I'm starting to be alienated from Android - One (M7) General

I've been using Android since 2011 but I'm not happy with it. It always looked like laggy to me but I always didn't care.
Now I'm with HTC One and I'm not happy again. Apps, customization options, etc. are amazing but, even after reading tons of person's "This phone i very smooth, stable" I just can't find this phone smooth or stable nor Android OS. When I install a rom (with fully wipe of course), 1 or 2 day I satisfy with it, it starts to lag, and late responses etc.
I hate IOS either but still, after usign my brothers iphone for a minute, I hate from my phone.
But I don't want to leave Android. When I need to buy a new phone, I always select Android ones because I always believed that the next one will be much more smoother because of new processors etc. but even with the 2013's flagship phone, it hasn't happened yet. (at least for me)
What are yours comments??
Note: I didn't open this thread to blame on Android. I just wondered yours comments.

What rom are you using? And what apps? My HTC One is plenty smooth

That's how I was with my old phone. You just need to look up phone statistics and read reviews online. A good phone at a decent price. Don't buy a used or referbished. I agree though. Android isn't the best, but it does get me through my needs.

Firstly thank you for your answer.
I tried tons of roms including ARHD, Insertcoin, GPE Roms, CM. Now I'm with InsertCoin and ElementalX (tried stock kernel too) and after 2 days I got laggy again. I think its not important for me anymore because whenever I ask a question about smoothness I get answers like apps, roms and I try them. I don't install any apps more than 10. Apps I install are generic apps like Twiitter, WhatsApp, TitaniumBackup, Cache cleaner.

I got One after watching tons of reviews and its said that its a fast phone. I think I'm obsessed with this smoothness expectation from Android because I used Nexus 4 for 4 months too and I wasn't happy with that too. But still, N4 was much more stable than One for me.

I think I know what you're talking about. The phone seems perfectly fast after you install a new rom but then it slows down a lot over time. I have had the same issue with my One and my older S2. But now my phone seems to be really fast all the time with the 4.4.2 GPE. It's a stock ROM but I added some of my own stuff to it. I've been on the same rom for about 2 or 3 weeks now and it seems pretty smooth. Not even the UI stutters anymore. I also used App Ops to fix the battery drain issue with the Kit Kat update and now the phone is perfect. You should try a converting your phone to GPE and see how that is for you. I'm currently very happy with how my phone performs, it ranks high in benchmarks without any overclocking and gets much better battery life as well.

To be honest, your phone is probably laggy because you've rooted it and have flashed the software and firmware multiple times. Run a stock HTC One and it's buttery. Any time I root or jailbreak a phone, I regret it after a while because it seems to screw up the device. I had the 4 and 4S, both were jailbroken and were laggy as hell. My HTC One is pretty unresponsive and laggy, but my girlfriends HTC One is perfect. This phone will definitely be the last phone I ever root/jailbreak.

I have an HTC One
Have always wanted to be on Android, but never really got the "right" feeling for it... tried Samsung Galaxy Nexus when it came, later I tried Samsung Galaxy S3 4G. Thought that one would be a sure thing... seemed it was the android phone every one had.... but was really disappointed... most the poor body, and the sound?
Had an iPhone 5 at this point, got it from work as then hit the market. Had used ios devices before too. They where always smooth and worked.
I always did jailbreak my devices, so you could customize a lot.
But did a 3:rd try for Android, with the HTC ONE.
And this time I aint turning back, sure the build quality in apples products is hard to beat, and I like the screen size a bit more. Even if I have big hands I still feel most phones today are 2hands phones, more or less. Anyhow!
HTC ONE, is running really smooth, I have used a couple of roms, back with Viper at the moment with the ElementarX Kernel.
I never feel that my phone is slow or laggy. Using Nova Launcher.
Would like to run a stable CM 10.2 or 11 thou

I think I experienced this on stock ROM, when my phone was new you could say the smoothness gradually decreased as it filled up with rubbish I guess.
But on ARHD 40.3 I haven't had a problem. Been rocking this ROM since 40.3 was released and see no reason to upgrade or change. Happy where I am with performance and battery life.

While I feel that 4.4/KitKat's new ART runtime does help smooth things out compared to Dalvik, I agree that it's not quite on par with iOS. This is just in scrolling action, though. I feel the One is plenty fast when it comes to processing power and touch response time.

