Which implementation for "Flash ClockworkModRecovery" should I use with rooted GB 2.3.5, Milestone X, C-Spire (Cellular South)?
Droid X or Droid 2?
Thanks.
pretty sure that it is droid 2 droid x
Nothing (none of the options w/ uninstall and wiping of the Clockwork Folder) worked, then I got "DROID X Bootstrapper" from a MegaDownload or something similar
and
made my first backup. Great!
Now to tackle Custom ROMS and pitfalls. I still need to efficiently get to SBF my phone back to FROYO for security.
Definitely DROID X Bootstrapper from market......worth the money impo..
on gingerbread with the x... droid 2 bootstrap actually works better... so when ya buy one to support the dev... get droid 2 bootstrap... so you can keep usb debugging enabled...
Good to know Nemo.... Wait a minute, hell, I'm using debugging right now with the first 1.....???? What's up with that?

check the link in my signature below. there is a link to Doomlord's zergrush root.
I tried the zergrush root but my phone would not down load. It kept saying that the down load was unsuccessful or that it failed. My phone was rooted before but when I did the update it messed up. Help. Im new to all this and still trying to learn.
That isn't an application you use on your phone...
And .zips won't download with the stock browser, is your problem.
Download it to your PC and run it with your phone plugged in.

Hey all,
Just got a Milestone X for Christmas from the folks, and I have a few questions about it.
Number one, would I be able to flash the latest (1/10/21) MIUI build without messing up my baseband? I OTA'd with nTelos a few days ago, and now I'm on 2.3.5, and the radio's baseband is BP_C_02.12.00R. I wasn't sure if I could reflash with this rom and keep all my baseband information because it's meant for VZ.
Number two, I am familiar with SBFing, but I am kind of worried about trying to flash MIUI, because I have already OTA'd to 2.3.5, and the SBF I have is for 2.2.1, so I was wondering if it was safe to SBF back to 2.2.1 if I messed up with MIUI. I haven't been able to find a straight answer to either, and any help is appreciated!
You CANNOT sbf back to 2.2.1 after the 2.3.5 OTA update, it will brick your phone, and nTelos can't fix it. Until the 2.3.5 sbf comes out, you are stuck. The 2.3.5 update apparently changes the bootloader keys. My advice, if you want to use custom ROMS, take the X back and get a phone without the encrypted bootloader.
I'm not allowing the updates on my Xs. I am running the 2.2.1 with Liberty ROM.
Verizon SBFs will not help either they will brick your 2.3.5 phone also.
Hello. I am in the same boat. I was instructed to install MIUI 1.12.9. Is there a safe MIUI build to install on my GB 2.3.5 version .605 phone?
Milestone X
Has anyone been able to load a successful build on this phone? I have the same phone from ntelos....
I'm sure you've probably seen this but the ntelos sbf for gingerbread has been released. You can find the link on droid x forums .com. (I can't post links yet cause I'm a noob.)
I'm on miui now so it's safe for ntelos.
what process did you follow to get the miui on your phone? I had to sbf mine the last time. I was trying to find out what version of miui as well...
Ok sorry for the delayed response. If you go to the miui.us forums and go to droid x (i still can't post links) there are two main builds available 2012-1-8 and 1.12.16. Those are the latest right now. I've tried both of them and right now I'm on 1.12.16. I think 2012-1-8 is supposed to be more "stable" but I haven't really noticed much of a difference.
To flash them you'd follow the regular instructions for a clean rom flash. I'd recommend sbf. Boot into recovery, do a reset, wipe cash and dalvik. And lastly install the file from zip.
Oh and for other roms I've also tried liquid Gingerbread which you can find on liquidsmoothroms .com. The latest build (3.2 i think) will work for your device as well. I like miui better but liquid gingerbread is closer to the stock android but without motoblur.

and let me know if you need more detailed instructions. I don't know how much you already know. I hate those people who post vague instructions and assume everyone will follow them.
thanks!!
if you could please post more detailed instructions, I tried to follow the others but i either ended up with the wrong rom, or it was corrupted.. I did manage to sbf the phone back, but again if you could please post how you did your load of custom rom. If you want to email me instead of having to post links here you can do that [email protected] thanks!!
I sent you a doc with more detailed instructions and links!!!

That method worked great, but it doesn't seem to have recovery installed. Is that done separately? I found that you are supposed to get to recovery by following these instructions but I am still stuck on the triangle:
1. Turn Droid 2 Off
2. Press 'X' on the physical keyboard and then Press and HOLD Power button until the Exclamation Point/Android picture shows(after motorola symbol).
3. To access menu options Press the "Search" button depicted by the Magnifying glass on the Keyboard and the menu items will show up.
4. Browse options with the Volume Up and Volume Down keys and select option with the Camera button all on side.
5. Select first option of "Reboot phone" or risk messing up your brand new Droid 2!

