Hello Xda, I guess this is my introductory thread/help me thread. I'm new to XDA as in registering but not new with lurking in it's shadows!
My issue is, applications such as YouTube are getting an error, shown in the photo attached. Google Playstore was getting the same issue until I reset the application preferences. Now I can access facebook but haven't tried any other applications. The device is not rooted, keep that in mind! Any one have an idea what route to take?
Clear the cache / data of the app and reboot. If that's no good, there's the old fashioned factory restore or re flash stock rom

I'll give it a whirl Radicalisto!
Edited: Did not work and I have done a factory restore. Haven't tried reflashing. I'm connected to wifi, not a mobile network just yet. Why this is a little confusing.

Don't have a factory restore? - Settings > general > backup and reset > reset data..
OR
Go into recovery, Hold Volume up, Power button and Home button, boot into recovery and choose factory reset.

That was a typo on my part. I've done a factory restore but still throwing the error. It'll pop up a little shield notification, like it's being blocked. Now I'm not in the countries origin this phone was bought in. I have yet to try the mobile data but it's suppose to be unlocked. Correct me if I'm wrong.. will a factory reset in recovery mode, screw up that option.
Man, sure do miss my sweet ole girl, S III! #headache!

Ok, so you'll need to flash your county stock rom via ODIN... Now since you have got the phone from another country, are you aware of region lock? and if so has it been deactivated? if not, then you may run into issues, Chainfire's region away tool here on xda *might* work but not a 100% guarantee.
But I'd say, a Stock flash will more than likely fix your error in all honesty -- As for the shield notification, that's KNOX being a pain in the... An update to the latest FW usually fixes that..

As for region lock, yes I'm aware of it. I already have my mobile sim inserted in the phone, just not activated but the phone does register the carrier's name in the lock screen. From that acknlowledgement, it doesn't seem to be locked which is suppose to be unlocked. Confirmed from the retailer but anyone can tell you what you want to hear.
I'm thinking it's KNOX being a little prick. Have security on the normal level but I'll see what unticking verify apps will do.

OK so you have a Czech/Unbranded with Czech CSC International version correct?
This is the lastest update for your model/device
Model: SM-N9005
Country: Czech Republic
Version: Android 4.3
Changelist: 2019540
Build date: Wed, 30 Oct 2013 07:58:12 +0000
Product Code: ETL
PDA: N9005XXUDMJ7
CSC: N9005ETLDML1
MODEM: N9005XXUDMJ7
DOWNLOAD: _---- You need to register @ sammobile.com to download this update :good:
Now, when you update, it will update your bootloader, so if you choose to root you will have to trip KNOX, now the firmware you are currently on you can use the URDLV method to root and keep KNOX preserved, but I don't know about that as I tripped my KNOX right away, you'd have to read the URDLV thread pal.
If you choose not to root or aren't fussed about root, then update away and it'll resolve any KNOX issues and *should* fix your app issue also

That would be it! As for rooting, I'm not too sure. I had my previous phone rooted and didn't mind it one bit! I'll take a look into URDLV threads, but now do you suggest. I trip KNOX or try and preserve it. Seems it's just an anti-virus, overprotected! I'm too 100% sure if I'll keep the phone although because I'm having an issue with Straight talk and data not wanting to work. I'm not worried about the LTE fact I can't get with this model because of the baselines. Does that also include the 4G in the restriction or just strictly LTE?!
Now this is VERY important... Go to security and UNTICK reactivation Lock before flashing anything.... Especially if you decide to root...

If I'm putting two and two together. That's for sure a vital tip! Thanks!
I know I asked the question above but anyone able to answer the possible issue. I know I can't get LTE because its N9005 doesn't have the base sets At&t accepts but does that include At&t 4G also?

Is it because what's weird is. I've had straight talk since the S2 Skyrocket (LTE compatible) and it's never triggered. Only 4G, and as well for my S3, never triggered. Only 4G. Why I guess, I asked a stupid question. Therefore my N9005 is just a hulk of plastic, lol? >.< Shhitt!

hehe, well I think it's how different networks display it on the device, not got 4G here yet... Well I have a 4G sim card, just no network til this month sometime so can't comment 100% on it. - yeah you need the N900(A) for ATT I think.