I think it all depends on what you are comparing this phone to. My previous phone came out awhile ago, so of course the HTC One feels very smooth for me.
For me, the smoothest rom is vanilla Android, namely GPE. AOSP roms (like CM) seem to stutter when scrolling, such as in the Settings menu.
If you are comparing Android to iOS, however, there was a post a couple of years ago stating that it is because of how Android renders the interface that makes it laggier than iOS. This is not the post itself, but it breaks it down:
http://www.redmondpie.com/heres-why-androids-ui-will-never-be-as-smooth-as-ios-or-windows-phone-7/

in my opinion,
Facebook or 3rd party integration is the problem; un-link facebook account or at least use your phone without internet connection (3G or wifi i mean) for testing.
i am a one user, with stock 4.3 and happy with it

New to droid X and Wanna root....HELP!

I have had probably 8-12 Android handsets. I recently switched to an iPhone from my EVO and I hated my iPhone. I wanted to go with something pretty similar to my EVO so I checked out the screen, specs, user reviews, etc. The Droid X sounded great, but since having it, it locks up, freezes, and Lags like a G1. This NOTHING like my EVO and is disappointing to say the least.
I'm really hoping that a custom ROM can speed up the interface and possibly help with the battery life. Any recommendations? I don't want to theme, or skin...no interest in changing the bootlogo, etc... I just want a nice and FAST phone.
I use a lot of apps...I DON'T let any apps refresh automatically though. I also use Launcher Pro. Thanks in advance.
(Please don't tell me to read the sticky. I have. I need some real life experienced reviews....maybe people who have had an EVO or who understand what I want. Thanks)

LMFAO, i wrote the sticky, which has instructions on how to root and while I havent had the time to update everything I did cover some ROMs which include what you have asked for, so not quite sure what else you could be looking for.... But if you really want an explanation:
Root the phone using z4root and then try out a ROM like Rubix Focused 2.0.1. Drod2169 built the ROM and I am currently using it. The interface is very quick and responsive. He has added in multiple governor settings for overclock which include a conservative governor to allow for better battery life. You can use apps like Droid Overclock (jrummy16) and setCPU to change these governor settings as well. Rubix does very well when overclocked if that is something you are interested in.
If you are looking for a ROM that still has some Blur components in it, then try out Apex 1.4.1 or Rubix 2.0 Blurry. Both are very responsive and have some of the blur that certain people out there are looking for. Last but not least, it seems a great majority of people like Liberty 1.5. I used the ROM for quite some time, and it is very responsive, but a lot of people seem to have issues with lag or reboots. I never had this issue, so I can't quite speak to that issue...
ROM's are really more of a matter of personal choice. Try out a few and see what you like.
As far as a comparison to the EVO... my roommate has one, and 2 of my other best friends have one. I have done MULTIPLE benchmarking tools on their phones to compare against my X (on multiple ROMs). None of their tests have beat mine... In my opinion, the only differences between the EVO and the X is this:
1) Evo has unlocked Bootloader to allow custom kernels so you can run ROMS like CynanogenMod (but given time, CVPCS is compiling CM for the X)
2) Evo has front facing camera for those who can't wait to talk to people via a webcam.
3) Evo has a slightly quicker GPU (graphics processing unit) than the X, but winds up limited to 30FPS for the most part. Some of the benchmarks I have seen on the X jump it up to 62FPS on tests I have run.
4) Evo runs sense from HTC. If you want a "Sense" feel... some have made themes that look just like Sense....but you said you don't want a theme.
That's about it...

The sticky is EPIC...honestly, it's just data and info. I guess I am looking more for opinions. Thank you for the insight.
I had an EVO and that thing had not once, ever, locked up or froze. 2nd day on my Droid X after a hard reset and it is SO laggy.
Unlock screen even lags to get to home. IDK.... I def don't want the "blurware", but the benchmarks on this phone are impressive. It's response and use have not been, in my opinion.
My wife has the Samsung Vibrant and the specs are amazing for that phone too, but NEVER have I seen a phone lock up and freeze so much. She gave her old G1 to my mom and it's like they run at about the same speed.
I'm real tech savy, a huge phone nerd, etc....I just really didn't like my iPhone. I use Apple products for everything else as I am an audio engineer by profession, but the iPhone was SO limited. I had to hack the crap out of it to get basic things that are available on freebie candybar phones.
One thing I have noticed is that it seems to build my photo cache REALLY slow. Now... I have 14 GBs of photo/video on their, but everytime I open a gallery it takes forever to load. It is getting better about this, slowly but surely....do you think my unit is defective, I am expecting too much, or the more I play with it and let it buld a good cache, etc, it will run better?
Thanks for responding, and THANK YOU for the sticky... If I decide to root that thing will be a lifesaver!

