy S5 it kind of works.
When I dial it from my contact list it does its thing and seems to stop at the second comma (this is only a guess...), after that the call stops and the redirection is not working.
If I do the same while on speaker, it works as expected.
Now I guess, that no one here will be able to solve my problem from this vague description, but you might have ideas to send me in the right direction. Could it be, that pauses on speaker differ from those not on speaker, for example in length?
Thank you for your ideas
Sven
I used to do the same for making Google voice calls for specific numbers, dial my gv # then pause, then 2, then pause, then dial then number I wanted to call, then press #.
I found on my S5 I had to do three comas before the 2 and two comas after it, or it would not work.
Also, try using the wait option in the "sym" menu

Hi finndo,
Thank you very much for your enlightening post! I was very surprised when I read about three commas, but I'm definitely going to try
The only thing I can't find is the 'sym' menu, where can I find that?
Thank you very much
Sven

EDIT: just getting rid of some erroneous words
On the dialer screen in a contact, when adding the phone number, should be in the bottom right, second one up.