4G is just a data milker anyway, I think 3G is fine for most people, I average about 1.5GB per month use on my data I think... I dread to think what it'd be on 4G - You could always sell the N9005 and get an N900 lol

With having Straight talk. Data didn't seem to be an issue with me but when you get a second. Check out this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531390 From what I'm reading, it can work with 4G from At&t but not LTE or is that based specifically on the the PINK version of N9005! Or maybe it's just me reading it wrong and delusional in hoping I can find a way to flash At&t LTE modem since the N9005 had the hardware for it! Not too worried about the LTE but would feel better having the 4G for when I go into the cities. I could sell it but with being in the US and a lot of users are going to want the 4G/LTE feature. Probably be a pain as well rather not have to deal with shipping overseas because it'll take entirely way to long for that item to deliver. I guess I can poke around in several marketplaces and see what's the market for these versions over here.

I just wanted to make this perfectly clear: DO NOT use this kernel on a Verizon variant (almost impossible as it hasn't been officially released). This kernel is not signed and the bootloader will error out. You'll then be soft bricked until you flash a signed kernel in Odin.
Visual proof...first the signed unsecure kernel that allowed first root on the VZN SGS4 (notice the signature at the bottom):

Again, please folks...do NOT flash this if you don't have an unlocked bootloader and an original kernel backup. Things could get REAL UGLY, REAL FAST.

Since it's now VERY obvious you are not the author of this kernel, I will try to explain what I think happened. The person that created this kernel probably (and I say probably because I'm not going to waste the time and bandwidth to download 1.9GB of software I don't need) downloaded the leaked firmware and extracted the boot.img. He then made two minor adjustments that gave root access and repackaged the kernel. This probably took all of two minutes. I haven't looked at the original boot.img, but there's a 99% chance this gives root on a N9005.
There's a 50/50 chance it will work on any other N3 variant that doesn't have a locked bootloader. It depends entirely on how closely the keys match. In the US, this means Sprint, T-mobile, and sometimes AT&T. The S4's bootloader was locked by AT&T and I'm expecting the N3's to be as well. Verizon is almost always locked unless you buy a developer edition phone. A locked bootloader will fail to boot an unsigned kernel and the phone will be soft bricked.
This is one of the reasons unlocking a bootloader is so important to people that enjoy customizing their Android phones. It allows for custom recovery installation, custom kernel (which can then be unsigned), and custom ROM installation. Root can still be achieved with a locked bootloader, but it is much more difficult.

Does the galaxy3root dot com method work?
Terrified of trying this for fear that it will brick my device.
I'm trying to figure out why anyone would try this, when Chainfire has done his thing, is this to try and avoid the counters being triggered or something?

Still looking. Doesn't look like many Korean residents use this forum.
I am trying to install a 4.4.2 rom. It (phoenix) is on, but the baseband of my I9505 is still stuck at Mk2.
I followed steps to flash a new modem, but it reports failed every time.
I downloaded a stock 4.4.2 rom. It failed to install in odin. I was able to get back in recovery to use my nandroid, but I would really like to get this critter working with a 4.4.2 rom.
Is there a way to just update the bootloader?
Is there any drawback to being on the 4.4.2 BL instead of the 4.3 one I am on now?
Should I have a custom kernel that relaxes permissions or something?
Thanks tons.
Mike

That file you are trying to flash is only for the old bootloader. I think you have the new bootlader so that file is not for you. If you want to update your modem, then pick a newer modem.

I thought the NC9 designation meant it was the right modem. Is there another version of that file that is for the new bootloader? I also believe I am on the new boot loader. I got the lovely knox 0x1 warranty result to go with it...
I will take a gander at the modem section again to see if I can find the ones that work with the new bootloader.
Went to sammobile to try to get an updated firmware for the device. I bought my USCC i9505 on ebay, for use in the us, but on sammobile I cannot choose USA as a place to check the firmware from. Is it only a international device? Is there a USCellular stock 4.4.2 I should be looking for? Thanks.

ps why do you want to update the modem? If everything works, then it's ok. It's not that a newer modem is always better.

Thanks for the reply, I will give that thread a look. My problem is that when I move to a 4.4.2 rom I am not able to send text messages. I noticed after a few days of fighting with it that the rom I had was NB9 and the baseband of my phone was MK2.
I was under the belief that if I got my baseband to be NB9 I should have everything back in order.

I don't think its a problem with the modem. I had a similair problem once and that was caused by an incorrect "smsc number". That number is needed for sending sms. You can receive right?
I don't know how you can change it with the default sms app, but with an app like Go SMS Pro you can enter it manually.
Just google for: smsc number [insert provider here] see if that works.