I think the type of sdcard you have also makes a difference. If you have a new class 6 card instead of what the phone comes with (I think it is like class 2 or 3) then the read/write speed should be a lot better. I have been using the latest Rubix ROM for about 2 weeks now, and I don't experience any lag or reboots/freezing. I really like this ROM, and actually talk to Drod2169 (the developer) a decent amount. I would take a look at Rubix or Fission 2.5.7 as these are both blur-free ROM's.
I am also a huge tech nerd/geek. I have tweaked the crap out of my X. I have probably tried every ROM/theme there is for this thing, and right now I'm sitting solid on Rubix. I also used Darkslide 4.2 Blurless for a while. It is a ROM built by BBCrackman and some others over at mydroidworld. I would suggest trying Darkslide out. It is pre-themed by the makers of the ROM but I think it has been the most reliable and snappy ROM I have used besides Rubix 2.0.
If you have questions, shoot them at me in here, or hit me up on gchat.

Transformed from a turd to a star.. GB to ICS

Ok so referring the note to a turd might be a bit over the top, but with my first day going from gingerbread to ics I have to voice my opinions.
When I first booted it up this morning I was underwhelmed. I'm coming from a desire z with asop ics which is a fantastic device, still smooth and great all round.
With GB everything was ugly to start off with, and the general performance felt a step down from my modded desire z (truly a credit to the developers). The browser was clunky (even in opera mobile) , the whites were more yellow than I expected, the was quite some lag waking it up and audio with headphones was terrible. I gave the desire z credit for its audio quality, I'm no audiophile but the difference was massive and it was actually painful to listen to the songs I used to love.
Now I'm using the latest stunner and the difference is unreal, it has literally transformed the phone. Everything is faster, this is how the note should have been in the first place. I was gutted with the audio performance on GB, even tweaking the equaliser in power amp couldn't get me to an acceptable quality. Well somehow the dev's have done it again. In ICS the clarity and range is even slightly better than on my desire z, something I never expected.
I tested the Note in store before I brought it and it was terrible on the stock rom there, who knows why people would buy it (I'm talking a 1 second delay between swiping and recognition) but I had faith in the developers and it's paid off.
This is mainly for those pondering on whether they should get the note because of initial bad reviews on the audio and using the stock rom. The audio and general performance is now fantastic on ICS.
I feel sorry for the many out there on the stock rom, here's to you developers.

Even though I agree that ICS on the Note is very neat and improves many aspects of the device, at least in my case Gingerbread was not that bad either!
Perhaps the only gripe was the small lag on wake, but other than that it was buttery-smooth out of the box and after the 380+ apps I usually end up installing.
I think it all comes down to what your carrier have done to it and what firmware version you got it with in the first place.
Cheers!
I wouldn't call The note a turd!! ,it is a bit slower than the unrealistically buttery smooth SGS2 but not by much.
and since the sgs2 was more smooth than an Iphone4 (my own experience) ,then I'd say that the note is doing just fine on GB.
although ,I'm really looking forward to trying ICS ,it's just the Idea of me flashing ICS bootloaders for a "beta" that's putting me off ,or have I got this part wrong ,and I don't need to change bootloaders?

I'd like to thank you for observing the advantages of ICS Stunner over the stock GB rom for such a long time, thats what i would like to call an an excellent base for judging a hole rom. this will make my decision much easier.
A turd really a bit too much but I do agree with OP, gingerbread Note left many things to be desired and I am on ICS stunner now, only thing I missed is full function S-pen.
I do hate touchwiz in guts. It does nothing but crap out our beautiful Note
If I had to choose , HTC has best software development for proprietary software user experience. While Samsung has the best specced hardware.
Note with pure aosp/aokp ICS is the best phone available today
Just my opinion.

I love ics but if gb could get tablet mode I could care less about ics.