So I just flashed CM4DX by Pooka. I installed Swype from the market, my preferred keyboard, and I'm able to get it to use this by first going to Settings > Language & Keyboard, then checking the box to enable "Swype + Dragon". Then I press and hold in a text field which pops up the "Input Method", and there I choose Swype as the default keyboard. The problem is that once I reboot the phone it resets this- every time.
Is this a common problem? Is there a fix or workaround? Thanks.
For reference, here was my install method.
SBF'd to .340
Rooted using Z4Root, and flashed this .15p Radio from Goose (extracted from .621 build) for improved WiFi/3G signal. This automatically upgraded me to .605 build
Bootstrapped, then from CWM Recovery I cleared Data/Cache/Dalvik, then flashed Pooka's CM4DX ROM (the latest 2012-03-11 version).
op says a gingerbread kernel is needed
use 605 sbf

I'm on Gingerbread. Pooka's CM4DX requires either the .602/.605 builds to flash:

Yes, it does, though it appears that he integrated the .605 update into the zip after creating the thread, and included that information in an edit (I can understand how you got confused there since the listed steps make it appear as though you have to install .605 separately):
Goose306 said:
Extracted from .621 SBF file. Credit goes to ky41083 @Rootz for the extration, Team Black Hat for original AIO. This file will need to be flashed from Froyo and installed standard like a ROM. It will put on the radio and put you back to .605 all-in-one.
To install:
Option 1:
SBF to Froyo (.340)
Root using z4root
Install CWM
Put zip on SDCard
Install .605 AIO zip (do the usual ROM wipes (data, cache, dalvik)
Boot into ROM straight (no other flashes) - bootstrap, restore nandroid, etc...
????
Profit!
In the future if you need to SBF use the Linux method as well. That way you can keep the radio (usually there is no reason to re-write the radio unless you were screwing with NV items)

It would be impossible to flash Pooka's CM4DX build with the .340 build. As the OP for his ROM at Rootzwiki specifies, it only works on .596/.602/.605 with the latter two preferred. Nevertheless, I should have just specified that I double-checked to ensure that it was a .605 before installing Pooka's CM4DX.
The problem is not the build. I was hoping to preclude the need for going over that with my install steps, but it appears I only murked the water, LOL. Nevertheless, here is the information for reference:
Android Version: 2.3.7
Kernel Version: [email protected] #1
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-DROIDX-KANG
Build Number: GRH78C+JBMv19f (note: I tried it both with and without this Jakesbitesmod version installed; problem persists either way)
SOLVED!
I was messing around in ES File Manager when I noticed that Swype was the only app installed to the SD Card, and all the other apps were installed to my Phone. When I'd set up all my basic UI after flashing CM4DX (dock, status bar, etc.) I'd changed the install directory in the Cyanogenmod settings from "Default" or "Internal"- whichever it was- to "External". For some reason, on this kernel, that's a problem. So I moved it to the internal memory, and now it no longer resets on boot.

FYI for the future for anyone else in this thread - m.ksy's RSD Lite 15p upgrade is by far the easiest way to go if you are still a holdout from .621.
Its located here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/2834-radios-all-baseband-updaters/page__st__140#entry833317
I need to update that thread @ DXF - I've had a GS3 since release day and haven't been around these areas much as I don't have a reason to. I will update the thread @ DXF momentarily. The 15p AIO works (I used it on multiple DXs myself) but it could sometimes throw spasms for other people. (Not sure if it was related to user error or an issue with the AIO, as I never experience any myself - but flashing from Froyo to GB in Recovery is a bit sketch)
I'm sure m.ksy's RSD Lite 15p upgrade is fine, but 621 is easily rootable with Framaroot.

This is true - I just meant for someone who didn't want to go to .621 for whatever reason.
I am trying to root this phone for a friend. I have tried Motorola One Click and Pete's Motorola Root Tools and both didn't work. I also tried the GingerBreak app and it didnt work either. Any help would be appreciated. Here are the phone's specs (and I am putting it all because I dont know what is and what isn't pertinent info):
System Version: 45.621.10.MB810.Verizon.en.US
Model number: DROIDX
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: BP_C_01.09.15P
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-g3e80c7a [email protected] #1
Build number 4.5.1_57_DX9-10
ERI version: 5
PRL version: 53342
And I am sorry in advance if I am just stupid with any of this. I do have experience rooting because I have rooted the original Droid.

awesome, this worked within a few seconds
now i am trying to update it to ice cream sandwich, i have searched Google and attempted a few different ones, and every time it goes to Verify update package, it fails and says failed to verify whole-file signature and signature verification failed, then installation aborted.
http://www.android.gs/update-motorola-droid-x2-cm9/
those are the steps and files i am taking, except the step to get it into bootloader is actually needing to be getting into recovery, bootloader is wanting me to connect by USB and the steps dont actually give an instruction on what to do through USB to flash anything
so i get into Android system recovery
i wipe data/factory reset
i then wipe cache partition
then apply update from sdcard, then choose the one downloaded from above site, and i get the above error message, this is actually farthest ive got than the other ones ive tried, for example, i tried the Bootstrap Recovery and it never did anything, it rebooted to the Motorola logo and nothing ever happened

I have a Droid X on 2.3.3/4.5.602 that I am rooting. I was going to upgrade first to 2.3.4/4.5.621 but I read your warning "*****Do not use the 4.5.621 SBF file unless you took the OTA update, you won't be able to use any other SBF after updating or flashing to .621*****"
1. Is this warning still current? ie. I will not be able to downgrade to 2.3.3. tomorrow.
2. Should I care? ie 2.3.4/4.5.621 is a good upgrade, easily rooted, so I have no need to look back or all newer stable ROMs are based on 621.
3. If you don't recommend SBF to 621, is there a way to get the OTA is nolonger on Verizon?
4. Should I at least upgrade to 2.3.3/605
I have failed to root using Framaroot 1.9.1 on 2.3.3/602. Is Framaroot not for this version?

OTA update can be done manually, but they are incremental, you will have to install 605 ota then 621 ota, but once on 621 you still can not downgrade
There are links to OTA files in my list, but I recommend using SBFs.