I could not get into my S3's SMSC settings, but my two older phones appeared to be blank. Neither would give me anything when I hit refresh either.
I decided that since PagePlus uses Verizon that their SMSC was probably the one I needed, but that did not solve it either.
At the moment I am restoring my 4.3 stock rom. It works, so I will see if I can check the SMSC in there. Does it make any sense that I can restore a rom and have it work, yet when I put a new rom on it does not? I guess I did find several post detailing similar results back when IC was new. Maybe I am wrong about the page plus SMSC and that is my issue.
Thanks for the time and effort!
Mike
It could be a problem of the specific rom. Did you try other roms?
Does the stock rom flashing of 4.4.2 work now? If not, make sure you use the backport usb, not the front ones.

It is driving me batty that I cannot install a bloat free rom and have texting working... I think I am going to have to devote some energy into learning how to debloat this rom. I have Titanium Pro, so I think it is just a matter of taking some time.
Thanks tons for your help.

It could be a problem of the specific rom. Did you try other roms?
Does the stock rom flashing of 4.4.2 work now? If not, make sure you use the backport usb, not the front ones.

I have tried 2 or 3 different roms. Phoenix lately and Golden eye before that.
I downloaded a stock 4.4.2, but it stuck on the Samsung screen. Scared me that I had her locked up tight... I had an issue yesterday with it not coming back from a nandroid too... I had a copy on my external card though and recovered from there as well.
I am not sure if I had a USCC stock 4.4.2 when I was doing that odin attempt. I asked on a teamuscellar page if there is a stock 4.4.2 for the s4 yet, but had not seen a reply yet.
Thanks for the tip on the back port. I will give that a go when I try again. My previous message said I was bailing.. but I am really not good at giving up. =) Thanks again!

Do you have this model?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272533
Because I see that U.S. Cellular has the Mk2 modem you talk about. Maybe you have the Galaxy S 4 (SCH-R970)? Could that be possible. Maybe that is why everything fails and why you can't text.

Yes, that is it. I am not sure how I started thinking I had the I9505 instead of the R970. I must have seen a post somewhere that linked them. I wonder how similar the hardware is. The roms I tried were sweet, just no texting.
Thanks so much for helping me solve this!

I think this [ link ]is the stock image for the 970 that I tried in Odin and had it stay on the Samsung screen. I will download again, check the md5, and give it another go from a back port usb.
I did notice that the post you led me to was in the S4 i9500, I9505, etc forum. Is it possible my R970 is also a i9505?
Thanks,
Mike
I don't think you can use the i9505 roms.
After you flash your rom, try to do a wipe data from the stock recovery. I think it will boot then.

I'm trying to install Office 365 (have sub) on my Note 3.
It is in the play store.
However it only shows of my owned devices, the Galaxy Nexus is compatible while the Note 3 is not.
Can anyone suggest an alternate route to getting it installed?
I have X-note15 installed on my n900w8.
Thanks,
- RMLeLoup
----- EDIT -------
Identified "possible" issue. However I need to know now... how can I "adjust" my store info on the phone to re become the N900W8 ?
See screenshot below for reasoning. Disregard the other phones... I went through 6 "galaxy infuse" phones with work, all with same issues... (boot up, green tint, red, orange, yellow, blue, you name it, I saw it).

You can edit your Build.prop to show the correct Model number.
It may also be a DPI issue, if so set it back to default (480)

How would I edit "build.prop" ?
And i'm just rebooting phone to 480 dpi, will re log into play store and check there.
*Update* even 480dpi, instead of any other alternate dpi, no change after rebooting.
Is there x time I have to wait? Or just reboot a few times, hit a few cell towers, come home and try again?
Thanks for the help!
- RMLeLoup
Use root explorer to edit the build.prop -- find the model number and change it to N900W8 hit save and reboot. Should be OK . just in case do a backup cause if your build.prop gets messed up you'll need to flash stock again to fix

Right here? and Put exactly all caps, N900W8 no spaces?
edit I noticed the region is GB (great britain?) Can I change that to CA / Canada?
See pic below.
Yep that's the place. Now I can't remember if the Canadian version is N900W8 or N900w8 - I think it's all caps though like the other models

Ok,
Next portion:
GB / CA? for region?
And...
I have backed up in the recovery to both SDcard and ExtSDCard (I believe they are called).
Have 64gb microSD class 10.
Figured backup twice, can't hurt to have a backup to a backup ...
CA for region since it's the .ca model
Edit: yep two backups can't hurt

2nd backup is taking longer to the extSDcard. Almost done... md5 sum fun...
About to boot and try the edit.
Will report once done... And if successful...or not... huzza!
P.S. are you advertising "paranoid rom" ? ^_^ I had it for my Gnex for ages, worth it.
UPDATE
It stayed entered, but had no change to the play store (pro or con).
I noticed the highlighted zones. Suggestions?
Yeah I'm using PA on my N5.
Hmm, I'm a little stumped. Need to have a think at what the issue may be.