You think the Note is a turd on GB?
Try coming from over a year with a Dell Streak stuck at 2.2.2
THAT was painful!
The note with GB 2.3.6, and Go Launcher EX, FLIES...at least it does for me.
Haha yep I had a Streak over the year and it was developer Dj_Steve that saved it for as long as it did. Even though the Note is better in most regards if got a soft spot for it as it was my first real awesome device. Why? Because it was 5 inches Never selling that, great memories.
There was only one reason that prevented me from getting the Note on release and that was touchwiz. But a couple of months ago I got one and enjoying it. Waiting patiently for ics but most likely once the spen apps work on osap ill move to that. I just love the experience of vanilla android that I had on my Streak.
Well stock GB left much to be desired but after the Devs did their magic it was great. Going to ICS and Stunner made my Note just the way I wanted it. But overall the phone was always a winner to me just for screen size alone lol but I do miss the S-pen apps.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
100% agreed. I didn't buy the Note because of Touchwiz or the S-Pen really...I bought it for its awesome screen. As an Android fanatic, knowing that I could change the firmware to whatever I wanted, made it an easy buy. Most "normal" people couldn't tell you what phone they have let alone what version of Android they have, if they even know it's an Android phone to begin with. But I feel even to people like this, Touchwiz is something of a joke. It's butt-assed ugly, laggy, and just a UI disaster in general. If I was stuck with what Samsung offered me, I wouldn't have ever bought the Note in the first place.

I spent half the day using apps I would normally use (xda, opera, youtube, bbc app etc) and every single one was faster on my desire z with a custom rom (no games however). For me it doesn't take days to work out how good a rom is, I've been a serial flasher for years, and I'm sure lots of others can work out how good a rom is in a few hours. Maybe the desire z is an unfair comparison because it's so good when modded? But this has twice the ram, probably nearly twice the cpu performance so I was expecting a great performance out of the box.
Maybe I got a dud stock rom? (la6) If I'd have heard the headset quality in the store I wouldn't have brought it, but it's massively improved in ICS which I haven't seen said here. Obviously this is all down to personal preference, but the distortion and lifeless high ends were very noticeable before.

This is slightly OT now, but I just want to leave a comment on that (of course, this is not going against your opinion smalgal ): I´m not really into TW as well, just because of the one fact that Ißm using my note on smaller DPI settings, where TW really doesn´t make sense anymore.
But beside that I want to get the facts straight (at least imao): TW is far from being laggy or a UI disaster. Quite the opposite: It seems like TouchWiz is by far the most stable launcher I ever came across. I have used a tons of devices now, including the mighty SGSII (which was the fastest till today). And even though Go Launcher Ex, Apex Launcher (on ICS) and a bunch of other good launchers are fast as well, none of them gives me the same stability and reliability like TouchWiz does.
Fastest wakeup from standby, absolutely NO launcher crash, absolutely NO launcher reload, nothing...just working.
Of course, there are some things they really should FINALLY include like compatibility with lower DPI settings, personalized sort order in the drawer etc.
But laggy? Absolutely not.
I myself like the TW,here is what I am gonna do:Wait for the official ICS to be released, and after that will get the best custom ROM based on it with least bloatware, and flash.,of course will make sure that I test all of them first and get whatever suits me the best.
Thats what I did with my HD2,and PDA2K long time ago,and was very happy,on my HD2 I have chosen one of the least known ROMs but very light CleaNex STD,and couldnt be happier.
And plaease dont come out and advice me that that kind of ICS ROM already exists for the Note, this is a personal approach and I am willing to wait.

And yet you bought one!
So maybe a lot of us are expecting great things from devs and the ICS stock build when it eventually arrives!
"but I do miss the s-pen apps".
Well why not just flash a rom that supports them, try it out, see how you go! If you don't like it, just go back to stunner.
I'm using midnote1.0. I believe you can use alba aswell. S-pen apps are working very well. For me, ICS is a massive improvement on GB. Everything is working instantly, and properly too. It really makes a difference.
GAH. Comparing stock anything to an XDA custom Rom isn't fair for a start. Put the latest RocketROM GB v23 up against Stunner and we'll see a contest.

TW is not that ugly , and it's definitely not laggy at all ,like you mentioned it's actually the smoothest launcher of them all.
But to be honest ,TW on the note is not as smooth as TW on the SGS2 ,actually the whole stock experience is a lot less refined than the SGS2 ,the launcher tends to reload on the note when a heavy app is loaded ,and that never ever faced me on the SGS2 before.
and since the note's hardware is on par with the S2 ,I'm actually very excited to what improvements ICS will bring along , in comparision I wasn't excited at all for the S2 ICS update cause it was perfect as it is.
but That's not to say the note is a turd to begin with ,far from it actually.
No, you don´t mess with the bootloader by installing ICS stunner. If you mess up your Note, you can allways flash a stock rom through PC Odin and start over.
This was a reply to post #4
Touchwiz is more than just a "launcher." It's a complete UI overlay...and it's ugly, and it's laggy. Maybe I didn't get the same phone everyone else did, no? Touchwiz launcher itself is clumsy and slow, and I personally think it's terrible. I don't know where you people getting off saying it's the best launcher you've ever used. Have you tried them all?

Just went from Nexus 4 to this...trouble finding a rom

Id say I'm looking for a jacked up stock rom. I feel its not that bad (stock), just strange random slowness sometimes and I'm guessing it could be from all the bloatware.

honestly ive never experienced any slowdowns at all with the stock LG roms
the only best thing to do is flash different roms till you find the one you like, im using Rayglobe Flex ROM at the moment, but each to their own liking
For D800 Clean Rom is still the bomb. Sounds like it's right up your alley.

It's not the bloat as debloated ROMs stay lagging after awhile too.
Before my phone took a dunk I was trying SlimKat and was very impressed with most of it, DPI was the only question.

try NRG rom
Try beanstalk very stable and fast with the park kernel
If you're going for LG roms, then Energy rom + dorimanx kernel
Or stockmod 1.0.6 + dorimanx kernel
Otherwise - mahdi rom // dirty unicorns from dr87
I've been trying to find something better then stock but unfortunately with no success. All custom roms are just not stable enough or are missing some stock features. The phone is great but android is not. I use to have HTC HD2 which was sluggish and laggy but someone told me that android need better hardware to run smoothly. G2 hardware is like a 'Ferrari' compare to the HTC HD2 and what? crappy android.
In the meantime I had Nokia 925 with Windows. OK, wasn't perfect for my job- very 'poor' market but windows is killing android.
I'm waiting for bigger iPhone then good bye android. I know Apple is locking system files but this phone just WORKS. This is the difference.
No more 'email app stopped working', phone ringing but nothing on the screen, browser can't load more data or other random funny bugs.

Rayglobe (non-flex edition) gives pretty good performance! Paired up with Dorimanx' kernel as it becomes a lot more stable in a fast pace seems like a good option. At least benchmark-wise, it's performing a lot better than stock. Also, the inherit sluggishness in stock rom is fixed.

Maybe, but I'm also IT engineer and I know what can be required from the phone. Sorry just not for me.
Well, computers aren't like smartphones. (behavior wise)
not sure what are you guys talking about here but my D801 running debloated and tweaked stock is absolutely "lag" and issues free. like many people here i'd be the first to complain about "laggy" Android and looking for rom and kernel alternatives but this phone's performance is outstanding. "user error" sounds about right.

Thanks for the replies, I too love the phone and to be honest I think its the best phone I've used to date. But isn't getting dev love like it should but hey if you wanna work on slack hardware, good on you devs.
Back to my OP, I had started downloading Aeonflexv3 last night?? I guess I'll root and try that. I really don't like how the stock rom sucks up most of the ram...its crazy.

It's not a user error! It was never and never will be!
I'm a longtime android user and you can see that in my signature!
However, I can admit at anytime that iOS is much better than android and that it actually works each time! It's more reliable!
Android is great when it works perfectly... However it's inconsistent most of the times!
Then you might consider if the reason is that ios apps are native and android runs dalvik vm ?
And, mostly it's user error, facebook killed the smartphone or else.
This can be true on all other forums, but on g2 thread, there are no lags.
+ + +
Sorry, but that's just not the case. Compared to my Nexus 5 the LG G2 is not as smooth, and frequently suffers from very short hiccups, followed by very fast performance.
I can only guess that this is the CPU power management kicking in, and ramping up when it needs to.
The Nexus 5 has a smaller battery, but even allowing for that, dies a hell of a lot quicker than the G2. Again, I guess that has something to do with LGs aggressive power management with the CPU on the G2.
It is a guess though!
Someone experiencing lag isn't suffering from 'user error'. It may not bother you, but it bothers me. The Nexus 5 is the closest in terms of performance to the iPhone I've ever used.
If I could get that performance on my G2 I'd be a happy bunny! (I haven't had chance to check out the various ROMs and kernels yet, but I will be doing so shortly.