I could start changing all the n9005's to N900W8 .
I can also change the N900W8 to N900w8...
Rather curious what might be a solid fix for this oddity... As my work uses office 365, and I wouldn't mind using it up front.

Checked mine and all instances of N9005 on his phone were all N900W8 ( rom is meant for a N900W8 btw ). Now I can't pinpoint exactly which entry Playstore uses to determine the model number on the phone ( am really a tech noob ) but it shows up exactly as N900W8 on compatibility list. As the op said, he can try changing all the N9005 instances to N900W8 but can't really tell if something is going to break somewhere as this is a tricky portion to mess with. Btw, the location GB doesn't have any bearing on the model number, mine is the same.

So,
Funny thing...
Microsoft Note: Installable via play store on phone and online pc web browsers.
MS office Mobile is not...
Backed up to sd card and extcard.
I changed all the 9000 to 900W8
Literally in the build.prop
Saved, rebooted.
Still working, and now as mentioned, Note is installed, Office mobile is not...
?
Fairly confused how I can gain access to 1, but not both.

Hey_Joe, check your pm. And thanks for trying to help
Good Evening everyone.
I've just recently purchased myself a Galaxy Grand Prime.
Whenever I tried to update my phone, it just states that the operating system on my device has been modified in an unauthorized way.
I tried rebooting my phone on safe mode and it still gave me the problem.
So, I tried connecting phone to my laptop using Kies but it wasn't able to detect my phone. It just kept on stating that my device isn't supported.
I tried downloading all the other versions of Kies as well as Smart Switch but to no avail.
Please, someone help me.
Thanks.

Download the correct firmware for your device..then flash with Odin3
You can go to Samsung's home page and download the drivers for your device and install to PC..get your PC and device communicating FIRST..then install Odin3..
For firmware, start search here >> http://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G531M/

Thanks for your reply!
I'm fairly new to all this. So is it possible for you, if you don't mind, to send me a step by step process on how to do this?
Thanks in advance!
First things first..what varient of the device do you have.? There are MANY varients of the Grand Prime..
Go to the Play Store, download/install "Samsung Phone INFO"..this app. will display exactly what varient and firmware you have, the firmware version and country code information is MOST important..
Do this first and post the basic info. and I can probably help you..
But also, double check your setup now, for example, make sure you have Administrator rights and all that personal stuff..look over everthing..it may just be a setting somewhere thats "blocking" and OS change..make sure your device IS NOT encripted also..it may be an isssue such as this..
I have posted a couple screenshots of one of my Grand Prime's to give you and idea of what info we need..
Once you do all this and still cannot update..get back with me.

As for the Administrative rights & encryption, where do I check these?
Go to device settings, go down the list to "Security"..then look at each setting..encrypted settings, adminitrator settings, an so on..look at all in "Settings"..make sure everything looks right to you..
If you purchased the device NEW..it should not be encrypted, that setting is always for the purchaser to do..
BE CAREFUL..DO NOT ENCRYPT..

Device administrator is ok and I have an option to encrypt (which I didn't do). ?

I did research your device..according to Samsung..your device is on the latest firmware available for your country code..Kit Kat 4.4.4
Your country code is either FTM (orange) or VGF..France
There is only one country on LP 5.0.2 and that country is Spain (code PHE) this is the only one on LP that the firmware has been released to the public..an OTA (over the air) is the only other way firmware is available..and if you checked your device for updates, you would recieve an OTA..Your device info that you posted states that your device is on the latest firmware.. "Latest Firmware:" Yes

But I live in the middle east.
So it's normal whenever I try to update my device and it states that it has been modified in an unauthorised way?
Plus I read some posts online which stated that I should check my Device Status. It states that it should read "official" but in my phone it states as "custom".

I see..well..your device is on the latest firmware available as far as I can see..
One may fix all that "custom" by flashing the firmware again..make copies to PC or SD card before you do..
You may research all this more..but its the only way I can see, is flash the stock firmware with Odin3..but..You may be on the stock firmware, and it comes that way from the box..I dont know..one could erase system and flash the firmware from Samsung's firmware page..