I've checked few custom roms and just houstonn's PARANOIDANDROID works similar to ios- ART version, smooth, no lags etc.
It's almost enough stable for daily use but... I'm missing small pop-up incoming call window and LG UI( wifi storage etc, calendar which shows readable scheduled task when monthly view), new email as txt not html and main issue no remote control app (with ART).

Bloody G3 - I need to rant

I know this is going to sound very much like a first world problem, but this phone is frustratingly ****. It is easily the buggiest, slowest, most laggy phone I have ever had.
I have tried just about all the LG based ROMS, only to find that each one, although not buggy, are all laggy. The lag is so bad that it gives my old S2 on Gingerbread a run for its money. At least with Samsung phones, you could get rid of the lag by using a AOSP ROM and it would still be functional.
To solve the frustrating lag issue, I have installed a CM based ROM. At first I was delighted. The lag was gone. The phone was now comparable to my super fast Nexus 5. But after a few hours, I noticed the same bugs that every other CM based ROM user has. Today, I had to restart the phone six times FFS! It is a little more stable on 777 Kernel, but the same issues still persist.
Has anyone achieved bliss with this phone? Is there any ROMS, AOSP or LG based, that are fast, (Nexus 5 fast), and bug free?
Don't get me wrong, I love devs and the work they do. Without them, my old Galaxy phones, (S1, S2, S3, S4), would have been poo. My Nexus 5 would have been boring. (Stock android is meh). I just don't understand why this phone seems to have so many issues. Help me understand why it is so hard to develop a fast and reliable ROM for this phone. I know it isn't from a lack of trying. There is heaps of support and devs working on various ROMS in the G3 threads already and all of them are very talented.
Is it hardware based lag or is there something else inherently wrong with the phone?
Thanks for reading and offering any solutions. I don't want to list the ROMS I have tried, as it will seem like I am an ungrateful twat to those devs that worked so hard. Suffice to say, I have tried all the popular CM/AOSP and LG based ROMS.

Compared to what? Which other android phone have you used? In isolation, this phone is barely acceptable. Then, after you use a nexus, HTC or Sony phone, this phone is comparably slow. Almost unusable.
I can't bring myself to try stock again until someone who has other phones to base their claims on can confirm it is lag free.

Have you tried the usual tricks?
1. Swap out the stock launcher for something like Nova or Apex
2. Switch your keyboard to a 3rd party keyboard
While it does suffer from the random stutter, my phone is generally very zippy and does not lag.
Done all that. On stock based ROMS, stutter and lag is unbearable. My wife, nexus 5 user, even commented on how bad it is. I'm actually embarrassed to use the phone in front of people. I know it isn't a hardware issue, because AOSP ROMS are lag free, but not bug free.
Yeah, the phone is nowhere near as quick as a Nexus. The notification bar is also **** compared to stock Lollipop. There are a few tricks I use to improve performance on a stock rom:
1) Turn off throttling/thermal daemon via the service menu.
2) I use setCPU to set the phone to use the "performance" scheduler whenever the screen is on, locking it at 2.5Ghz.
Still isn't perfect, but it helps substantially. Obviously this is in addition to changing the launcher.
It's just one of those things. As you say, CM12 just isn't stable and worryingly seems to be going backwards, getting less and less stable with each passing nightly. The camera is also completely crap on AOSP roms. Nexus devices are great but the N5 is old and the N6 is too big and expensive. The S5 lags too, and while Note 4 is supposed to be good, but I simply won't believe that Touchwiz lag is gone without seeing it with my own eyes. Even if it has gone, Touchwiz remains the ugliest skin I've ever seen. Sony phones are nice, but they aren't packaged anywhere near as tightly as the G3, which is it's biggest strength: 22mm shorter than an iPhone 6+, with the same size screen. That's impressive. HTC's are just ridiculously large for a given screen size. The 1+1 is old now, and doesn't support all LTE bands used in the UK.
There is no perfect phone. Whichever you choose, there are compromises to be made. However IMHO the G3 strikes the best compromise available today, at least once running the latest Lollipop build and with the tweaks I mentioned above applied.
Had most 2014 flagships and G3 is deff fav so far, didnt have KK as updated to LP out the box had little lag after ota but common just needed a factory reset and all good since
Just a tip you can use on any android phone, go to settings, developer options, and set all the animations to 0.5x. This drastically reduces the time the animations take, and it gives a very snappy experience. It makes a LOT of difference, trust me.
No lag whatsoever here. Im running Chupachups newest rom with rin kernel. I've previously owned htc one, lg g2, xperia z1 and this phone definitely outperforms them all.
Ive owned the Xperia Z1, HTC One M7, and tbh id rate this better than both, i would like the battery life to be better my Z1 was amazing for that buh im custom stock rom and i dont get lag, everything is as it should be.

Because LL is still unstable and buggy? And so is any rom based on it?..
Stock firmware sucks because of LG's software - it's very badly written. Almost as bad as touchwiz is. (I used SGS3, trust me on that one...)
AOSP/CM based firmwares are better, but they still suffer due do LL newness. Wait till android 5.1, things may become better.
There is also a hardware issue: unbelievably bad heat management. They used 8974ac, but had not made any cooling system. No radiators, no heat spread throughout the case, and it's facing LCD panel - which is a very bad radiator. GG WP, throttling kick in, phone starts to lag, etc etc etc.
I think there may be problem with your unit... Try to send it back to get a replacement or have it serviced.

I agree that most of the stock LG-G3 roms, Lollipop/Kitkat, if not rooted and without any mods, LAG is unavoidable. The case is, some people can't root their phones and most of them will try searching why G3 stock rom is lagging... if I'm one of them and I happen to see this post, I would feel bad and feel stupid at the same time why I spend money buying a crappy phone.
Well anyways, try Crash Rom v2.0. It is a stock based ROM like chupachups. The animation is not as fluid as CM but I won't say that it's lagging. Compared to CM, I have not yet encountered any bugs and mostly the camera is better. If you're interested you can also downgrade the resolution to 1080p, this will enhance your g3, 3d and 2d graphics performance.
Hi im all so on lollipop 5.0 updated out of the box and its all good maybe some lag not much to notice. Still no root method yet for stock lollipop 5.0 and i dont want to downgrade to kk so il have patience and wait for new root method for me g3
Wow, I went from the nexus 5, to the htc m8, to the g3 all in year. My advice, play with this one to get the phone lag gone. This by far is the best. Like a previous person said, turn off animations and change the launcher.

Already done all that. Animations are turned off, launcher animations are set to lightning fast, CPU throttling is turned off. I've tried all the tricks in the book. Fact is, LG based software is crap, just like Samsung.
So far today, the lock-screen has only frozen on me four times, which is good.
I'm not sure if I'd rather put up with a laggy phone or a buggy phone.
My phone is currently on V20h. Apart from the occasional Home launcher crash, I've not had any lag that I notice of. The last time there was any lag was on V10i. My phone is rooted but is not running any mods.
Prior to this, I've had the Note 3 and Xperia S. Compared to the G3, I would say that the smoothness is at the very least, on par with the Note 3 running on stock.
I've seen people complaining about the G3 being laggy too. Is your phone by any chance the 2 GB RAM version?
My phone is the 2gb version, but I always have at least close to 300mb free. Sometimes I have over 1gb free. Not that it should matter though, as I have read on numerous places that the 3gb version lags too, and that both phones are very close on performance. The extra 1gb of RAM is negligible.
Just flashing Crash ROM now. I think I'm going to regret it though, as I much prefer the look of AOSP anyway.
Ah crap. Just as I flash the ROM, I read that the dev is stopping support for our device. Based on the comments, it looks like a promising ROM.

Lessons learned from the XSP

I have been wanting to post this for a long time..
Terrific hardware and benchmarks alone don't make a terrific phone - one of the key takeaways for me from my exp with XSP.
Good optimised software by the OEM matters a lot to the user experience. I am 100% sure that with support from Sony for at least until the release of Kitkat could have made a huge difference now.
I rooted and flashed a new ROM on my phone approx. 6 months after I bought it. I was frustrated of the Stock ROM with so much lag and bugs after prolonged use.
But after using custom ROMs for almost one and half years, I miss the Sony UI. Every custom ROM (except for few) have the same old bland interface. I got sick of it to be honest, even though custom ROMs have better performance.
Next is the camera performance - another let down for me. Same goes to the phone speaker.
Well, what are your thoughts on the XSP before you go and buy another phone?