Do a Google search for flashing firmware to your device via Odin3..You MUST have a Windows PC..its a fairly complicated matter..and somewhat risky..
You may research your issue more..but I think its either normal for your device..or something has went wrong somewhere, for the Samsung app. to show "Custom" and NOT "official"..I'm new to Samsung devices..but have alot of flashing experiance with Motorola and 1+1 devices..I have flashed some Samsung..but havent seen your issue..
No..I wouldnt say your issue is "Normal"..maybe with your varient and country code..but the majority of the Grand Prime wouldnt have your issue..
I have two SM-531M's..no issues..
Do you suggest I just visit a customer service?

The only reason I can think of to visit a "Customer Service Center" is if I had purchased the device there and needed a warranty replacement..the people that work in those places USUALLY only know how to sale and use the devices..they usually know nothing about firmware/configuration..but its your choice ofcourse..lol
Anyhow..here is one of my personal files I compiled, I think it may help you..

Canadian "W" XAC firmware_No Carrier Bloat_No carrier splash screen or sound
Alright so I was reading the SD research and development thread over in the regular s8 forum and came across some good stuff.
You can flash the Canadian W firmware and it's pretty much just like flashing the U firmware on the S7 and s7edge. No carrier bloat, no carrier boot screen or sound, smoother as butter and fast as heck!
I flashed the W firmware XAC AP, BL, CP and CSC file. There is no user data file available with they're firmware. Everything runs just amazing, not sure if you can get wifi calling working or not. There is no VoLTE that I've seen. If you flash your carriers CSC maybe all of this stuff might work with a few adjustments. Wifi tethering works great and I'm on the ATT unlimited data plan.
The firmware can be downloaded on sammobile or updato.com. Will post a links here later when I get to a computer.
YOU MUST USE PRINCE ODIN TO FLASH THIS OR ELSE YOU WILL GET MISMATCH FIRMWARE ERROR.
Enjoy!!!
This firmware is for GSM carriers only. CDMA carriers are having troubles getting mms and some other stuff working correctly, Verizon and Sprint just a heads up.

It will work on TMO, I don't see why it wouldn't, we all have the same GSM U phones, even the cdma are the same minus some bands that aren't activated due to different firmware. I mean even if it didn't work as long as you use the HOME.CSC while trying it you won't lose any of your data.

Damn!! I'm stuck, it seems I can't go back to T-Mobile completely. In download it shows TMB for T-Mobile, in settings then about everything is ok it shows T-Mobile firmware. But the dialer, notification bar (LTE) displays as if i'm running G955W firmware. While starting or shutting down, doesn't show a white and a black T-Mobile display, and no start up tone. No voLTE setting, no WI-FI Calling, generally i can't get away from G955W.

When flashing T-Mobile firmware, are you using the regular csc file or homecsc? I believe you also need to format on flash using the option in Odin (don't hold me to that though, my memory may be a bit off.) I used to flash a ton of firmwares in my international S7 edge.

Regular CSC failed too, it takes me to as if the Phone is out of the box but doesn't change anything. Will check out that format option in Odin. I used to play with my S7 Edge a lot too, I've never seen this. I believe S8/8+ has some changes made.
Not me alone, same problem here:

I've totally failed to go back to T-Mobile fully, but the good news is I managed to get voLTE and WI-FI Calling to work. What I did is I ignored HOME_CSC_OYN and CSC_OYN, instead flashed USERDATA_TMB in Odin CSC. All T-Mobile bloatware is gone, and Smart Switch reads the phone as XAA....... not TMB, not XAC.... Weird isn't it? Let me see how it goes, feels smoother though.

Quick question...
You don't have TMO bloat... but your ROM looks like:
This (TMO):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
or... something like this:
...and the HotSpot area:
How about spam protection? (under Advanced Features) (FD Variant)
I just want to know if your TMO U variant has all the INT options enabled or not. (I am not sure if Canadian XAC is similar to International Exynos ROM) Also... you mentioned VOLTE & WIFI Calling are fully operational... can you please test Video Calling? Is Video Calling also working?
Most likely the TMO data file turned off all the features... But, maybe... Not... If all 3 main TMO features are working and the ROM is similar to International Exynos Variant... Then this is definitely great news. (until root)
Thank you!

Only Video calling is missing in dialer and it was the same with S7 Edge U Firmware, the rest is as your attached 2nd, 3rd and 4th pictures and working. My access point name shows PLDT wholesale but works. So far I'm good, let me see how the day goes.

That's right, the ones I tried at first were giving a fail mismatch until i found 3.12.7 in the link below. Remember I flashed USERDATA_TMB in Odin CSC to get voLTE and WI-FI Calling.