This Xperia SP has carved a wondeful meaning into my life.
All I can say is that no matter how hard I try there will be no phone that can replace my XSP.
The notification bar is the best aspect of XSP which cannot be found on new devices (S6 edge tried to replicate but I guess failed miserably). I love to color it according to the apps I use and while there are many phones with RGB Notification LED, none shines brighter than XSP
The roms have been hiccups. There were some that I liked but got updated to a point they broke (freezes and lags - staring at you Lollipop)
In terms of games I found many that work flawless on it and some that required more RAM and hence stutter a little but with so much old hardware that is to be expected.
The disappointment for me has been camera... I don't think it is possible for any other phone to tint pictures so yellow. But since I usually don't take pictures all that much it never bothered me much.
Lastly XSP taught me to buy a Z-Series if you plan to stick with Sony (which I do even after they abandoned us - yes yes I still haven't forgotten the betrayal of no 4.4 update, don't say you all have)
Yeah true, those darned Sony guys, this phone has equal hardware to the first Z ,but still they didn't consider us because we paid less

SP was a good phone

just because sony mobile suck
The hardware is not bad, screen could be a bit better but otherwise it's OK. The (official) software on the other hand is the biggest piece of **** I have ever seen/used in my life. Although the fact that it looks like crap could be opinion-based, the fact that it runs absolutely horrible and has memory leaks and lags throughout is seen by all of us. Keep in mind as a tech guy I could solve this by flashing a ROM and kernel (even so this stuff is still hella confusing and requires a lot of patience), but remember that the idea of a phone being made is so eveyone could use it without having to do that. I can't even begin to imagine what the average user thinks of this phone. Basically it's phones like this that give Android a bad name and make people want to stick to iPhones. I was really surprised to see everyone having such a positive opinion about the Xperia SP on its forums; you guys seem to love it unconditionally.
A good phone. Think I got it free (or was it SGD30?) as an upgrade
My use is now limited to phone calls, whatsapp, sms, and the occasional surfing. Heck, even an old Sony Ericsson is good enough for my purpose
Anyway, time to say goodbye to Sony...and welcome a Xiaomi Mi 4i (tomorrow)

I have my sp for a bit over a year and a half now. The phone is absolutely not godlike, but over that past 1,5 year I've loved it. It covers my needs and I think it will keep doing so for a long time, thus I have no reason to go and buy another daily driver. But, I'll agree for sure with you on the "I miss the stock ui" part. I'm running a custom rom and a custom kernel for around 4 months (was sick of stock 4.3's random freezes, and I had customized the rom in some ways [kernel, unbloat and such stuff]). While the performance is heaps better, I miss the ui I experienced when I first powered on the phone, so that's why I'm going back to stock 4.1.2 (with another kernel and some mods of course - after all, this is xda god damn it) just to revive some of that......."nostalgia". Other than that, I wouldn't say it's a terrible phone at all. If not anything, it's one of the greatest devices I've used, and I'm happy I own and use one as a daily driver. I'll keep using it this way until it won't be able to cover my needs.

It took me into a new dimension of android rooting and flashing roms, kernels , bootloader
It has embraced me many type of error while flashing or crashing.
Unfortunately, My Xperia SP squeeze out its last battery percentage and went away....
So, My xperia sp's Battery is now dead and is sealed,
A New Monster arrived for me : Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Its my current device and a new replacement for my Xperia SP

Good phone but very laggy and stuttering.
I dont blame the outdate ROM but I blame the bloatwares that cant be removed.
I only use my phone for 5 apps no games, and it lags
I used to like Sony but I believe it was taken over by western stocks.

I used to switch back to .254 a few times for it is faster than the newer ones. But after a while, it also gaining stuttering.
I recommend you use the pure stock version 3. which remove wares

I've had the Xperia SP for almost a year now, and I'll admit it has been one of the worst devices I've ever owned followed by my old Atrix 4G which lacked support. The touch problems, lags of the xperia. I will miss the led notifications and yes some bloat ware which was actually useful on the stock roms. Stamina, Small Apps, Camera App, Bravia Engine lol. The hardware is great and the phone feels solid but Sony just had to abandon it after jelly bean which really ticked me off. What i have learnt now is before purchasing a new phone go on the threads read about it's problems. Before I got this phone I didn't know about it's issues until I had it, but obviously it was too late. Well this is my last year with this device and surely if it wasn't for all the devs working so hard to bring the latest firmware Android 5.0 - 6.0 it would've been frustrating oh yah and the multitasking does suck though
Well the Xperia SP is a great device, awesome features and so but software is rubbish. And on top of that... the Xperia SP community is rubbish too! Mean users and developers. The lack of respect towards each other. I am happy with my S6 And I do know I wont be getting a Sony phone anytime soon
